  • feanarang

    @Glorfindel:

That was probably at least 2 years ago, before Shurty got its makeover. Evarinya will remember it, i’m pretty sure.

As to why you weren’t involved… I’m not sure. The only reason we got as far as we did in the debate was because no comment mods could get onto the site for some reason. Mike eventually had to call in a mod from the forums to shut us down, lol.

  • Ronnie

as crazy as it may seem there can be a avatar inheritance cross over

  • Tulkas

Maybe, but you should go to Scotland. Sheep everywhere. And what’s so bad about corn, anyway? And I live in the city. And your capital’s tiny.

  • Evarinya

    Tulkas
I live in Illinois.. and ive been to Indiana many times. What are you talking about??
Of course there is corn in Indiana! ..Fields and Fields of it.. O_o

  • Glorfindel

In response to something somebody said before: We reached 3000 comments once.
Feanarang, what religious debate was that? And WHY was I not in on it? Or was I?

  • Tulkas

Mordor- First, I too live in Indiana, and there isn’t just corn here. Though I do think that all the Colts stuff is a bit much. (americian football team) Second, I think that we have already been over the copyright thing. From what I gather, it’s legal everywhere but Canada. And we could just change the names.

  • Mordor

You guys are werid. No offense.
I cannot even begin to think of all the money and exspensive items you would need.
And not to mention that all us IC buddies live around the world. I’m in the U.S. and appearently we’ve got people frm Whales, Canada, and who knows where else. Fan404 your from IN? I think it’s the corn state 😛 I hate corn stalks.

I have a better idea. How about we get Mike to make a Inheritance Cycle Puppet Show! He can post in on YubeTube and there, everyone’s happy.

Also as I’m sure you writers like me out there know, COPYRIGTH! (sp?)
We cannot under any circumstances preform our IC actions without permission from Paolini. Sorry guys, but I don’t think he’d lets us do it. CP probably thinks his fans are ‘kids’, which I know none of us are.

    Any fall back?

  • noname

ok i now this is not a good place to say this but i’m burnt out on waiting on this series . its takeing to long and all this time i read a different series six volume series. and what is sad it started after this one.

i’m a fan but,i my not soon i’m starting to crack from waiting for this series. also i don’t now how he’s going to end this series in the next book there’s to much things for eragon to do.

i’m just sick of waiting for this story i’m going to another book series i found another series that i think will be very good the first book came out last month it has about six pages good number. th second book is coming out next year. i get it , it takes some time write but three years is alond time.

you now what i think this is my last time i’ll be on this site for this book series . bye bye

    this sucks

maybe i’ll come back when i see the next book i don’t now when that will be , mabe two more years.

oh yeah i almost forgot the mane web site sucks to the updates suck to . i think i’m done bye bye

    see you later

  • Joanna<3

Apparently Mike is back? Well ther is a new post thing written by him anyways… I wonder if he has read all this yet, and if he has what he thinks… 🙂
Btw, I agree with Tulkas saying we should do a small plot of a few consecutive chapters instead of doing a bunch of random chapters… But, to be truly honest, both are good ideas and either would work well 🙂
    Sirsimon
You are most welcome =D lol

  • Tulkas

Glorfindel- I actually beat that one right after I posted the first comment regarding it. No, I’m not exactly a master; actually on Age of Empires 2 about 6 years ago I spent exactly 6 months on the third Hoan of Arc campaign level watching these like 5 ships that I had kill all these enemy villigers that kept trying to cut down a tree on the shore… I knew about repairing the fixed gun, but boats always attack it from out of it’s range to the left. It’s difficult to rule the lake when you have 2 docks and a magic ship creation thing…

  • Evarinya

If you guys pull this off, im going to be the first one to watch it!!

  • Glorfindel

Yeah, fire ships are a waste of time and resources. Forget fire ships. Build another town center or two as close the fixed gun as you can. Also get some outposts. Both of them have an amazing range and attack against ships.
And in case you didn’t know, it’s possible to repair the fixed gun in between attacks. The thing that irks me most is that you can’t get any walls. By the way, I don’t know how good you are at the game, but when I first started, I only did about 25 villagers. You need waaaay more than that. On ESO, you completely max out your economy with 99 of them. I don’t think that there are enough resources on that dinky island to support 99 settlers, but make sure you have plenty. At least 65, maybe 75 or more. But have enough villagers that you can support a navy. Surround the gun with warships, but first take out all towers that you can with the fixed gun. Also, I discovered that while you can’t get falconets from the artillery foundry, you CAN get mortars. You can land some of those on a little island that’s in the middle of the lake, and nail the Fountain of Youth with those.
    Good luck!

  • Tulkas

I’m 14, and I still hold to my belief that doing Galbratorix’s rise to power or some other such small plot would be better than doing 5 random chapters.
Glorfindel- Ships always come and destroy my fixed gun. There’s like this inlet next to the fortress where ships just appear. It does make it rather difficult to move fireships to the fountain. And yes, there are no voices whatsoever, though the little sounds that the settlers make is still there.
DuSundavarFreohr- Well, I guess that means that whereever we do it, it won’t be in Canada.

  • Smoke

Hi guys. 27 here. The age range is getting larger. I like the idea about doing some chapters instead of the whole move. It would be very expensive. What we could do is agree on one to try.. If that worked aout well we could go from there. Baby Steps. It can be done.

@DuSundavarfreohr……………………..What kind of law are you studying,……………the laws of gravity. If you are in Law School then I am a dragon rider.

  • feanarang

    @Neytiri:

    New record?

Not even close. You should have been here for the religious debate like two years ago. that was like 1000 comments.

  • Glorfindel

Hmm… On mine, the voice doesn’t start for a little bit, so it suddenly starts talking in mid-sentence. Yours doesn’t talk at all?
And yeah, I remember that one. The one where you have to destroy the Fountain of Youth with the fixed gun? That one’s good, but I discovered that it’s absolutely impossible to destroy the Boneguard fort. I had an army of about 125, hoop throwers, lancers, everything. As soon as you get inside the walls, guys just appear from out of the barracks and walls of the fort. I think it really is impossible to do it, because they don’t want you to destroy the fort, you have to get the Fountain.

  • Firestone
  • Firestone

Okay, guys, I’m taking the remake idea to the forums

  • MeghanSwiftSword

True that. I still can’t believe we’re trying to do this.:)

  • sirsimon

Thank you for the compliment Joanna<3, you are most kind, It would be hard which to choose, but maybe we could strech it to five, maybe six, Here's an idea, everyone put down the name of their favourite five chapters, and then we see which ones get the highest number.

It may sound hard, but if will limit the chapters, this remake idea could work, and it would be slightly easier.

And wow, the age diversity is immense, from 11 to 19, and that’s just covering four people,.

  • Up&Away

I’m going to be 19 in autumn. And there are people who’ve made non-profit movies based on games, books, or even other movies. The Hero of Time, as already pointed out. They haven’t gotten in any trouble, that I know of. Though if they have, please, tell me!

  • Joanna<3

Oh, and sorry for the double post but, Sirsimon, that is a brilliant idea! 🙂 The only problem is that we would all have to decide on what three chapters are our favorite… Which could be rather hard considering everyone has different opinions. But we could do something like, the ones that get the most votes or something… 🙂 good idea though 🙂

  • Joanna<3

    freedom11
I do see your point about the age thing… i’m pretty sure the ages of people coming on this site are a wide range of ages…. I thought I read that Fan404 was only 11, I turn 18 near the end of this year and sirsimon said that he is 18 in june… So the range of ages already spans seven years…. But that is also a good thing because there are characters in Eragon that are younger anyways. 🙂

  • Firestone

Really? Oh boy, I breached copyright. The point remain the same that if it is non-profit (just as The Hunt for Gollum was), it breaches no copyright.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@Firestone, you are only allowed to use 30 seconds of a copyrighted song in a home made film, and longer than 30 seconds and you are breaching he terms of the copright.

  • Firestone

Chris Addison, it’s fine as long as it’s non profit. That’s why you’re allowed to use copyrighted music in a home made film.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Guys, for the last time, let me say… If you get permission, feel free. I dont know who lives where here, but do you know that the copyright laws in Canada are different than in the US? I live In Canada, and I am studying Law, trust me, there is a big difference. If permission by CP himself is granted, than the more power to you, i would love to help. But until then, you must know al the laws and hardships involved.

@feanarang, I am not putting anyone’s ideas down, I just want to make sure that everyone knows the risks involved. The last thing I want to see on my news is that a group of people in the US got charged with plagerising a well known book. Because free or not, that is what we call “bad advertising”. And as Chris himself just posted “Random House would shut something like this down fairly quickly I imagine” So, please evryone, just make sure you understand the work and risks involved, BEFORE you start the task. And be ready to accept that it may not happen. If CP says he does not want a movie made based on his work, then you can’t do it.

  • Neytiri

I think it’s a lovely idea. And I don’t think it’s palgerism as long as you don’t want to make money of the film… but I’m not sure about it.

Wow, we have got over 300 comments here! A new record?

  • sirsimon

    I’m quite excited,

Freedom11 – you mentioned something about age, and that non of us know how old everyone is on the web,

I’m eighteen in June, should that clear things up.

I hear what some of you are saying, that it is indeed plagerism, but it is only plagerism if it is done in an illegal manner, if permisson is granted, then its totally legal.

And I have been thinking, because many are worried about the cost and what not, then maybe we should not do an entire film maybe we could do three of our favourite chapters from the book, and do them.

  • Joanna<3

Would random house shut his down if we had direct permission from CP? If you guys are in contact with him anyways… Would it hurt to ask? I mean isn’t the worst thing he can say ‘no’…
Like Feanarang said, we would be like free advertising. Plus, our movie might convince them to remake Eragon… Hey, here’s an idea: we could put this on/in the credits or something, ‘made in protest of the movie Fox made from the same book’. Or, something to that effect anyways lol 🙂 I think that might make them get the point that we think they ruined CP’s books… I mean, I know some people who won’t even consider reading the books because the movie was, ‘lame and copied LOTR too much’… We should do this, if only to make people realize that the movie wreaks the entire IC…

  • Chris

Random House would shut something like this down fairly quickly I imagine

  • feanarang

    @DuSundavarFreoher:

It is not illegal to make a movie/book/entertainment media based on someone else’s work, as long as the creators do not profit from it in any way.

We’ve also thought about the difficulties involved in making a movie. While I respect your opinions, please refrain from shooting down other people’s ideas and dreams. You can do a lot with fairly cheap editing software and cameras. No one said that this movie is going to be absolutely professional, it would be (if we can do it) made purely for our entertainment and for those who watch it.

Now to everyone else who perhaps is planning the movie:

If we decide to do this, it won’t turn out to be absolutely amazing. It will, however, raise awareness for the IC, bringing money to CP (hey, we’re free advertising), and hopefully pursuade someone to re-make the Eragon movie. We shouldn’t expect professional results, because none of us are professionals. This will essentially be fanime. Made by fans for fans.

That said, I’m all for the idea. Let’s give it a shot!

  • Evarinya

Hey guys.. not trying to dissuade anyone here, because the movie idea sounds REALLY awesome. But even if you try to pull this thing off, how are you going to get everyone to one place so that you can film? And what about costumes? Anamation? Money? Are your parents and guardians going to allow you to do this? Is it plagorism?
Im just hoping that you guys will evaluate every angle of this situation before you dive head-first into it.
If you guys do it, let me know! Post it on youtube! Im dieing to see what you guys will do. :]

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Hey, I said I did not read all posts, so I did miss the one about the Hunt for Gollum. Yah Tulkas, there is free animation software out there, but none for the scale in which you guys are trying to take on. You aren’t making a home movie, or a school project, if you do it, it will be big, and you don’t want a half assed job. And yes i do agree that you need a leader, it is useless to have 20 people who all want to make their own decisions.

  • Tulkas

DuSundavarFreohr- No one is going to travel around the world just to film it. I think that the plan for live action would be to edit the people together. Example: in the Fellowship of the Ring, the hobbits and Gimli were in one shot (for the big thing at the council of Elrond) and, due to scale, the Humans and elf were in another shot, and WETA edited it together. And I think that there is likely some free animation software out there… but, like Firestone said, we need a leader.

  • Tulkas

Again, The Hunt for Gollum and Born of Hope were made without the permission of the Tolkien estate (I belive) and no one got in any trouble.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Also, has anyone thought of cost? I have not read every post on this subject, but do you know how expensive it is to CGI, or animate, or for that mtter film a movie? I dont know any of you personally (well i mite who knows who it is behind some of these screennames) but unless you have a million or two dollars of spare change lying around, you aint filmin. Plus, did anyone decide how you were gonna fet together? Trust me, it is harder than it looks, and I do not think you guys have fully thought it through yet.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Unless you gain permission from CP himself, profit or non-profit, it is plagerism. Even a movie loosely based on the Inheritance Cycle is plagerism. If he gives you the permission, then feel free.

  • Joanna<3

    DuSundavarFreohr
So you are saying that even if we are writing a script from the book (or write a story of our own pertaining to the book), to make a non-profit movie, we will get in trouble? Even if we ask CP and he says we can do it? Cause that is what we were planning to do… not just go and randomly write something and be like, “Hey look at our awesome movie based on Cp’s book Eragon!” … 🙁

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Guys, I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty sure that when Mike reads this, he will shut down the discussion. Some of the stuff you guys are planning, is probably copyright, and if CP sees it, he may very well make Mike do something about it. These are his ideas people, not ours, You can’t just make a movie based on someone’s work without permission. Its plagerism, and can be punishable with hefty fines, or prison if they take it to a higher level.

  • Joanna<3

    Freedom11
    Good point lol 🙂
But, you know, I bet Mike would have said something already if he was here so it makes sense that he might be away 🙂
I suppose anyone could watch it… but that doesn’t mean they will know who we are… I don’t know… but yeah I would agree with you 🙂

  • Freedom11

Well I thought I heard (read) that Mike was on vacation, but I also thought that Joanna<3 was Austrailain (I know not how you spell it), so you can't really go by what I say:)

And if the movie gets made and if it’s live, well….it’s kind of dangerous, on the computer anybody could be watching it. Just thought I’d say that.

And you have to figure out how old everybody is to know what parts people could play.

  • Joanna<3

I am also an able artist and would be willing to do some concept art if need be 🙂 If we are going to do this as ‘real life’ instead of animation, I can also help with costume design. 🙂
    Soooo excited for this!!!!!!!!!! =D =D =D

  • sirsimon

This idea needs much deliberation, in other news, the sequel to my book will be finished by next week.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@Firestone, that is a good idea, but the problem is, one person can’t do all the work needed.

  • SomeRandomPerson

I live in Colorado. I dont think animation would work. It is time consuming and I cant picture Eragon being anime. But im taking an advanced art class at the moment so i could help out with that, if needed. There just isnt an easy way around this.

  • Firestone

Guys, Adamtheant is totally right. It takes a while to prepare, especially if we are coming from different time zones. What we need is a good leader who steps out from the rest and says, “I live in the Eastern Time zone. I am going to make this movie. If you are interested, and are close, get back to me at this e-mail address.”

  • Tulkas

fan404- I too live in Indiana. Indianapolis.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Everyone, adamtheant is right. It takes an immense amount of time, work, and energy to make a movie, especially the CGI. I don’t think you realize the amount of work needed. I wish you the best if you attempt it though, don’t make this post dissuade you. Good luck, you will need it.

@fan404, Pants on the Ground absolutely rocks. It was epic!

  • fan404

i am sorry 4 the pessimist talk. what did you think of pants on the ground?

  • fan404

ppl, it is impossible. and, i know, pantson the ground is sssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooooooooooo funny:) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  • M194

    Any mexican here?

  • adamtheant

Live action takes time to prepare, film and edit, with the added difficulty of costumes, sets and equipment. Animation also takes a long time, as I’ve stated in a previous post. Traditional animation has to be drawn before you animate, stop motion you have to make sets and characters, and if you don’t know how to do CGI well it can end up looking terrible.

What I’m trying to say is whatever way you decide, you have to be ready for the amount of time it will take.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@fan404, PANTS ON THE GROUND!!!!!!!! That made my day!!! It was soo good. So are you guys actually serious about this?? LOL I would do anything I could to help you!!

  • fan404

i live in indiana. but, for spring break, im going 2 washington d.c. i bet som1 could meet me there. if we did do this, how would we do urgals? and, the tazor is 4 private use:) on another subject, PANTS O THE GROUND, PANTS ON THE GROUND! LOOKIN LIKE A FOOL WIT YO PANTS ON THE GROUND! GOT THE GOLD IN YO MOUTH, HAT TURNED SIDEWAYS,LOOKIN LIKE A FOOL WIT YO PANTS ON THE GROUND. PANTS ON THE GROUND! THINK YOU LOOK COOL, BUT YOU LOOK LIKE A FOOL! WALKIN THROUGH DOWNTOWN WITH YO PANTS ON THE GROUND!

Freedom11 – I am from Wales, which is a small part of Britain, I live near its Capital city, Cardiff, did you know that the flag of Wales is a red dragon?

Indeed, should we do this remake, it would be difficult and ardious, but it will be possible.

Tulkas – I sort of agree with you, me doing Thorn isn’t going to work, for the simple reason that Thorn doesn’t appear until the end of Eldest, which is my favourite of the three.

I could possibly voice Durza, I can put on a very sinister voice when I want to.

Tis true that the movie was a great disappointment, when the opening sequence began, my heart was faster than Formula 1, but afterwards, I was going, what the heck?

But Saphira was a delight, and Ed Speelers was a sort of good Eragon, I thought Galbatorix was cool, but his appearance didn’t align itself with the book.

By the way, I think the only way to do this remake is animation, live action wouldn’t work because of travelling, costume design and the fact that we all live thousands of miles away from each other.

I am a good artist, so you have a potential concept artist on your hands,

    and finally,

    Is Mike on holiday?

I didn’t know that, and Padfoot, looks like the role of Saphira is yours, but now I’m confused on who is playing who.

  • Up&Away

I’m from Canada! Joanna<3 says she is, too. Anyone else?

  • Tulkas

Joanna<3- I'm pretty sure that he stated that he liked it at some point- at least he's never said that he didn't like it- but with what freedom11 just said I'm not sure...
Glorfindel- I’m on the one where there’s the big lake. The game appears to have a glitch; I can’t hear anyone’s voice on the little movie things. And I’m having some internet problems on that computer. So it might be a while.
And I also have a copy of the Zar’roc sword that they used in the movie that I bought a few years ago. A prop, maybe?

  • Smoke

East Texas Here. Does anyone live close.

  • Smoke

I think that it could be done. I think that if each of us put in the time and effort, not just put the work on others, it is very possible. We just need a game plan.

on another subject, they couldn’t even make eldest now if they wanted to. Too much was left out.

  • Glorfindel

Oh yes, I loved the campaigns. Which one are you on?

  • Firestone

Joanna<3, I have some film making experience. I've studied to become a film maker since I was 10. I've read books, research many movies, read reviews, made short films, designed, edited, and acted in them. The only role I'd want to play would be Frederic, because I'm tall and broad enough, and I love (an know how to use) swords and weapons, having designed and studied them for 3 years now. Now we come to a real question. Could we do this? I know it would be hard because we're probably in different time zones, but, could we work around that?

  • Freedom11

Whenever CP gets asked that question he says the movie is the filmmakers vision of the story and the book is his vision of the story and he leaves it up to us to decide which we like.

And getting together when none of us know each other is worrisome. It’d be funny if we met up somewhere and since we don’t know each other or each others name we’d have to wear our names from here:)

  • Freedom11

I still think that if their was a remake of Eragon it should be with real people in it, not animation. And as someone else said (forget who) aniimation costs alot more than a real people version.

I wish we knew when Mike was coming back from vacation, so we could have his input on these things.

  • Joanna<3

    Tulkas
Are you sure he said he liked it?! That seems impossible!!!! It ruined his book!!! 🙁 Besides, we hate it… so…
    Fan404
    LOL 🙂 awesome…
Yes, I agree with you my mom is kinda worried about that too :)…whats the tazer for tho???

  • fan404

dont get me wrong, i would love it:) its just, none of us know eachother off this site. i would love 2 do it, im not trying 2 be a pessimist, but i know a guy, excellent at computers, that can help. and, can ne1 get me a tazor? that would be serdp,r!

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

MeghanSwiftSword, um, I thank you for the compliment, but it takes HOURS to get a few minutes of animation. I am speaking from experience. I spend of nine AM to one PM on a six second animation and few days ago, and it takes alot of tweaking to get it all to fun smoothly (plus, I stink at humans!)

  • Tulkas

Well, if we don’t make a movie, then who will? This is the largest network of Inheritance fans that I know of. I belive that it can be done. CP won’t get involved, he said that he liked the Eragon movie. All that we need is someone with enough computer skills.
Glorfindel- I’ve decided to defeat the Circle of Ossus in the campaign before I get an ESO.
adamtheant- Thank you. I did not know of Born of Hope.

  • Up&Away

    @adamtheant
Oh, thanks for tellin’ me 🙂 That might be kinda cool, and definitely easier then a full-blown movie. Not that it wouldn’t be fun to work on…

    @freedom11
    I know! Angela wasn’t at all what I’d been picturing, either. I felt like cryin’ once I was done watching ;_;

  • Glorfindel

I would disagree that animation is only good for a kid’s movie. Gollum was complete animation.
And the only people I “know” from Australia are RampantLion from the ESO servers, and Yvonne Strahovski. “Chuck”? Anyone? Anyone?

  • Joanna<3

Yeah I totally agree with all of you!! 🙂 I really hope we can do what we’ve all been talking about!!!!! Not to be cliche or anything but… WAY easier said than done lol 🙂
just like blinkkandyoumissit (Guest) said… we would need a great deal of commitment, not to mention time 🙂
I really hope Mike will come on here soon and see all of this and tell us what he thinks… (hint hint) lol =D

  • Evarinya

It’s really sad when Hollywood ruins a good story. I mean seriously people?! They could have made it 10x better.

  • Freedom11

UP&AWAY, I remember I was looking forward to the movie and counting the days until I could get it and then….TERRIBLE! And Angela looked dirty – her skin and teeth were all sooty.

Anyways we don’t need to count all the horrible things wrong with this movie, and put ourselves through this agony again.

I feel so sad for anyone who is new to Inheritance, loves it so much and like us think it would be great and be so disapointed in the movie. When I looked at the trailer on the computer I thought it would be so good.

  • adamtheant

Hey Up&Away. A graphic novel is basically a comic, but they often have a lengthier and more complex storyline similar to novels. This may be just the ones I’ve read, but they also have very detailed illustrations, similar looking to film and game concept drawings.

  • Up&Away

    @freedom11
True, the songs were good, but they weren’t exactly part of the movie. The movie itself pretty much sucked. I mean, come ON, they couldn’t even be bothered to give the elves pointy ears! Read any book with an elf in it, they have pointed ears. Ugh, I get so mad when I talk about that THING… And, correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they not even include Solembum?
    @adamtheant
I’ve never understood exactly what a graphic novel is. Could you explain, please?

  • adamtheant

People have mentioned ‘Hunt for Gollum’, but could I mention ‘Born of Hope’ as another fan made lord of the rings film, it only came out a couple of months ago. Looking on their website, it just shows how much time you have to put into making such a thing.

Just was skimming over the last page; the Hero of Time movie, made for the Legend of Zelda video game series, was totally fan-made and really good. There is definitely potential for people who are passionate about Inheritance to get together and make something great; (the Hunt for Gollum even had an impressive CGI at the end.)

I was so disappointed with Eragon the movie. It was a typical Hollywood job: capitalize on something’s success, and never mind about making a good movie. If it carries the same name, they might as well make a movie about Dora the Explorer and call it Eragon, make a couple million, and call it a day. Ugh. Did you know that the Eragon movie barely used the content of ONE THIRD of the book’s chapters? One third!

I’m not saying that it’s absolutely something that should be done, but heck, I’d be whole heartedly supporting any fan film of Inheritance. It would require a ridiculous level of commitment and passion, (the Hero of Time took 5 years to make!) but it would be totally worth it in the end.

  • Freedom11

Hey UP&AWAY, I totally agree with you! Eragon isn’t the kind of movie for animation. And Saphira as a baby was the only good thing about that movie. Except for the songs.

  • Joanna<3

    Fan404
if you had thoroghly read some of the other posts you would have seen that it is possible to write a script without having to pay a whole bunch of money since our movie would be no profit 🙂
Btw… You are being very negative about our dream… So if you can’t be optimistic, don’t discourage us 😉

  • Up&Away

Heys everyone, I’m new here, but I was thinking you maybe wouldn’t want to do animation. Not for a story like Eragon 🙂 But I love the idea of doing a remake ourselves. It deserves way more attention then THOSE people gave it >.< The only thing good about that movie was Saphira. And only as a baby :D She was cute ^_^

  • adamtheant

Making a fan movie is definitely the easiest way for fans to get the story they want, and not what film companies think will sell best.

On the subject of animation, while it does sound good in principal with no need of locations, costumes etc, it is incredibly time consuming. One second of footage is made of 24 frames, in that time all that might have happened is that has raised their arm. So for just one minute of footage, you would have to create 1440 frames.

Has anyone thought of doing a graphic novel? This would mean you could release it in chapters and also leaves the possibility of doing voices over the top, sort of a simplified animation.

  • fan404

you might not get the *we would have 2 paay alot of money* thing. cp owns the book title eragon. 21st century fox owns the movie title. i think we wont be able 2 do it, but lets just like, discuss somthin else. like american idol…

  • fan404

mike, plz give time to show us how you thimk we might do this. you are an expert, right? and, guys, we cant do this. we need 1000 ppl, if we use ppl 10 times. and, what about urgals. i think all talk is hopeless, unless, does ne1 know the costume designer 4 hp6? if so, and with the director of lotr, we might just pull this off. but it would be a youtube thing. we would have 2 pay alot of money 2 buy the title…

  • Freedom11

Yup Joanna<3 when I read your posts I heard you with a accent:) Dumb me:)

fan404 I was going to say you could be Oromis he is in Eragon talking then you see a stooped figure on a cliff

  • fan404

no, i cant be brom, im only 11. but i could be one of horsts sons, or nolfavrol(is that how you spell it?). i imagin myself as him. And, i know a dude who might help us out with special affects. he may only be 11, but he could hack your computer blindfolded!

  • Joanna<3

    Freedom11
LOL 🙂 so whenever you read one of my posts you ‘heard’ me with an accent hehehe 😀 It is a good idea to film the Hadarac Desert part in Australia lol:) does anyone else live there? Or maybe near a desert? lol 🙂

  • fan404

i am so stupid, oromis isn’t in eragon…

  • fan404

no, im Brom. on the alagaesia test, i was Brom every time:) plus, i think i kinda look like him…

  • fan404

kk, i call oromis(if we do it)!

  • fan404

who saw the american idol audition? lookin like a fool wit yo pants on the ground!

  • Freedom11

    Joanna<3

I’m so sorry! I thought I remembered at one post you saying you’re from Australia. Now I’m going to have to hear your voice without an accent. And I even thought you could do the Hadarac Desert scenes there.

    ( I’m laughing so hard! )

  • Freedom11

Animation never looks good unless it’s for a kid’s movie. But that’s just my opinion:) (And that’s not supposed to mean this won’t be for kids.)

I know the BEST song for Eragon and Saphira. It’s called “See Who I Am” by Within Temptation, incase anyone wants to look at it .

And I know why Eragon was such a disaster. When I first watched the movie I was so upset that after the movie I called my mom and ranted about it to her, ( I know why they couldn’t do Brom or the Ra’zac like they were in the book but Arya didn’t even have ears! Elf ears I mean:)

Anyways, practically every person who worked on Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia had read the books when they were younger and had loved those books as much as you and I love Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr. The person who did Eragon, did not respect the book. So the movie needs to be made by people like us who love the books so much.

  • MeghanSwiftSword

Sorry for double-posting, but I noticed a slight problem; How could we find a way to get people from different areas together on a website to voice out characters in this animation (Supposing we are doing this.)? Obviously we aren’t getting together to do this, due to just the whole internet safety and the fact that many of us live in different countries, but the only way I can think of doing this is if we all sent in videos, kind of like a YouTube thing, though I’m not sure that’s the best solution. Ideas??

  • Joanna<3

Just for everyones information… I never actually said where I am from lol:) but it’s not austrailia lol (tho I think they have awesome accents!)
    I’m from Canada 🙂
Oh and, I would LOVE to be able to help write the script 🙂
and whosevers idea it was to do this animated, that is a good idea and it would solve the problems of people not looking particularily like what they thought the character should look like (lol :)… Me) The only problem with this idea is that it would probably be expensive, whereas filming it our selves would be considerably less expensive… But then you come against the problem of us all living so very far apart 🙁 along with school and things like that…
Does anyone here know how to contact mike and tell him about this? Because if
we could do this it would be the best
    thing ever!!! 😀
and, I have done quite a bit of acting and many of the things associated with that before, so, I would love to be arya/arya’s voice 🙂 ( if, of course, no one minds the fact that I don’t look like her… which I do… So it might be better to be her voice lol 🙂 )

  • MeghanSwiftSword

That’s a great idea! You would have to set up a website first, and Padfoot’s a brilliant artist; this could work!

  • feanarang

    @Tulkas and sirsimon:

An animation might actually be the best way to go. sirsimon lives in the UK, I live in Canada, and Joanna<3 lives in Australia.

    @ everyone:
Then we could put together an animation to start with (Padfoot, you’re an awesome artist, maybe you could do some concept art), and each of us could voice our characters.

That seems to me to be the best way to go. Does anyone here do animation work?

If we decide to give this a shot, (and it’s a long shot for sure, but it would be fun nonetheless), someone needs to set up a website where the cast and crew can get together and discuss ideas. Padfoot, did you set up that proboards website for shurtugalwriters? or was that Tim the Terminator? A forum site like that would be a good starting point.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hahahah, I’ll be Saphira, it’s alright, Sir Simon. Are we HONESTLY doing this??

  • Tulkas

@freedom11- I think that the plan was to have each person film their lines seperately, and then send it to whomever of us is skilled at video editing and have them edit it together, if that can be done. There’s sure to be good places near some of us, and Fox is no problem if we do it for free. And we can do it after school. Oh, and I was also thinking that perhaps an animation would work?

  • Freedom11

I thought we were doing a remake of Eragon.

I always thought it would be cool to be Nausuada. I know lots of people dislike her but I think she’s a great leader, and is doing her best to save the people of Alageasia. Ok maybe save isn’t the right word. Is trying to make Alageasia a better world for people now and for future generations.

    But I wouldn’t be a good Nausuada, for I’m not even African-American.

We don’t even know if we can do the movie, dosen’t cameras and film cost alot? And what about locations? Where would we find a place for Carvahall? How are we all going to get to each other? I remember Joanna<3 saying she's from Austrailia and sirsimon is from....forget where he's from but I think it's England, were all from different places and unless someone on this site is rich and can fly people places I don't see how we can get to each other.

I’m not trying to discourage anyone here, I would LOVE a Eragon remake I just don’t know how we’ll do it. And what about Fox? They own it and I don’t want anyone to be sued or anything.

And also it sounds like most people here are in school, how are we going to do a movie if we’re in school?

Like I said I’m not trying to discourage anyone but this is probably just a dream.

But then again, dreams keep us alive.

  • Smoke

We could do Brom and Salena’s tale. Brom sneaks in Morzan’s castle as a spy and falls in love with Salena. Then Salena’s flight to Carvahall. What do you think?

  • Tulkas

Sounds good… I think that doing thorn would be a tad ambitious. Let’s just focus on Eragon for now. Or not even Eragon; we could do Galbratorix’s rise to power.

  • Freedom11

Padfoot can Saphira. I can’t make animal noises or growls:)

There’s also those other people who made that Zelda movie do you think that we could email them and ask how they did things?

  • sirsimon

One problem guys, we don’t have a director, producer, or a special effects team.

Also, those doing work overs will not have images of their characters to work with, maybe we should just work on the script and concept art first,

and Smoke, you will be Brom, so you will have a large role, you will have to come up with his lines (they must be similar to the book, but not identical) and you must be able to make your characters death emotional.

feanarang, Microsoft Movie Maker could be useful. I am an author, so Mike and I could help you with the script.

But another problem is that most of us live in the US, I live in Wales, Britain, but that’s sort of good, since I could give Thorn an english/welsh accent.

We should tell Mike about this.

  • Smoke

I am game. Just let me know what I need to do.

  • feanarang

What we could possibly do is set up a website and film characters seperately, then upload/email the video files to whoever’s doing the editing, and then that person could edit everything together… anyone here an aspiring video editor?

I’d help write the script, if we were actually serious about this… are we? it would be fun, but really hard to put together.

  • Smoke

Sounds Great. When do we start?

  • sirsimon

PadfootUnewraithSlayer – Oh my god, I’m so sorry I got your gender wrong, forgive me, its just hard to tell who is who on the site.

I think you would be a good Saphira.

feanarang – Sure thing, I think you would be an excellent Murtagh, I am indeed male, plus I have some acting experience, so Thorn would be a good role for me, plus I have a masculine voice, not deep, I am only eighteen this year. lol

Smoke – Since Padfootunewraithslayer is a girl, then maybe the role of Brom could go to you.

SomeRandomPerson – You could make a good Angela, it would a tricky role, but it could work.

But it seems we have two potential roles for Saphira, maybe one could voice Saphira as she is growing up, you know, teenager, then one could voice her as a near adult.

I wonder what Mike thinks of this, as site leader, he should get the role of Eragon. and Chris could play Roran or Galbatorix

the only roles that are empty are Durza, Ajihad, Nasuda, Jeod, Horst, Sloab and Katrina.

And another cool idea would be,

    Paolini could be the NARRATOR!!

  • Joanna<3

Whoops 🙂 in my earlier post I meant Mike and the rest of the shurty staff. He is the head honcho around here right? I must have said Chris because I was thinking CP or something lol 🙂
    sorry 🙂

  • Joanna<3

Well, Freedom11, that would fix my hair, but not the fact that I don’t think I look anthing like I have pictured arya to look like 🙂
if we actually end up doing this, then I think CP should be the one to do the casting, seeing as he is the original creator of the characters ( and will therefore know exactly how they are supposed to look…) … Just an idea, I don’t know… I think that would be cool tho anyways 🙂

  • Freedom11

Joanna<3, you could just dye your hair or have a wig then you could be Arya:)

  • Joanna<3

So are we all actually serious about this? Or is it just, ‘yeah, that would be sweet!’ ? Because if we are serious, then we should talk to Chris and the rest of the shurtugal staff and ask them to tell CP about our idea… 🙂
It would be awesome to do a movie like the hunt for gollum Tulkas 🙂 …. Does anyone one here have any filming experience tho?

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hahahah, I don’t like her! 😀 I can be Saphira! I am good with animal noises and I can growl. ;D

  • feanarang

Haha, Padfoot, I think you’d make a good Islanzadi. You could be a mysterious ruler, couldn’t you?

  • feanarang

    @Sirsimon:

Haha sweet idea. I think I could be Murtagh. So would you be fine with doing Thorn?

  • Joanna<3

    Hahahahaha =D oh dear lol.
    poor PadfootUnewraithSlayer :S lol
ahhh… the problems with online whatever you’re supposed to call these things… lol 🙂 I feel for ya 😉

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hahahahah, um, Sir Simon, I would be honored to be Brom, he is my favorite character, but their is one problem, I’m no bloke. 😀

  • Evarinya

    Ahh! What a cool idea!
Count me in if you decide on anything ;]

  • Firestone

True, Tulkas, it could be non-profit,and therefore, no copyright rules would restrict. However, we cannot call anything. Remember that they are some many people on here, and a lot of people would be running for the main characters. I, personally, see me being none. Maybe a voice for a random Urgal, but if we are calling positions, I call to be a props designer 😉 that’d be so fun.

  • Tulkas

Yes, we could make this movie like the Hunt for Gollum. (google it)

  • Freedom11

    sirsimon

That would be so fun! And I think I have the voice I think Saphira would have, little bit girl, little bit boy, sort of like an it.

  • Joanna<3

    @ SirSimon
LOL =D yes I am, and I agree… that would be SWEET! lol except that I probably would not make a good arya… seeing as I have reddish hair and not black, and I don’t look like I think Arya should look like lol 🙂
Haha 😀 Wish we could do this… we should all write a letter to CP and tell him our idea… He should help us do this lol 🙂 It’s too bad that we on this site are from such far apart places… which would make making a movie/script very hard to do. Which is very sad, because this whole idea is awesome!! 🙂
    @ Eddie(Guest)
There are soooooooo many more problems with the movie than that!!! But it would take a long long time to list them all… not to mention the fact that I would go on a big long spiel, which might annoy people possibly…… well, yeah I just won’t then lol 🙂
But, yeah, that movie annoys me to death and that is why a bunch of us are having this conversation about remaking it.

  • SomeRandomPerson

    @ sirsimon

thats an awsome idea! I call angela! lol I wish we could do it

  • Firestone

Wow, sirsimon! That would be fun. Of course, live casting would be hard, and online casting really doesn’t work well

  • Smoke

I guess since I am a natural red head I could play a shade. I am a good guy but all of the good ones were taken. Maybe I could be Roran.

  • sirsimon

PadfootUnewraithSlayer I’m glad you like the theory, it would be cool indeed, Eragon diverts Shruiken flame and it hits him, and like Saphira, starts shouting,

Meatbag! Rider of Windy Daughters! No Claws! Fleshman!

    lol

That sounds awesome Joanna<3, if Fox don't do it, then why don't everyone in this entire site gather together and make our own version, that would be so cool!

Mike could be Eragon, Chris could be Galby, you could be Arya, (you are a girl right?)

PadfootUnewraithSlayer could be Brom, Freedom11 could voice Saphira, (since she posted about that) and I could play either Murtagh or voice Thorn.

Smoke – Sorry i called you Robert, it was Chris I was saying hi to, but I mistook him for Robert,

give you opinions on the list I just mentioned, if I confused your gender on the list, I apoligse as we only communicate in words, not images. lol, certainly not like a dragon. lol

  • ShurtugalLiam

I noticed in the film too when saphira is flying with saphira over the Urgals, she says “the urgals are coming” as if eragon already knew about them, but there is no mention of them going to the Beor Mountains….. just my speculation ….. lol

and anyone whose bored of this post, dont try my idea lol, you know, not come on here for a couple days (which was fairly hard i admit) and then go on hoping there is a new update lol. but seeing as one of their staff tells us theres no latest news, we have to assume there wasnt 🙂

and Inheart was good as a film, so i may look into the books LOL

  • fan404

*that how to raise your dragon* movie will be more on te eragon storyline!!!(than the eragon movie)

  • fan404

when i put serdp,r my hand was 2 the left!! and, they messed up his sword, te pommel ad a ruby, not a saphir!!

  • Glorfindel

The end makes you think that Arya is about to kiss him.

  • Eddie

Movie Problems:Saphira is giant in a split second,Murtagh is like a week late, skipped many cities,Durza’s forehead already has the mark before the scene where Murtagh shoots him,Durza turns really ugly after being vaporized, and if anyone has more, I’ll probably agree with them 😀

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@Evarinya, i too have read Inkheart and Inkspell, they were both good, but I havent had the chance to read Inkdeath yet.

  • Evarinya

    Joanna <3
I have read Inkheart and Inkspell.. but not Inkdeath. I am currently waiting around for a certain book I need.. but that one is creeping to the top of my list very fast.
    I thoroughly enjoyed them 😀

Agh.. they just need to make a new Eragon movie. And thats that.

  • Joanna<3

Oh, and, (sorry for the double post :))
But, I was just wondering if anyone on here has read Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath, by Cornelia Funke? And if you have did you like them? I thoroughly enjoyed them 🙂
If you were wondering how I got on this subject, this is the way my mind works 🙂 … We were talking about an awesome book on which a movie was made, which was done terribly and which, therefore drove us crazy lol 🙂

  • Joanna<3

    @ Freedom11
lol Yup probably… But… It would still be fun to do 🙂
I don’t know if that would apply if we wrote it right from the book and not from the script Fox used, but whatever 🙂 Like I said… Just a random fantasy 🙂

  • Freedom11

I hated the movie. The only part that was good was Saphira as a baby, she was so cute. But then she grew up in one second and wasn’t the right blue, had feathers on her wings, and I always imagined Saphira’s voice younger (although I glad they didn’t use some young girl for her voice) I don’t know Saphira’s voice dosen’t sound exactly like a girl, but it’s not like a boy voice. I don’t know it’s very hard to explain.

And about remaking the movie. Dosen’t Fox own Eragon ( the movie ) so wouldn’t it have to be bought back if someone wanted to remake it?

  • Joanna<3

    @Sirsimon
Yeah, that would be hard! But, I always thought it would be fun to do voice acting anyways… not to mention movie/drama acting 😀
I was so mad at the Eragon movie that they made that a few of my friends and I thought when we graduate next year, we should write a script from the book, give it to CP and have him approve it, then give it to… idk Peter Jackson or something… lol just a random fantasy 🙂 I do very much enjoy writing tho so, maybe we will just do it for the fun of it 😀

  • SomeRandomPerson

That movie is so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, very, very stupid. Why even call it eragon? It has nothing to do with the book besides that theres a dragon. Ugh!!! I have a little issue with that movie. Brom and saphira were good and so were all the effects but that storyline….

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hahah, Sir Simon, wicked, that would be brilliant. 😀 JK.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

    Eragon** sorry not Eragib.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@Sirsimon, I do no think that Eragon has complete control over fire, more that he has a certain fascination with it. Any magician can control flames by using the word “brisingr”, but Eragib just uses it more than most magicians would. It’s mot like he can randomly make a wall of flames without using “brisingr”, anyone wth magical abilities, and the knowledge of the word in the Ancient Language could do this. So yes, in a way, he could intensify Saphira’s flames, but so could any other adept magic user.

  • Smoke

    who is ROBERT
    I am not robert

  • Smoke

    thats an interesting idea sirsimon.

Back to the discussion of CP using other authors ideas. I wonder how many of his ideas come from these post. I have read alot of good theories from the fans.

  • sirsimon

He means that there has been no news for a while.

By the way, Hi Robert, you vanished off the face of the site for a while, been busy?

Not much has happened on the site, other than we have been sharing discussions, including theories, what makes a good writer and a good storyteller and about lord of the rings, the inspirative works behind the inheritance cycle.

By the way guys, I have a theory, if Eragon can control fire, does that mean he could control dragon fire?

He could increase the power and intensity of Saphira’s flame, or divert enemy torrents from Thorn and Shruiken and throw them back into their faces?

    Interesting idea

  • Smoke

“a slow news time” does that mean we will not have any new news for a while? What are you saying.

  • Chris

    It’s a slow news time

  • sirsimon

I totally so agree with you Joanna<3, Saphira was beautifully done CGI wise and the voice, well...only my favourite actress of all time, Rachel Weisz, she was amazing in the mummy, and amazed me even more as Saphira, and voice acting is hard, you must convey the characters emotions through words, while a computer does the physicality.

PadfootUnewraithSlayer , got it, you like chocolate milkshake, I like an apple cider, or a creme soda LMAO

and everyone is right, there may just be a massive update round the corner, Its just my patience is hanging by a thread

  • Glorfindel

Ok. Yeah, I also play Rome Total War. Not as often anymore. It was really good, the field battles were just amazing. There were some things that did annoy me, especially because they weren’t explained. The eighty page manual really didn’t help me at all. Like how, especially at the beginning, your cities would inexplicably start losing money. I finally figured out that you have to keep taking more cities, and your income will go up. And I didn’t like how when you attacked a town, your men had to stay right on the road, they couldn’t go through the gaping holes in between buildings. So they would be REALLY close to the plaza, but had to take a massive detour. The graphics were good though. Actually, the graphics confused me. You could see the beards on the faces of your men, but attacking a wall with your onagers was a joke. It looked like flakes of the wall were coming off.
    Good game.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hahah, SolembumRulesTheEarth, aye, go Brom! Jeremy Irons rocks! lml Hahaha

  • Tulkas

Glorfindel- In a week or so. This week I have finals, and I have to get to moderate playing standard. I prefer Rome: total war and Age of Mythology. Hmm… I seem to remember Mike a while back saying that this was not the place to talk to friends… it seems I must think up something to talk about… still thinking.

  • SolembumRulesTheEarth

    Sirsimon-
You’re right, Brom and Saphira were the only really good things from the movie. But Brom was only good because of Jeremy Iron’s awesome acting and Saphira…well, Saphira just got lucky.

  • Glorfindel

Mighty Lord of Gondolin… I may need to add that to my title.
“But I’m apparantly going to be playing Age of Empires three online soon”.
Haha, I’m not forcing you laddie, just wondering if you had one. By the way, my username is LordofAngmar. Let me know what yours is if you get one.

And he got serdp,r because his hands were shifted one key over on his keyboard.

  • Tulkas

Feanarang- No, I do not play online. I too use this name on every site I go too, which all number about 4: my email, my facebook, wikipedia, and this one. But I’m apparantly going to be playing Age of Empires three online soon, which should be fun, evthough I shall lose the great power of Glorfindel, most mighty lord of Gondolin who slew a Balrog. There were only ever seven Balrogs. All I did was capture Melkor. I think that it’s time for another interview, don’t you. Never mind another interview, how about another newsletter. Been over a year now.

  • feanarang

    @Tulkas:

Yes you’re right. It’s been a while since I’ve read the Silmarillion, I’d forgotten that.

Sweet! What’s your username? Do you play online? Mine’s still Feanarang. I use this name every site I go to.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hahah, cheers, Sir Simon! My tab would be easy, just a chocolate shake! ;D

  • M194

yawn need updates soon me going mad yawn!!!

wow to j373 your a son of #$%#

    forgivie my language plp

good luck to all the good writers

  • Joanna<3

    @ SolembumRulesTheEarth
arrgggg!! I totally agree with you! I can not even say how much that movie drives me CRAZY!!!! lol I could go on a big long spiel about how many things are so wrong with that movie… but I won’t 🙂
pretty much the only thing i thought was good about that movie was the way they did saphira and her voice, that was good; and also brom was what I had at first pictured him to be… but that alone by no means makes that movie good…
    @ Fan404
lol 🙂 nice new word 😀
@ anyone who is getting mad at this site…
all i can say is… patience is a virtue. we’ve waited this long, whats a few more weeks? I’m sure all the waiting will be well made up for when book four comes out 🙂

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@fan404 I love ow you can get serdp,r from awesome!! Very serdp.r my friend!! lol

  • fan404

    did i put serdp,r!?!!!!! i ment awesome!!!!

  • Evarinya

Im sure that Mike and the staffers are busy trying to get some new information for us, and we just need to give them a little time, and be patient. Give them some slack, this is no easy job.

  • fan404

guys, what do u thin of mr friggen dream!?!!! and, yes. i would appreciate an update. but nothin fake! mike should come and tell us if somthin si comin! it would be serdp,r!

  • Tulkas

@feanarang- I play BFME 2 as well. And Melkor didn’t create the Balrogs; they were Maiar that were in the service of Aule before Morgoth got them to serve him. That was a weird dream; it also involved me turning into a girl and kissing Edward the vampire guy. And I know that the Valar can’t have children, but the Maiar… well, Melian did. Luthien.

  • Evarinya

Ahh.. I am just glad that we even have a Inheritance fansite at all! What would happen if this site suddenly disappeared? Where would we get our updates then?
Just be happy that we have this site at all, and stop belly-aching about this and that.
    Just be thankful everyone!

Oh and everyone, lets try just to ignore everything that J373 says. He is just trying to make us mad. Lets not let him get to us. ;]
Jerks like that just need to shut up and get over themselves.

  • ShurtugalLiam

why is someone to a site that a lot of us have been on for ages and calling US nerds? :/ seriously, it isnt fair. Grow up would you. and something about “banging chicks” i’d be surprised. I think you should be a little more mature if your going to be on this site thank you. And i agree with the new site thing an all, but how would we get our OWN updates? im sure Mike has some sort of communication with CP…

  • feanarang

    @Glorfindel:

I don’t play AOE III (though I would like to get my hands on the game), but I do play BFME II. Nice to see other RTS fans on this site.

    @Tulkas:

I don’t know if Balrogs can be female or not… I have a feeling that Morgoth may have been a bit of a sexist, so he didn’t create female balrogs? lol. Just a guess. The Silmarillion never said there couldn’t be female balrogs, but it never talked about them either. And female Balrogs would mean bad news for Middle-Earth. Then the Balrog species could reproduce on their own… Scary!

  • Tulkas

@sirismon-Yes, the movie was both good and bad. You see, some departments did really well, while other departments did poorly. But you only notice the bad stuff.
@Aragorn-I think that you are referring to the Dagor Dagorath. The fourth age is slightly earlier. Anyway, it actually started when the Ring was cast into Oroduin, so the Scouring of the Shire was in the Fourth Age.
@Glorfindel- Pelori are big mountains that surrond Valinor, Aule is the Vala of metal, the one that created the dwarves (Helzvog, anyone) and Valmar is the big city in Valinor within which the Valar live. It is in roughly the same place as Indianapolis is in Indiana, give or take a few leagues. I’ll get an account for that sometime soon, then.
    @sirsimon- I agree with you.

  • sirsimon

    I am not a nerd!

And I can write! Can you write over 500 pages and yet still get on with life?!

DuSundavarFreohr is right, you are unwanted, we come to discuss Christopher’s work, he is not a nerd, he is a master writer and will do better in life than you will,

the ones that call other nerds, are nerds themselves. If there is one thing i CANNOT stand is when my freinds are abused and harrassed physically or verbally. and everyone here, agrees with me!

  • Glorfindel

If you guys don’t like it, then leave. Would you rather Mike just make news up?

Aule? That sounds like something I’ve read in a book… But anyway, Pelori? Aule? Valmar? Enlighten ME, dear boy.
ESO is what you use to play AOE III against other humans. It’s really easy. I have one myself. You just go to multiplayer, then you can choose either LAN or ESO. Do ESO, and just follow the instructions. If you get one, let me know your username, and I’ll add you as a friend, and we can play together. I don’t know what kind of internet you have, but you need high speed, not dialup.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

@j373, I am in a great relationship, so if you don’t mind (please everyone pardon this) go the hell to another site, we do not want you here. We are here to discuss the book, not discuss how much of an (again, im sorry for this) ass you are.

  • sirsimon

I agree with you SolembumRulesTheEarth that the movie was bad in comparison to the book, but there were some parts that I enjoyed, like Saphira and Eragon’s first ride together and the part when Brom’s tomb is frozen and the part when Shruiken is revealed, but these were very small parts and basically the only thing good about this film was Brom and Saphira.

PadfootUnewraithSlayer, cheers mate, if we ever bump into a pub one day, drinks are on me LOL!

Freedom11: I am glad you like the phrase, it is very mystical, I think it should be the sentence that defines writers as a whole.

  • aragorn

AH!yes .In the fourth age melkor (morgoth) escapes from whatever manwe casts him into.Ther is a war between the light forces and the dark and in the end turin kills morgoth with his black sword.

    ps got this frm wikipedia

  • SolembumRulesTheEarth

I swear, if they remake the movie, they better do it right or I will bombard the directors with hate mail. That movie was a disgrace and I abhor from it as an Inheritance fan. It was absolutely pathetic…

Sorry, I’m just very passionate abut my hate for that movie.

  • co0lcat2008

whoa whoa whoa…im all for reading and waiting on book 4 cuz its the only series i read as well…but whats this i hear of the movie editorials???? i wanna know about this. i love the book so much that hearing about the movie editorials is getting me anxious. i hated the movie with a passion but if they’re gonna do it right then awsome. idk how much more right they could make it though they would practically have to remake it which we know isnt gonna happen cuz they still gotta give Arya elf ears, make dwarves and urgals look like Kulls or freakin the big orcs like from lord of the rings. christopher shoulda gave the movie to peter jackson…am i wrong??? at least he knows how to make different races.

  • fan404

you got a fricken point, mate! all of this is rubbish! we ssssssssssooooooooooo auta start a petition bloody sayin *we the people of shurtugal.com, in order 2 stop us from murdering each other, want an update* or somthin along the lines…

  • Binz

Now I’m not hating on any of you. I love this series as much as anyone. However, This site is soooo lame. I mean seriously. How long does it take to post something on the site to let us know what’s going on? Even a, “Hey updates coming soon” would do fine. I know from reading past comments similar to mine that the staff are probably going to come back and tell me that I’m unappreciative and what not, but whatever. I’m just surprised that nobody else has started a more reliable inheritance site, seeing as you guys don’t like to deliver. Go ahead, ban me, block my IP. Whatever you gotta do.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Sir Simon, thank you, mate, and good luck on your own series. 😀 Yeah, that is a interesting quote. 😀

  • Freedom11

    And sirsimon,

cool saying there, “While the sword takes life the pen creates it.”

  • Freedom11

    hey sirsimon

Are you saying I made the Cycle sound amazing? If so thanks:)

And I agree we do need a update. Maybe we could write CP and ask for one. But maybe then he’d try to rush book four:(

I think I remember him saying in an interview that he if he thinks about fans he starts worrying over every detail or word. Or at least it was something to that effect.

Then again I could be wrong, my wierd brain:)

  • fan404

tulkaks: wow! a female balrog?!???? i think it is possible. i recently had a dream( on new years, wich was a blue moon, so, it must be true). the dude from the percy jackson series, dr. thorn, told me great troubles lie ahead in my future. and it was at my school!??!!! anyway, u want 2 get off the series, wow!!! i still dont forgive wow(guest) for his critisizing!1

  • j373

i like to bang chicks lol

    can yall do that nerds?

  • J373

some of you are big nerds you nerds

you will never be a writer nerd

    chris is a nerd too

  • Evarinya

Being a writer is probably one of the hardest jobs in the whole world..

  • M194

some of you write to much i dont feel to read your commets lol

I NEED BOOK 4 REALSE DATE AM GOING MAD!!!! ONLY SERIES I READ

plz no eragon and arya happy ever after but i can live with it if they do

  • Tulkas

@Glorfindel- While I do play AOE 3, but I do not have an ESO account. In fact, I do not even know what that is; we only recently got Internet out here in Valmar. Aule had to get it through the Pelori mountains. Care to enlighten me?
    @InfiniteImprobability=Wow.
@Everyone else- Do you know if Balrogs can be female? I had a dream last night that I had a red lightsaber and fought a female Balrog. I belive that the Maia that drives the Sun is female, and of the order that became Balrogs. I should ask Aule. Or perhaps it’s a sign from Eru. And yes, writing is difficult.

  • sirsimon

I have managed to get one book published, but the sequel is a challenge unto itself. Not only did I had to create unique characters, but create a history, cities, countries and even a religion.

Do not worry PadfootUnewraithSlayer, You will truimph in your writing, believe you can do and you will.

and MeghanSwiftSword, I couldn’t agree with you more, there’s nothing more fun than bringing a character to life, the pen truly is mightier than the sword, while a sword can take life, a pen can create life.

DuSundavarFreohr, you are correct, its difficult and believe me when I say that I have suffered stress and hardship because of it, but its worth it in the end, I wish you success in your writing.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

I am attempting to get a book published soon, and I have spent five bloody years on it. 😀 You really have to love writing and what you are doing. I agree with you both. 😀

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Yah, it isnt as easy as it looks to be a writer. I have tried to write a few times, but it is so uch harder than it looks. I have finished a few pieces, nothing published, but it is hard. It takes so much work, and thought to write. My congrats to everyone that has ever accomplished getting a book published, it is no easy task.

  • MeghanSwiftSword

I agree, Padfoot. Writing is more than just writing about characters and adding a few verbs. It isn’t something you do because you have too. If you’re a real writer, you do it because you love it and… Well it’s like making magic. It has to have heart.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

I agree completely with you, Sir Simon. It really is fun, but it is difficult as well. You have to know your characters and what they would do and you also have to do a lot of research so that your story sound realistic (trust me, I have NO idea how my medical sites I have been on to make sure I don’t do something impossible with my characters. It’s hard to make something dull interesting, sometimes just vivid verbs are not enough to make it interesting. You have to add humor and emotion, putting a little of yourself into what you are writing to give your characters breath and feeling, sometimes you have to look around you and find how other people react to things. Plus, it is sometimes difficult to remember your own magic rules and the plots and subplots. I sometimes don’t know how people like CP and JKR write stuff as big as they do and keep the story straight and give so much detail and heart into the story (not to mention proofreading….). You have to make the characters believable and dear, or someone that you make the readers hate. You have to give a sense of exultation that excites the reader in a merry scene and bring a sense of pathos to the moments of deepest despair. It sounds simple when you read a tale, but you are only reading the finished project, not all of the drafts before and you are not seeing all of the work that goes into it.

  • sirsimon

Freedom11, I think what makes a good storyteller is the way the reader can make it sound amazing, and realistic, and what makes a good writer is commitment and dedication, combined with creativity and willpower, for writing books is difficult, keeping a consistant flow in the literature, as well as making the dull moments exciting, but writing is very fun and rewarding.

ShurtugalLiam: I am not going off the series, I adore the books, but its a bit frustrating when I come on the site and the news is the same as it was a month ago, and the last time Paolini gave us an update was….

    September 2009!

InfiniteImprobability: You are good with words, I think you have listed a quarter of a thesarus there, lol, and the relationship between Eragon and Saphira is one of the main themes I love about the books, two very different species bonded in a strong relationship of freindship, its relays a message that the most unlikely of people can forge the greatest of companionships.

    Amen to that 🙂

  • ShurtugalLiam

    @InfiniteImprobability:-

wow you have a way with words buddy … lol, and you sure do like to post long comments … but i think they’re great 😀 straight to the point. Well done 😉

    @Freedom11:-

im not going off the series and stuff personally, i just think we could do with an update 🙂 its going to be nearly 2years since the 3rd book was released. Time sure does fly “/ lol.

  • Glorfindel

By way of clarification, the book I refer to as sitting in my bookcase is That Hideous Strength, not Cheaper by the Dozen.

  • Glorfindel

InfiniteProbability, most people have said it for me, but I’d like to commend you for a well thought out and well written comment. Orrrrr… an essay. Not that that’s bad. I enjoyed it.
You’re welcome Feanarang. I’ll back you up, to the hilt, but what want to know is who’s going to back up… Sorry, it’s from a book. Cheaper by the Dozen. The movie came nowhere close to the book. But I digress.
And I don’t even have the excuse of needing to go to the library. It’s sitting in my bookshelf fifty feet from where I now sit.
And by the way, Rome Total War = Awesome.
I had a few problems with it, but all in all, it was quite good. I was trying to conquer the entire world, (I had already conquered Rome and the mandatory fifty provinces) but it got waaay too boring. The administration required for sixty five provinces makes it not even fun.
Question: Does anyone on this site play AOE III, and do you have an ESO account?

  • Evarinya

    InfiniteImprobablilty:
    Interresting..
You seem to be very well aware of the detail and background of the subject Writing v.s. Storytelling.
Have you ever debated on this subject before?

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Im sorry, i put “doof” in my earlier post. it should have been “good”. Im not really sure how that happened to be honest.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

InfiniteImprobability, I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts, and actually look forward to your next. You make some very good ponts about the whole storyteller vs. writer concept. Have you done any of your own writing?? If not, i personally think that it is something you should look into. You are very doof with your words and it would be a shame if you let that go to waste.

  • Joanna<3

    Wow, InfiniteImprobability!
You are very good at saying what you want to say! 🙂 Have you done any writing yourself? Because you sound like you would be a good writer 🙂
And, I completely agree with you. I believe that an author needs (as you say,) to be a good storyteller and a good writer. There are not too many authors that have a good grasp at both tho 🙂

  • Freedom11

    InfiniteImprobability,

I believe your right. one of the reasons I love the Inheritance Cycle is because of the relationship between Eragon and Saphira. They love each other and will die for each other. I just think it’s something so special.

And I don’t know what makes a good writer or storyteller, all I know is that I love the Inheritance Cycle and will love it forever.

  • Freedom11

Hey, is it possible there might be another dragon egg?

  • InfiniteImprobability

I think that whether or not a reader wishes to be immersed in good storytelling or good writing depends on to which he/she will most likely connect on either an emotional or intellectual level: specific ideas and content or literary meaning and depth. In other words, good storytelling appeals to the emotions, whereas good writing appeals to the intellect. Now, this statement is based on my belief that readers do in fact read for these two reasons, which seems to me to be a reasonable conclusion, wouldn’t you agree?
Okay, it might just be me (I don’t read every post on all the forums), but I haven’t seen any true literary analysis of CP’s Inheritance Cycle. (And if there are any, they are likely few in number) I believe this to be the case because it, as I suspect, doesn’t gain its strength from good writing, but rather from good storytelling. As a result, the discussion I have seen on the Cycle seems to me to be based purely on emotional interest in what will happen next in the story. There might be an intellectual component to the arguments for/against a certain theory, but I believe the underlying motivation for these arguments in the first place is to provide an outlet for the emotional investment one makes in reading the books.
The reasons for making such an investment, in my view, are as numerous and varied as the readership. Thus, whenever someone criticizes the Cycle for it’s poor writing (without praising it’s good storytelling), I believe the readership (as is true for fans of any author) feels the validity of their emotional investment in the story to be threatened, hence the occasional emotional outburst. But this, of course, is true for any interest an individual possesses. Essentially, I believe every individual interested in good storytelling usually does so to feel or experience a certain emotion. (Whether the reader is conscious of this desire or not) This is in contrast to those interested in good writing, as are, for example, students of literature; they, in general, at least appreciate all works of literary merit. As a result, the appeal of CP’s Inheritance Cycle (and that of any good storyteller) for readers around the world depends solely on the personality and experiences of each individual reader.

  • Freedom11

Yeah, I thought about that a little while ago, I going to be SO happy when book four comes out, but yes I’m going to be sad, because what’s going to happen to this site? I love coming here and seeing what everyone has to say and chatting with all of you guys.

Although, in just two weeks since I figured how out to post everyone is getting bored with the Cycle. I think that’s funny. (sad kind of funny).

And if people think I don’t make since, well I have a headache.

  • Tulkas

Aragorn- The Fourth Age? Well, I believe that there is some mention of it in the history of Middle-Earth… Not that much of it was revealed to me in the Music, but Tolkien abandoned it. Something of how for lack of something to do an orc-cult arises amongst the young of the Reunited Kingdom, if I remember the Return of the King appendix correctly… I tell you, there’s this computer game called Fourth Age Total War that’s based of off Rome Total War that takes place in the Fourth Age. Good enough.
Sirsimon- I belive that your question is one of loyalty. We’re pretty loyal, I think.

  • Evarinya

I think that whenever CP finishes the series.. that this particular website should become just a Christopher Paolini fansite. That way even when The Inheritance Cycle ends.. we will still be able to see what CP is doing next :]

  • Smoke

I am ready to hear about the movie news Mike has in store for us though.

  • Smoke

    @InfiniteImprobability

I agree with you to a certain extent. To me I guess a good story teller would be the best for me. In the end, it all depends on the person reading the words and turning the pages. Everyone likes something different, if not the world would be very boring.

To everyone else, The Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind is an alright series to take your mind off of Inheritance for a while. It is a long series, but it is complete. No Waiting.

  • sirsimon

No problem, feanarang Like I keep saying, fans should look out for each other,

And I was wondering, when book four is done and the inheritance cycle ends, what going to happen to this site? And of the fans?

Because I have found out that once a tv series or a book series ends, news comes to a standstill and the number of people visiting the site drops by over 80%

I’m not kidding, it sounds bad

  • ShurtugalLiam

    *i meant strange*

and im glad we can all debate about authors and such 🙂 i agree with most of what was said, CP needs time to write the book so it will be good for us 🙂 else when we do get our hands on it we’ll be moaning “he rushed it” it “wasnt very good” etc etc.

and i agree with what was said about the EPIC FANTASY stuff 🙂 i think tbh theres no other way you can have an epic fantasy storyline without a nobody becoming a somebody…

  • ShurtugalLiam

    [email protected]

i knew that lol 🙂 my thought pattern was a bit starnge and i couldnt remeber who wrote the lotr series, so i just put that on the end lol, 🙂 and i LOVE the chronicles of narnia,i know who the author was lol 🙂

  • RiseAgainst

@InfiniteImprobability You took the very well written words right out of my mouth!

But let us not forget Christopher Paolini’s age, he is in my opinion getting better with age (or experience) I think I will wait a few years before comparing his work to the greats.

  • aragorn

    @GLORFINDEL and all lotr fans

Do any of you know what happened in the fourth age.No mention of it.

  • Freedom11

    Smoke,

    I agree with you.

  • feanarang

    @InfiniteImprobability:

Well said! I absolutely agree! I personally prefer my authors to be both good storytellers and good writers.

    @Glorfindel:
Dude, thanks for backing me up. I appreciate that. I haven’t read any books by David Eddings. So how about we both borrow “That Hideous Strength” from the library. Then we can compare what we think about it. Oh… but I’ll have to reread “Perelandra” first. I just barely ready “Out of the Silent Planet” for the second time.

  • Evarinya

Wow.. long post there buddie xD

  • InfiniteImprobability

I believe that a distinction needs to be made here between a good STORYTELLER and a good WRITER. It is my opinion that the difference lies in whether the author engages in the original and unique application of borrowed PLOT (It is very rare that the plot line of a story has not been used in some shape or form by another author in history. After all, in the broadest sense, all authors tell the same story: that of the human condition) and/or the original and unique application of borrowed specific CONTENT.
For example, let’s compare CP’s work to Tolkien’s work. BOTH borrow specific ideas from other sources: CP borrows the idea of dragon riders, the manner of communication between dragon and rider, the ancient language, the races of dwarves and elves, etc.; Tolkien borrowed ideas from Norse Mythology, Greek mythology, and the idea of a magical ring. But what is the difference between these two authors’ work in terms of quality writing and story telling? Tolkien enhances the plot of an epic journey (a plot utilized many times before) by injecting meaning, complexity and ambiguity into an original COMBINATION of unoriginal ideas, thereby creating an original spin on an unoriginal plot. Therefore, in Tolkien’s case, his work is BOTH good storytelling and good writing. CP, on the other hand, is (in my opinion) a good storyteller, but not as good a writer. His work does indeed include an original combination of unoriginal ideas and concepts (otherwise, why would so many want to read his work?), but his writing lacks real literary meaning and complexity. Sure, one may point out some symbolism and interesting character dynamics, but to me it lacks the well roundedness and poetic beauty the Lord of the Rings possesses. Also, I believe it important to note that I do not think that mastery over the english language necessarily denotes a good writer. (Although it often does) I would not dismiss CP’s work JUST because of it’s inferior writing style as compared to Tolkien’s work. Good writing is more than just knowing what words to use and where to put them.
The same can be said in the comparison between JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series and Ursula Le Guinn’s A Wizard of Earthsea. A Wizard of Earthsea, written in 1968- DECADES before Harry Potter, is the first story to include the premise of wizards going to wizarding school (An idea, as you know, later adopted by Rowling). The main character, Ged- a wizard, learns the ways of magic- magic derived from the use of an ancient language that describes and may be used to command the true nature of things (sound familiar??). A Wizard of Earthsea implements MUCH Jungian imagery and meaning into the plot, creating a story (otherwise seemingly simple and short) that possesses ambiguity and complexity. Le Guin herself has said her inspiration for writing the story was to put a spin on the well known conception of wizards by exploring where they come from. I believe that Earthsea is both a story written by a good writer AND storyteller (Though not as good a storyteller as a writer), but I am sure that many of you (Not just on this site, but the general reading demographic) have not heard of it. I think this is the case because the Harry Potter series is written by a better storyteller than writer. Don’t get me wrong, Rowling IS a good writer, there is much meaning in the progression of Harry’s life; I know for a fact that some university professors do NOT belittle the Harry Potter series as merely a fun story with no literary significance; only in time will history show whether or not it is treated as such (the confusion lies in how interesting the storytelling is- it has captivated millions, but is its literary treatment not biased by those who classify it as just the latest “fad” and, similarly, by captivated fans who blindly accept the series as a masterpiece?). I just think that Rowling’s storytelling eclipses her writing and Le Guin’s storytelling (readers probably emotionally connect to Harry more than they do to Ged), which is why it is so much more well known than A Wizard of Earthsea.
I think the real question is which do readers prefer: good writing, good storytelling, or both? Depending on an individual’s answer, there will be of course greatly varying opinions on whether an author’s work is good or not.

  • RiseAgainst

Arguing about which author is better or not than another is pointless. As we all have our own opinion and are not going to change anyone else’s opinion.

@feanarang I have not and probably will not read the dragon riders of pern so I could care less about it’s borrowed material. There are probably alot others who have read IC and not the other so I personally don’t see the problem. That being said I agree with you about IC not being written as good as LOTR and others, but why would that make it not considered “truly epic”?

  • Glorfindel

Oops, I meant to include that almost all of the dialogue while crossing the bridge, and after, are almost identical. Also, that wasn’t technically a quote.

  • Glorfindel

Haha, Feanarang, that’s hilarious. I too have read Out of the Silent Planet, and Perelandra. I read them a couple years ago, and have yet to read That Hideous Strength.
I would like to say something to Smoke. This is a quote from a book by David Eddings, who wrote his books in the eighties and nineties, long before Paolini wrote his.
There is a scene in one of his books wherein a few travellers are crossing a bridge, and a man tells them to pay the toll or they don’t cross. They agree, hand him the money, and cross.
While some of them complain to the leader that the man skinned them alive, it comes to light that one of them cut the man’s purse and took even more than he had taken from them. Familiar? Yes.
Again, in a different series by the same author, A young one is learning to use his power. His teacher tells him to draw in the energy from his surroundings.
“Do not take it from ME!” The old man exclaimed.
    “Sorry Grandfather”, said Garion.
Again… I could go on, there are many instances in all of his series that are extremely similar to Paolini’s books. Just bear in mind that Edding’s came first.
    Anyone else read them?

  • Tulkas

    Smoke- I agree with you.
Ronnie- Yes, but I heard that when asked Christopher didn’t even remember it, which means that it is of little to no importance.
Everyone else- Wow really sparked quite a debate. As far as I’m concerned, the only literary work that I have read that is better than Christopher’s is the Silmarillion, and all of the material that Christopher Tolkien didn’t put in it (I was reading the fall of Gondolin earlier in The book of lost tales 2), though I have not read the Dragonriders of Pern. If I am correct, then LotR (counting The Hobbit) had a much longer waiting period for it than the Inheritance Cycle did. As for the Star Wars thing- Christopher took a lot of things from different works, added his own elements, and improved them.

  • feanarang

    @Glorfindel:

I have read “Out of the Silent Planet” and “Perelandera,” but I have yet to read “That Hideous Strength.”

    @Smoke

I know what an epic fantasy is. I have zero issues with authors following epic fantasy plot lines. CP has done more than that. Read the “Dragonriders of Pern” series. I don’t understand why people are flaming me. I enjoy the IC. I’ve bought all the books so far. I will buy Book IV.

Oh, and please don’t put words in my mouth. That’s how rumours get started. I never said CP copied his magic. His rules for an ancient language that describes the true nature of things is the most original thing about his books.

And that’s pretty much what I said too. CP is just starting. Who knows how good he will get as he matures as a writer. Writing and publishing Eragon at the age of 15 is a huge accomplishment. All he needs to learn is that he can’t put specific content from other stories into his books. And it helps if his plot lines are original too.

I will also politely ask you (Smoke still) whether you have read the LotR saga and its companion novels. Or read the Chronicles of Narnia. In terms of being well written (as any English professor will tell you), CP doesn’t even come close. The IC is a good story, and I enjoy it. It just can’t compare to “epic fantasies” that truly are EPIC.

    @RiseAgainst

All I’m saying is this: Exceptional authors (Like Tolkien and Lewis) are influenced by others. It would be ludicrous to assume otherwise. These exceptional authors do not, however, copy specific content. They are simply influenced by the current culture as a whole. Read the “Dragonriders of Pern” series. CP didn’t take any plotline from this series, only SPECIFIC CONTENT how the dragons bond with their riders and how they talk to their riders.

    @sirsimon:
Thank you. Glad to see that others share and support my opinions. 😉

    @ Joanna<3-
I see what you mean. If you think about it, the 4th book will be the ending of Eragon’s old life and story…..but the Beginning of his new life not in Alagaesia. Hmm. Never thought about that. Good point!

  • Joanna<3

    @ SolembumRulesTheEarth
I don’t know why it is called a cycle, but in an earlier comment i mentioned the author Ted Dekker, the series by him which i mentioned is also called a cycle… the circle cycle to be exact. I don’t doubt this has any standing at all to do with CP’s fourth book in the IC, but in the Circle Cycle, the fourth book is an ending and a beginning to the series, thus the circle and the cycle… don’t know if that helped at all but… 🙂 thats one way to see it i guess 🙂

  • sirsimon

Mordor, I agree with you, as much as I love the inheritance cycle, I’m starting to lose interest, Paolini isn’t a fans man, he basically writes the book, and keeps us in the dark only until a few months before its release.

And Solembumrulestheearth, I agree with you in the fact that until I hear more interesting news of book four, I won’t have much interest, We want something new, the guide was good, but was just a picture book, I have read the three previous books over nine times now, its starting to drag without book four.

And finally, its true, Tolkien defined the aspects of fantasy, because all themes he invented in his book have been used in others, with Weis, Paolini, Goodkind and McCarthy to name a few, the only true fantasy authors are the ones that can write something amazing without lending too much off other works, Paolini excluded of course 🙂

    (smug smile)

  • Smoke

First of all, I am tired of everyone saying that CP has copied his ideas from someone else. His story is totally original. The LOTR and Star Wars are what is called an EPIC FANTASY. Read the definition, learn it, memorize it, then post your opinions when you know what you are talking about. ALL EPIC FANTASIES follow a chain of events very similar. Boy/Girl who is nothing, finds out he/she is really something, on the side of good, beats the bad guy. What else would be similar, the fact that these books have magic. So what you are saying is that because someone else told a story say with magic, no one else can write about magic without being a copy cat. Even though, his way of using magic is original, he must be copying someone. I have read alot of these post and you all claim to be die hard inheritance fans, but you bad mouth CP and insult the time he is spending on the book to make all of us happy. If he was to hurry and mess something up he would have a bunch of people like you bad mouthing him again. I would take my time too. The last book in the series is surely the most precarious. Last but not least, it is my OPINION that CP is equally as good, if not better than Tolkein and Lewis. He wrote Eragon when he was 15. He is only 24 now and he has already wrote three great books and working on the Fourth. He is just starting.

  • RiseAgainst

@feanarang I am not knocking your opinion, but I am knocking the statement you made about CP and Tolkein etc., being influenced by others. Of course they were, EVERY author is inspired/influenced by others. And it’s not a bad thing and it doesn’t mean that you can’t still be original. And as for your boring (just my opinion) Star Wars/Inheritance Cycle comparison, you could say that about alot of fantasy novels.

@others If you are looking for a series to read while you wait tirelessly for book 4 you should check out Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law series. Just a warning, he writes dark, somewhat bloody, character driven books that don’t always end with the typical “happy ending”. If you are looking for something different to read I would recommend it for the characters and fight scenes alone.

@ Mordor I didn’t like the last movie either, but what does that have to do with Rowling “milking it for all it’s worth”? She wrote the book(which was good) that the movie(not so good) was based on. Not the other way around and if she wrote 10 more Harry Potter books I would read them.

  • Glorfindel

Just so you know dear boy, Lewis didn’t write LotR. Tolkien did. Lewis wrote the Chronicles of Narnia, and a whole host of other ones. Has anybody read Lewis’s space trilogy? Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength?

  • Ronnie

does anyone remember that hatched green dragon egg eragon stepped on

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Solembum, I haven’t really been gone, I just haven’t posted. I’ve been checking for updates, but I haven’t really been reading the comment boards. 😀

  • ShurtugalLiam

Wow … so many arguments in one day 😛
but at least someone hit my thoughts here … its like .. if theres any star wars a=fans on here you might have read the plotlines for the next 3 films that they’re probly never going to make, and how its like the jedi order has been rebuilt, HOW?

its like how is saphira and ONE other dragon (that is assuming thorn and shurikhan dont survive the war) going to rebuilt the entire dragon race without inter-breeding? :/ i just dont see it happening tbh …. so theres go to be more dragons out there somewhere.

and in my opinion it goes; J.K Rowling, CP, Lewis 🙂 cause i aint read the lotr series lol

  • SolembumRulesTheEarth

    Something I was wondering recently-

Why is it the Inheritance CYCLE? That just roll off the tongue well for me. I think something like ‘saga’ would fit better. I mean, Twilight’s a 4-book series and it’s called a saga, Star Wars is 6 movies and it’s also called a saga. I’ve never even heard of a book series being called a cycle.

Anyone agree/disagree with me? Something I’ve been pondering.

  • Joanna<3

    @alucard
just wondering if you got your nickname from Ted Dekker’s books Black, Red, White and Green?? dracula spelled backwards lol 🙂
if not, has anyone else read these books or any other Ted Dekker books? he is a very good author, very original books 🙂
    @ Mordor
Yes i agree with you ( and others) who are losing interest in the IC it is just taking sooo long to have any news… not that i don’t want to read the books/ finish the series anymore… just waiting…
    @ Glorfindel and Feanarang
I absolutely agree with you 🙂 i have not yet read any books that match up with their level of story telling… and i have read a LOT of books 🙂 I would have to say that Tolkien and Lewis are some of my very favorite authors 😀
    ***
(sorry for length lol… i haven’t been on here for like two weeks 🙂 )

  • feanarang

    @PGtir:

Don’t presume to enlighten me about Tolkien. I know that he was influenced by Norse mythology (mythology of an entire people, not the stories of one person). Tolkien defended “Beowulf” when many of his fellow professors were critisizing it. Have you read any Dragonriders of Pern novels? You will see HUGE similarities between the IC and those books. Look, I’m not saying that CP is a bad writer, he’s just nowhere near the league of Tolkien.

And the similarities don’t stop with just that series. Look at Star Wars versus IC: Old wise “wizard (Kenobi/Brom)” befriends brash young boy. “Wizard” trains young boy in the ways of an ancient order (Jedi/Shur’tugal). “Wizard” dies defending young brash boy from evil king/emperor’s enforcer(s). Boy fights big battle, singlehandedly (with help of distraction Millenium Falcon/Arya riding Saphira) destroying the enemy’s most potent weapon/servant. Boy then goes to a far away land/planet to learn from old wise mentor (Yoda/Oromis), who is part of the ancient order.

See where I’m going? I’m not saying that CP is a bad author, just an semi-unoriginal and fairly predictable one. I’ll admit, he’s moved away from the Star Wars theme in Brisingr (Kudos to you, Chris!), and he has shown that he’s matured as an author. When he’s 50, I’m sure he’ll be amazing. The IC’s lost its lustre for me as well, I just want to know for sure how CP will express his ending.

As for Tolkien and Lewis knowing each other, I knew that as well (see my last post). I know they influenced each other. In fact, Tolkien led Lewis to become a Christian. That’s how well they knew each other and how much they influenced each other.

I still hold that Tolkien invented the modern fantasy genre, however, because he was working on LotR from the time he was wounded in WWI. He was bedridden for a long time and came up with much of his language during this time.

Like I said earlier, everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, just please don’t attack me for stating mine.

  • Freedom11

I MAKE myself lose intrest when I obsess, and obsess, and, obsess about the Inheritance Cycle and when the waiting for book four becomes to much. So I guess you could call it a hiatus (I don’t know if that’s the correct term for it or if it’s even the right spelling). Just a few months ago I did that. From May to October I didn’t read any Inheritance books, or think about them or visit any websites. But I have to do that or I very well might go insane:)

  • SolembumRulesTheEarth

Although I am about as much of a die-hard Inheritance fan as they come, I have to admit that I’ve kind lost my interest in book 4 for the moment. I mean, we haven’t heard any estimations on when in might come out, any news about CP, no new interviews….nothing.

And like I said, I am die-hard Inheritance. They are my favorite books and CP is my favorite author, but the whole waiting for Book 4 for forever is getting old.

    *sigh*…

  • PGtir

    @feanarang
if you are saying that CP is not as good as Tolkien, because he was inspired by other authors, then let me enlighten you. Tolkien was heavily influenced and inspired by Norse mythology. And as for Tolkien “pretty much INVENTED the fantasy genre”, another incredible Fantasy author C. S. Lewis lived at the same time, and was a friend of, Tolkien. Tolkien did not invent the fantasy genre, although I cannot say he did not influence it incredibly, and certainly made it popular.
*note I am not saying CP is as good as Tolkien, per say, just he is not worse for drawing inspiration from others

  • feanarang

@Glorfindel: I agree. Wholeheartedly. Tolkien and Lewis were in a league of their own. Which is not surprising, since they were actually very good friends.

    @ everyone else:

You can’t even begin to compare CP to Tolkien. Much as I like CP, it’s quite obvious he’s been heavily inspired by other authors (J. R. R. Tolkien and Anne McCaffrey [Dragonriders of Pern] to name two).

Tolkien pretty much INVENTED the fantasy genre. If you disagree with that, then I’ll say that he defined what modern fantasy is today. He was a literary genius on the level of Shakespeare. The world will likely never see a fantasy writer of his calibre again.

So Mordor is right. You can’t compare any author to Tolkien.

That’s my opinion, you’re welcome to differ. (not sure why you would, but you’re welcome to.)

  • Glorfindel

Mordor: Yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. Part of that is just because It’s been so long without something new from Paolini. But a lot of it is just that even from the beginning, I wasn’t nearly as big a fan of Eragon as I was of LotR or The Chronicles of Narnia. Don’t get me wrong, I like Inheritance, but not as much as a lot of other people.
And yeah, I’ll say it again, Paolini comes nowhere close to Tolkien or Lewis. Neither does Rowling.

  • Evarinya

    Mordor
Yes. I know that I feel pretty much the same way. Christopher is an amazing author, but Eragon is losing its touch on me. Sure, I still REALLY want to know what happens in Book IV, but its losing its excitment.. :[

    AHh..I just had an idea.
You guys were talking about the possible Dragon Riders being resurected?.. Well.. I have a theory.
Since Eragon made that promise to Saphira that after they had finished everything up on Alagasea, then they would go searching for the other dragons, well, Eragon had that vision of two dragons in the sky, and 2 people arm in arm leaving on a boat.. What if that was Saphira, Eragon, Arya, and Greeny? And Arya and Greeny wanted to help Eragon and Saphira with their search for the other dragons?
Because.. isn’t it pretty obvious that the dragon riders won’t rise to power again without the help of others? Well.. Thats what I think. Its just a thought.
Feel free to contradict and comment xD

  • Mordor

Pardon, fan404, but I have read Artemis Fowl, and the proper series ended after The Time Paradox. The being the final sixth book Would you be speaking of mangas of comics?
Unless Eoin Colfer has sunddenly decided to make more . .?

    @Wow:
CP is not Tolkien! He, most likely, was inspired by Tolkien. And Rowling’s just milking HArry Potter for all it’s worth, I think the last movie was BAD. Anways, Tolkien was a pure genius.
Don’t compare him. Now, of course we have a lot of LOTR fans on this site. And would anyone agree?

The Inheritance Cycle for me isn’t good anymore. I read Eragon a year ago and I haven’t been waiting like most. But I still have been waiting a long time for this book and I think it is upsetting.
I’ve just kind of quit it. I just want to read it book four, and fin. I guess it’s just lost my Eragon fanatic senses.
    Anyone feel this way?

  • Freedom11

Well as I said we should discuss something else. How about will the Dragon Riders be resurected?

I don’t know, it can go both ways, Saphira can mate with both Thorn and Greenie giving a few eggs. And if no killed the dragons until someone comes back with more dragons (that’s what I think Eragon will leave Alageasia for to find more dragons) giving more of the dragons in alageasia someone to mate with.

Or maybe in book four they’ll find another egg?

Or it could be as Hrothgar said “….the Dragon Riders will never rise again.” Or something like that.

So now we have something else to talk about:)

  • fan404

wow(guest, thattle get u killed! i am goin 2 taze u in the middle of the night! (i know a guy…) (waves hand infront of face) pwned! u cant see me!!! furthermore, cp is about 2 pass J.R.R. Tolkein! and thats alot!!!! i swear 2 god if he dont get than friggen book done!!!… and, yes, i am offically mad(at least, if the WHOLE MERIT class says i am, than i am(and yes, im in merit)

  • Glorfindel

Oh it’s fine. I’m certainly not offended. I’m just remembering the last time people got REALLY mad on this site.

  • sirsimon

Ok Glorfindel, I apoligse, and Wow, I’m sorry too.

  • Glorfindel

Good grief people. “wow (guest) that was creul of you, give people respect where its due”. He wasn’t saying he’d like Paolini dead. This really isn’t such a big deal.
    Lay off.
“only Tolkien and C.S lewis have come close,”.
We’re entitled to our own opinions, dear boy, but you will never convince me that Tolkien and Lewis are somehow behind Paolini.

  • Glorfindel

And I’m sorry, but Christopher will never be in a league with Lewis or Tolkien. And as for Rowling… I wouldn’t say that he’s as good as she is quite yet.

  • Glorfindel

Firestone: Granted, but it could be rebuilt.

  • sirsimon

Wow (guest) that was creul of you, give people respect where its due, people come on this site to love his works, not berate about them, join another group if you want to say such **** about Christopher, and by the way, he’s the best author I know, only Tolkien and C.S lewis have come close, so have respect!!

  • SolembumRulesTheEarth

My gosh, I haven’t posted anything in over a fortnight! 😀 actually longer than that but it feels good to be back!

and welcome back, Padfoot! How long hve you been gone? I don’t think I’ve posted in over a month. wow.

@ Wow- Not to carry on a fight, but seriously, don’t try and harsh on CP on Inheritance’s number one website. Seriously, not cool, and you’ve gotten creamed by fans.

ahh…feels good to be back. So what’s new among the world of Inheritance that I may have missed?

  • Freedom11

    Cally

Same here getting the book would make me want to read Book four even more:)

And plus I think there are drawings in it; it’d be nice to see those.

  • Cally

I do too, it would be cool to see what he thinks what would happen. I bet he has a bunch of good theories. I’m just afraid to buy it because it might spoil the book for me. haha It prolly won’t spoil the book, it might make me want to read the fourth book even more. It’s at Barnes and noble, Amazon, and half.com

  • Freedom11

I think we should all talk about something else, so Cally I’ve heard about What will happen in Eragon IV and I would like to get it. I think it would be cool:)

  • apah

Please, everyone. This just gets me irritated…Wow(Guest) never said s/he didn’t like Inheritance or CP. He also was just stating his own opinions. I think you all are implying things that are not directly stated in Wow(Guest)’s post.

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Wow(guest) you went too far with that. CP is an amazing writer, and the Inheritance cycle is spectacular. CP is right up ther with the great writers of our time, and you should give him the credit he deserves. If you do not like him or his books, why are you here? I don’t see the point of you being here!

  • Freedom11

Wow. I was going to say something (to guest) but it seems like everyone covered everything we could say to guest.

Just, if you don’t like the Inheritance Cycle then don’t read it. And I consider Paolini one of the greatest writers of all.

And to everyone else, this person may have posted in a fit of rage (maybe because of personal problems, who knows?) and may regret it.

  • Evarinya

    :S Hey Wow.. watch it.
Im sure that if you say anything else bad about CP on here that a million Inheratance fans (Including me!) will be all over you.
Please watch what you say on this site about CP and his writing. This IS a pro-Inheratance fan site 😛

  • apah

hey. back off a little, please. Wow(Guest) never said s/he didn’t like Inheritance or CP. The only thing s/he did ‘wrong’ was post his/her opinion.

  • Tulkas

@ Wow; normally I prefer to not get involved in disputes on this site, but Christopher is a good writer who is better than J. K. Rowling, athough they are both passable writers, and, while not as good as Tolkien, his books are better than The Hobbit at least. If the series is stupid, then why do you want to finish it? And why do you go to the bother of searching out Shurty, just to insult the book, and by extension the likes of everyone that visits this site? Don’t log onto the number one Inheritance fan site and insult our book series, please.

  • Evest

Wow(guest) hey watch what you say, because that my friend is a dangerous comment. That is taboo with Inheritance lovers. And besides I have fellow book lovers here to back me up. Long live Paolini. Plz no flaming.

  • brisingr…

wow(guest) that is not cool. if you dont like christopher paolini, why in the world are you on this site. Tolkien and Rowling are AMAZING authors, but christopher happens to be good too. In my opinon he is up there will legendary C.S. Lewis, Orson Scott Card, and even Terry Brooks.

  • Cally

Has anyone read “What Will Happen in Eragon IV: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Becomes the Third Dragon Rider and How Will the Inheritance Cycle Finally End?” by Richard Marcus? I was was just wondering.

  • Wow

I’m sick of QandA’s, I’m sick of happy holidays…Why can’t Chris just frikking finish this stupid book already? He isn’t Tolkein, he isn’t JK Rowling, he’s not a good writer, but i jus want to finish this stupid series.

  • sirsimon

I agree with you, I fear something terrible is going to befall one of the main characters, I know its sounds strange, but only three/four main characters have died, the toll would be higher if they were going against the one that killed THOUSANDS of dragon riders,

    IN ONE BATTLE…

  • davidlewing(Member)

I was wondering if there were any plans for more Q&A sessions. I saw a question about this earlier but it was not answered.

    Thanks for you efforts.

Also I am again having problems with my account. I log in and type my message and click post and red letters appear saying that I am not logged in and my login status changes to “logged in as .” I tried clearing my cache which worked last time but no success

    Again, thanks

  • AlagaësiaWanderer

I’m fearing that something tragic is going to happen to Roran, or better, with his family. I’m reading Brisingr again and the threat from Birgit sounds really ominous. I think Birgit will kill Katrina after the baby is born. I don’t think Roran will go mad, but as close to it as possible…
Anyways, as for the future ruler I see it between these two: Nasuada or Roran. But most likely Nasuada.

  • Senbonzakura

    @alucard
Yes, I have read the Eldest. And thanks of the greeting!

About the “who will be the king after killing Galby” thing:I think the new king will be Nasauda. What else can she do? Maybe she becomes a dragon rider or she dies, but in my opinion these theories are ulikely. Roran is a better leader, but he wants to live for his family.

  • ShurtugalLiam

    @PadfootUnewraithSlayer: –

welcome back! 😀 how has your holidays been etc etc? 🙂 and no you havent missed much lol 🙂 theres hasnt been a hint or anything ..

    @fan404:-

Its weird i understood what you said … but its true enough that you have a lot on your plate, this website is for fans of the inheritence series, which means we can moan on here about THAT, not anything else. but your point is valid :/ we should find something else to moan about while we wait for new posts ….

and i think everyones balancing on the Roran-Nasuada fence. I think Roran has skills as a leader and can inspire people, but as so rightly posted below, he only wants to raise a farm and family. Whereas, Nasuada IS a leader and has unwittingly took up that role, albeit with forcing eragon and saphira to do what she chooses (even if the outcome is to their advantage), plus theres the hint of Elva’s with the Queen of the world thing … and someone said if murtaugh was free then they could marry, but what about thorn? … well think of eragons vision … a man standing on a beach, screams out as the boat sails away…

i think thorn leaves with Arya and eragon aboard the dragons wing and leaves murtaugh and his new wife in alagaseia.
But then what about the last dragon egg?…..

mmm i cant wait for book 4! xD

  • sirsimon

Welcome back PadfootUnewraithSlayer, you haven’t missed much, there has been no updates from Paolini on book four, nor has the opportunity arisen to submit questions for the fifth Q&A.

We have all been talking about the possible clues in the guide to alagaesia and about certain theories for book four so I hope this clarifies things and brings you up to speed.

I am also a middleman on if Nasuada should be queen or not, she has courage and preservance to ensure future success, but she doesn’t have blue blood like Roran, and there is a hint that she is a good leader, but is strict and brutal, e.g. Whipping Roran for saving others and ordering Eragon and Saphira round like servants, you’d think that a rider with awesome magical power and bonded with possibly the most powerful creature ever would take orders like that!

  • Firestone

Guys, just to let you know something. I think that some of you are under the impression that all the villagers, including Roran, go back to Carvahall, to start a new life. That was Roran’s intentions. But Eragon’s guide to Alagaesia was narrated by Eragon, that is, Eragon was supposed to have written it, and written it after this whole. . . thing. He was describing everything the way it was right then when he wrote it, and he was describing it as gone. He said that right then, it was gone, but only lived on in his memory. I don’t think there will be any returning and resettling Carvahall, as sad as that is.

  • Freedom11

I support Nausuada being queen, I think Roran would be a good leader, but really all he wants in life is to farm and raise a family with Katrina. And I think CP gave us a hint when Elva said, “….She Who Would Be Queen Of The World….”

I believe Nausuada has really proved her love for the Varden and for Alageasia. She would be a terrific queen.

And I hope Murtagh and Thorn become free, then Nausuada and Murtagh could marry. Nausuada herself has said she wants love. But that leaves Thorn. I wonder who would be his mate?

  • Glorfindel

Haha, ok. Shows how observant I am 🙁

  • Freedom11

    Evarinya,

Ha, ha! I’m laughing so hard my sister was worried!I wonder if that would be the first time a author was kidnapped by a bunch of crazy fans?

Hey you get the car and I’ll…. but no we’d go to jail.

P.S And don’t worry I know you were kidding:)

    I hope you were kidding:(

  • Evarinya

So the main thing is.. we just can’t wait for Book IV. GAHH the wait is going to kill me! 😛
Lets go kidnap CP and make him tell us what happens in book IV >={D

I support Roran being king. He is obviously a great leader. He would be a very good king I think 😀
At least better than Nasuada X_X

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Yeah, Glorfindel, I’m the real Padfoot, I never got an account on here, mate. 😀

    So, did I miss much?

  • fan404

i nevar said i wasn’t eager… its just i am going mad!!! and, there are more than 6 Artemis Fowl books, duh!!! all im saying is i have alot of stuff that im waiting for… IM GOING MORE MAD THAN CARA SCOTT!!!!!! (and, she is INSANE!!!)!!!!!!

  • alucard

Hi Senbonzakura! Did you read Eldest (book 2)?
And don’t worry about your English. You write it better than many of those who grew up in the US. And I know, because I live here!

  • Mordor

fan404, you’ve read Artemis Fowl? And what do you mean the end? There’s only six books, and I’ve never heard of a show nor movie.

I have a a great idea! I think that we should just drop the “When’s book 4 gonna come out?” Theory. Now, if we could get a random hint from CP I would not be surprised. However until that time, I’ll shred my Eragon book waiting. It would make great paper for a fire. 😀

I agree, I cannot see it coming out before 2011 muchless winter 2010. I want to be terribly, wrong, like all of us supporting this date. I just wish CP would come to Shur’tugal and see all the fans waiting, waiting for a hint for when book 4 comes out.
I’m dropping it since I can’t see anythings else in it, ‘cept complaining.

Does anyone think that Roran will be king?
I do not support this, however reading CP’s writing style I would not be surprised. Definitly considering he’s related to Eragon who’s supposed to kill Galby, and Eragon would have sway over who becomes king . . . . .

  • Senbonzakura

Hello! This is my first post here (I hope my grammar is correct because English is not my native language). I recognised that this Cycle exists only in December. I finished the Brisingr two days ago. It was awsome!! I read Eragon even at Christmas:) However I was very sad when the shop assistant told me that the last book hadn’t been released yet:( So, CP has got one more enthusiastic fan who is waiting for him. But as I can see there is a lot of good stuff here until he finishes…
Hold on, Book 4 will be published soon (or not:)

  • DuSundavarFreohr

    Sorry about that…
    1) Mean**
    2) For**
    3) Different**

  • DuSundavarFreohr

Ummm Fan404, if you don’t mind, could you please write in sentences that everyone can understand? I mena, if it isn’t too much trouble. Also, the release of Book IV is huge!! We have all been waiting so long fir this. It isn’t our fault you are reading 5 or 6 differebt series right now is it?? No. So don’t go preaching to us that you’re needs are greater than ours.

  • sirsimon

Evarinya, thanks for sticking up for me, fan404, I am sorry if I keep mentioning that I am desperate for book four, but lets face it, we all are, after the climax of Brisingr, you can understand it, we just all want to enjoy more adventures with our favourite characters.

But you are sort of right, patience is needed, if Paolini rushes it, then the book that is supposed to be the best in the series will suck and become rushed.

The moments I am looking forward to is the heart to heart chat between Thorn and Saphira, or the green dragon, and the final climatic battle between Galbatorix and Eragon, it will be fantastic.

  • Freedom11

Well, I know I can’t wait for Book IV. My family must be sick of me talking about it:)

  • feanarang

    @sirsimon:
That does mean Book IV and the Hobbit movie at the same time. 🙂

    @Glorfindel:
Padfoot was always a guest. I seem to remember her having some beef with signing up.

  • Freedom11

    sirsimon

    Thanks:)

    alucard

    Thanks for the link:)

  • Glorfindel

Padfoot… The real Padfoot is not a guest I don’t think. Is this the real Padfoot?

  • Evarinya

    Eh not much 😀
Just a bunch of ranbling from everyone!
Haha.. no offence or anything! Im just messing with you all.

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Hello, wow, I have missed alot! Sorry I have not been on, what have I missed???

  • Evarinya

    Fan404
Erm.. Could you repeat that please? Didn’t understand a word of it :S
Are you saying that we are making a big deal out of a little thing? Because if you are, you are very mistaken. The 4th book coming out is very important to all of us.. and we can make a big deal out of it if we want 😛
Im sure everyone doesn’t exactly care if we are making a big deal out of it.. because it IS a big deal. We want it to come out as soon as it possibly can. Are you saying that we can’t do something like that? Is that a problem with you? …Because honestly.. I don’t care xD And I think that alot of us could say the same.
Please just let us complain. It’s what we do best ;]

  • fan404

look, ittle come out in 2011. and u think u r desperate? i am waitin 4 the end of the bartimaous trilogy, this series, the end of artemis fowl, hp7(parts 1 and 2) the hobbit(1 and 2) andthe lightming theift(and others)! u think yours is biting the biscuit!?!!!!!!!!

  • sirsimon

lol, it ok Freedom11, we were both right, and I have noticed the calender, my inheritance cycle sense is tingling to buy it, but I have no money, recently buying a book on how to improve my writing as an author.

And feanarang, I recultantly have to agree with you, the release date is beginning to make sense,

but hey, that means book four and the hobbit film at the same time, good times….

    (smiles smugly) 🙂

  • alucard
  • lionelmessi

WHAT CLUES CAN BE GAINED FROM ERAGON’S GUIDE TO ALAGAESIA

  • Freedom11

    alucard

Dose this calendar have all inheritance pictures? And could you tell me where it is? I can’t find it?

  • Cally

Yea who knows, we just got to wait for the book to come out and see if this or any one of the many theories out there are true.

  • alucard

Did you guys know that Palencar has a 2010 calendar???

it has big pix of Glaedr and Thorn in it…

  • Evarinya

Hmm.. thats an interresting theory. I bet he is at least important somehow.. Hmm.. who knows?

  • Freedom11

Maybe that’s the question Tenga’s trying to answer, where the Rock of Kuthian is:)

    But probably not:(

  • Cally

I was reading Brisingr today and I thought of something. I read the part about Tenga, then I thought about the rock of kuthian and the vault. Tenga may have something to do with the rock or the vault. He has so much information that could prove very helpful to Eragon. Someone may have already said this, but I don’t know. Oh, he may have information on the Rock of Kuthian, since he is so many scrolls of the ancient language and other things.

  • Freedom11

A few days ago I said that elves considered dragons dumb animals. I just read that part again and it says they thought they were mere animals. So I just wanted to say that I was wrong and you were right sirsimon.

  • feanarang

    @sirsimon:

I’m serious. If it comes out any time before 2011, I will be extremely surprised. Extremely happy, but extremely surprised. I want Book IV to come out as much as the rest of you do, but I think in between August and Christmas this year (2010) we will see a release date announcement for midway through 2011.

I hope I’m wrong and that it comes earlier, but I just can’t see how that’s possible.

  • Evarinya

Happy New Year Everyone!! 2010 :]

  • MeghanSwiftSword

    Happy New Year!!!

  • sirsimon

    midway though 2011!

Are you serious, we can’t wait that long!

Its bad enough I have to wait impatiently for the hobbit film, but this just bites the biscuit,

It will be out I think winter 2010

  • feanarang

Happy New Year! This decade will see many wonderful things happen in the world of sci-fi and fantasy. The Hobbit Movie is scheduled to come out at the end 2011, we will hopefully see Book IV of the Inheritance Cycle midway though 2011, and Starcraft II will hopefully go through Beta in the early portion of this year.

  • sirsimon

    Sorry about that,

I meant definately that the green dragon is male, not female.

    LOL

And on another note, I think the next update is coming very soon.

  • sirsimon

    Happy New Year everyone,

hopefully this will be the year of the fourth book’s release.

And about the green dragon, its definately female, in the book, maybe you are supposedly the rider of Saphira’s child, since Eragon said something about being accepted into the family.

  • Tulkas

May the stars of Varda bless us and may the wicked plans of all that wish to do us harm be thwarted. Se onr sevedar sitja hvass! Happy New Year!

  • jhjhg

    So, what is it?

  • Taslin

    Happy new Year from Portugal!!!

  • Freedom11

    Joanna<3

Your welcome. The Guide is great! I wholeheartedly recommend it. Hope I didn’t spoil it for you.

  • Joanna<3

    freedom11; really? i didn’t know that. unfortunately i haven’t yet read Eragon’s guide 🙁
It’s funny tho, i seem to remember that quote from the books somewhere… hmmm. strange brain of mine lol 🙂 oh well
i guess i’ll have to go buy it so i can see make some guesses and predictions of my own. 🙂 thanks for the clarification 🙂

  • Freedom11

    MeghanSwiftSword

Yup, Murtagh stated that the last egg is male, he also said Morzen was Eragon’s father. Sounds like Galbatorix might be wrong.

I would like it if there was a new generation of Riders, although in a few years there might be chaos again.

Hey, maybe if Roran is the new Rider, and the dwarves don’t want the Riders started up again they kill Greeni and Roran is on the beach wailing….but no isn’t likely, as Arya is most likely the next Rider.

  • MeghanSwiftSword

    Freedom11

That’s true, it does say that the dragon that “hatched for us” is female. That could have something to do with the green dragon.

The only thing is, Murtagh stated in Eldest that the dragon was male, and I’m pretty sure that C.P. confirmed it as well.

Well spotted though, Freedom11. Maybe it has something to do with a future generation of Riders.

  • RthuEndra

    HNY everyone!

  • Freedom11

Joanna<3, that quote was from Eragon's Guide To Alagaesia, the letter from Eragon to the new rider. It's on the first page of the Guide.

  • Joanna<3

Freedom11, I believe that the quote you are referring to was arya talking to eragon about how it was a great honor for saphira to have chosen him as her rider, not about the green dragon egg that galby has. But, of course I could be wrong… Do you have a page number for that quote?

  • fan404

ne1 notice in the gi=uide, but at the map, it says place of riders, and it is not past tence…

  • Freedom11

sirsimon, is the clue in the letter that Eragon and Saphira are going away? Or the dragon egg is actually a female? Quote: “It is a great honor when a dragon choses you for her rider.” Oh and the elves thought that dragons were dumb animals.

  • Firestone

Eragon.Saphira, even if it were like Eragon in every sense, but just different characters and places, it would not breach copyright. Copyrights give the author or maker etc. the right to do what they want to do with it. They are also there to mostly keep others from using that object to advertise something illegally. But the only thing in movies tat is copyrighted is usually names and title, but story lines are not copyrighted.

  • sirsimon

I am currently scanning through the guide I had for christmas and I am looking for clues, one such clue is the letter from Eragon at the first page of the book

By the way, Eragon.Saphira, I am going to watch the film, its looks good and somewhat adorable.

I hear you in the fact its similar, but there are major differences,

    – The main character’s father is the tribe leader, not a farmer.

    – The world is viking, not medieval

    – The dragon, Toothless is male, not female.

    and finally,

    – No one thought dragons were dumb or a pest in the inheritance cycle.

I have yet to find the word pest associated with dragons in the cycle LOL

Eragon says he is unable to visit you because of something coming up, what thing exactly?

  • Freedom11

And in the Guide it shows a person, standing at the razed Carvahall. So maybe in the next book the villagers will return. I love the Inheritance Cycle!

  • Glorfindel

Mike, not that it matters, but you mentioned that you would be changing the site theme and background back to
Glaedr. Are you still planning on doing that, or leaving it like this? Personally, I like this one better. There’s more detail, and it’s more interesting.

  • zeroslash

Well, actually, Eragon.Saphira, the film is based off a children’s novel of the same title. At the time of the book’s release, Eragon was just being rereleased through Knopf. So, it’s not really the author’s fault, since she probably wasn’t even aware of Eragon’s existence.

  • Eragon.Saphira

    Happy Holidays everyone.
Have any of you seen the trailer to the new Dreamworks movie How To Train Your Dragon? It follows a very similar story line to Eragon1 the elf: everyone thinks dragons are dumb animals until one guy decides to get to know one of them, the main character starts to ride his dragon in the same way that Eragon1 did and shows the village that they are intelligent and they should stop fighting the dragons.
I am going to see this movie when it comes out, but I do wonder if it breaches copyright? I mean a story that similar to the Inheritance Cycle? What are the odds?

  • MeghanSwiftSword

    @ShurtugalLiam

    Thanks.:)

    @jhjhg

It’s a great series. You should try them.

  • jhjhg

I’ve just heard people talking about it. I wanted to know what exactly it was.

  • ShurtugalLiam

I was hoping to buy eragons guride to alagaesia .. but all the stocks have run out atm -.- lol
so hopefully ill get it in the new year, and i agree … you should read the books jhjhg, how did you ever stumble upon this site if you didnt know what or who eragon is??

and keep posting guys 😛 i like these theories, well done MeghanSwiftSword for picking that up 😀

    you guys rule!!

  • Freedom11

I think that Eragon and Saphira will go to Doru Araeba on Vroengard, because in Eragon’s Guide To Alagaesia, we see Eragon and Saphira flying at Doru Araeba.Thoughts on this?

  • jhjhg

ok thanks 🙂 was just wondering

  • AregetSeithr

I think that CP wrote the book to take place after the whole cycle is over. I think there might be more raz\’zac in the next book.

  • Evarinya

    jhjhg
    ..Um..?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Have you ever read the books? If not.. why are you on this site? xD
    Eragon is a book..If you havn’t heard 😛

  • Mordor

Pardon, jhjhg did you just ask ‘what is Eragon’? Did I hear right?
Not what is Eragon, who is Eragon.
To answer to strange question – Have you read the books? If not then, Eragon is the greatest man (save Murtagh) to walk our imainations. Hope that helps.

Yeah prorabably wtiting until next fall for th book . . . . . .

  • MeghanSwiftSword

🙂 That’s one of the many things I love about this site. You can post without having to have an email.:)

  • Freedom11

Hey MeaghanSwiftSword that’s exactly what I thought too! I couldn’t figure out how to post before. I have some other theories too! I’m so happy that I can post!!!!

  • jhjhg

    What is Eragon?

  • Evarinya

Hmm.. Well, I guess we won’t know untill we read Book IV :[

  • Mordor

    Ooh, that’s interesting.
I agree that would be terrible I’de hate it if they died. 😛
But it might mean somthing . . .

  • sirsimon

Interesting theory MeghanSwiftSword, I noticed that too,

maybe Eragon (aka Paolini) wrote the guide during or after book four, so that would make sense.

  • Hello?

Way to keep us posted. It’s like we don’t exist…

  • MeghanSwiftSword

Hey, just noticed something in Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia. Remember how C.P. said “If you pay close attention to what he says, you may have an idea on where the series is headed.”, or something along those lines? In Guide to Alagaesia, there is a section on Dragons, and there is a footnote titled “Dragons of the Empire.” Notice how it says: Thorn and Shruikan were both slaves to Galbatorix, and their forced servitude twisted their minds.

It says that they WERE slaves to Galby, not that they are now. It might not mean anything, but maybe it is implying either:

A: They are both dead(Which would be unfair and COMPLETLY suck.).

B: They freed themselves and are now free.

    Theories, anyone?

  • Mordor

Thanks to the very, very special Shur’tugal Staff! Happy Holidays 😀 and I’ll be watching for tpose giveaways!!!!

I’m not sure if any other holiday celebrated on the twenty-fifth besides Christmas. What othr ones are there to celebrate. So, in that knowledge, I prefer to say ‘Merry Christmas!’.

  • ShurtugalLiam

yeah happy holidays everyone! 😀 have a great start to the new year and enjoy your vacation mike 🙂

  • yehboy

comon mike post the eragon movie thing ahaah, it seems so long ago wen u said it im losin my mind lol

  • Mike

Keep an eye out on the site, I’ll be adding the last two rounds of book giveaways shortly after Christmas (I’m on a bit of vacation from work right now so it’ll be a few days). We’re starting some more giveaways in the near future as well.

I’ve got a lot of cool editorials planned for the website to keep us going through news lulls and I’ll be looking to hire someone to help me keep the news posts going fresh in the future as well. And last but not least, we’ll be opening the front page up to the visitors – people will be able to write in with editorials and those published will get some sort of reward (signed something or other).

    Anyway, Merry Christmas!
