Jarnunvösk was Galbatorix's first dragon. Her color is not yet known. Her name, like Shruikan's one, was spared from the "Banishing of the Names" because the dragons believe that it was not her fault that Galbatorix became insane. She was killed when Galbatorix and a couple of other young dragon riders went into territory that Urgals resided in, thinking that their new powers would protect them. Only Galbatorix and his dragon survived to fight in the end. However, before they killed all of the Urgals, a stray arrow, shot by an Urgal shaman, with pierced Jarnunvösk's heart. Galbatorix went mad with grief.

Jarnunvösk's gender is a matter of debate, as in Eragon, it is clearly stated that Jarnunvösk was female, however, in Brisingr, the opposite was clearly stated. However, Paolini himself on a interview for Shurtugal.com, she is female, and the Brisingr male version was a spelling mistake that only appear in the oldest versions.

The Jarnunvösk name is, too, a kind of mystery. It translation is not given in Eragon, and it does not seem to be Ancient Language. Obsiously, the three words "Jar nun vosk" exists in slovak, and means "Spring nun wax", that is not really a great name for a dragon.
