[edit] The deal with all the images...
Okay... ALLLLL of those images that are solely on userpages and talk pages...most of those people like...NEVER come on here anymore!!! So I have two suggestions. 1. Just delete them and let them get angry that their pages are image-less. 2. I'll in some point in time make a photobucket account for ALL Shurtugal Images that our users can use to upload their user/talk page images, and then I'll just save all the images on there and replace the pics with the URL and delete all the images on here.
- 1 sounds so much easier...but I'd be more than happy to work on #2 if I really have to. :) I have a whole day off of school on Thursday due to being exmpt from an exam, so I'll have plenty of time then! --Heir Of Eragon 15:19, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
If any1 else has any other suggestions, please do tell!!!!
- There is already a rule against images that exist solely on user pages and I comment on user's profiles when I see them. However, I have not been able to make such an effort priority for myself. You can of course make it your own project, if you'd like, to enforce this rule. There is a {{deletion}} tag you can stick on images that exist only on user pages. This tag will automatically notify me of things needing deleting. I will then be able to quickly evaluate and delete it. Also, you can warn the users that their images have been nominated for deletion and give them a chance to rebuttle images they feel hold some value for Eragon and to add them to relevant articles.--TParis 13:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
And why exactly can't we have images solely for user pages? 24.34.32.52 18:42, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Several reasons, 1) Mike does not pay for your free image hosting site, 2) It uses bandwidth and server storage space, 3) It makes it difficult for me to do updates and maintenance on the server with the large amounts of useless images; Backups take over and hour currently, 4) Wiki works by using cron jobs and massive indexes. Having these images makes it so Wiki takes longer to process these jobs and create these indexes. The benefits just do not compare to the disadvantages. This is something Arthryn agreed with me on, so we implemented the rule.--TParis 20:11, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation. 24.34.32.52 22:29, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
