Disney recently debuted the trailer for their upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ adaptation… and fans are thrilled!
What’s this have to do with Eragon? Well, with the recently announced Eragon television adaptation also happening on Disney+, there’s a lot we can learn from the outcome of the Percy Jackson series.
Rick Riordan, the series’ author, has been a vocal champion of this adaptation from day one. In fact, Disney allowed the author to announce the show himself! He’s provided updates throughout the development process, assuring fans that he’s deeply involved in the show’s production. This is exactly what we want to see with Christopher and Eragon.
Riordan even appeared alongside the three main cast members at the recent Disney D23 Expo, where the trailer was debuted! Disney putting the author up front with its lead actors sends a key message: the author is core to this project!
As for the trailer itself, fans are thrilled! Percy Jackson, played by Walker Scobell (The Adam Project), narrates the brief trailer, which shows his arrival at Camp Half-Blood. From his casting to the set and even costumes, it’s clear that the Disney+ show hasn’t strayed from the book.
This is a great sign for the Eragon TV show.
As we know, the Eragon movie, released by Fox in 2006, was a massive disappointment. Production strayed far from the books, didn’t involve Christopher Paolini, and made some really goofy decisions (Urgals styled as WWE wrestlers, for example!).
Of course, it’s still the early days for the Eragon TV show, but it’s never too soon to start hoping for the best. Christopher recently clarified whether the show would be animated or live action, and updated fans on the show’s status, saying that things are in the “early stages but moving fast.”
