Christopher officially announces his next project: a sci-fi short story lead-in to his planned full-length scifi novel

Christopher Paolini has been a busy man on his Twitter account! Since joining the social update site in November, the author has logged over 1,000 “tweets” — which he celebrated by giving away a signed copy of Inheritance — and has answered hundreds of fan questions in the process. Yesterday, Christopher used his Twitter account to announce that in addition to playing Skyrim, he’s returned to work writing… jumping back into a science fiction short story which he began writing on tour. We have the full four-tweet updated about his next project after the jump!

It’s clear that Christopher’s short story will introduce his next book, which he has teased as being a scifi title (obviously independent from the Inheritance cycle) since finishing Inheritance.

We have no timetable for Christopher’s short story project, so don’t get your hopes up just yet for a soon-to-be-released book from the author. However, it’s clear that good things are already in the making and we may not have to wait too long to get our hands on the next Paolini project.

Are you excited to read Christopher’s take on scifi? What do you think the story will revolve around?

  • Caesar Salad Snake

In Inheritance, there was a chapter named “Heir to the Empire” so I guessed as much beforehand.

  • Jake

I already know the plot… just read lord of the rings…

  • Jon

A funny thing to think about is that the next time I finish one of CP’s series, it might be in +10 years. Since it would take him 3 years per book, and lets say a trilogy, that would be nine years without the breaks and other types of novels he will be writing. Really It could be even 20 years from now when I finally finish another of his series. That’s the one thing I don’t like about his books, the amount of time it takes to write (though it makes his novels way more detailed than others).

  • Jon

Is there any developed feature that would allow me to be notified whenever he releases a novel? I really love his books but I’m afraid I’ll forget about him with my busy life.

  • Murtagh

Can u just tell me this teeny tiny little thing, what is the starting letter plz plz plz…..

  • Werewolf4ever

I wonder what this one will be about. 🙂 I can’t wait till he gives us more information about the book!!!! So glad he is writing again. 🙂

  • Anonymous

    sounds awesome…

  • Laurelleaf9

After reading Christopher’s explination of how he wrote the Inheritance Cycle (how it was form a scientific point of view), I have no trouble imagining an awsome si-fi. Wonder what direction he’s going to head in…

    • Kyuremdelta10000

i agree with u alot good intrest =-)

  • PadfootUnewraithSlayer

Seeing as he’s a Whovian and therefore a sci-fi fan to begin with, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!!!! He’s such a fantastic writer!

    • Kyuremdelta10000

      padfoot from harry potter????
that is my favorite series Harry Potter i love tht series

  • Robsgirl

I finished Inheritance yesterday.  The whole cycle was so engaging and exciting.  I’m sad to see it end.  I do hope that he will someday continue the story with training new dragons and Riders and yes, I want to know more about Angela and her kind.  I look forward to his foray into SciFi as well.

    • Kyuremdelta10000

me as well im gonna miss it i read all four books in two days =-)

    • Zoinkatron1

He is talking about making a fifth book

      • VraelTheRider

where did he say that? i just wanna know so i can see it, i was so sad after finishing inheritance, a part of my childhood dies that day 🙁

        • Salad Snake

I heard such in the audiobook interview, but he said something like, later, not now, but I have the framework already set for at least 2 main books, not to mention side stories that can be written.

  • Elvish 1

I am sad to see the end of the inheritance cycle. I Loved the series, one could almost become lost in alagaesia.. I was however disappointed in the ending.. bitter-sweet, and imo, rushed. Would have been worth extending to a fifth book. I for one, would have waited 🙂

    • Kyuremdelta10000

yea im sad as well will miss it i read all four books in 2 days =-) but i hope he might make a new cycle similar

    • Firnin

I didn’t like the ending too much. I would have definitely gone for another book to put that off, or change it.

      • Oonbiter

yeah were was the crazy hot sex scene with eragon and aria

  • Mark

Something dark with human evolution… Please?

    • Kyuremdelta10000

      i dont believe in evolution

      • The Green Dragon

        But its been proved.

  • Arya

I can’t wait for the rest, Christopher Paolini is an amazing writer, weaving just these words in a page full of rich, wonderful, and glorious dreams.

    • Kyuremdelta10000

youd make a good writer as well…

    • Kyuremdelta10000

im publishing my own book youd lik it its just as good or even better than chris’s you should read it when it comes out ill make a public post on the page

  • Firnin

I hope he doesn’t spend too long on this series. I want him to get back to Alagaesia. If he spends as much time on this series as he spent on Alagaesia, we may not get all of those books he said he had planned out.

  • dragon rider

can another eragon movie be made or is the copyright sold?

    • Purplewog95

be nice to have a new version of that horid movie made

      • Kyuremdelta10000

the reason they cant make another movie is cause they screwed up the first, too many things left out, to many things mixed up, and it was just not at all like the book so they couldnt find a track to take for the second so they can create a second movie =-(

        • The Green Dragon

He doesn’t want a second he said he wanted a remake.

    • Lancek, Rider of Ignitus

I would like a new Eragon movie made as well. What if it was an animation?

      • Kyuremdelta10000

the reason they cant make another movie is cause they screwed up the first, too many things left out, to many things mixed up, and it was just not at all like the book so they couldnt find a track to take for the second so they can create a second movie =-(

CP just made another twitter post!!! He wrote  “Here’s a clue about the short story I’m working on. I’ll be impressed if anyone can guess what it is (no not telling):”
    And this photo was attached.

    • Anonymous

Guessing it’s a bridge of sorts…. maybe attaching planets??

      • Shireman

It’s a cosmological graph of infinity into one equation shown here. It’s called a Mandelbrot set. Very beautiful. 🙂

I’m really bad at math so I don’t get it but yehh 😛

    • It also looks kind of like a wishbone, attached to a pair of shoes.

Maybe it’s an umbrella of some sorts? To be honest with you, I have no idea what the heck it is. Now I really want to see this story.

  • Chopin’s Dopplegangër

Wow. Sooo. . . CP really needs to personally sign my book and write in the back after the THE END:

“. . . And the Saphiria bites off Vanir’s head in a fit of rage.”

I love the Podcasts!! Are they going to go through Inheritance as well? I sure hope so.

. . . an the fact that CP’s writing again is pretty good. 🙂 I sure can’t wait for whatever he has next.

    • Firnin

What’s the biting off the guy’s head part?

      • Chopin’s Dopplegangër

Mike and Lauren said that in a podcast. And I agree at a halfway point (before Eragon’s transformation) in Eldest I hate Vanir. He’s a total elven jerk. Sure he’s fine after they spar as equals however I still highly dislike him . . . and I still side with Mike and Chris Addison on the Nasuada subject. Boy I can’t wait to hear what they have to say at the fact she became queen!! . . .

        • Firnin

Where are these podcasts? And yeah, I realized after I asked the question. I’m re-reading the series, and got to that point. Vanir’s really pissing me off. He’s arrogant, rude, and bringing pain to the only hope Alageasia has. And he seems to think he’s not being rude to Saphira when he does that. I loved the part where she walked up to him, put a claw on his chest and said “dead”. It would have been even better, imo, if she had flicked him across the training field and then jumped on him, pinned him, and maybe broken a bone or two.

          • As long as she didn’t lick him… He probably really wouldn’t survive that.

          • Chopin’s Dopplegangër

That’s one of my favorite parts in Eldest. I love Saphiria’s awesome quotes. A

  • Orox1229

Hmmm . . . what would CP write a SciFi book about? Probably apocalypse/post-apocalypse or way way way way way way in the future pre-apocalypse. Coz really, nothing else strikes me as something he would want to write about (and that his fan base would want to read).

  • Azurian Nathair-Sgiathach

I loved the series and found meaning in a wide variety of actions and words throughout it. It saddened me greatly however, that after all the hardships Eragon and Saphira endured, they were still unable to finally find the peace and happiness at the end of the book that they had been seeking since the beginning of the series. I would have liked to have seen Arya and Firnen join Eragon and Saphira in their departure in order to see each of them finally happy after all they have been through. I personally don’t think a bittersweet ending was the way to end the series, but having written the series and the book, only Christopher Paolini can make the perfect ending as is his right and as he sees fit. I respect that fact, and enjoyed the ending for how it was presented. I am excited to see what the future will bring with the announcement of a new series, and await the day it will be released.

  • Listening to random movie trailer soundtracks, I suddenly thought of a story set in Alagaesia. I think I might write a fan series of my own.

  • Jbilodeau

I hope CP writes a 5th book to the inheritence cycle

    • Mr. Anonymous

He very clearly confirmed that he would in the Boy’s Life interview posted earlier!

  • Wyrda

Doesnt matter what their about, I’m addicted to this series and I need more of the to read !! Keep adding to it please ( :

    • Kyuremdelta10000

      lmao

      • Kyuremdelta10000

        i miss it too

  • This is gonna be good 😀 I really want to know what he’s gonna do with sci-fi.

  • Matthewbiggs

arya should have gone with ergon i think that would have been a better endding and galbatorix’s end could have been more dramatic but i still think it is one of the best series i have ever read and think theres is room for a sequale series expalian the rise of the riders

    • Matthewbiggs

a a prequal series explaining in detail the rise of galbatorix

      • Guest

That would be too much like Star Wars.

    • Matthewbiggs

plus if paolini does a sequal to the inheritance cycle explaining the rise of the new riders some riders could be orrik, rorans daughter or elva

    • JaredBollman

that would be sick or he could even write an entire book on Angela, unless he’s keeping her character’s inner qualities and past a secret

  • Saerina

Will there be another site for his Sci-fi novels? like Shurty but about scifi?

    • No. Shur’tugal will cover all of his books.

      • Anonymous

Are you planning on changing the name of the site to be more encompassing  for his future works, or will you stay Shur’tugal?

        • The name is really important to me, so it’ll likely stay. After all, I spent nearly eight years building this site into what it is now — I wouldn’t want to scrap a lot of that for the sake of changing the name. 🙂

      • Saerina

        Thanks for answering!

  • Anonymous

Finally finished reading Inheritance. I liked reading Galbatorix’s character, but I thought he died in the wrong place of the book. There didn’t seem to be any sense of euphoria from the main characters following Galbatorix’s death: it’s the death of an evil tyrant, the whole series has been leading up to the end of a reign that has poisoned Alagaesia for easily a hundred years, yet when you liken it to, for example, the last Harry Potter book, the ending of Inheritance just felt flat, inadequate. Despite my negativity, I’ve got to say that the very last scene was bittersweet and almost made me well up, and it couldn’t really have happened any other way. Overall the book was a good ending to a series, and had some cool moments, (Eragon’s introspection on Vroengard,) but I don’t think it’s up there with the ‘Greats’

    • Cria

ALMOST made you well up?! I WAS SOBBING! and then i started laughing at myself

      • Firnin

I had a few tears. I’m re-reading the series now, and, so far, I see no reason Arya couldn’t have left with him. When Murtagh is captured by the twins and disappears into the tunnel, Eragon asks Arya to go after him. She responds by saying “for you.” That’s like the third or fourth time she talks with him the entire series. Sure, there are some things strongly suggesting that her going w/ Eragon would be against her character, but there are far more than enough reasons why she could go with him and still have it go with her character.

    • Guest

I agree, I liked the ending and it was fitting. I think that it would have been too cliche to end with Arya and Eragon together. However, I do like to imagine that years down the road they do end up together.

  • Sapphire

As long as the ending of this series is better than inheritance…

  • Jäger

i’am so going to buy this book. but i think i first will buy it in swedish(my home languge) then in english if it’s good. did the same thing with the “inheritance cycle”. i bought the swedish books first then when “Inheritance” came out i bought the swedish book like usual and then the english “Inheritance cycle boxed set”. then ofcourse i have bought “Eragon’s guide to Alagesia” and the Inheritance almanac”. i really hope that this book/serie is as good as the inheritace cycle.

  • JFH

    Cool, I like sci-fi.

  • dylan_of_the

Did Eragon in any point promise Arya they will se each other again? I saw a comment somewhere that he did but I can’t remember 🙁

  • Anonymous

I’m excited for a new genre to start reading, i’ve never read a scifi before. I don’t know much about short stories so is this something thats just going to be posted on his website when its finished or is it something that will be printed and we can buy?

    • a smart guy

You’ve never read Scifi?! I’m not sure where it will be published at, but if you want to get introduced to the genre try Ender’s Game. It’s a really good book and is a good introduction to Scifi.

      • Anonymous

i will do that, thank you for the suggestion!

        • a smart guy

          Your welcome.

      • Anonymous

Another good starting point, IMHO, is the Foundation Trillogy by Isaac Asimov, one of Sci-Fi’s greats

  • Elphiebelphie

sci-fi and fantasy=my 2 fave genres. CP=one of my fave authors. This pretty much just made my day.

  • RandomPerson

I’m not a big fan of si-fi, but at least it’s something from CP that can take my mind off   thinking about the future books set in Alagaesia.

  • RoseAngel

Probably something along the line of dr. who. Maybe. Either way, it will be awesome, as he is a wonderful author. Kudos to you, CP!!

  • Venatrax

Yes! I can’t wait for another book by CP. He is such an amazing author!

  • naegling

write a sequel to the inheritance series!! i really wish to read another book set in amazing alaegasia….

    • tob2007

Really? It just came out. I
      don’t blame him for wanting
to take a break from the
      series.

      I’m sure he’ll write another
      one soon, so don’t fret.

  • Anonymous

wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. for sure. it’s got to be! haha, kidding. whatever it is, i’m sure it’ll be worth waiting for.

  • Argetlam

I kinda wish he would go back and write a book about Eragon teaching his school and returning to Alaegasia 🙁

    • Elphiebelphie

Eragon leaves Alagaesia FOREVER it says so in the book. I wish that he could return, but he CAN’T. Werecats know these things.

      • anton wihlborg

He CAN return and by the way it werent werecats who foretold his departure it was Angela

        • tob2007

          Of course he CAN
          return, but he won’t.

          • Percy

It wouldn’t be right to return.  Eragon’s supposed to leave, Angela foretold it.  Although, her exact words were “I know not where you will end up, but you will never again stand in Alagaësia”… maybe he returns but never leaves Saphira’s back…

          • Firnin

In another thread we discussed this. We decided that they’ll just change the name. Instead of Alagaesia, it’ll be Alageasia. Two letters switched, but he’s never in Alagaesia again.

      • Ah! But Angela only said that he would leave Alagaesia and never return, not that the next time he left Alagaesia he would never return! So he could leave, return, leave, return… hundreds of times over thousands of years! And then leave, and never return (presumably because he dies…).

        • Or he gets old, and decides the commute is just to much of a killer for him and Saphira

      • Firnin

First, Angela said it. Second, the series makes it clear MANY times that the future isn’t set in stone.

      • the_dark_1

werecats gave eragon information on were 2 find his sword and the heart of hearts. also it said eragon would no longer return when a persons true name changes so does he in retrospect have 2 of changed and their for he is no longer the same person allowing himself to return (I myself really want him to return because I have been reading these books since i was 4 and really want more set in alaegesia ) also it said ERAGON you also for get their were 2 eargons the first 2 make peace with dragons and the one who killed galbatrix  whats to say the prophacy did not mean that one (it is a far chance and everything but who knows i think it could happen)

  • Glaedr

After Inheritance i have been looking for a book that will satisfy me as inheritance did but i can not find any other books i like as much as i like the Inheritance cycle.
I can not wait to get my hands on another one of Christopher’s writes.

    • Anonymous

Have you read A Song of Ice and Fire yet? I’m currently addicted. And partially victimized. It’s a wonderful saga, I totally recommend it. I’m reading the fourth book and it’s completely amazing 😀 If you haven’t, then you should take a look ;]

      • the_dark_1

i have read the entire set. it is amazing (close to inheritance but i prefer eragons story) althogh it is a great series it was and still is being dragged out over tis 7th book and is starting to get tirering

    • Elphiebelphie

Try The chronicles of Narnia. Reallllllllllllllllllllly good. If you like historical fiction/fantasy, I also suggest the King Raven trilogy by Stephen R. Lawhead. AMAZING series.

    • brom-son

have you tried the rangers apprentice books by john flanagan
or the young samurai books by chris bradford
they are nearly as good as the inheretence cycle

      • Halt_O’Carrick

Ranger’s Apprentice is my third favorite series after Lord of the Rings and Inheritance!!!!!!!  gosh I almost thought no one else had heard about it 🙂

        • Kirwan

I love the Ranger’s Apprentice! Unfortunately, I have an unlucky habit of subconciously trying to behave like the characters from the books I’m reading, so whilst and after reading the series, I often find myself trying to move without being seen, climbing A LOT of trees, and wishing that my bow was not in another country.

          • Firnin

Same. I only do that when it’s a series I really like, though. One where I wish I could go live in that world.

        • Have you read the first book in the Brotherband Chronicles? It’s not quite as deep as Flanagan’s first four books but is still quite good, IMHO. Even if it doesn’t mention “Halt Arratay” (literally Halt Halt; he invented the name to mock Morgorath, who probably still doesn’t get the joke 😉 ).

And some of my favorite stories (off the top of my head; in no particular order)  would go something like this: LotR_Book+LotR_Movie+Hobbit+Silmarillion (considered all together, probably my favorite of all), Inheritance, Gammage Cup/Whisper of Glocken, Memento Mori (an album by Flyleaf, and yes, it is both an album and a story, which is why I like it so much), Ranger’s Apprentice, Narnia_Books+Narnia_Movies (I can’t wait for the movie Silver Chair! It’ll be such fun to see Aslan the vacuum blower 😉 Not to mention Eustace the very-valliant), Earthsea, DragonKeeper Chronicles+Chronicles of Chiril, DragonSinger+DragonSong (I took my username from these; I’d better include them 😉 )……

    • tob2007

      Harry Potter
      ‘Nuff Said

    • Percy Jackson and the Olympians/The Heroes of Olympus, The Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Narnia, His Dark Materials, Alex Rider series, Carl Hiassen’s Hoot; Flush; Scat, Silverwing trilogy, The 39 Clues/Cahills vs Vespers, Harry Potter, The Ropemaker. Some of my faves at least (: oh and don’t forget Twilight saga jkjk

      • Firnin

Percy Jackson and Narnia do NOT compete with Inheritance.  Neither does Harry Potter. Those are the only one’s I’m familiar with.

    • Kirwan

The Hunger Games… amazing. Also, I’d recommend the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield, The Dwarves series by Markus Heitz, and, if you happen to speak French, La Quete d’Ewilan series by Pierre Boterro. It’s really good, but unfortunately hasn’t been translated into English.

  • Purple-kitty

Can’t wait 😀 Hope the short story comes out soon!

  • Alexis

I LOVE SIFI!!!!!!!!! Go Christopher!!!!!! I can’t wait!!!!!

  • tecky

    I never really were a Sci-fi fan but I guess I will be soon…

  • a smart guy

I’m really excited about this. Alagaesia, while awesome, is full of fantasy cliches. (No offense) This book has the potential to really establish him as an author by introducing new ideas, instead of borrowing from old standbys. Again, I am so excited about this.

This is great! Hopefully, it won’t take to long to write and then have published. I wonder how he will release it when he does. Will it be an actual publication, an e-book, or will he perhaps publish it in a magazine like Asimov’s or Analog?

    • However many ways he releases it, I hope the list includes “regular book”.

  • The Grey Rider

    Hell yes am I excited!
And that was bloody fast for CP… I wasn’t expecting to hear from him for another two years…at least! 😛

And he’s been playing Skyrim like the rest of the world.
I wonder if he’s noticed any similarities between the IC and said game… XP

Like if you want to see an ‘arrow in the knee’ joke in something of his in the future.

    • The Grey Rider

      Hang on…
      ‘Dark little prelude…’
Maybe us 40k fans are in for a treat, and CP will be doing a novel for Black Library.
‘Horus Heresy’ novel by CP anyone?
      Or maybe an ‘Inquisition’ one?

      • Alpheus

Are you serious? He’s really doing a novel for Black Library? Where’d you hear about this, friend? 🙂

        • The Grey Rider

Just a guess, and a very far-out one at that.
Still, no denying it’d be awesome.

    • Taralen

Am I the only one who noticed there’s a place in Skyrim called High Hrothgar? I FLIPPED when I noticed that.

      • The Grey Rider

        THAT’S what made you flip?!
Not the ancient language of power, the Forsworn, the key plot point of gaining power via dragon souls, a place name that crops up all the time in fantasy settings?

        • Taralen

Well, after the dragon soul and Hrothgar, I wasn’t surprised any more. I wonder if CP has tried to ride any of the dragons, that would awkward for the dragon:P

    • brom-son

they share alot of common names (skyrim and eragon)
      hrothgar
      forsworn
      ect.

      • Hrothgar is older than either; I believe it is from Norse mythology. But I won’t argue with you about Forsworn. 😉

And I named a sword Daert about a month before Inheritance came out. Either I’m telepathic, foresighted, or lucky. 😉

    • derp

About that arrow in the knee joke…
Arya’s longing for Eragon rules over her judgement (which probably won’t happen) and she sails to the east. She finally arrives at the place where the new riders are trained but finds Blodhgarm instead of Eragon training the riders. She then sees an Oromis-style hut and finds Eragon inside.

Arya: Eragon! Get off your lazy butt and go train the riders!
Eragon: I used to train them, then I took an arrow to the knee.
      Arya: *Rolls eyes*

That wouldn’t really make sense, but that would be amusing.

      • When Christopher writes his next Alagaesia book we should ask him to include the “arrow to the knee” line in there =D

  • anton wihlborg

I really hope he gets this story dont quickly, not because im eager to read it but beacuse then he can hopefully get back to Eragon’s Alagaesia.

I know this is completely selfish but i do respect his right to write about whatever he wants. I just can’t get over how the Inheritance ended (still having trouble falling asleep after 2 weeks) and really need some closure to the charachters of Arya and Eragon.

    • Brom Master

I agree with you it seemed tO end leaveing us just hanging their with questions like. Did Eragon sail to where the elves first lived or what word did he use to make the king ” understand” and what about thorn and his rider do they go live with Eragon so I don’t think you sound selfish because I feel that way to

      • Anonymous

He didn’t use any words to make the king “Understand” he used magic without imploying the Ancient Langauge.

        • @imstillhungry95: [email protected]:disqus

And the elves sailed to Alagaesia from over the sea…

    • EternalShade

I agree. The only reason i am sane right now is because he promised they’d see eachother again.

  • Anonymous

awesome! can’t wait for this 🙂 i saw him tweet this lmao! I hope he does not stop writing, he is so talented and i love his stories …
Mike, think you should change this site now, it needs to evolve, it needs to become a CP fansite instead of just inheritance 🙂 just an opinion …

    • The Grey Rider

The site is named for an organisation in CP’s first full-length series…

I think that’d kind of cover everything, because when people see ‘Christopher Paolini’, they’d probably think ‘Eragon’ or ‘Inheritance Cycle’.

Keep the site name the same I say, and just put a seperate part for this to-be-released sci-fi shortseries.

      • michelle

Definitely keep the site name as CP has already said he will be revisiting alagaesisa in future books – yay! 🙂

  • Guest

I love science fiction! never stop writing CP!

  • Hugh Jass

    Gay robots

  • ME

Sweet! I think that science fiction can be awesome when it’s written well. I think he’d probably be good at that kind of writing, too. So this seems good to me!

You know what would be cool? If his scifi book is in Alagaesia!!! But in the future so it has nothing to do with Eragon and the rest of the gang (So CP gets a break from them) but maybe at some point in the book he makes a reference to an old myth in the history of Alagaesia about a young farm boy and a dragon…. That would be so sweet 😀 Sorry yes I got excited, I’m not a big scifi person (sorry CP) but I’m going to read it anyways just because I love him that much 😀 <3

    • Taralen

OMG! That is a cool idea. But Alagaesia wouldn’t be the same without dragons, elves and dwarfs.

      • Anonymous

I know right!? It would suck but yeah it would still be amazing XD

      • Who says that Dragons don’t still exist? SciFi with Dragons and Dwarf Riders, both piloting spaceships, would be totally awesome!

  • Julie Ann Grasso

I would not be shocked if a character named Angela showed up in some obscure moment in this new Sci-Fi novel.

    • Anonymous

If there isn’t, I will be most disappointed!

    • Anonymous

      That would be so cool!!!

  • Anonymous

I hope there are lasers that go Pew…Pew…Pew…

    • Shireman

I hope so too my friend. I hope so too. 🙂

    • The Grey Rider

Unless they’re Flashlights. *shudder at the sheer ineffectiveness*

      • Julie Ann Grasso

Bother! I’ve left my new torch in Narnia!

        • The Grey Rider

          40k reference.
Worst weapon in said game is the standard-issue lasgun.
Thus, they’re known derisively as ‘Flashlights’.

          • Julie Ann Grasso

I was rejecting your 40k reference and substituting my own 😉
