Biography
Djimon Hounsou was born and raised in Benin. He was sent to live with his
older brother in Lyons, France, where he dropped out of school and moved to
Paris at the age of 13. He was unable to find a job and ended as a
vagrant, sleeping under bridges and rummaging in trash cans for food. Things
changed for the better when fashion designer Thierry Mugler discovered him and
made him a fashion model. Hounsou then moved to Los Angeles. He was
cast by David Fincher in the music videos "Straight Up" (by Paula Abdul) and
"Express Yourself" (by Madonna), and appeared in Janet Jackson's music video for
her song "Love Will Never Do Without You". In 1990, he made his film debut
as Sandra Bernhard's ex-boyfriend in "Without You, I'm Nothing". Hounsou
continues to impress movie goers with his acting skills in many popular movies.
