[edit] Overview
According to Oromis, when Ra'zac reach their twentieth year, their true bodies free themselves from their twisted shells and become Lethrblaka, winged beasts whom are fit to hunt any creature that lives and moves. The Ra'zac that are still in their shells use their parents, who are Lethrblaka, as transportation. Also, they are described as having "all the intelligence of a dragon. A cruel, vicious, and twisted dragon." as opposed to their narrow-minded yet cunning offspring.
In the Ancient Language, Lethrblaka literally means leather-flapper, deriving from the word Blaka, which means flapper, or winged.
[edit] Appearance
According to the third chapter of Brisingr, they have bulging, rimless, black eyes, a seven-foot-long beak, bat-like wings, claws like iron spikes and a naked hairless torso rippling with muscle. During the beginning of book 3, Roran and Eragon attack Helgrind. During the assault, both Lethrblaka are killed by Saphira.
[edit] Role in books
In Eragon, Eragon suspects them to be dragons, but their true forms are revealed outside of Carvahall in Eldest.
In Eldest, [[Roran|Roran Stronghammer]] encounters them on his flight from Carvahall three times: When the Ra'zac capture Katrina and Sloan, when they are searching for the villagers on the trail, and on the banks of the ocean, where it is revealed that they are deathly afraid of deep water.
In Brisingr, Eragon and Roran attack Helgrind to free Katrina. When they enter they are attacked by both the Ra'zac and Lethrblaka. During the fight, Saphira kills both Lethrblaka, which were the last know members of their species. Eragon manages to kill one Ra'zac, then chases the other down and kills it, after telling Saphira to leave with Roran and Katrina.
[edit] Random
John Jude Palancar will be releasing a drawing of the Lethrblaka that he is drawing for the second novel of Brisingr in Japanese. Japanese writing is so big that it will be published into two novels. The same thing happened when he drew Glaedr for the second part of Eldest. This same drawing was later used in the American version of Brisingr.
