Christopher Visits South Carolina

As Christopher mentioned in last week’s newsletter, he recently attended an Inheritance cycle event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on October 25th and 26th. During his visit, Christopher met with many students interested in reading and writing, offered two Writers Workshops for students, and gave four school presentations. In addition to the school events, Christopher visited a local TV station to give a live interview (video available after the jump), as well as a book signing at the local Barnes & Noble, and was the guest of honor at a dinner with local media specialists. For a video of Christopher’s interview, keep reading!

Wow. I REALLY love his books, even though I am not as huge of a fan as half of the people on this website. This kind of inspired me because hearing him say that he started “Eragon” when he was 15, and got it published when he was 17 made me want to start writing, too. Now I’m writing a story, and I feel really good about it so far. You’ve inspired a 12 year-old into following your footsteps. Thanks Mr. Paolini.

  • Matthayes1969m

we want the new book been waiting to long

  • Anesti

Is there a written interview log i can read? For whatever reason my browser blocks the video

    • It’s a very short and non-specific interview. You aren’t really missing much.

  • Anonymous

I would love it if he spent more time on the book. I am so tired of waiting, I sometimes wish that CP did not write so bloody well! 🙁

    • Christopher spends as much time as he can writing the book. Do you spend 24/7 at the job you work, or do you take nights/weekends off?

      • Anonymous

I really do understand that, but you see, you get so impatient when you want to hear the rest of the story so badly! 🙁

  • Thanksmike

mike i want to give you a sincer thanks for all you do! and all the crap you take from people… keep it up bro!

  • Inheritagon

    “The Eldest”… 😀
Was it me, or did CP have a little smile at the news anchor’s mistake?

    • Yeah, I think he did. 🙂

  • Riley Relfe

Interesting that there was NO mention of Brisinger…hmmmm.

    • Not really interesting. The interviewer has likely never read the series. It’s pretty common among news anchors. He also called Eldest “The Eldest”. It was an error, nothing more.

  • Mr. Anonymous

    No Brisingr?

  • Tulkas Astaldo

I wish he would come to Indianapolis… the closest he ever came was near Chicago for the Brisingr book tour, and Chicago’s three hours away. I had to leave school early… 🙁

    • vadersapp

Right behind you bro, I’m a bit closer but it’s still a good drive from Lafayette, and not an easy one one on a student’s budget.

      • Tulkas Astaldo

I was in 8th grade at the time- I had no budget.

      • Anonymous Man

if He came to Lafayette I’d very happy

  • i think murtagh and eragon should battle and eragon uses a new spell wich causes all of thorns eldunari to phase thru him and come to eragon and thorn shrinks rapidely and murtagh and thorn give up willingly and the team is locked up and guarded

arya should be fighting the evil big dragon and he goes to head but her she sticks out her hand and the bond forms

the end sould be something like a group (possibly elves) finds the kings eldunari stashand convices the eldunari to be good again and they do a mass spell (like thidteen riders dragons name) and it brings back all dead riders and their dragons (the good ones) and gabitorix’s first dragon and they go see the king andhe has mental break down

    • Thanks for your theories but this isn’t the place for sharing them. Please remember that comments on a new story are for discussion of that specific news story. Please share your theories over at http://www.inheritanceforums.com — our Inheritance cycle message boards and discussion community.

  • Jessie

I sure wish he’d cone to north carolina

  • Rider of Fangs

It would be awesome if he came here to langham creek in Houston. Then again, everyone in my school is practically ghetto, and don’t give a darn for anything but texting and mouthing of to teachers.
    So sad…

i wish he would come to ipswich in australia im about to attempt writing my own book and it would be kool if i could go to one of the writers workshops

    • You can find lots of great advice for new writers online. Good luck with your book!

      • Anonymous

        yea thanx
i started getting random ideas while i was reading the inheritance series and then i ended up getting a idea and thought it seemed pretty cool so im goin 2 try and turn it into a book or maybe a series lol at the moment im having trouble thinking of names for the characters

        • Anonymous

Ive found its helpful to go to baby name sites. Also it helps if you want the characters name to mean something specific.

    • nice i say wrigh it your way and if you go on to publish it first have it copy-edited (someone reads it and tells you what they think) and ask family and frinds

  • Chrissy096

Kinda wished that he would come to Canada- it’d be really cool if he came to our school! 🙂

    • He’s gone to Canada for all of his past book tours so it’s a safe bet he’ll visit again.

  • Anonymous

Paolini should come to Salem, OR

    … Just saying … 🙂

  • Anonymous

( I have only read what it said in the summary)

Good job Chrostopher, help out the little ones. 😀

    • Rider of Fangs

lets pray he tells us to be careful about what books to read, for they may contain negative indoctrinating. Phillup Pullman is a good exapmle: Atheist.

      • Sincerely hoping that this comment is a joke. Either way, this really isn’t the place for preaching. (And by really isn’t, I mean absolutely isn’t. No religion discussion here.)

        • Tcollinunca

Yeah… quite sad indeed. The Subtle Knife is still to this day one of my favorites… And Rider of Fangs… you would do well to remember that just because something is different, it doesn’t mean you ignore it completely or shun it. That’s a very narrow minded way to approach literature and life…

          • Mr. Anonymous

Oh brother… you guys wear me out. BTW love the almanac!

        • Rider of Fangs

I did mean it as a joke. sorry for posting it.

  • Anonymous

Why isn’t Brisingr mentioned in this video, when
Eragon and Eldest both were? :S

    • Mistake on the news anchor’s part.

      • Anonymous

Ohh right i see :L Just cant get the good employees nowaday’s :L

      • Or they didn’t know how to pronounce it. 😛

  • Matt Napton

    well, can’t wait any longer
what is the point of this series. there are so many better ones

he takes to long for each book, cp will be a one trick pony. after the fourth book. people will forget him.

he takes to long, that will be his undoing

    • Silver_Scales

Books take years to write sometimes. People need to chill, the book will come out when it comes out.

      • Matt Napton

        and i agree

but there is a point were it is unacceptable
not even a name or cover
        never mind release date

  • MAD!

UGGGGGGGGGGH! I MISSED IT!!!! I live like two hours from myrtle beach and didn’t even hear about this! I AM SO MAD!

    • EternalShade

Im in the same boat. Very upsetting.

  • Waffle

lol… “The Eldest”… made me crack up. xD

Aaand, apparently Brisingr is insignificant.. Maybe the guy couldn’t pronounce it…I wouldn’t be surprised.

  • Wllmsowell

I went to one of the school events!
I was the one on the forum asking if anyone had any ideas of what i should ask!

    • Wllmsowell

The first question i asked, was whether or not he had a rough idea of the total population of Alagaesia. He said between 1-2 million.

The second question was: What is the average of a human spellcaster?
He said that most human spellcasters would be middle aged, because of the time it would take for them to find someone who could train them and then the time it would take to hone their skills.

      • Tulkas Astaldo

Hmm… if there is one million, and the Empire’s army numbers 100,000, then one out of every ten eldunarya, urgals, dwarves, elves, Ra’zac, and men in the continent is marching with Galbratorix’s army, with loads more with the Varden… how is Galbratorix feeding all of these people?

    • you should suggest these
murtagh and thorn give up willingly and the team is locked up and guarded

arya should be fighting the evil big dragon and he goes to head but her she sticks out her hand and the bond forms

the end sould be something like a group (possibly elves) finds the kings eldunari stashand convices the eldunari to be good again and they do a mass spell (like thidteen riders dragons name) and it brings back all dead riders and their dragons (the good ones) and gabitorix’s first dragon and they go see the king andhe has mental break down

      • Inheritagon

I don’t think that tellling him what to write is the best idea…

  • Anonymous

    Yay. more info… Although wouldn’t mind a Q&A, no pressure… have fun, yeah howlong’s a jump?

  • veneficus

If only he had made it a little farther south. Myrtle Beach isn’t that far. I would’ve begged for a ride there had I known he would be coming down south.

  • YouKnowMe

If a break is weeks.. how long is a jump?!?

    • Zharn

I believe “the jump” refers to the cut-off of each news headline here on Shur’tugal; where the summary of the event on the homepage ends. When you click the link to see the rest of the story, you are viewing everything after “the jump.”

  • Help?

I cant watch this. These arrows just keep spinning in the middle of a black screen. Help?

    • Help?

And it apparently just crashed my adobe flash plugin.

    • This is an embedded video from NBC so we won’t be able to offer any support for it. Try emailing their web team? Not sure what else you’d be able to do. :-/

    • CONGRATULATIONS! THIS IS OUR 20,000th COMMENT!

  • ZachyD

Woop woop. We are starting to see a lot more of C.P., he must really mean it when he says he is close to finishing the book. Hopefully they have done most of the editing as he writes it.

Do you guys know how long before the last books came out they told us the titles and release dates?

  • Amethyst Rose

Lol Love how Brisingr was forgotten….

    • He also called it “The Eldest”. I thought we were past that point! 😛

  • zachamavisca

“Its not worth doing if your not having fun.”
    Very well said.

  • If we end up getting forwarded any pictures from the event, we’ll be sure to update the post. For now all we have is the video!
