Murtagh, the next book in the World of Eragon, is just a month away, but we already know a bunch about what to expect, from character appearances (Nasuada?!) and new locations to timelines and the point of view.
We’ve compiled the ultimate lists of what we know, interesting questions/answers, “no comment” clues, chapter excerpts, international release dates, and book tour locations!
Here’s what we know:
- Timeline: About one year after Inheritance
- Reading order: “The Fork” (from The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm) directly leads into Murtagh
- Point of view: Exclusively Murtagh
- Where it takes place: “Murtagh shows more of the world.” (And we already know Murtagh visits a land with ominous black ground and finds himself beneath the sea.)
- How Murtagh differs from Eragon: “Murtagh is tougher, more cynical, and a lot more damaged. He has a darker tone than Eragon, which makes for some interesting drama.”
- Inspiration: Murtagh is an “offshoot of F.W.W.,” but Christopher “got interested in the idea while working out certain details of Book V.”
- Where we go from here: “Murtagh is just the starting point for a whole LOT of stories set in Alagaësia.”
- Excerpts: Chapters 1 and 2 are available to read now – details here.
Interesting answers:
- Will Murtagh answer questions left open after Inheritance?
- “A few questions are answered (maybe not the ones you expect or hope for) and some new ones are raised.”
- Will we learn anything more about Selena?
- “Murtagh still has some major mommy issues.”
- Where would Murtagh have preferred to grow up?
- “That’s a question he ponders himself in the new book.”
No comment when asked:
Christopher’s “no comment” answers usually offer a hint at what to expect from the book! These questions received the “no comment” treatment… we’ll let you draw your own conclusions:
- Will Murtagh see Nasuada again?
- Will Arya and Fírnen be in Murtagh?
- Will Murtagh and Thorn visit Mount Arngor?
