Halloween: Costume ideas and sets for Saphira, Firnen, Thorn, Urgals, and Werecats!

which-character-shurtyHalloween is right around the corner and many Inheritance fans are eagerly looking to celebrate the holiday in style… dressed as their favorite character from the series! In our first article, we offered costume ideas for Eragon, Arya, Murtagh, Angela, and the dwarves! Today we’re offering more costume ideas covering the series’ dragons – Saphira, Firnen, Thorn, and Glaedr – both in human and dragon form (allowing some “creative freedom”), in addition to Urgal and Werecat costumes!

“Humanoid” Dragons

Bring Saphira, Thorn, Firnen, or Glaedr to life with these human/dragon hybrid costume ideas! These ideas allow you some creative liberties with your costume, especially if you’re trying to keep it easy and cost effective! Makeup, props, and more will help pull your costume together.   • Dragon colored dress (shiny, with sequins, etc.) from thrift shop OR elegant dragon colored suit, clothing (billowing shirt, loose pants), shiny where possible (can cover with costume gems, rhinestones, and glitter paint)
  • Prop wings made from paper plates (easy and cheap tutorial here)
  • Tinfoil dragon horns (easy and cheap photo example here)
  • Alternative horns: cone-shaped paper water cups painted the color of your dragon
  • Fake costume nails for claws (found at a Halloween costume shop)
  • Dragon tail (found at a Halloween costume shop, either as a dragon tail or even a “devil’s tail,” which you can paint a different color)

Urgal

One of the series’ more fearsome races, the Urgals can add fright and awe to any Halloween party! This costume is easy to pull together, allowing creative liberties and some fun times tearing and aging clothing!   • Torn, aged, dark clothing (ripped shirts, pants… leather where possible, dark colors, red paint for blood stains)
  • Tinfoil horns (easy and cheap photo example here)
  • Huge plastic sword, axe, etc. (found at a Halloween costume store – consider adding red paint for blood stains)
  • Vampire fangs (found at a Halloween costume store)
  • Dirty, aged, scarred face (use face paint or makeup)
  • Fake/real facial hair (use facial wigs, face paint, or makeup to create this effect)

Werecat

  • Cat ears (found at a Halloween costume shop, headband)
  • Cat tail (found at a Halloween costume shop)
  • Face paint with menacing eyes, whiskers
