Happy 12th birthday, Shur’tugal!

dragon-blows-out-birthday-cake-david-spier2Today marks the twelfth anniversary of Shurtugal.com, which officially launched on March 5th, 2004!

It’s been an incredible ride since we released what was then a side project of a fifteen-year-old passionate about a book he couldn’t put down.

Now, more than a decade later, the Cycle is over, but there’s much more ahead: we have Christopher’s upcoming sci-fi book to look forward to! Plus, there’s Christopher’s constant teasing of an eventual fifth book set within the world of Alagaësia…

We’re not sure what’s in store for Shur’tugal going forward (we aren’t Angela, after all…), but we hope for many more years to come!

As always, thank you for supporting us and this incredible venture. A community is nothing without its visitors, and we are eternally grateful for your patronage. Here’s to an exciting future and lots of new books!

    I first found this site in August 2005. I had “googled” Eragon to see if there were any online communities for people who liked the books. I was eleven at the time, and had just finished reading the freshly released Eldest. I landed upon Shurtugal, and found that the Eragon “movie” had been announced. As Book 3 of the then trilogy was way off- the site was really focused on that. The film was poor, but my fondness for the site very much developed through every update on the film, and the critiques keen fans made of that cinematic betrayal by Fox. From that point on, I relied on the site for news concerning all the books, checking in a couple of times a week. I distinctly remember listening to a podcast Mike did in the run up to Inheritance. Matt Smith had just joined Doctor Who back then! I can’t hand on heart say that the Inheritance Cycle remains my favourite book series. I have literally doubled in age since I read the first book and people inevitably change. Eragon was probably one of the first 10 books I read outside of Harry Potter that wasn’t a “Learn to Read” type thing as well. I have read maybe a few thousand since then. I will remember how much I was inspired and how much I loved the books though. They still sit on my shelf and from time to time I have a peruse. Thanks Shurtugal for being there as a lightpost in the turbulent sea of my adolescence.

    Feliz cumpleaños!!adoro esta pagina !!!Atra gülai un ilian tauthr ono un atra ono waisé skölir frá rauthr

    • Engla

      SKÖLIRO!!!! Otherwise they will get cursed like Elva… 🙁
      Skölir= Shield
      Sköliro= Shielded

      Atra gülai un ilian tauthr ono, un atra ono waisé sköliro frá rauthr.

      • Ebrithil

        It’s written skölir and pronounced as sköliro.

        • Engla

          Nope 🙂

          2) Atra gülai un ilian tauthr ono un atra ono waíse sköliro fra rauthr.

          “May luck and happiness follow you and may you be shielded from misfortune.” (A blessing by Eragon)

          Or at least, how it should have been. In the original blessing sköliro “shielded” was replaced by skölir “(a) shield”, with a curse as result.
