A Falchion is a single edged sword.

When Eragon returns from the Empire he realizes he needs a sword so he goes to Fredric the weapons master. He offers Eragon many swords until he finally decides on the falchion. Eragon reinforces it with magic but during the time when Eragon is having an attempt on his life, it is destroyed in Farthen Dûr.
