THE DETAILS:

This position requires 2-4 hours of work per week. You’ll conceive a topic and develop/write an article, which you’ll edit for grammar/spelling/overall composition and submit for publication on the website. You’ll then go through a round of edits with Mike before the article hits the web. We ask that you submit a minimum of one to two articles per month (more is great!).

These articles will be the heart and soul of Shur’tugal. Tens of thousands of fans visit the website each week in search of news and information about Book 5, and we’re aiming to provide even more of that in the form of regular theory and discussion articles.

Once your article goes live (with proper credit and attribution), you can join your fellow fans in the comments and on social media as they discuss and enjoy your work!

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A CONTRIBUTOR:

An ideal individual for this position meets the following criteria:

  • Passion for the series, of course!
  • A strong command of the English language (spelling, grammar) and ability to self-edit
  • Produce articles that require little editing/revision
  • A creative mind and fun-to-read written voice
  • Ability to hit self-set deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with little oversight
  • Optional: Past experience writing (creative or otherwise)

It is essential that you be able to work in a timely fashion and without the need for micromanagement. Our team is available to chat and answer emails whenever you need, however, to ensure a smooth and efficient process, applicants must be able to work independently and meet self-set deadlines. Communication is key!

COMPENSATION/INCENTIVES:

Shur’tugal’s monthly costs exceed the little revenue we generate from advertisements, and because of this, we’ve established a tiered reward structure to compensate our writers! For every X amount of articles you contribute, you’ll earn rewards ranging from autographed Inheritance Cycle goodies and gift cards to signed copies of the books!

  • First article: Select autographed Inheritance Cycle goodies
  • Second article: Select autographed Inheritance Cycle goodies
  • Fourth article: Select autographed Inheritance Cycle goodies

We’re looking for a fan passionate about a reboot of the Eragon movie with a desire to share ideas and analysis on how that could happen! We’re looking for 1-2 articles per month and have a number of ideas to help get you started. This position is ideal for those who still haven’t gotten past the travesty that was the Eragon movie and, having experienced many successful adaptations since, want to discuss ways a reboot could happen, how to ensure its quality, and other adaptation ideas (animated series, television show, etc.).

Your work with Shur’tugal can be used on resumes and job applications! We’ve had a number of contributors successfully do so in the past.

We’re trying something new: abbreviated weekly news round-ups from fandoms outside of the Inheritance Cycle. To accomplish this, we’ll need a contributor keeping track of the week’s biggest fantasy/scifi news stories (books, movies, television) for a weekly round-up post featuring roughly one paragraph per story. Aside from keeping an eye on the news each day, this job will require 1-2 hours per week of writing.

If all goes well, we’ll be considering expanding into posting news stories as they happen as well as discussion posts for weekly episodes of popular fantasy shows and new films!

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A CONTRIBUTOR:

Our new series of posts will be released on a weekly basis and will contain brief summaries of major news stories that we feel will appeal to the Inheritance Cycle audience (think Game of Thrones news, movie and video game announcements, etc.). Toward the end of each week, you’ll brainstorm with the site’s staff to determine which stories are worth including (anywhere from 5 to 10 total). From there, you’ll summarize each story in one paragraph.

We want this feature to be a reliable source of news round-ups for our visitors, which means we need to post the article consistently. We’ll need a contributor who can commit to getting this article written and published on time, set for a Saturday or Sunday release each week. We’re looking for someone who will be in this for the long haul (with breaks where needed, as long as they’re communicated ahead of time), so please be sure you’re ready for a commitment.

Specific criteria for the position:

  • An individual who regularly follows fantasy/scifi news about books, movies, television, and optionally (but ideally) video games
  • A strong command of the English language (spelling, grammar) and ability to self-edit
  • Ability to meet a weekly deadline (keeping our article release times consistent)
  • Produce articles that require little editing, revision
  • Optional: Blogging experience

Optionally, you can include a writing sample (which will speed up the process).
