[edit] The Gods
[edit] Gûntera
Gûntera is the king of the gods. Gûntera was born fully grown to a she-wolf and had to slay many monsters to earn a place for his people to live in Alagaësia. The dwarves pray to him before battle and burn offerings at solstices, before sowing, and at births and deaths to keep the god happy. He appears to the dwarves whenever they crown a monarch; the new king- or queen-to-be must first be accepted by Guntera, or else they are rejected by their people and inherit an empty title. When he saw that Helzvog created the dwarves, he created the race of elves to best him.
[edit] Kílf
Kílf is the goddess of the sea and Gûntera's wife. Kílf is the only one of the dwarven pantheon who did not create a race.
[edit] Urûr and Morgothal
Urûr is the god of air and the sky. His brother Morgothal is the god of fire. The dwarves believe that Urûr and Morgothal love each other so much that neither can exist independently. The sun is Morgothal's firey palace in the heavens and the stars are the sparks from his forge. Together, it is said that they created the race of dragons by intertwining their two elements.
[edit] Sindri
Sindri is the mother goddess of the earth, who created humans.
[edit] Helzvog
Helzvog is a humble god, but perhaps the most favored and loved among the dwarves because he was the maker of the dwarven race, forming them out of stone. The dwarven priests claim that stone is living, using coral as their evidence.
[edit] The Creation of the Races
After all the giants had been slain, there were only the gods in Alagaësia. Helzvog secretly formed the first dwarf out of the roots of a mountain. When the other gods discovered this act, they grew jealous and made their own races so that Alagaësia would not be controlled by Helzvog's dwarves. Gûntera created the noble elves. Sindri made humans from her earth. Urûr and Morgothal worked together to create the dragons. Kílf alone restrained herself and did nothing and the races of Alagaësia were born.

[edit] Eldest
When Eragon visits Tarnag he learns of the dwarven gods from the high priest, Gannel. Gannel shows Eragon a hall of their statues and explains their story. It is the first time someone not of Dwarven descent learned of the Dwarves' religion. After Arya arrives, she insults Gannel by stating that the religion is false.
