Jormundur is the Captain of the army for the Varden. He is also in the Council of Elders, but is careful not to abuse his power there. He was controlling Eragon's battalion at the end of Eragon. He tries to get Eragon to join the Council of Elders but Eragon refuses.

Jormundur was also Ajihad's right hand man, although Jormundur said only in "military terms". He quickly gives his loyalty and service to Lady Nasuada, the heir of Ajihad and Ajihad's daughter. Armed with a trusty sword, he is a fearless and cautious warrior.
