After the release of Eragon on DVD, rumors started flying that Christopher Paolini confirmed the title of Book 3 during his Eldest interview on the bonus disk of the DVD. We can officially tell you that Christopher Paolini did not confirm the title of Book 3 during the Eldest interview. The title of Book 3 still remains unknown and will be officially released by Christopher and Random House some time in the future.
How did this rumor start? Christopher was discussing the war at the end of Eldest, and was quoted saying: “And so we have forced conscription going on in the Empire, we have this huge human army gathering to attack the Varden.” Christopher’s comments were assumed to have been about Book 3, even though he only referred to Book 3 as “Book 3” for the entire interview, and was clearly discussing the events at the end of Eldest. “What we have is Galbatorix, having attacked the Varden in the first book, gathers the bulk of his forces to really eradicate them in the second book. And so we have forced conscription going on in the Empire, we have this huge human army gathering to attack the Varden. And of course, there’s a new villian or enemy who shows up at the end of the book who is a bit of a surprise, I think.”
