Arya said that comment about the worm has bitten it on tail to the elf when she sent him to get horses to ride and to send reinforements to the gaurd post where she meet the other elfs….

  • Sara Francis

What time zone are you guys in?

  • Ethiwen

Can’t see no one else have written any bigger theory about the “wyrm biting it’s own tail” thing. I have a thought. Wrote it as an answer too Collin D soo just copy it so everyone else can read it and give their thoughts too. 🙂
Answer; “I would guess that she means Galby. That the wyrm is Galby who has
“bitten it’s own tail”. He has lost the egg and it has hatched too
someone he has no control of. His plan was a “dead-lock”, he bit his own
    tail.  Understand?
(I’m not english so I don’t know if the frace
“his plan was a dead-lock” means anything to you guys but tell me if
    you’re confused. ^^)”

  • Howie

Arya did not send anyone ahead, she told the other two elves to tell no one of their presence because she wants the queen to be the first to know. Arya said that once she reaches Silthrim, SHE will send back reinforcements to Ceris.

  • ShrimpyJess

Is my ipod messed up, or have you guys not posted in a long time? And have I missed the comic con interview or something?

    • We post once a week, and this one was last week’s, so…

      • ShrimpyJess

Oh, sry, I was looking at the wrong thing! 😉

  • Anonymous

I never laughed so hard as I did during this episode.
    Lauren, I totally support you.
Mike, I knew you were wrong right since the beginning.
    I’m kidding.
But seriously, the podcasts seem to be getting better each week (and equally larger, but that’s fine).
I think there’s nothing to improve in the show. Because it’s fun and interesting. And for me that’s enough.

  • firesword

First i would like to say i realy do not like you guys for geting me into docter who i have become a avid watcher on netflix. Second when you guys were going on about roran being king all of brisinger he sais that he will win this war and then go on to be a farmer. He even promised in his weding vows  that he will go back and become a farmer. The clear leader is nasuada  she knows how to be a leader and she has proven herself to be a great leader.

    • No no no, she’s getting killed off 🙂

      • No, she’s not, she’s too amazing for that 🙂

        • Anonymous

          yes she is. she’s hateful.

      • firesword

she is the best leader they have. orin does not have what it takes and roran will go back to be a farmer. Nasuada is the best hope for alagesia and paolini will not kill her off why would you go so far into a character just to kill her off. nasuada will be queen.

      • firesword

      • Matt

I used to think she would be killed off but after more thought I think not. For Eragon to do all searching and flying around he needs to do to find the Vault of Souls he needs to not be preoccupied with leading the Varden. I don’t think C.P. would have done it.

    • Ethiwen

That’s why I don’t know if Roran will be king or not. I want him too but he wants to return to Carvahall. If he doesn’t rule Alagësia from Carvahall then of course. ^^

  • Mike, there is no such thing as heaping to much praise on yourself! 😉

  • Darth_javi

mike i really liked your theory, that murtagh scryed eragon…i also though of that, i mean who else could have been?

    • Anonymous

I dont think that was a theory, im pretty sure that CP reviled who it was in an interview

    • Anonymous

I dont think that was a theory, im pretty sure that CP reviled who it was in an interview

    • It’s not a theory.  Christopher told us.  I think where I read it was cut because of spoilers, but he randomly mentions it in the spoiler section.  Sorry!

  • ItsEminem

No we don’t want Eragon to become a complete dick. But he does need to grow a spine and a pair of balls. I mean really: he is humiliated by everyone he comes into contact with. I would love a sarky and cunning Eragon. Instead of always being humiliated he could humiliate some people himself; people like Nausuada and Arya, you know take them down a few notches. As of right now it’s the biggest thing between him and Arya: he is completely stupid and powerless. If ExA do get together; does Arya make Eragon her bitch or something and run his life?

    • Emily Sasaki

That is totally out of line. If you’re going to comment, then do it appropriately. You have been warned…

      • ItsEminem

Who are you? And how is it out of line? Because I used a few swears? They are just words it is immature if you cannot handle them and Im not taking a shot at you just saying. If your not a little kid you would have no problem with it. Anyway my comment still stands, everything I have said is true: Eragon is pushed around by everyone he comes into contact with; he needs to grow up and grow a spine.

        • firesword

we want Eragon to still be a man if he does what ever he wants he will be no better than the king. we need a hero that is willing to listen to what others say and also have his own will.He has made manny choices that took more spine than any other character in the whole book

          • ItsEminem

Exactly. He isn’t a man yet. Like I said we don’t want Eragon to become a prick but he is humiliated by everyone; that needs to change. I don’t even know why Galby is all that bad. Because he has tax? How is the new Kingdom going to make money? They still have to tax. Because he killled the riders? They were controlled by the elves they needed to go.

          • ItsEminem

          • firesword

he killed thousands that is whats wrong with him. Eragon needs to learn and the way you do that is by geting beaten you do not learn from winning you learn when you are humiliated. He needs this to become what he is ment to be.ps have you read brisinger

          • ItsEminem

Huh when did he kill thousands? I know he killed the riders but they were controlled by the elves, just like Eragon is pretty much controlled by the elves. The problem is Eragon needs to form his own opinion on what is right and wrong not have pressed onto him by others; like Arya said he is a tool. I’m fine with Eragon being beaten, it is to be expected, but he is also humiliated by people becuase he is slow (mentally). In Brisingr Eragon got a little (still not enough) better; the real mess was in Eldest.

          • firesword

He killed thousands in his bloody push for power. How about what he did when the urgals were under his control the village that they went into that is whats wrong with the king. Eragon is not controlled by the elves he is controlled by the humans more than any other. He does form his own ideas what about what he did with sloan or him going back to meat his teachers. he will not be a leader there are rules that need to be followed. if he makes all his own choices then he is no better than the king what will stop him from killing just as manny.

          • ItsEminem

Right last comment. He didi not start the war where thousands died the elves and the surdan’s rebeled (it reall was no problem of the elves anyway) thats when thousands died. Also the urgals were under the direct control of Durza: he told them to do that. Eragon cannot form his own opnion; he hasn’t met Galby yet: he parrots everyone elses. Anyway I wasn’t on about things like Sloan, I’m talking about morals.

          • Sara Francis

Gably is in escence evil because he went on a psychopathic rage and killed all of the Dragon riders.Aftewards he took over as king and as basically neglected ‘his’ people, allowing slavery and horrific religions to take root. And thats on a good day. On a bad he kills off people in fits of rage as stated by Murtagh in Eragon and Brisingr. Plus, there are no lines for this guy,  he has the scum of the world in his ranks, such as the Ra’zac and shades. He also was oaky with urgals (whom,I assume he hates) killing off small villages, on his orders.

          • firesword

no he parrots things that are said by he partener or his soul.He did start the war they did not want to be taken over he said that every one who does not go with me blindly dies.  he has coused more suffering than the varden could ever do in just a generation. and he will not die he will continue to kill and pillage forever.as said by eragon

          • ItsEminem

Also Eragon has probably already killed more people than Galby.

      • ItsEminem

11 weeks for Inheritance to come. *le swallow*

  • Aorn

mike!!!!!!! elves were only sent ahead to a captain at silthrim not the the queen

  • XxxX

Oromis can extend his mind that far……

    • Arya<3

He uses a spell t travel that far.

  • guest

Mike i dont know how hard it would be but it would be nice to have the inheritance countdown as a android midget on my phone you guys should try

  • Collin D

I am so happy!  They used all 3 of my questions!

  • Just a quick point for Mike, during this episode roughly 13 minutes in, (in the SPOILER FREE section) Mike accidentally refers to Arya as Queen Islanzadis daughter, something which we as new readers – don’t yet know at this point! :p

well, if it was in the spoiler free section, therefore new readers were not supposed to be listening.
and anyway, in this week’s reading we came to know that Arya is a princess.
i havent even listened the podcast yet =S such is the lake of time… D:

      • Aorn

spoiler free means spoler free not spoiler

        • Anonymous

          sorry for this misunderstanding then.

    • When something is revealed during that week’s reading, it is no longer a spoiler, and we are free to talk about it at whatever point of the podcast we want to. During the reading that was discussed this past week, it was revealed she was the princess, and therefore no longer a spoiler. Spoilers are things that have not been read yet, things to come in future weeks.

      • Anonymous

ah of course! Because new readers will have already read up that section!
        I’m wrong! Apologies :p

  • It’s hard to get a word in edgewise sometimes!

    • Fairth

As someone who isn’t a huge talker too, I know what you mean.  You don’t want to butt in, but if you don’t, you don’t get a chance to say much.  Sound about right?

    • I like what you did towards the end of the last episode where you just announced that you had something to say. That seemed to eventally shut the other two up 😉

    • Ethiwen

Ideed, know the feeling. I rather listen than talk in situations like that. ^^
But I truly miss your accent in the discussions sometimes so just tell them to be quiet for once or something, haha.
But nice podcast, it’s so fun listening too all of you trying to prove each other wrong all the time. 🙂

  • Maybe theyre just ready to recieve Arya, knowing she is coming??

  • I thought Evander was killed by an Urgal?? I think Christopher said that before in an interview . . .Borders Interview perhaps, not quite sure . . . . .

    • Anonymous

He was killed in the last battle of the fall. It was mentioned that Brom saw it happen.

    • Anonymous

no he was attacked by an Urgal and would have died, but then a raven pecked out out the Urgals eyes when he was about to die. so then he blessed it with longevity and intelligence, and named it Blagden. as gmc112 said, he was killed in the last battle between the elves and the forsworn.

  • I know right? It is a really cocky and vain thing to want – someone referring to you as master?? I know he is old and all wise (& an elf), but no. Eragon is the Dragonrider, he is the Shadeslayer, and he should’va said, er, um, ye-No! That was one section of the book that I felt wasn’t a very realistic reaction from Eragon’s part. I know he lives in a different realm, where ppl speak like that, but he barely knew Oromis and should have been put off by calling him & Glaedr, ‘Master’. I would never call anyone master.

  • booboo

face mike ! gj Lauren on lov

  • Sara Francis

I know that this is probably a personal felling, but in this part of the reading,Oromis is introduced, and I do not like the “M”word that he makes Eragon call him and Gleadr. Ilike them both but that “M”…

      Would be fine with sir

      • Collin D

I think sir signifies superiority which, as I understand it, is the problem Sara Francis has with master.

        • Guest

But its better than master as Oromis is the teacher

But its better than master as Oromis is the teacher

    • Helen Beddis

The word master has several meanings, in this example it is being used as a noun. In the context we are referring to it means ” a skilled person”, which you can not deny Oromis and Glaedr are, it is used to show respect and appreciation for that skill and knowledge.

No need to ask Paolini about the “wyrm biting it’s own tail” thing because you already did in the first part of the Comic Con interview from 2010:
Question: Arya tells Lifaen and Narí: Go
to Sílthrim and inform Captain Damítha, ‘that which she once hoped
for—and feared—has occurred; the wyrm has bitten its own tail.’ What did
    she mean?

Answer: Arya is referring to—and actually that city is Sílthrim [pronunciation], it’s hard to pronounce. Arya was basically sending a slightly coded message
to her friend saying that Saphira’s egg had hatched. And that was the
reference to what she had feared because Arya’s friend had feared that
the egg hatching would upset the balance of power and the world would
begin to change again. Elves aren’t really big on change, you know?

    • Collin D

      What about the wyrm part?

      • Ethiwen

I would guess that she means Galby. That the wyrm is Galby who has “bitten it’s own tail”. He has lost the egg and it has hatched too someone he has no control of. His plan was a “dead-lock”, he bit his own tail.  Understand?
(I’m not english so I don’t know if the frace “his plan was a dead-lock” means anything to you guys but tell me if you’re confused. ^^)

um could like one of the moderaters or someone on shutugal post like a link to wherever the contest thing would be to appear on the podcast? I’ve tried to get where the contest would be but i just cant find it. Thanks for your help.

    • Collin D

The 20 word contest, or the book giveaway?
There isn’t a spot to enter the 20 words yet, and for the book giveaway you just had to enter the answer at the end of the url.

      • Anonymous

no for the chance to be on the show. something on the random house website.i

        • It isn’t available yet. You’ll be sure that Mike will mention it when it’s available.

The Elves are not 70’s hippies. They are 60’s hippies.

    • Jesus

is it because 70s hippies did drugs and 60s hippies did not or am i completly wrong?

      • Anonymous

you knw for te hippie thing i dont agree. while yes they like nature and are airy, they dont do drugs and are not by any means lazy. so no offense to mike or the others, it really kind of made infuriated me that they would compare the elves to hippies.

        • Anonymous

but the rest of the show was still awesome and cant wait for more.

        • Sara Francis

in a strange sort of way, magic is kinda a drug for the elves. We have seen and been told that if you get a lot of Elves singing, their going to do some wierd stuff. And thoughI have no proof,I suspect that a good majority of the pop.of Elves are lazy,  at least the spellcasters. They could get anything by putting some emphise on a few words and get it.

  • Anonymous

I really like the book club, are you guys gonna do one for when inheritance comes out, i think you should wait a few weeks after it comes out and then do a read through and discuss every section because a lot will be happening. i would enjoy it if you did.

“Your family heals at an exceptional rate”

Wouldn’t it be fun to think that this could be a clue that Selena possibly isn’t dead after all? Maybe (and I do realize that this is a rather fantastical theory, but it’s still fun to think about), Wolf-Eyes IS Selena, who never actually died after returning from Carvahall. Maybe she survived the birth, due to her exceptional healing, and faked her own death. Bribed the servants into spreading the word? Or just left, and Morzan thought it sounded better politically to say that she’d died? Blade-Singer could be Eragon’s sister! Three siblings, three dragon eggs, (originally) three books… Selena would be just the type to teach her daughter all of her crazy weaponry skills, I bet.

    Just a random thought 🙂

    • I think this is evidence to support the theory previously discussed that Angela was the healer who tended to Murtagh whilst residing in Morzans control.

      • weetniks

        how did you conclude that??

        • I think it was discussed in the theories of last weeks episode;
we know a healer tended to Murtagh’s back after Morzan wounded him,
we know Angela literally has a habit of turning up everywhere,
this quote itself, ‘your family heals at an exceptional rate’

However, I personally think she was also referencing the fact that Brom is Eragons father here. It’s very likely that during her time stalking the Varden, Angela will have had to tend to the many scrapes and bruises Brom would have picked up.

But Christopher said that the next rider has been in all three books and is royalty.

      • I can confirm the three books…but royalty, I don’t think so.

Who is Blade-Singer? I don’t think a minor character would be a Dragon Rider

    • Ethiwen

I’ve thought of that too. Except for Blade-Singer being Eragon’s sister. That would be too much. ^^

I haven’t even started listening yet but I am sooooooo excited. ARGH!!!

  • The Real Richard

Am I the only one who doesn’t like reading Roran’s point of view? Honestly I never liked it the first time I read Eldist and every time I reread i basically skip it completely. I do read it and enjoy in Brisingr because I feel like its interesting in that book and he’s not so whiny.

    • Yes, you are! Haha.

I liked seeing his point of view. Someone who doesn’t quite know what else is going on in the world. Eragon had Brom, Murtagh, Jeod, Arya (briefly) telling him information and helping him along his journey. Roran had to just figured it out all on his own based on one urge to find and rescue Katrina.

I also found it awesome to see him get pieces of information that we already knew (such as seeing Eragon’s wanted poster…or has that happened yet in this reading?).

I didnt really enjoy his parts, i really like him as a character but i didnt really read his parts until he made it to surda

don’t worry dude. The only Roran part that I like is the Boar’s eye part and usually i also just skip over them, except for when I first read the book. So no need to worry. And yea I also like him more in Brisingr not because he was less wimpy, but because it was way more actiony and cool.

    • Same here. I only read it in Brisingr. I completely skipped reading Rorans sections in Eldest, but I did listen to on an audiobook, and liked it much more that way. Reading it?? not so much. idk, why though.

  • This episode made me laugh hysterically while editing it. I don’t know why.

Probably had something to do with Lauren ripping them a new one with facts! 😀

    • You’re welcome! Someone has to keep them humble

      • AvaAnnaZ

Lauren totally ruled in this episode.

On the question about people from different parts of alagaesia having different accents, i’ve always imagined that. In my head, People form Northern human cities have northern english accents while southern cities have London accents, dwarves have Scottish accents, Surdans are kind of Mediterranean, urgals are really guttural american. Elves are kind of hard for me to desctribe…if any of you have ever played Final Fantasy XII, i imagine them having the accents of the race that are part rabbit, random i know.

    • p.i.m.c!

what makes you associate urgals with american accents?

      • Anonymous

I have genuinly no idea. It just seems to work when i say their lines in my head.

      what?

  • Emily

I just wanted to point out that you guys are wrong on the Elven age for the Dragon Eggs.  It’s not 25 its 20.

    • Uh oh! Trying to incur the wrath of Mike, I see…

      • Emily

I most point out the mistakes!  It keeps them Human!

  • Fairth

First off, you didn’t mention that Arya laughed for the first time when Saphira carried the bags or what Eragon thought of the laugh.  There might not have been much to talk about, but it was definitely worth mentioning.

The other thing I wanted to bring up was about the cryptic message that Arya sent.
I don’t really know what the “The Worm has bitten its tail” part meant, but a guess would be that it simply means their work has come full circle.  Although it could also mean that a dragon chose a human and therefor “bit its own tail” (aka hurt it’s own cause)
On the other hand the “all we hoped for and feared” part seems pretty obvious.  The elves had held out hope that the egg would hatch, but also feared that it would bond with a human.

    • While editing this episode, I bombarded Mike with my comments. One of those comments was about this part.

My belief is that the “hoped and feared” is that they HOPED the dragon would hatch but they FEAR the day because of what it would bring (unrest, almost certain war, and it would change their lives forever).

As far as the wyrm biting it’s own tail…well, I think that’s just code for “EGG HATCHED.”

      what is that?

      • Anchal Jain

It shows the pattern of sound from each person’s microphone. and the 4th line with only 1 section of talking is the voicemail.

in order: Mike, Lauren, Chris and voicemail
it’s not hard to figure out.
Chris, you’ve got to make something. one of these days you’ve got to be at least the second one.
          jk
i don’t understand any of this.. just a guess, rs.

          • Yeah, each track is sliced up into tons and tons and tons of pieces. And you’re right about which track is which!

They start out giving me the three audio tracks and any voicemails (and the outline they used on the show) and I edit from there. I scrub out any noise and extra stuff. Trim down the beginning (you’d be surprised how long it takes MIKE to get the intro started!) then I slice apart their tracks removing anything else that isn’t needed (clicks, microphone sounds, sounds of Mike dipping into a cup of M&Ms [yes, he did, and you could hear it.]).

The whole process starts Wednesday night after I get the audio, then I finish Thursday night and put it online! Fun stuff!

            God. That’s tough stuff.
So those guys have all the fun and you get the hard work, eh?
            XD
And what a surprise! I thought they did nothing but sitting there and recording (now my mind starts to think in so many possible things they do while recording!)

Mike, you shouldn’t eat/drink on the computer. You dumbo.
            just kidding.
