What is known:
- The dragon is green (as is it's egg)
- The dragon is male
- The dragon will hatch to someone with 'logical inevitability'[1], but also as someone who is 'symmetrical'[2]
- The green dragon will feature on the cover of Book IV
[edit] Where is the Green Egg?
The main possibilities of the whereabouts of the green egg include:
- Uru-baen - The castle of Galbatorix would be the safest place for him to keep the egg, and the most logical. Also, it is known that all three were in Uru-baen when Saphira's egg was rescued.
- Dras-Leona or Helgrind - Galbatorix was reportedly going to visit Dras-Leona during Eragon, leaving his castle for the first time in many years. It could have some connection with the egg. Others believe that the Raz'ac were protecting it, but since Eragon didn't find it in Helgrind, this theory is less probable.
- Morzan's Castle - As mentioned in Brisingr by Oromis, Morzan's castle still stands, near the north west coast of Leona Lake, and is being used by Galbatorix. Its isolated position also makes this a possibility.
- The Vault of Souls/Rock of Kuthian - Solembrum mentioned the names as important. Therefore there is a possibility that the egg is hidden amoung one of them.
[edit] Who will retrieve the Green Egg and how?
- Jeod was searching books for any remaining secret passage ways into the main cities of the Empire. It is possible he might find one into where the egg is, although this could be a little repetitive and Galbatorix may have learnt from his previous mistakes.
- As Arya is the most popular choice for the new Dragon Rider, many believe it will be her who rescues it.
- Murtagh and Thorn are within Galbatorix's inner circle, and so probably know where the egg is. If they manage to break the King's hold on them, it is very likely that they will either rescue the egg (as recompense to the Varden, perhaps) or help in its capture.
- The last possibility is that Elva will retrieve the egg. For since Eragon released her from the necessity of acting to help someone, but she is still able to sense all weaknesses, she could penetrate Galbatorix's defenses with the greatest possible success.
[edit] Will the Green Dragon's Rider be on the side of the Empire?
- So far, the Empire has two Rider's, the Varden has one. If the egg is to even the balance, it would go to the Varden. However, if Murtagh and Thorn escape Galbatorix's clutches, the numbers would be reversed.
- It is mentioned throughtout the books how powerful the King is, due to his Eldunari, and if the Green Dragon and its Rider fight for the Empire then the Varden's chances would be slim indeed.
- It has been confirmed that the new Rider will have been in all three books so far, and we have met very few agents of the Empire in the books, especially in Eragon. This makes the chances of the Rider willingly serve the Empire very small.
