Happy 31st birthday, Christopher!

Today marks our favorite author’s 31st birthday, and what better of a way to celebrate than with a Saphira cake?

saphira birthday cakeChristopher first wrote Eragon when he was just 15 years old. It’s hard to believe that 16 years have passed since he first brought Alagaësia to life! This is just one of many interesting facts about the author…

  • Christopher was homeschooled for his entire education and graduated from high school at 15 – the same year he wrote the first draft of Eragon
  • Christopher applied to and was accepted by Reed College but chose to defer his attendance to promote the self-published version of Eragon
  • Christopher and his family first published Eragon in 2002 through their small company, Paolini International, LLC.
  • Christopher’s books have sold over 35 million copies in fifty-three countries
  • Christopher sat atop the New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher Weekly bestseller charts for each of his books
  • Christopher was awarded a Guiness World Record for being the “youngest author of a bestselling book series” (awarded on January 5, 2011)
  • Christopher is colorblind, which influenced the unique way Saphira sees the world
  • Christopher based the early version of Eragon off of himself (and initially named Eragon “Kevin”)
  • Christopher based Brom off of his father, Kenneth, and based Angela off of his sister

!Felicidades, desde Puerto Rico, Paolini! Perdon se que estoy tarde.
Happy Birthday, from Puerto Rico, Paolini! Sorry, I know I’m bit late.

Well, I loved Eragon, for it was the start of all but. Not just Inherithance but also to try and wright my own things or story; what ever it is. I loved Brisinger the most. i found that it had the details that gave shape to the story. I was at the start of my university studies when I read Eragon, I think I was…18 give or take. I was 19 when I continued with Eldest and 20 with Brisinger; something like that. i still have to finish. Although it’s the “last book” I have enjoyed the ride until now.

Gracias Paolini, looking forward to your future efforts!

Seems silly , but your first book meant a lot to me , had reread it several times …even when in the hospital had it on my bed w/ me to read/ concentrate on…instead all of what was going on around me….jjust thought want to be around to see how the adventure ends….then felt bad that when promoting last in series missed you when you came to nyc at the midnight book signing, would have like to had my very dog-eared book signed!…look forward to your future efforts!

Happy belated Birthday!! I just can’t decide which book is my favorite… I was/am 14 and this is my 3rd time reading the series! The Inheritance Cycle is definitely my favorite series, with the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel behind it (faaaar behind it). 😉 Love your work and can’t wait for your new books!!

  • Brisingr fan #1

Happy birthday I was 12 when I first read eragon but I prefer Brisingr I have read your series twice thanks for the great reads

  • Andrew Murtaghkin

Brisingr is my favorite I first read Eragon Deluxe edition when it first came out. I believe I was turning 16

  • Murtagh

I really liked inheritance the most. Probably because it had the most of Murtagh. I was 10 when I read eragon. It’s kind of too late to wish Christopher paolini a happy birthday now.

  • Maya

My favorite book in the inheritance cycle is Brisingr because that’s when Arya first starts to show Eragon affection, but they don’t have a sad parting.

I first read Eragon when I was eleven. I’m twelve now and I still think it’s pretty awesome.

Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are not enough exclamation points in the entire world to explain how awesome the Inheritance series is, and I just love the last one (Inheritance) sooo much. I probably read Eragon while I was eight or nine(second grade). It’s one of the best series I have read (serieses? Serieae? Is there any real plural for series?) in my short life. Happy birthday Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well let me think I was 17 when I read the first Eragon book and all the others that follow after it in The Inheritance Cycle. I saw The film first at the pictures When I was 10 or 11 so I did not know it was a book until later on in life. Happy 31th Birthday Christopher.

  • David Gauthier

It is hard to believe that Eragon came out when I was only 4….but the entire cycle is just fantastic!

    Happy Birthday!

  • Aine Dragon

I fail miserably every time I try to explain how much I love Inheritance.
All I can say is Thank you. 🙂

    Have a wonderful birthday!

  • Timotej Benigar

Happy birthday! I’ve read Eragon when i was 13 and have followed the other 3 books of the cycle. I loved all the books, but I was really disappointed with the ending. Well, “disappointed” isn’t the right word, since i truly loved it nonetheless, so i guess i was just kind of sad. It was because the cycle came to an end too.
The things that i grew up with were the greek myths and stories about dragons.
So The Inheritance cycle was my favourite story until I discovered the Percy Jackson And The Olympians series.
The Inheritance cycle is my seckond favourite then i guess, because not even dragons can match my love for Greek and Roman mythology.

Rick Roidan pretty much got me through childhood, but Eragon and Harry Potter were my personal favorites. Each to their own, I guess.

  • Theodore

Happy birthday Christopher, I am Theodore from Greece. I was 15 when I enter to the beautiful world of dragon riders, dragons, elfs, dwarfs etc. I loved those books and when I ended Inheritance was like the end of the world. The end was unexpected but also bad and good at the same time. Happy birthday once more!
    PS: Write a fifth book!

Hi, good luck to 31 birthday. My name is Ludmila Dostálíková is 14 years old and I’m from the Czech Republic, in the middle of Europe. It’s about a year since I začetla toEragon.
I want you to ask what led to that you started writing Eragon and Eldest, and Brisingrlater and Inheritanc. I wonder what was the inspiration and, according to what you’rethe decider of the plot of the story? I HOPE you read my comment and that you will understand my broken English and perhaps even the trashing. Otherwise, happy birthday. 😀

Yea, i waited 2 years to give it a chance(not much of a reader when i was younger) but boy am i glad i did it. I share my birthday with Christopher, just different years. I was given a copy of Eragon for my 13th Birthday, way back in 2006, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Christopher came to my country two years ago, and he signed all of my books, I had to buy new hard cover editions of Eragon and Eldest, as my original paperbacks had worn out!

  • Lauren Heaslip

    Happy Birthday!

I was eleven when I first read Eragon, and nine years later I’ve re-read the books multiple times.
