Two Weeks…

The sound of war draws near! Rejoice, Inheritance fans: the fourth and final book will officially release in two weeks. We know you’ll be raiding the book stores on November 8th to get your hands on the book — but the true question is: Which character will you be rooting for the most? Are you on Eragon’s side or are you hoping for victory for Murtagh?

  • inheritance<3

omigosh, the anticipation is gonna kill me!!

  • Saerina

I kind of want Murtagh to win because he is the in the dark hero that doesn’t get a chance to show it  :]

  • Arya<3

10 days! I think that deserves its own post.

  • The Green dragon

Just sent in a theory hope its good enough to be put in the show. and hopw the contest comes in soon. and also personally im going for a revival of Brom and him coming back and killing Galby.

  • Kawyn S

OK people its no point speculating now, obviously y’all gonna have yo nose buried in the buried in like 9-10 days. So lets discuss something else. What is it that turns you off the most?

    • bigmike

people trying to change the subject. (hint, hint)

      • Kawyn S

        haha i hate you 🙂

        • wehatebarney

we hate you (and big purple dinosaurs) too. we hate you, you hate us, with a great big scream and bomb from us to you, won’t you say you hate us too?

          • THEJOKER

            dirtbag

          • THEJOKER

not the purple dino thing, the song

          • Kawyn S

seriously y’all need to relax. go take a pill of the chill variety.
and listen to  Astronomia – Tony Iggy
            and have an eargasm 🙂

          • bigmike

I prefer to chase barnie up a tree. Then if you bring the matches ill bring the gas and we can blow up his purple……… nevermind.lol

        • bigmike

          I was joking. jeeze, chill.  C :

  • Gizmo

As long as the book does not end with galby torchering Eragon while Eragon cries out to Murtag, who then changes his real name, picks up Galby and throws him down a bottomless pit killing himself in the prosess then I will be happy.

    • THEJOKER

No but Eragon should turn to the Dark Side and become the new Dark Lord with Murtagh and Arya at his side.

      • bigmike

Boring and so predictable. We need something more original like…… The views of the two traders in Eragon were right and the Varden really were after the land of the Empire and that the Urgals are really lepercons on growth hormones and they mistake Galbi for a troll.lol

    • GregB

A little thing like being thrown into a bottomless pit woulden’t be enough to kill a normal rider let alone Galbatorix so I think your officially guaranteed to be satisfied with the book. 🙂

  • THEJOKER

    YES I AM INSANE!!!!!!!

    • Arya<3

      ya  we no

    • bigmike

Crazy insane or insane crazy? When I say who say you say crazy. 🙂

  • a smart guy

Ten days!!!!! I think I am going to have a heart attack.

    • THEJOKER

Here I’ll help you. WHY SO SERIOUS? WHY SO SERIOUS? WHY SO SERIOUS? ~suddenly a gunshot sounds in the night… HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • The Green dragon

I dont know what to post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bigmike

It’s not easy to juggle a pregnant wife and a troubled child, but somehow I managed to fit in eight hours of TV a day. Homer Simpson

  • Vlatkovichka

I want Eragon to be a wild boy in this one! Hot, ass-kickin’ guy! Kinda tired of CP trying to make that out of Roran…

    • GUEST

Exactly, I think the inclusion of Roran in the series was a big mistake. WHO WANTS TO READ ABOUT SOME LOSER WHO CAN’T EVEN USE MAGIC.(fail) He is ugly and annoying and in my opinion she should find out about her father being alive and shank roran and run off to be with her papa. We could have some chapters from HER point of view instead of that failure Rorans. (HES SO GREAT HE SLEW 200 MEN) OH who cares? Eragon, and Arya could each slay thousands. Also, can we ditch the Nasuada chapters? They’re depressing and dull…DUTY DUTY DUTY!!! what happened to fantasy people? book one was the best. It was just from Eragon’s perspective

      • Fail

What is wrong with you? Eragon and Arya can slay thousands: he is a Dragon Rider, Arya is an Elf and they can both use magic! Roran is just a man. I’m all for more Eragon chapters, but are you mentally unfit? Why would Katrina shank Roran if she found out Sloan is alive when Roran doesn’t even know he is? And if you think Roran is a failure, what is so great and successful about Katrina that you want her perspective?

      • guest

you have mental issues. honestly you shouldnt even bother with reading the series if your gonna hate half of the book! you dont understand that thats the GREAT thing about roran, he’s just a normal man. he’s there to prove that you don’t need magic to do things.

        • hoke

yeah man you must have mental problems or something man..

  • Anonymous

I don’t really have anything important to say so… I like cheese.

    • THEJOKER

I LOVE CHEESE, GO DEMENTOIDS! (see my earlier ‘Harry Potter’ comments for that last detail.)

      • Conbon

GO MENTOS! oh wait wrong convo lol

  • The Green dragon

I went like all the way back in Shurtugal pages and found the first post and a pic I Mike! I laughed at that a lot, and it was cool to see the first post!

    • I see no picture… DARN YOU!!

      • The Green dragon

Ha well it’s back a bunch of pages and it’s of his twentyith birthday:)

    • Becky L

i went back, saw a pic of bob, chris paolini and mike at maybe 16? it was a couple pages after his ‘happy 16 birthday’ post. mind blown.

  • Razorshadeslayer

i cant wait. its been a LOT of years of waiting for this, i hope it will be worth the wait

  • YourLiver

    I’m rooting for… Oromi- Crap. Er… Saphira!

  • Belgarion

They never offered “Eragon and Murtagh team up to defeat Galby”, now did they?  In my opinion, Murtagh will probably that one traitor who repents in the end and saves the day by basically committing suicide, like Luke in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

    • Lil Uhura

Yup, Murtagh and Thorn are gonna pull a Vader!!

    • Conbon

way to give away the end of the percy jackson series asshole

  • Eragon4eva

    ERAGON!!!! 😉 SOOO SEXY!!!

    • Belgarion

      Come again?

    • The Green dragon

hope ur a gurl and refering to that crap they call a movie and person who plays eragon.

  • Emeric

    Death to Eragon,
    GO TEAM GALBY!!

    • Dragonrider

      Um, ok?

    • Belgarion

      Eff.

    • bigmike

      And may I ask “why?”

    • THEJOKER

      WWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ANOTHER CRAZY WITH MY POINT OF VIEW!!!!

  • stroodle910

I have a theory about Undbitr as well! I am e-mailing it to them (or leaving it as a voicemail)

  • Jschoey17

On his journey to find the VOS, Erago will make a major discovery of Brom’s lost sword Undbitr, amd take up his Inheritance. Therefore changing his fighting style slightly so he is able to fight with two swords. (My highly improbable theory)

    • Arrétay

That’d be flippin’ awesome! He’d kick butt!

      • bigmike

Or get it kicked. Changing from single sword to doulbe sword fighting is hard as heck. If you learn single hand, it is almost impossible to get used to using doulbe hand. Trust me, Im trying to learn double hand arnis and i keep slipping back into single hand.

  • atra esterni ono thelduin

Has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

    • stroodle910

      …what?

    • Cris

      Haha nice XD

    • The Green dragon

      what?

    • Matt S

      You lost me there….

    • Razorshadeslayer

      umm wtf

    • bigmike

Im 90% sure that it is a puzzle with a hidden message, but it is slipping my grasp.

    • Drew

      trolololo

  • Leon Trotsky Trout

Why do we always assume Thorn is such a disposable character? Everybody (at least on the first page cuz I got lazy and didn’t read the rest) keeps saying “thorn will die for sure.” like he’s just some piece of trash that Murtagh rides around on. I’d like to learn more about him in this last book. Maybe he doesn’t have to be some senseless brute. Maybe he’s vastly intelligent and wildly charismatic and dignified. He is a dragon after all. He could easily be the ying to every ounce of Murtagh’s yang. (poor word choice, I know, but you get the picture)
I think I would be a little put-off if Thorn remained an idle servant to Galby-saurus-rex until his death. No, I think there is so much more to him.
Anyway, I guess I’ll just wait and see.

    • Leon Trotsky Trout

that’s weird, I could swear I typed “please don’t bite my head off” between those

      • Anonymous

Nobody was biting your head off.

      • bigmike

Nope, you put it in a way that I can actully pretend to misread it and see ( please bite my head off)

    • Melodia

No I think a lot of people are Murtagh+ Thorn fans myself included but I agree with the rest, I’d like to see a chapter in his point of view in this book.

    • hoke

i dont know. i feel so bad for thorn though. i wonder how his tail is going to affect the book? i definitely hope he goes free though

    • Spirit Orb

I agree, and we know we’re gonna get more chapters from Saphira’s point of view so maybe we’ll see another side to him in one of those 🙂

    • Belgarion

He is an eejit dragon from The House of the Scorpion…

    • Arrétay

I really hope Thorn is fine. He and Murtagh, I think, will be OK. I really hope so; they are amazing. I’d love to see a chapter through Thorn and Murtagh’s eyes as well. It’d be cool to see what they’re thinking and feeling.

    • bigmike

      Chomp.  🙂

  • Bromsson

I said in one of my earlier posts that Tenga will be the one to shed light on the location of the Rock of Kuthian(VoS). I still believe that he will play an integral part in that discovery, but I forgot about one other key group of people that may also play a small role. In Brisingr, it was said that the writer of the book, Domia abr Wyrda, was a monk belonging to a monastery dedicated to recording all of the facts of history. I can see Eragon making the journey to Kuasta, where they are located, to verify whatever he finds out. Seeing as Brom lived in Kuasta before his dragon hatched for him, and since Kuasta hasn’t really been visited yet at this point, I can see Eragon wanting to make the trip.

Also, there has been much speculation about who, or more importantly “what”, Angela is. She seems to have an extensive knowledge of the ancient language, always pops up in places of importance, has a werecat for a companion, and is said to be much older than she appears. She is clearly not a dwarf, urgal, shade, spirit, ordinary human, or elf for obvious reasons.  Nor would I consider her a superior magician, simply because of the age issue. That leaves two options that we know of: either a human/elf hybrid, or the Grey Folk.

I really don’t think she’s a human/elf hybrid, even though she does speak in a very round-about way like the elves. She shares no physical characteristics with the elves, and while she does have a vast knowledge of the ancient language, she seems to lack the ability to use most/all forms of magic; instead she relies on the use of plants and other unconventional items. That points to her being one of the Grey Folk. There’s not a lot known about them at this point, except that they are the ones that made the ancient language what it is. They used their own will to bind magic to the ancient language, a process that left them a shell compared to what they once were. This is why Angela seems to know so much about the ancient language, yet finds herself incapable of really using magic.

    • bigmike

Where did it say that Brom lived in Kuasta? I must have missed it or something, but I’ve never seen it mentioned before.

      • Bromsson

Whenever Eragon visited Ellesmera for the last time, and found out that Brom was actually his father. Oromis talked about how when Brom first became his apprentice, he had been from Kuasta, and practiced a lot of strange customs and superstitions that many of the other students made fun of.

        • YourLiver

Makes me want to walk into every room and knock on the side of the door, just to confuse people and to see if anyone recognizes it. Because, you know, confusing people is fun!

          • bigmike

Its not fun, Its AWESOMELY FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  🙂 I love making the freshmen think Im crazy then let them in on the act the next year.lol

        • bigmike

          thx

    • Joe-joe2442

actually that is a really really good connection, i didnt even think of that. I have pondered the grey folk a lot but i always just assumed that angela was an elf that has altered her appearance much like arya did when she met up with eragon in the empire in brisingr. But the grey folk theory is a very clever idea.

    • LindaJones

Actually I believe Christopher Paolini said in an interview that Half-elves can change their physical characteristics. He also said that they are very good at blending with the race they choose to live amongst. What you say about the Grey Folk makes sense, and I think you are probably right, but it is still plausible that she is a Half-elf.

    • makenna52

I think the Grey Folk theory is very plausible. Angela being a half-elf is not impossible either. Except that she’s too amazingly rude to be part-elf. 🙂

  • Coasterking

this is for mike lauren chris or bob when is the contest with
random buzzers coming you guys will be recording any day now and there
has been no contest. also what is your plan to catch up on the big 20s you are like behind 2

  • Mcase19

my god, its like waiting for super christmas!

    • Sallystar6of7

always winter and never christmas, but now the snow is melting.

      • bigmike

Im guessing that you are south of equator? Or am I mistaking?

        • Sallystar6of7

          nope, narnia fan!

          • bigmike

Ok. I prob mis read it. But I hope that the last battle scene wont happen in the end. You Know? It would be a disappointment.

    • Arrétay

      But, in my opinion, better.

  • Kawyn S

ok dont start telling me what i forgot now.

  • Brisingrblade

haha im getting it on nov. 4th

    • Sallystar6of7

      HOW???????????????????

  • Tyler Whitlock

Super eager! I find it increasingly unsatisfying to continue to theorize. I just want to read the book. I hope that Amazon.com ships early, and, on the off chance that I get really lucky, I get the novel a day before (it’s happened to me once).

    • Anonymous

I hoped the same thing about amazon shipping early but they dont.  If you want it on the day it comes out you have to pay for the one day shipping.  And every time i order something online its about three days late no matter what.

  • For the last week or so can we have a countdown in Days : Hours : Minutes : Seconds? that would be AWESOME!

    • guest

they actually have that on alagaesia.com if you want

      • bigmike

You dare put a link to a rival fan site! the audacity!lol

        • guest

…it’s not a rival one actually, it’s the one paolini made himself …

          • bigmike

            AH. kk

  • If this is how much speculation is going on with two weeks left, just imagine when there’s one day left.

    • hoke

im checking shurtugal at least every hour on monday. if not more

    • bigmike

Im actully going to force myself to stay off of this site until I get done with the book to avoid accidently seeing something that will spoil the ending for me.

  • roran

I don’t like the idea of Roran becoming the human king after the war. I think he’ll just go back to his farm and chill with Katrina. That’s something that always made his character captivating; at his heart, in spite of all his power and connections, he’s just a farmer with a chick. I’d be kind of disappointed if he ended up king.

    • Brisingrblade

yeah, at his marriage he promised her a home and a farm in Carvahall, plus i dont think CP would do that

      • Arrétay

Yeah, that’s what I was about to point out. He promised Katrina they were going back to Carvahall to start anew. He will stay true to that.

  • Brisingrblade

i believe that kuthian was an ancient rider or dragon, and that in the vos is an ancient storing place of eldunari

    • Zach

Idk that seems a little too obvious on the vos theory, the Kuthian theory is cool but if the vos just has eldunari…   a little too predictable.  I want something that will throw me off guard.  I really hope CP adds a creative twist the vos

      • bigmike

I cant really think of any good theories for the vault of souls. what ever CP will do is prob way better then anything I can come up with.lol

  • James Picard

One thing I’ve noticed with the Rock of Kuthian theoris going around is this: If Kuthian IS the name of one of the thirteen dragons, how can Eragon, Saphira, and Solembum remember the name?  The Banishing of the Names made it so that no one could rememeber them  Therefore, this theory is either invalid, or there is some sort of strange phenomanon surronding the three.

    • Brisingrblade

exactly i said the same thing a few comments down

      • Brisingrblade

oops i mean in another article…..

    • Bromsson

If you’re implying that the Rock of Kuthian is an eldunari of one of the Forsworn’s dragon, I would have to disagree with you. There’s no way that a single eldunari of one dragon would be power enough to help Eragon accomplish anything, even if it were from an ancient dragon rather than one of the Forsworn’s. We don’t know how many eldunari Galbatorix actually has, but I’m sure it’s a more substantial than 1.

If, however, you’re implying that one of the Forsworn’s dragon was named after the location, or vice versa, then the rules are different. People will still be able to speak of the place, because the name is specific to the place, and not to the Forsworn’s dragon. People will be able to remember the name “the Rock of Kuthian”, but not that it’s associated with a Forsworn’s dragon.

    • GuyWhoKnows

Well, if the Rock of Kuthian was given its name before the banishment, the rock wouldn’t lose its name. Its like this, say one of the dragon’s names was Larry. When larry lost his name, everyone named larry didnt lose their name, because the banishment only effected Larry the dragon. Thats why they can remember it, but are unable to put it to one of the dragons.

      • Zach

But they wouldnt ever realize kuthian was a name of the dragon, it could be the name of the rider though because as I remember, it was just the dragons whose name was banished.

      • Bromsson

That’s exactly what I said in the post beneath yours

    • bigmike

What if it is as simple as that they dont know it is the name of the dragon, therefor not linking the two together so the banishing doesnt take effect.

  • Brisingrblade

ok, i heard a comment a while back that really got me thinking. does anyone know what brom’s sword, undbitr, means? just curious

    • Arya<3

he’ll reveal it in Inheritance, but if you search up roots you can find out.

    • Matt S

CP has said in an interview that he basis most of the Ancient Language off of Old Norse. Just did a lil bit of research on Old Norse translations and Undbitr literally translates to “wound biting”.
      Source: http://www.yorku.ca/inpar/language/English-Old_Norse.pdf

  • Brisingrblade

he is one of the four riders we even see in the series, plus hes an improtant character

  • Anonymous

i wonder if theres gonna be some sort of 10 day count down, that would be rather cool!!!! any ideas peeps at wat it could be???

  • Gizmo

Can someone explain why Murtagh so much. I personaly had no opinion one way or the other in Eragon and Eldest onwards I just think that he is a jealous, selfish douche.

    • Gizmo

Sorry keyboard ran out of batteries and the some of the keys did not work. The question is why do people like him 🙂

      • He’s been mistreated all his life and though I know some of his actions are things that I don’t usually like, but his life has been messed up since before his birth. His father is Morzan, ’nuff said there. His mother isn’t allowed to see him. Unlike with Eragon she wasn’t able to save him and he grew up in Uru’Baen with the king right there, who by the way plans to make him his servant whether he likes it or not. His only friend is killed while he escapes. Where ever he goes he is hunted by the Empire. He has the shame of knowing his father was a brutal killer. When he finally meets his half brother (not knowing at the time) he is forced to go to the Varden where he is despised because of Morzan. Finally when he begins to be accepted, he is kidnapped and forced against his will to serve Galbatorix. When he meets the only person who understands him (Thorn) he too is set against his will, from birth. He now has to kill those he once fought with. The only way he can ever be set free is to either die or (slim chance) survive the death of Galbatorix. In my opinion that is a tragic life.

        • Brisingrblade

          people like an underdog

      • Kaylee

I, personally, love him. He is MINE! The reason is because, despite the father he had, and then living with Galby, he turned out to actually be a well rounded person. It’s Galby’s madness that make him… how do I say this?… angry, which in turn makes him act resentfully. Wouldn’t you if you had been abused, physically and mentally, since childhood? But to each their own, I guess.

        • Zach

I also like him.  Read the parts in “Eragon” when he and eragon are traveling to the varden, or read how close he and eragon are when eragon finds out about murtaghs “death”.  Also, murtagh was forced to serve galby, eragon said himself that their positions could have been switched if selena decided (for lack of a better word) to  save murtagh in stead of eragon.  I think its kinda pity, I know thats the way I feel about him. I personally hope he turns cool cuz his life has been so awful and it would be nice to see him happy and succeed, I dont think it said that he ever smiled in the books.

  • Brisingrblade

just trying to end the argument

  • Fp

Boy that post was ripe with spelling errors.  Sorry about that 😛  Like I said, I don’t write book because I know I would suck at it hehe.

  • Fp

    What’s fine?

  • Brisingrblade

p.s. I really want to root for murtagh, but i just cant see the varden, or the dwarves especially, forgiving him for killing Hrothgar and all, plus galby did not order him to do it, so he must have a lot of hate in him. i find it really sad.
    sorry murtagh fans.

    • Sometimes I wonder if he had another reason for killing Hrothgar. It’s a slim chance but who knows? The only thing I really blame him for is not agreeing to be killed. Of course it’s his right but I find it a little selfish to put your own life above thousands others.

      • Brisingrblade

the problem is, alot of people will hate him if he lets him live

      • bigmike

would you have just let yourself be killed if you had been in his possition? after fighting all your life to stay alive, just lay down and let someone cut your head off? Really?

        • True, I know why he did it. But I don’t know, I’m 50-50 on this matter.

    • palancargirl

i dont really know how i feel about murtagh. i really liked him in eragon and then when he killed hrothgar in eldest i just about died. i personally think murtagh is going to die but that he is gonna die really heroicly…. like defying galby or saving eragon

    • LindaJones

How do we know that he wasn’t ordered to do it? Just wondering.

  • Brisingrblade

ok, first, i dont understand the theory that galby has a daughter. Why would anyone so evil manage it? so i think the woman and girl that angela talked to were not from alageasia, explaining her strange accent, so i think that once they find where the vos is and she and/or her young friend will guide him out of alagaesia. and 2nd, the fact that arya is the green rider really appeals to me. Since Saphira is destined to mate with the green dragon, wouldnt it be an epic double romance with eragon and arya as well? Not to mention the fact that her magic is green and they are both Shadeslayers. i believe that Tenga will have the necessary info to lead to the vos, and that Angela and possibly elva will accompany him on his jouney to find it. and 3rd, i believe it might be possible for the menoa tree to steal eragon’s true name, she is an immensely powerful mind, and she said her payment would come later, and would his true name not give it ultimate power over him? And on the topic of the new rider’s sword, the old sword that that old elf has would not suit her, plus the brightsteel eragon brought back for rhunon was enough for several swords, at least she said as much in brisingr. Thanks for reading, i hope i have stimulated your minds! Se onr sverdar sitja hvass!

    • bigmike

controling someones mind. And he has slaves (probably) and everyone knows what the old kings used to do with their slaves……. So…. accidents happen. I was one.

  • Bromsson

First, Murtagh will die. I agree with the many people that have previously said that he is not necessarily “evil”. He did do as best as he could, given the circumstances. But the fact remains that the majority of the Varden, dwarves, and elves would simply be unable to trust him and allow him to live. However, I do see him trying to redeem himself in some small way. As it has been said, he will play a bigger role in the last book, so he will not die in the very beginning trying to steal the egg, or some other outrageous theory. Ultimately, he will help Eragon to defeat Galbatorix, and will be killed in the process.

Second, Arya will become the green dragon rider. Ignoring the fact that her magic is green, or that Eragon has yet to have is “epic romance”, it makes sense from a timeline perspective. The new dragon rider will need to be advanced in the ways of magic and swordplay in order to be a threat to the Empire. Some may argue that someone else could become the new rider, and the book will simply skip ahead a few years, giving the new rider time to become more of a threat. But this doesn’t make sense, because while the new rider is learning, the war will be continuing around them. It doesn’t make sense that the war would be allowed to drag on simply to train the new rider; Galbatorix wouldn’t allow it. Arya on the other hand has already mastered magic and swordplay. All that will be left for her to learn are the few secrets known only to the riders, as well as the education of the new dragon.

Elain will probably die from child birth complications. Either Nasuada or Islanzadi will most likely die, or both. Most likely Nasuada, which will allow Roran to eventually assume the leader role of the Varden. Orrin can’t be king, simply because he will be unable to have the entire empire support him after Galbatorix is overthrown. Roran on the otherhand has the capacity to inspire people to follow him. There has to be some “big” deaths in the new book, and I just can’t see Nasuada prevailing.

Lastly, I believe that Tenga, Angela’s former teacher, will be the one to provide the location of the Rock of Kuthian(VoS). In the brief encounter in Brisingr, he was in possession of 6 or 7 books containing the true names of places and things. The Rock of Kuthian is probably contained within one of those lists. Also, it seems likely that Solenbum will have had to know about the VoS in order to tell Eragon about it. It seems likely that he would have learned about it while Angela learned from Tenga.

No matter what happens, I have truly enjoyed this series, and am sad to see it end.

    • You’re reading my mind over here, haha.

    • Matt S

Well said. I agree with it all.

    • Zach

Love the roran to varden leader theory. and definitely agree with the last sentance

  • Jessicamaness2020

Let’s hope that Saphira and Eragon defeat Galbatorix, Murtagh and Thorn change their true names fight for the varden (and fly off into the sunset with Nasuada), Vanir is the elf death, Arya is the green rider,Elva gets death by spikes, and Roran becomes king of Alagaesia. WOOOOOOT I can’t wait for the last booooooook!!!!!!!!! (Although I must confess that I am a bit sad at the conclusion of another great series.)

    • I think that the elf death with be Islanzadi. It would make sense; they only race not to have a major inheritance is the elven race. Arya will turn down the thrown, and then become the next Dragon Rider

      • Lil Uhura

It can’t be Islanzadi as she’s mentioned in the present tense in Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia which takes place After the events in book 4.  And CP mentioned that we would see an Elven funeral in book 4, not necessarily that an elf would die (I believe that the funeral that we will read about will be Oromis’ as he just died).

        • Brisingrblade

          nice. i agree

        • Good point. I had forgotten about that. You’re probably right on both that and Oromis being the one being buried

        • bigmike

          Or Gleadr’s.

      • atra esterni ono thelduin

Urgals haven’t had a major inheritance. Don’t be so quick to dispel them as a “major race.” Have you learnt nothing at all?

  • AryaRose

I have to say that above all, I’m rooting for Eragon and Saphira.  I absolutely want Murtagh to get some redemption but that’s only a secondary thing for me.  Can’t wait!!! XD XD XD

    • Kingkiller2k11

      i hear ya
though in my opinion it would be good if eragon defeated murtagh and thorn and forced they swore fealty to hithem both.
this would even out the chances for the varden greatly

  • Hotaru16

I am only interested in what happens to Murtagh. I so hope he survives… ;______; *extreme fangirl*

    • Murtaghhater 2k11

      murtagh must crash and burn

      • Zach

        do not agree at all

        Sorry

Murtagh seems like that underdog ba character that everyseries needs.

    • My mom thinks I’m cool

I think Murtagh will experience death by spikes.

      • And then just for fun, Eragon will find a way to bring him back to life, and do it again as punishment for Hrothgar’s death

  • Kawyn S

what the heck happens to elain and her baby?!?!?! i hope they will be okay!!!!!!

    • gabs345

god point! i dont remember him ever saying if her baby was okay but then i forgot about it…

      • Sallystar6of7

she hasnt had it yet, she was late i think.

    • Chretienne

I think that either baby or Elain will die. Because so many people have said that Elain is pretty bad shape right now (Horst, Katrina, that midwife/doctor of Carnvahall, Bridgett, Birgit.. I don’t remember her name, but you know who I mean?), so I will be really surprised if they both live.

      • Sallystar6of7

        birgit.

        • Sallystar6of7

oops i meant gertrude!!!!! i am just bad with names today!

      • snowlight silent night

if elain is still with the varden then they have anglea and serval magic users that could help if gertrude cant. i bet even eragon and saphira would lend their help if needed.

    • Kingkiller2k11

she will probably die giving birth which will cause horst to fight against the empire even harder than roran and he will become a senior officer with the varden

  • torriieeyy

Does anyone else think Elva could be the Green rider?
When Eragon is training with Oromis and discussing Elva’s fate, the white raven (can’t remember his name) screechs ‘Wryda’.

            No problem at all! 🙂

          • Its a secret

just continuing the chain of replies, dont mind me

    • Sallystar6of7

he says that all the time.

    • atra esterni ono thelduin

theres no disputing elva’s wyrd will be an interesting and important one in shaping alegaesia, which is why blagden was so drawn to yell wyrda; assuming it wasnt him just being generally craazy.

but just because she has an interesting future doesnt mean she’ll be a rider. look at jeod, Orik, Angela, the list goes on

  • swordcollector

why isnt anybody making replicas of the riders’ swords at all? they are described in enough detail it would be a money maker easily.

    • The Green dragon

i think some people are making them you just have to search for them.

    • Anonymous

      I want Brisingr :3

    • I believe, but am not totally sure…that 20th Century Fox owns the copyright on many of the sword designs in Eragon.

      Not sure which designs…

    • One day if I become rich, I am gonna go hunt down the best blacksmith known to mankind and ask them to forge me a green Rider’s sword (my color choice may have changed by then, but either way I’d want this to be a beautiful sword).

  • Jjerzeybrown

i see alot of comments saying “something something too obvious” all three books are ripe with fore-shadowing obvious is the norm was anybody surprised when murtagh re-appeared or when orik was crowned? roran’s flight across alagesia was a bit of a surprise but even eragon finding sloan was inevitable.  cp is a terrific writer and this is by far my second favorite series(the first being the dark tower) but full of twists, not really. he doesn’t need big twists when its all newish ground, he writes in a way that makes you care about the characters that very few writers can accomplish and because i do give a crap about them i turn the page to find out what happens next. its refered to as character driven story telling and i wish more writers myself include could figure out what our young freind cp did so naturally

    • Fp

Honestly, while I like the books, CP does a really poor job at the character driven story compared to others.  You may see it differently, but the vast majority tend to hold differently to his development of characters.  Because of this it makes the plot holes all the more glaring.  It;s not just that his storyline is predictable, his storyline is taken out of other books and movies practically verbatim.  When everything becomes predictable you LOSE the sense of danger for the characters you create.  Everyone expects ceretain characters to be safe.  Most people don;t like expecting that.  This is why I could not stand CP coming out with the other book that takes place after the events in Inheritance.  He atumatically removed the danger posed to Eragon and Saphira by telling his audience that they make it through in the end.

This is utterly foolish.  He sold out to create more hype and money for his series rather than keep his lips tightly shut to provide an unexpected and tense story.  When predictability takes place it does not matter how good your characters are.  You need to put them in legitimate danger and make your audience wonder if they will make it out alright.  If you can;t make your audience afraid for the life of your main character, then you have a serious flaw in a story like this.

      • Baconboy753

I disagree completely, because when i reread books i enjoy them just as much if not more then the first time. I know what will happen, and when but i still love my books. Plus if you already like the books he is clearly not doing it wrong.

        • Fp

Perhaps from your point of view you may enjoy it.  However, that doesn’t mean everyone likes it that way.  Besides, We aren’t talking about rereading books.  I am referring to the first time you read a book.  In a fantasy story like this there should be some fear for the main characters lives.  You don’t get that in these books.  The enjoyment of rereading books comes more from the nostalgia of the first time you read it whether you realize it or not.  I respect your opinion to still enjoy a book despite there is no reason to worry for the characters, I just find it’s not as good that way.  Also just because I enjoy the books doesn’t mean he isn’t doing some things wrong.  No work every really reaches perfection.  I can enjoy something and still wish it could be better.  That’s kind of a poor argument.

          • Anonymous

I know what you mean. I really love the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series but there was a lot of mistakes in there. A lot of stuff could have been better but that doesn’t mean that I have to dislike the book. I still really enjoyed the book.

          • Fp

Thanks.  Was feeling a bit out numbered in explaining my point 😛  I actually have never read the Percy Jackson series.  My nephews are really into them.  Might need to check them out at some point.  Would an adult find any entertainment value out of them do you think?

        • Anonymous

Alright guys I didn’t mean to start a big fight here.

      • Anonymous

Christopher has written an amazing story. Now if you don’t like them that’s your opinion and I won’t tell you it’s wrong.
But I have one question- If the books are so bad why are you commenting on a fan site? I don’t mean to be rude, it’s just everyone here is a fan of the books.
If I hated Harry Potter (which I don’t btw, I love those books) I wouldn’t go on to a fan site and rant about it would I? That would be just stupid because I would be insulting books that J.K. Rowling put years of hard work into on a site where people appreciated her books. Why are you even on the fan site if it’s “utterly foolish” and Christopher has done a  “poor job”. Swordcollector was simply saying that he enjoyed the books. Why did you have to try and “burst his bubble?”
So why are you complaining you don’t like the Inheritance books here? All you’re doing is making fans (like me) upset. If you don’t have something nice to say don’t say it here please.

        • Fp

          Aliannecoope,

While I do not mean to be rude it appears you only glanced through my comment.  The first words in my comment were, “Honestly, while I like the books, CP does a really poor job at the character driven story compared to others.”

Last time I checked I can enjoy something and still wish it were better in certain areas.  I like the books because they do have a lot of potential in them.  It disappointments me when that potential gets missed.  Just because I don’t think these are the best books ever doesn’t mean I still don’t enjoy them.  Sorry if my negative views of the works make you all upset, but the simple fact is it has it’s flaws.

What puzzles me is why everyone seems to get upset suddenly whenever something negative is mentioned about the books.  Would you rather I discuss what I like about the books?

I enjoy CPs use of magic.  I enjoy parts of the books that focus on this element and find myself wishing there was more of it.  I enjoy Roran.  He is one of the few characters that I actually like pretty much the whole way through the books.  I have been really happy to see his part grow as the story progresses.  I enjoy CPs passion to create his world.  Sometimes I think he goes into to much detail describing it and does more telling rather than showing, but his passion for his world comes across pretty clearly, and I have a lot of respect for that.

          • Anonymous

Nono that’s not what I mean! You 100% have the right to make your point and say what you don’t like. I just upsetted me because swordcollector just said what he like and your answer seem like you were just telling him off (I think I just read it wrong because I’ve had a million things to do today and am a bit stressed)
I didn’t mean to start a fight, and I hope all can be forgiven:)
I think the reason fans like myself get so upset is because we have been “die-hard” fans for so long waiting for this book to come out that we get a little defensive about it lol
I love Eragon, yes it has flaws but every book does. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding 🙂

          • Anonymous

            *it upset me

          • Brisingrblade

well fp, if you like the books, you dont have to rant about it on fan sites, and its just plain annoying to everyone who is looking for a good discussion on the books

          • Fp

Since when did good discussion mean you couldn’t discus the pros as well as the cons?  I see your point though.  Mentioning things I don’t like about the books doesn’t go over well here and I was foolish for mentioning it.

          • Brisingrblade

            yeah its fine

        • Anonymous

And just a question. When was the last time you published a book? If you know so much better than Christopher go write a book yourself.
I’d be happy to read it 🙂

          • Fp

You see, I have a problem when people make that argument.  I don’t mean to go off on you, but that is a pointless argument to make. You don;t need to be really skilled at something to know it is bad.  Just because I know a bad singer when I sing one does not mean I am a good singer.  Just because I know a bad film when I see one doesn’t mean I can director on the level of Spielberg.  I don’t write books because I know I wouldn’t be good at it 🙂  That doesn’t mean I can express an element in a work that I dislike.

Sorry for going off on that tangent. I just really dislike it when someone makes that argument because it does’t really say anything.

          • Anonymous

Don’t mean to be rude xD Just saying

          • Fp

I know you didn’t mean to be rude it just doesn’t lead to anything.  It puzzles me when people try and make that argument.  It’s like putting a Picasso work and a third year are degree students work side by side and asking which is better.  When the individual picks the Picasso you can’t just say, “How can you say this other work isn’t better?  Could you do better than it?”  Do you see what I mean?

          • Anonymous

            I see your point

        • Brisingrblade

          i agree with alianne

          • Anonymous

Thanks Brisingrblade. I think it was just a misunderstanding though.

          • Fp

Glad you realized that.  Just wish people would jump on others so quick when they express something they don’t enjoy about the series.  Thanks for taking the time to understand what I was saying.

          • Anonymous

You’re welcome. I didn’t mean to jump on you. I think I just read it the wrong way.

          • Fp

I could of done better on being clearer quicker too though.  Lets just agree we both could of been paying better attention 🙂

      • James Picard

Wait, how does this make him a poor charecter writer?  Yes, we know Eragon, Saphira, and Glaedr come out intact (by that, I mean they survive, although we could end up seeing.some sort of weird resurection thing, or we could have one of them dismembered.) That doesn’t mean that the charecters arn’t compelling.  That just means that things we most likely could’ve figured out anyway are resolved.  In almost all fantasy novels, the protaganists survive.  So by your argument, all fantasy novels have little drama.  And this also implies that if you’ve read the Lord of the Rings series, and you go to see the movies, that they are undramatic as well.  Now, I come back to my first question: How does predictability make the charecters poor?  I’m not trying to be rude or mean, I’m merely presenting a counter-argument.  Actually, I’m more interested in seeing how YOU will refute ME.  I find this debate to imensely entertaining.  Also, I do not say I want to be proven wrong merely because I know I can’t the truth is, I find it very likely you will find something that makes me look foolish.  I just want to see what that argument is.

        • Fp

First off I must confess that this issue does come down to a matter of preference.  However, I really wish you wold of read this conversation the whole way through.  I don’t think your Lord of the RIngs with the movies argument holds much water for the simple fact that I am talking about the first read through.  The movies weren’t about creating suspense, they were about bringing a beloved classic book series to life.  Honestly, I’m not really sure the point you are trying to make here.  Anyone who reads Tolkiens books for the first time without knowing the story feels a sense of danger and urgency, those who watched the movies before reading the books felt the exact same way.

I understand where you are coming form in saying that we could of likely assumed that Eragon and Saphira make it out of the fray fine and dandy.  However, that would of been based simply out of what we were used to, and out of our hope for their.  CP confirmed before the end of his story that everything turns out like we hope for Eragon and Saphira.  I’m not the only one who is a little bit let down by that.  Before then it was simply what we expected to have happen.  There is a huge difference between expecting and knowing.  I honestly believe CPs characters could be so much better if we were given that feeling of danger for their very lives.  I think I have wrongly stated my point so far, it is not about the fact that CPs storytelling is bad (Which I don’t believe it is), but I think these elements would simply make it better.  I don;t think there is anything wrong with wanting something  I enjoy to improve and be even better.

Also, if we must get into the issue of the characters not being that great, Eragon is honestly a rather poor protagonist for me personally as the reader.  I don’t mock those who do enjoy him, but the simple fact is you have a young main character who through the writer is being forced to act like an adult and the transition simply does not translate very well.  Whenever he appears to be dealing with a difficult “moral dilemma” I find myself shaking my head because the dilemma isn’t as big as CP usually makes it out to be.  It ends off coming off as stale.  I understand why others disagree with me on that and that is perfectly fine with me.  It doesn’t wound me that others enjoy the characters.  All I am saying is I have seen much better, and I think CP has the potential to do much better

          • atra esterni ono thelduin

We’re very much alike you and me.

mainly because you can understand why others disagree with you, and its perfectly fine with you.

Whereas I can understand why others disagree with you, and its perfectly fine with me.
            (because ur an idiot)

          • Fp

Guess you’re entitled to think of me as an idiot.  I’m not sure ho in anyway that adds to the conversation.  Besides I think it already died.  BrinsingrBlade made it pretty clear he wanted the argument to end.

          • James Picard

Well, I see your point, and while I disagree about the charecters, I will concede that you have found an argument I can not counter.  Therefore, let us mimic Eragon and Islanzadi, and agree to disagree.  However, I am impressed with your argument.  Thank you for replying, and for discussing this peacefully.  In other places, this could’ve really degenerated fast.  However, we were able to maintainj a civil debate, and enjoy it, or at least I did.  However, you are clearly the victor.  Again, thank you for your time.  CP and IC rule!

      • atra esterni ono thelduin

EVERYONE GET HIM, HE HATED ON OUR OVERLORD! ALL HAIL CP! MASTERRACE!

… also christopher paolini is pretty cool too

    • Guest

You know, it’s absolutley amazing that we have the same opinion about the charecters.  For me, that was the only way I got through the Dwarf politics section of Brisingr.  Don’t get me wrong, I like the book, but I think it might’ve been better if CP had skipped that and just allowed Orik to be elected without several chapters about all this stuff.  He could still have Eragon and Saphira go to Tronjheim and repair Isidar Mithrim without the long, slowly-paced look into the dwarves political spectrum.  That being said, the charecters are great, and one of the highlights of the series.  When you have a main protaganist who actually feels like he is you, just in a different world, you know that you’re reading a great story.

  • Archer34

    Eragon all the way.
Ha my friend would kill me she is in love with Murtagh

  • Anonymous

I never liked Saphira as much as I liked Arya. Of the 2 Saphira has always been imature in many many ways whereas Arya is as cold and carefull as the years she carries on her back made her. For me it is Arya> Saphira.

  • Anonymous

I myself am a hopelessw romantic so I liek Arya. She is a complex character and the weight of a 100 year old journey on the train of life has made her stiff and cold. I would not be surprised to learn that she has yet to bond with a male of any race totally (if you know what I mean) Still she has feelings and that shows in Br. I think a romance between her and Eragon is inevitable and then Saphira would trust her enough to give her her Eldunari

boost and she would have no problem trusting her

    • Anonymous

For what reason would Saphira ever give Arya her eldunari?

  • Anonymous

I cannot root for Murtagh even if I wanted to. Apart from being forced to do what he did so far he seems to have developed an unhealthy relationship to the power that has been given to him. It might be weird but I think I would love to have a good look at Galbatorix’s point of vew of all this. He will surely have developed an elaborate and maybe true (partly) explanation of how he came to be known as the King of Alagaesia. Evil and Good are indeed POV’s and should be treated as such when it comes down to tough decisions. I would like to see Galby in Inheritance not just in the end but during the course of the book. His thoughts and feelings would be great to analyse. I bet writing about him would have been CP’s hardest achievement yet. I mean  3 books and still we know Galby from almost wany other source but the direct one! That will be hard to overcome.

So I root for Galby not Murtagh who is nothing more than a puppet with a twsited mind. As for Thorn I am following Saphira’s opinion: Red Runt! Whatever interested I had in Murtagh and thorn died back in Eldest when I read that he is a name slave of Galby. Tough luck Morzanboy!Sorry but no dice you are EVIL.

Galbatorix overthrew the Riders of old almost by himslef. Albeit evil he would be an awesome character to read and possibly root for until the end. Murtagh is a nuissance as far as I am concerned and I cannot see CP turing him into a savior of the Varden at any point anyway.

I had similar feelings about the anime story Death Note where 2 outstanding IQ forces collide against one another in a battle of philosophical POV’s and Death. This is how I almost feel towards the relationship Eragon and Galbatorix have. They have not officialy met yet and still they battle one another with any means necessary in order for their own way in the world to b e the dominant one.

    • Kira

This hasn’t anything to do with The Inheritance, but I’m going to say this anyway: I really, really hated the way Death Note ended. Kira should have won. N is an asshole. L should have lived. (As a looser, never able to catch Kira, but still alive.)

      • Could you seriously not tell that Light was gonna get caught? I thought that it was obvious right from the start that he would eventually get caught… then again, I thought that Near was extremely poorly written, with him practically pulling clues outta his ass…

Here’s my theory.  Stealth mission with lots of help from the werecats results in stealing the egg from Galbatorix right at the beginning of the book.  Egg hatches for Arya and epic romance ensues between her and Eragon, as prophesied by Angela in Book 1.  Arya needs basically no time to train as she’s already an expert with magic and sword play.  Greenie matures as the story progresses, but isn’t really mature enough to be useful until the final battle (or maybe as a decoy in the first battle).

Eragon and the Varden march on Uru’baen and succeed in killing Murtagh and Thorn in the battle.  The victory is not to be, however, as Galbatorix flys out on Shruikan and hands Eragon’s ass to him and kills Izlandei and/or Nasuada and a large number of Varden soldiers.  Eragon somehow escapes and goes looking for the Vault of Souls, which he finds.  He powers up with tons of Eldunari hidden from dragons past.  Eragon/Saphira, Arya/Greenie, and whatever is left of the Varden, elves, dwarves, and Urgals assault Uru’baen one final time.  Eragon finally succeeds in killing Galbatorix with a strike from Brisingr after some tricky magic and the Empire gets completely wiped out.  Then Eragon and Arya leave Alegasia together for some unknown reason while a mysterious enemy arises.

  • Wouldn’t it be odd if Murtagh became the green rider? Yes, he’s already a rider, but let me explain: If Thorn died, but Murtagh survived, Galbatorix would have to train another rider (Greeni’s rider), and I imagine this would be quite a bother to do (and I imaging Galby is the type to rarely do anything other than what he wants). Imagine if he convinced the green dragon to hatch for Murtagh? Also, if Thorn were to die, this would be quite a blow to Murtagh, and it might be enough to change his true name, and then Murtagh and the green dragon can oppose Galbatorix freely.

This is probably irrelevant, but I always imagined that the colours represent the riders. Galbatorix is black, representing his evil. Murtagh is red, representing anger, or maybe even madness. Not sure what the rest are… after looking it up, blue represents truth, honesty, and calmness, which does kinda represent Eragon. Gold represents wealth, knowledge, wisdom and prosperity, which we can definitely link with Oromis. Who knows, maybe Murtagh can change, become a better person, and help win the war against Galbatorix.

Or perhaps this idea is totally insane and a terrible idea, but please do tell me what you think 😀

    • Baconboy753

I dont think Eragon is calm 😛 haha think about when the dwarfs were picking a new king or when he was training with oromis he has a hot headed temper but otherwise i agree except murtagh being the green rider i think itll be Arya they need an elf rider

  • comment

  • where’scat

the new rider will be orik

    • Mr. Butters

Sigh… It can’t be Orik unless there is a drastic change in the spell that bound the riders&dragons. Surely you’ve heard this before…

      • Mikechimick

        I think it was a joke…

    • Anonymous

It could. Orik pretty much suggested/hinted just before he took the leadership of his people that he would like to join his race with the dragons, while at the same time criticised the rest of the clan leaders for being short- sighted in the matter.

Still I cannot see this working out. My guess is that if Orik would indeed be the Greeny’s Rider CP would have to extend the story for at least a year before the new Rider and his dragon would be battle- able. Orik needs some serious training ion the ways of magic and I cannot see the spare time available. I mean look at the closing of Brisingr,  Alagaesia is a mess! The Surdans and the Varden are on a full scale assault against the Empire and are not likely to stop even if a new Dragon hatched from his egg. If we see Greeny become an adult Dragon like Saphira then we must also assume that the whole book will last a year or more which imo does not keep the pace with the other 3 that only lasted about 6 months or less each. Still,  I would seriously have goosebumps if we saw a 25 year old Eragon battling Galby!!!

  • AniavereeAiedail

So… when the Ra’zac said that he was close to the name, where they referring to Eragon’s true name or the name of the Ancient language?

    • Tim G.

I would assume the AL. Galby simply can’t know enough about Eragon yet to figure out his true name.

      • Burzghash

not necessarily , he is quite adept at guessing true names and murtagh learned quite a bit about eragon as a person so galbatorix might be able to guess it. I agree it is probably not but I am also not sure that it is the ancient language

    • Anonymous

I think AL as well. I think that Angela’s old master Eragon met in Br. was also trying to figure out something big. Maybe he will contact Eragon before Galby unleashes a Grey-folk magnitude spell using the AL true name.

    • Chretienne

AL, because it would be much better to Galby, if he would get the rider, lots of magicians, and elves under his command.

    • PrometheusLKR

Maybe the true name of cheeseburgers?

    • a smart guy

This is up for speculation since Christopher didn’t tell us what it was about. However, I have a theory; he is searching for Saphira’s true name. She is the only female dragon, so if he could control her, he could control the future of all dragons. This was the reason Galboratrix wanted Eragon alive, so he wouldn’t hurt Saphira’s feelings.

  • Mattress

Roran is going to be king because he is a descendant of the mad king palincar. When orimis was telling eragon about the history of humans he said that palicar’s descendants settled in Carvahal and Therinsford. I am hoping that his child would die during the attack on Ur’baen (SP?)  and then go berserk/mad like when he killed 200 men because of his blood from palincar. He will break into the magic and with his first magic he will kill galby.

    • Anonymous

I root for a crowned Roran as well. He is the logical choice of ruloing Alagaesia and it would be close to perfection if Eragon would be there to see him rule the land into a bright new age. However Eragon is destined to leave Alagaesia with Arya. This is period 🙁

      • PrometheusLKR

Hm, but Eragon is presumably still in Alagaesia in Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia…

    • Shadeslayer

You think that, when he uses magic for the FIRST time, he will be able to kill Galbatorix, who has dozens of Eldunari, and has had the better part of a century to place countless wards upon himself.
      Really?!

      • Mattress

yep it will be a simple stener and he will lift galby and smash him down. even wards can be bypassed by excessive strength.

    • Elena Shadeslayer

      i hope.

did u read the book exert in barnes and noble .com?  it mite change ur mind.

  • Tavin

I think a good idea would be for Saphira to trust Arya with her Elundari, this way the elven spell casters and Arya can assist Eragon and Saphira from any distance away.. this will make them much more powerful I believe

    • Chretienne

I don’t want that Saphira will give her Eldunari to anybody. I think, that she has to be “whole”. I will be very dissapointed if she hands her Eldubari to ANYBODY, especially to Arya. I hate her. >:( Arya should be the one to die.

  • Melodia

I hope it ends happy…but not everyone pooping rainbows happy.
    Too boring

  • Callum

i want….. nasuada to die, roran to lead the varden, katrina to become queen, arya to be the new rider, BUT most of all, when eragon/galby are fighting i want galby to slice eragon from shoulder to hip, then, just when hes about to deal the death blow murtagh to have his true name change and stab galby thru the heart from behind

    • PrometheusLKR

I’m personally hoping for a divergence from the Star Wars plot… how about lukeragon winning the boss fight without a crucial intervention from Darth Murtagh?

      • Anonymous

too bad that will never happen….

      • Tim G.

Ha! Darth Murtagh. I like that.

I’m thinking there will be two battles with Galby. In the first one, Eragon has not found the VoS and the green rider has not appeared, so he gets trashed, but Murtagh and Thorn intervene, sacrificing themselves letting the heroes escape with the green egg (which Arya carries out of the castle). Then, after the egg hatches for Arya and they find the VoS, they return to Uru’baen and defeat Galby.

        • Chretienne

I agree with that “two battles” -thing, but I don’t think that Arya is the green rider. It is too obvious. + if Greeni hatches the way you described (just after they have escaped from Uru’baen), Greeni wouldn’t have enough time to grow, and become useful in battle. Unless they spent like 3 months in “searching for VoS” -trip.

        • Anonymous

Everything is pretty much open to a lot of possibilities. I think CP has made some sort of “writting trickery” so do not be surprised if the 1st scene of the book we have a 30 year old Eragon murdering Galby. It would be sooooooo coool!!!!

          • No

            No.

        • Elena Shadeslayer

yea. i bet they send arya to take the green egg and to her suprize, she hears a squeak from the stone. then it hatches, AND MY DREAMS WILL COME TRUE!!!!!

(if u didnt notice, i want arya to be the next rider)

  • Brianstheguy

lol a day late on this post hey. lol

  • Guest

Eragon, natch.  And to all those out there who claim so, Sphira will NOT die, for this important reason: it contradicts Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia, which establishes that Eragon, Saphira, and Glaedr’s Eldunari live past the events of Inheritance.  Herego, Saphira lives.  Weather or not anyone else dies, however, is left for us, as far as I know.  But none of us really know much, do we?  Book’s not out yet, so we can’t claim anything, unless it’s already been established.

  • Oromis = Liam Neeson

I hope everything ends well for Shruikan, poor dude. I think Shruikan may be Galbatorix’s downfall, maybe instead of attacking Galbatorix’s mind directly, Eragon/Saphira will try to break the magic holding him. Could be easier to do, then shruikan would turn and kill Galbatorix haha

    • Anonymous

An impossibility. Shruikan may not have been Galby’s original Dragon but after a century of being attached to the King he would have no problem obeying and give him advice even without any black magic. Shruikan is Galby’s dragon and  he is an enemy and that is that. This is not “Return of the Jedi” and I am personally glad for this! There are no shortucts nor any longer paths for Eragon and Saphira to follow here. Blue and black shall collide one way or another in the end.

      • Eragon Bromsson

How do you know? CP hasn’t told us about Shruiken and we have seen no other Dragons bound in the same way!

  • Chelsea.S

C.P better not pull no Avatar the Last Airbender thing (were after 3 season of saying ‘o hes going to kill the firerlord’ then Aang finds a way out by a giant sea turtle….). Anyways after three books, ~2,000+ pages, and five years of my life invested into this series, Eragon better kill Gabatorix, Murtugh better live, and Rowan is freakin king.

    • Burzghash

while I will agree it would be horribly misplaced in this series I think the giant lionturtle worked for avatar and for the record they never said he would kill him just defeat him and so he did .

as for the rest of your comment I agree though I thing it’s spelled Roran .

      • PrometheusLKR

        And I think it’s spelled “t-h-i-n-k” 😛

        Muphry’s Law FTW!

        • Burzghash

wow well that makes me look like an idiot doesn’t it.

          • bigmike

Not an idiot, just careless for not double checking your comment.

    • THEJOKER

WHY DO YOU WANT A TREE AS KING?

      • bigmike

And why a rowan at that? Everyone knows that a common hickory would be a better leader than a snobby rowan. The hickory is flexable enough to bend with the gales, but strong enough that it wont break in a storm. It is a just tree while the rowan has care for others.

  • Claire14

Oh yeah…I’m rooting for Saphira (go Saphira!!!! best character in the book) and so by extension Eragon

  • Glerk

Question: what is everyone going to do once they finish this book?

    • Oromis = Liam Neeson

      Re-read… a lot haha

    • Burzghash

be filled iwth an overwhelming sense of joy and then depression because I won’t have any more inheritance to read . so I’ll go on this site for like a week and look at older posts so I can pretend the 4th book isn’t out yet.

    • PrometheusLKR

Probably start in on the Harry Potter books, been meaning to give those some attention for a while.

      • THEJOKER

I LOVE HARRY POTTER, GO DEMENTOIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Thelton

i predict suicicdes will increase. If not, i will be so depressed that i was wrong and the books are over i would jump of the roof and then make my statement true, but i can’t fix that there is no more inheiritence *sigh*

    • Matt S

      Play Skyrim… what else?

      • Baconboy753

YESSSSS!!!!! SKYRIM two of my most awaited things ever within 3 days!!

    • Chretienne

Read other books/series..? The Inheritance isn’t = life..? I’m planning to read more Robin Hobbs/Megan Lindholms books (The Farseer Trilogy <3), and lots of manga. Then, between all this I'm focusing on studying. Final year before… high school? I don't know on what educational degree my education at the moment in America would be. We do not have quite the same levels of education. But anyhow.. I will continue living. End of The Inheritance isn't going to crush my life. Of course I'm hoping that CP will write more books in the future but before that.. World is full of other brilliant writers.

    • Anonymous

Stupid question!!! Read it again of course, this time slowly!

    • THEJOKER

Reread 5000 times in a month

  • Claire14

I am really annoyed….exam week is the week after I will get Inheritance and so the book will be sitting there…teasing me…..while I am ten feet under in study….GRRRRR

    • thelton

you have a whole week to study. I plan to try and finish the book before school(at 7) if possible then re-read ASAP. If not, tests can’t be that important ;D

    • Ugh, dude, I’ve got exams right up until the sixteenth. I’m gonna try and multi-task, and do both study and Inheritance reading… and fail miserably 😛

    • Anonymous

My last day of high school (FOREVER) is the same day Inheritance releases! And then my exams start a week after! I’m not sure whether I should study or read. School would be WAY more exciting if Brom taught English…

      • Anonymous

I am 23 and I feel kinda left out from the rest of the group lol. I still like the series liek all of you younger ones because CP is close to my age and I can see his writing as equal to my expectations. Still I too have serious exams to take and pass in my uni…. well if only one course was called “Alagaesia 101”

        • Jjerzeybrown

dont feel to old im 31 i started reading eragon in a bunker in iraq because there was nothing else left on the shelf without a half naked dude on the cover now i sent my kid into the young adult section for the guide to alagesia because i didnt want to creep out the other kids and parents at bn

        • Ashley A

Fear not! I’m 20 years old (going on 21 soon enough) and I’ll be chin-deep in studies soon after Inheritance comes out as well! Thankfully (through a lot of planning) I am able to go to one of the C.P. meet and greets, but it is only a few days after Inheritance comes out and I won’t be able to get Inheritance till a couple days after it comes out b/c I pre-ordered it at home. Hopefully C.P. doesn’t spoil anything… =^O Good luck on your exams! 🙂

        • THEJOKER

So what? My 95 year old Grandmother loves these books, 23 isn’t that far out of the younger group when you take the oldies like her into account.

      • Elena Shadeslayer

schoo would be better if we had dragon riding, magic history, and sparring
all taught by dragons and riders and other creatures,
instead of algbra, science, and english…

        blah.
study AND read. read 3 chapters of inheritance, study for 20 minutes. read 5 chapters in inheritance, study fro fifteen minutes. read 7 chapters: ten study minutes. read 9 chapters:  5 study minutes. read 11 more chapters: no study minutes….

  • MrRaymondh222

i hope that eragon kills GAlbatorix, but mutagh’s dragon dies because he abused hid powers

I think I’m going to cry when I get my hands on that book. It’s been to long…

where is the 2nd part to the christoper interview that happened forever ago??

    • THEJOKER

      The Menoa tree has it!

  • Elena Shadeslayer

GUYS I REALIZED SOMETHING DREADFUL (unless u consider it otherwise)
IN THE LAST LETTER OF “ERAGON”S GUIDE TO ALGAESIA”, ITS SAYS “…and protect the two of you.”
    TWO.
does that mean the elven twins??? but it cant be, since CP said that the rider of greenie was in all the books.
but you two…… hmmmm… REPLY TO MEEEE

    • Guest

I think that it means your dragon and yourself- which are two different beings in and of themselves

    • Levis

      The rider and dragon.

    • Arvindr

he means both the new dragon and rider.

    • Jjerzeybrown

      the two= rider and dragon

      • Elena Shadeslayer

oh. *feels stupid for not realizing the obvious*

but this means that (hopefully) saphira’s son/daughter has hatched for a rider.
or its the green dragon and his rider…

  • Caroline

I want Eragon to kick Galby’s ass, but I want Murtagh to turn good and join Eragon. Its not asking too much for a happy ending!!! 😮

    • THEJOKER

I want Galby to kick something of Orrins! Guess what.

  • snowlight silent night

I think galby going to lose controll of murtagh some how then die by murtagh sword.

  • PhoenixFlame

Did anyone ever think that the green egg might hatch for ERAGON?
    Just a thought!

    • Elena Shadeslayer

impssible. a rider cant hatch fro two people. lol

      • pinkpolkadots

        maybe Saphira will die…

        • Claire14

that is actually an interesting theory, i hadn’t considered it before-does it mention whether Saphira is alive in Eragon’s guide to alagaesia??

          • Matt S

            Yes.

          • BlueBiscuit

I’ve neve read it, only looked through it at the book store, so take this with a grain of salt.

I for one am hopIng sapphira survives, but I do not believe the guide is a good teller of things to come. It refers to glaedr as if he is alive as well. So maybe Eragon’s travels with Saphira are only with her eldunari

          • Elena Shadeslayer

it does, many times. in the beginning its says “Saphira and I will return soon…”

      • Kincabre

        says who?

    • Kincabre

that is a very good though/idea. Afterall Eragon is named after the first rider?? Perhaps this is the final extent of his change from the dragons during the agaeti Blodrhen? good idea none the less.

  • Cbinder2012

I can’t wait much longer…2 weeks is just too long…the book is taunting me.

  • Mal

I’m rooting for Eragon… but I don’t want Murtagh to die either! I still think there’s something more to Galby though. My theory is that greenie will hatch for someone while in Uru’baen, and will be raised in much the same way Thorn was, but will somehow free himself and his rider. I really love the theory that Shruikan will bond with someone else too. I don’t think its possible, but it would be sooo cool if it happened:)

  • twilightdragoness

Umm, just to be random, I’m rooting for everyone’s favorite witty witch Angela, but then this is coming from a person who will have no life in November. As for Eragon and Murtaugh, I will respectfully bowed to the author’s opinion and wait…while jumping up and down in anticipation watching the days count down one by one until the 8th!

    • THEJOKER

ALL HAIL QUEEN ANGELA, LADY OF THE PSYCHOS!

      • THEJOKER

        • THEJOKER

          I’M COMPLETELY PSYCHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ERAGON!! He fights not for himself or for some madman but for the people of the world. Murtagh is an unwilling servant though, and I cannot put into words how much I hope he can be freed and start a new, better life. It might be too much to hope for though.

    • AniavereeAiedail

better life meaning one he starts with Nasuada? i’d always hoped something would happen between them. 🙂 How ironic would that be if the one person they didn’t want to join the Varden became one of the leaders in the final battle after (if) he changes his name. I know, i know, cheeeesy but what can i say, im a romantic. lol.

      • Melodia

        I like it 😀

      • THEJOKER

I’m crying, WITH LAUGHTER, good job that’s a great theory, pardon me if I LAUGH, I love comedy, now to go watch the disaster channel, GO GALBY!!!!!!!!

      • bigmike

I like Murtage, Ive liked him since the beginning of his role, but I think that if he is going to turn on Galbi, it will be to die saving Nasuada in a very Brom like way. It would be a great way for him to change his true name trying to save someone else and sacrificing himself, because he is pretty much someone who only does things out of self preservation. So it would be ironic if he did something of that sorts. But it does make sense as something that he would do for her.

  • Arya<3

    I’m rooting for Arya!

    • Emily Sasaki

Arya, Arya, ARYA, ARYA!!!! She’s the best character in the entire series!!!!

      • Kellykirkpeet

Nooooo Saphira is by far the greatest character in the series!!!!!!!!! but in my opinion Arya will be the next rider

        • Elena Shadeslayer

She BETTER be the next rider!!!!

AWWW Saphira and Arya, the best characters….cant decide which is better….

      • She’s definitely the hottest =)

  • Arrétay

I’m hoping Murtagh goes back to the Varden.

I wonder if the new Rider will be one of the Elf children. That would be interesting.

    • Emily sasaki

Can’t be. Christopher said in an interview that it was someone who was featured in every Inhertance book so far.

      • Elena Shadeslayer

        like arya…

      • Elena Shadeslayer

        wait… whered he say this?

      • DonnyD

Does it have to be someone who was actual featured in the novel or could it be someone who was just merely mentioned?

  • DragonsAreAwesome

I am getting really REALLY excited.  I am starting to believe thatI will actually and finally get to read the 4th book!

  • Jamie V

I am defently rooting for Murtagh since he is my favroite character. I hope he will be able to help Eragon in the end. I really dont want him to die but if he does I would be ok with a meaningful death like him dying to save eragon.

  • Michaelfan13

Im on Eragon side, unless Murtagh changes then I will be on both sides

  • Xxiaosaurus

Here’s how I think it may happen for Murtagh:

His true name WILL change, but at the Battle of Uru’baen when Eragon faces Murtagh, wins, and then Galbatorix pops in to finish him (because he’s such an opportunist and cheater throughout the cycle!). Eragon tells them of his own heritage, which causes Murtagh’s true name to change and save him from the king’s killing blow. He, Eragon and the Green Rider band together (with Murtagh’s connection to the Eldunari) against the king, which results in the king losing. Unfortunately, old Galby makes an underhanded stab at Murtagh which allows Eragon to make the killer blow on the king. Thus, Murtagh dies at the battle’s end as a martyr.

How’s that for an ending: he and  Eragon (briefly) fighting together again, and providing the turning point?

    • Jamie V

wow i thought the same thing. i am a huge Murtagh fan but if he gets a meaningful death like that i think i will be ok.

    • gabs345

thats a good thought. that murtagh dies. i think that he’s had such an unfortunate life that the only way for him to die is something unfair like that. it kind of reminds me of what Angela said about Brom in one of the books. a rider who failed at everything accept killing Morzan (because he lost his love, his dragon, etc…)

    • Guest

That would be interesting.  I can see that happening, but, then we don’t know who the Green Rider will be.  General concensus goes to Arya, but we may all be wrong.  It could be Nasuada, Elva, Birgit, Elain, Horst, Jeod, anyone.  It doesn’t even have to be female, remember.  Myself, I never put too much stock in theorising, as the writer will write the way he wants, and I may be wrong.  However, I think that that would be a great end to Murtagh.

  • Iduno

I am definetaly on eragons side. He’s my favorite character so I’m rooting for eragon and I hope murtagh breaks free

    • THEJOKER

I want Eragon to have a son named Ekul, turn to the darkside, and say “No, Ekul, I am your father, after a redeemed murtagh raises Ekul to serve the Light. GO GALBY

      • THEJOKER

I want Eragon to have a son named Ekul, turn to the darkside, and say “No, Ekul, I am your father” after a redeemed murtagh raises Ekul to serve the Light. GO GALBY

  • Shanar

I think that Murtagh will break free of Galbatorix, and redeem himself, and then die shortly after.  No, I don’t want that to happen, Murtagh is one of my favorite characters!  But alas… It seems inevitable.

    • Jamie V

      i know its so sad

  • One thing that I don’t know if anybody has thought of is even if early in the book the last egg is stolen and hatches. Unless through magical assistance it would make months before the green dragon would be useful in combat and can breath fire. Not to mention that it took months for Eragon to gain the level of competence in both swordplay and magic, months of basically non stop training. I just don’t see how the green dragon will be of major use in the battles to come.

    • JustPlainEric

For all we know, the green egg could have already been stolen, and the Rider and Dragon could be in hiding. CP kinda left that open when asked in the Comic-Con interview…

      • Honestly that would be so lame in my opinion.

    • Anonymous

The green dragon (if hatched early) could be useful if the timeline of the book spans several months.

    • Iduno

I don’t think None noticed but all the young dragons on the cover like saphira and thorn have smooth flat scales and all the old dragons like glaedr have ruffled bent scales. And the dragon on the cover of inheritance has to be old somehow cause of his scales

    • Fp

Personally I think that is where the vault of souls will come in.  While most people think it is a bunch of eldunari, I believe it will contain something good that allows the green dragon to grow and be capable of battle quicker than usual.  While this likely won’t actually be the case, I think it is better than the lame and way to expected idea that the vault contains a bunch of eldunari.  If it does become that I am probably going to yawn at that point in the book.

  • 2772anonymous2772

Go Murtagh!! And of course Eragon and Saphira and the rest, but Murtagh most of all!

  • All Hail Emperor Murtagh

Murtagh all the way. My hope is that he and Thorn will free themselves from the influence of both the Empire and the Varden, and leave Alagaesia, avoiding having to deal with the wrath of the dwarves. The two of them joining the Varden and becoming more of Nasuada’s lackeys would be as bad as the two of them dying. <_<

  • gabs345

Obviously hoping for victory for Eragon and the Varden! However I pity Murtagh and hope he is freed from Galbatorix and gets his happy ending too. TWO WEEKS YES.

  • Arya

Wasn’t there a Green Rider’s sword in Ellesmera?  I think who gets the green dragon is obvious

    • Coasterking

you thinking what im thinking aka sloan is the green rider.

      • love<3

        Sloan?

        • Oromis = Liam Neeson

That could hint towards Roran though. He has the fighting style that matches that sword

      • sameer

comeon, sloan? a dying man who even with eyes restored is too weak. no, a dragon won’t bond with him

      • BrunoLikesInheritance

no no no one he’s blind two eragon knows his true name and if galby were to break into eragons mind he would know sloans and if he had sloans true name if he were the rider it would be dangerous and there is a pretty good possibility that galby can break through eragons mental defenses because we dont know how many eldunari are on his side and how powerful he really is

  • Coasterking

i hope galby dies and everyone else lives

    • THEJOKER

VICE VERSA YOU TREASONOUS WYRM, THOUGH ERAGON AND ARYA AND MURTHAGH CAN LIVE AS GALBY’S APPRENTICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just worried about the fact there is no way I can get the book on Tuesday 8th November.
Tuesday’s a school day and the local town only has a used book shop. And Amazon and Waterstones (UK equivalent of Barnes and Noble) don;t guarantee delivery for the 8th. For Brisingr, Amazon delivered the books three days late.

Really don;t know what to do.

    • Erinmarie1986

Download a Kindle app on your computer or phone and then buy the kindle book. It will deliver instantly. I dont know if that works in the UK but it does in the USA.

    • gabs345

are you kidding Amazon delivered three days late? It said it would deliver on the release date so they better stay true to that…

      • Anonymous

I ordered Brisingr through Amazon and it was 10 days late. I couldn’t go online because of the risk of spoilers! I’ve ordered a copy of Inheritance at a bookstore, to garuntee I get to read it on the day 😀

        • Koda101

I ordered mine online because I got a really good price for a 4-book box set but I know I might not get it for a couple of weeks after the 8th! EEEEK! I don’t want to buy another book as well! I have even resorted to asking my local library when Inheritance will be in to see if I can get it any earlier D: I am just going to have to keep off Shurtugal until I read it….which will be very difficult as it is a deeply engrained habit 😉

      • love<3

Amazon delivered Deathly Hallows on the release date for me

        • Me

They delivered my copy of Hallows a day late. I don’t know if I fully trust them, but I had to go with delivery on this one too… hopefully it’s not too slow.

    • Anonymous

If delivery for the 8th isn’t guaranteed, you’ll only have to wait a few extra days at the most. Think yourself lucky, I have to wait until Christmas for my copy 😉

    • Anonymous

      You can buy the e-book.

  • Sunda_Garm

I hope Galbatorix dies, Roran and Katrina live, Murtagh changes his true name and join the Varden, Arya finally tells Eragon that she loves him, and Saphira to live and finally get a mate.

Before Eragon’s second fight with Murtagh, Arya was about to say something but stops herself. Eragon even knew she was about to say more. Think she was going you say that she had feelings for him?

I really, really want Roran and Katrina to live. Roran is my favorite character and if Katrina dies he would go on a suicide rampage to kill Galbatorix himself. Don’t kill off Roran or Katrina!!!!!!

  • Jblue3

I hope that Murtagh and Thorn go back to good.
I hope that Eragon and Saphira get together  with the new rider and greenie
    I hope Galby dies

    • gabs345

if the new rider is arya!

    • THEJOKER

      TREASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oOo

When the book will release in greece?

    • Anonymous

      NEVER

  • GregB

With all that has happened to Roran I have, until now, failed to actually picture him as a father. If he lives to see the day do think he would be a good one?

    • Blackthornrose

i really do think he’ll be a great father. he loves katrina so much, and he already loves that baby so much that he is determined to end the war before she/he is born.

  • Blackthornrose

I’d love a victory for both Eragon and Murtagh…Murtagh has had such a crappy lot in life, he deserves something decent for a change…I would have said him becoming a rider was a decent change, but the circumstances under which that happened tainted that joy. He would have made a great rider for the Varden if Galby hadn’t gotten to him (provided the Varden had managed to steal another egg, instead of Galby capturing Murtagh and then the egg hatching for him).

  • Anonymous

I hope Nasuada dies. And I hope Eragon delivers the fatal blow. Maybe he discovers what happened to Roran (whipping post)and paired with her other terrible decisions, Eragon decides she is a jerk and the world would be better off without her.

    • gabs345

      why the Nasuada hate?

      • Anonymous

I don’t think she is a very good leader and I don’t like a lot of her decisions. I have disliked her from the first time we met her in Tronjheim and my opinion of her has gotten worse over time. Do you like her? Do you agree with her decisions?

        • Maryia 97

I don’t know, she managed to get the varden across hard times… the whipping post thing was fair in my opinion. And Eragon cant hurt her seeing as he swore himself to her.

          • Koda101

It isn’t fair to dislike Nasuada so much. She is a very strong and intelligent woman who has succeeded in rallying the Varden and keeping everything together. She tries to do what is best and fairest for her people. I think she is a great leader and has done the best she can under the circumstances. Someone in her position has to make decisions that aren’t liked by everyone. She is a good person and I don’t think she liked whipping Roran any more than all us readers did. She couldn’t show favouritism to Roran though or it would have caused a lot of trouble. I think Eragon would have understood that too even if he didn’t like what she did. Also Eragon is her vassal and he knew what he was getting himself in to when he swore himself to her. So technically she has a right to lord it over him a little and she only does it when she has to. Eragon can be a little impetuous sometimes and Nasuada only uses her hold over him when she has to get him to do something she thinks is best for the Varden as a whole. Eragon knows she wouldn’t ask him to do anything that is really terrible. Nothing could make him do something he thought was truly wrong. In my opinion Nasuada has not done badly by any of her people and has done far better than anyone else could have done. I think the real reason people don’t like her so much is because she has a powerful position that equals Eragon’s in some sense and it is completely biased and unjust to hate her for that. Also people are afraid that Eragon will decide he loves Nasuada so they don’t like her for that either. I really don’t want to see that happen either but that is still no reason to hate Nasuada. Besides, as I have said somewhere in a previous post, I think it is highly unlikely that Eragon will suddenly fall in love with Nasuada when he has been set on Arya for three whole books now!

          • THEJOKER

SHE’S AN ARROGANT HAG/WITCH (BEFORE THE LETTER “B” WAS INVENTED)

          • Koda101

Well I think she is being judged unfairly….particularly because she is a girl! She has done better than any other leader of the Varden and has achieved the most! And she is doing whatever she can to win the war against Galbatorix. I’m not saying she is perfect or that she does the right thing all the time. She, like many other characters, is in a difficult position, under a lot of pressure, with a lot of responsibility (probably more so than most) and does what she can to ensure the success of the Varden as a whole. I know she can sometimes overlook the complete welfare of individuals but in a group as large as the Varden, I think she does pretty well. I just don’t think it is fair that everyone hates her so much. I mean people don’t hate any other character with the same unfounded prejudice as with Nasuada. It is not like they haven’t made mistakes too.

    • Becky L

      YES!

  • Eiyra

ack, what kinda question…? Um, charcter that I would hate to see die?( AKA, ones Im rooting for?) Arya and Murtagh. Solembum too.

    …and…

    CAT BURGLARS!!!!!!!

    • Mr-x

God i hope poor thorn doesn’t die maybe the opposite? even though i hope poor murtagh doesn’t die the dragons need a win and god knows saphira could use another dragon to help her fight shruikan

      • really?

dragons dont live without their rider.

        • John15781

Glaedr is alive (kind of) but Oromis is dead.

          • Anonymous

Slightly better example: Glaedr did not instantly die upon Oromis’s death.

        • :P

they do/can, thats just something the film said and had wrong… like what is meant is that if the rider dies, the dragon will like go on revenge or something and like give up on life, same for a rider if the dragon dies, they normally give up wanting to live, brom is one of the few exceptions

        • Me

          Yes they do.

        • Elena Shadeslayer

yes they can!!! THAT FREAKING MOVIE MESSED EVERYONE UP!!!! ASK CP HIMSELF!!!! DRAGONS CAN LIVE WITHOUT THERI RIDERS AND VISE VERSA!!!! GO REREAD TE SERIES IF U DONT BELIEVE ME!!!!!

    • The Green dragon

i agree. cat burgelers are the most important. but i dont want thorn to die.

      • Nico_genovese

I read that thorn has gone insane thanks to galby, so maybe its a blessing that he would die

        • bigmike

Where? I thought that it was shruikan who had his mind twisted.

  • Just a question for the people who want Murtagh to join the varden. What about the fact that Eragon swore to avenge Hothgar’s death. Basically he swore to kill Murtagh, so how could Murtagh join the varden? Even if Eragon broke his oath, the Dwarves would never allow that. Even as level headed as Orik is I’m sure he couldn’t forgive that.

    • timmy

he swore to avenge his death, not kill murtagh.  it could be interpreted as avenging his death by defeating galbatorix, since galbatorix enslaved murtagh.

      • I can see that in a roundabout sort of way and even though Galbatorix was controlling Murtagh when he slew Oramis and Gladr’s body, I still think in my opinion he has done too much to be forgiven. Which is something  that I forgot earlier, the elves now also have a vendetta with Murtagh. I just don’t see how he can be allowed to live. Personally I hope that Eragon retrieves Oramis’ sword and takes all of the energy stored in it, hunts down Murtagh and kills him. The only thing that would make it better is if he could kill him at Gil’ead. Would be perfect symmetry since that is where Brom killed Morzan.

  • Brom

I want to see Murtagh die and the rider of the green dragon kill him

  • Oakley

eragon winning murtagh over to the varden. that will be one of the greatest victories.

  • Emeric

Darn, I’m only halfway through Eldest! How will I have time to re-read Brisingr too?!

    • Oakley

read as fast as u can

      • Emeric

I’m trying to, but I’ve got homework standing in my way…

        • Thier91q

don’t make your homework, read the books instead 😛

          • Me

            One word: Multitask

    • When I reread I skip every point of view except Eragon’s. I don’t know if you feel like you will lose out, but after the first read I really don’t care about anybody else’s point of view.

      • Emeric

Nope, I need to read everyone’s part of view. Especially Roran’s.

        • Emeric

I mean, I enjoy the book for what it is, not for what the story is. And as future writer myself, I enjoy every word I read in the Inheritance-cycle. It also helps me create and form a world of my own.

      • love<3

LOL, I did the same thing

      • Me

Really? I couldn’t read Roran’s in Eldest the first time through. I got bored. But the second time and from then on I loved reading his POV as much as/more than Eragon’s.

        • Anonymous

Really? The first time through, I LOVED Roran’s POV and it was the second time I read it that I got bored with him

          • Me

Well, I might have liked it if I’d actually tried to read it… but seriously, how can you when you come to the end of the Eragon chapter and it’s like, “then a huge gold dragon rose from below the precipice with a Rider on its back”, and then cuts back to good old Roran in Carvahall?
…Meanest chapter break ever. Ha ha. 😉
So I skipped to the next Eragon POV, and never figured out how the heck Roran got down to the battle at the end in a pirate ship until my second time through. 😛

      • sameer

I did the same thing, it gets too boring seeing I already know it and hadn’t liked it much the first time

      • Ashley

        lol me too, =D

    • Iduno

Haha I know same here. I will probably read as much as I can and then when it comes out I will just skip the rest. I have read them enough times I know what happens

  • Cory Knoll

Mike! What’s up with the second half of the interview? Are we going to see it before the release?

    • The_White_Rider

You didn’t hear? Random House thought it would build a lot more hype if they actually published it along with the book, so instead of a prologue this book will have the interview transcript. Clever, right?

      • Blackthornrose

that should be interesting…i look forward to reading the interview transcript then!

        • Coasterking

dont belive him its coming out this week mike got the go ahead to put it up

      • Coasterking

         your wrong

      • Cory Knoll

Well that sounds like some made-up BS if ever I’ve heard of it. And they wouldn’t leave out a prologue in the stead of anything else, the point of it being there is to remind readers what happened in the past book. It’s a pretty important part of the book.

Also, Bob said he thinks it’ll be released this week, maybe Thursday.

  • Alexis

Okay so what about Roran??? Does anybody cares what happens to him?????

    • Sallystar6of7

YES!!!!!! of course we care! he and katrina will live happily ever after!!!!!!!! either as king and queen or in palencar valley.

    • Blackthornrose

Well we think in the excerpt that a wall will fall on Roran, but i just don’t see C.P. killing Roran off after all he and Katrina have been through just to be together (not to mention the baby!)….so I certainly hope they will live happily ever after…

      • Irock13198

everyone thinks roran will use magic to stop the wall from killing him, he know the words in the ancient launguge “stone rise”

        • Alexis

That’s a really smart theory!!! Love that!!!!

  • Alexis

Murtagh!!!!!!!! All the way!!!! I ain’t getting it on Nov 8. My grandma ordered me one of the signed copies!!!! I’m so excited!!!!!!

  • Die, Nasuada!

    • Cory Knoll

Be honest, Chris. What are your feelings about Nasuada? You podcasting says ‘hate,’ your commenting says ‘hate,’ but your secret diary says “Chris + Nasuada = Love 4Evr,” doesn’t it? … or… or does it just say “Hate?”

      • THEJOKER

You’re nearly as insane as me HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • bigmike

          And you as I.

I have mixed feelings about her she has made some good calls but also many rash decisions that can undermine her campaign.

    • Burzghash

oh and you can tell mike that your soothing southern tones add a level of awesome to the show that would otherwise be lacking.

      • bigmike

Our tones might be soothing, but our tempers are as wide as the south itself. But we are fun to be around at a party, cause there is no one who throwdown like a country boy in his natural habitat. (ie, a four acre field with a bon fire in the middle, with the music pumpin and just about everyone in town having a good ol time, with the sheriff using his lights as a strobe and them perdy lil country girls dancing on the tailgate of your truck. While you stomp your feet into that red dirt to the honkitonk till the sun comes up.) If any of yal have been to a true southern party, you know what im talking about.

        • Matt S

          Hell yea!

    • yo dough boi

      Are you German?

  • I really want Murtagh to break his bond and join the Varden. I wouldn’t even care if that meant the green dragon and rider were on galbatorix’s side if it meant Thorn and Murtagh got away.

    • Blackthornrose

i agree, though i don’t think the green dragon/rider will be on galby’s side. i would bet that if murtagh and thorn managed to break their oaths to galby, they would also do anything they could to damage his chances of winning, so I would also bet they would at least attempt to steal the green egg so that it’s rider would not have to suffer under galby the way they did. I know there is still good in murtagh, it’s just buried under all his pain and suffering.

    • Irock13198

umm i kinda think the oppisite

      • You want eragon to break his bond with the varden and join Galbatorix? J/k but what do you mean by the opposite.

    • Blackthornrose

unfortunately, there is no book store near me anymore. i’d have to drive about an hour away for it….our Borders store closed when they went out of business, so i will probably have to order mine online, unless Books A Million decides to open within the next two weeks since they took over the Borders building….

    • AvaAnnaZ

      Yes, it is wrong.

How about, if the green egg hatches after Galby is killed? I mean, that he could be “born in freedom, promise of better tomorrow etc”? Then his rider doesn’t have to be already skilled in everything. Plus, I’m pretty sure that there will be some kind of “few years later” -thing. I just hope that it is 100 year later, not some 5 years later.  Oh, and Eragon will win. Thorn dies, maybe Murtagh too.

    i honestly. cant. wait

  • The Grey Rider

Okay, I’m going for the two of them:

i.e. Murtagh redeeming himself by breaking free of Galbatorix and then stabbing him in the back, and Eragon stabbing Galby in the front, and maybe kicking him in the balls a couple of times.

Then Murtagh turning vigilante to try and regain a bit of honour in everyone’s eyes.

“tragic” heroes with very little chance of a happy ending. I see
in them a lot of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings or professor
Snape from Harry Potter series – not “bad” inside, but forced to
do plenty of bad things (not out of their own will). how happy
ending there can possibly be for them? how can Varden (not their
“officials”, but common people) forgive them all the pain and
death they have caused in case Murthag and Thorn would manage to
escape Galbatorix? how can dwarves fight alongside him after he
killed their king Hrothgar? no way – in my eyes, Murthag and Thorn
have “tragedy” written all over them and most probably won´t be
    able to escape their fate…

but before that, I believe they will play a huge role in
overthrowing Galby. they won´t die in his services, they will free
themselves from Galbatorix and die “honorably”, causing him a
great damage before he kills them. here is how I think it could
    happen:

if they ever are to free themselves from Galbatorix, they would
have to change their true names, their very personality. they are
both “good” inside, and I don´t expect them to change for worse.
so how can they change for even better? I believe Murthag will
fall in love with some woman, which will change his personality
and so also his true name (and through their connection also
Thorn´s). who this woman might be? if she should be somebody
already known tu us, I would bet on Nasuada. during their brief
time together in Eragon book, they seemed to enjoy company of each
other – it seemed to me then as a possible beggining of some
    romance.

so here is my “wild” theory: Murthag with Thorn will somehow manage to
kidnap Nasuada and imprison her in Uru´baen. there Murthag will
have time to meet with her in jail and fall in love with her. once he
does, it will change his true name and free him from Galbatorix.
he decide to turn against Galby, free Nasuada from the prison,
steal the green egg and escape to Varden. Galbatorix will pursue
and kill all of them, but fail to get the egg back and it will
somehow come to the Varden (maybe Murthag will be able to send it
to Eragon the same way as Arya did with Saphira´s egg?)

the green dragon will hatch for Arya, of that I am almost sure.
besides her green magic which fit the egg´s colour, Eragon don´t
have the time to teach all the necessary things (especialy magic)
to anybody else – Arya is already as skilled a swordsman and
spellcaster as anybody, so Eragon would have to teach her only the
few rider´s secrets that Oromis explained to him and that Arya
doesn´t know – which would also create perfect opportunity for the
two of them to became closer to each other (finally)

oh, and Roran will succeed Nasuada as a leader of the Varder, but
won´t became the new king of Alagaesia after Galbatorix is dead –
if I remember correctly, he promised Katrina a farm in Palancar
valley at their wedding. who else might become the new king, i
don´t know – maybe Orrin if he somehow manage to survive to the
    end?

    so to sum it up:

    – Murthag and Thorn will manage to change their true names and free
themselves from Galbatorix (my bet is by falling in love with
    Nasuada)

    – they will be the ones to steal the green egg

    – there will be no happy ending for them – Galby will kill them
    – green dragon will hatch for Arya (no big surprise here)

    – Roran won´t become the new king after Galbatorix

How is murthag not bad inside? He killed Hrothgar because he wanted to not because he was ordered to by galby and given the choice between his and thorns death and being forced to kill hundreds perhaps thosunds of people he chose his own life. He even said at one point that nobodys life was more important than his and thorns.

He has a lot of power and he likes it. He may hate galby and he may hate being his slave but that does not mean that he does not enjoy using his power to destroy.

      • Petrik

if I remeber correctly, he said that himself
(that he is not bad inside, only forced to do bad things not out of his
free will) in dialogue with Eragon in Brisingr – when Eragon advice him
to change his true name and so free himself from Galbatorix.

if he refused to sacrifice himself – commit suicide – for the “greater good”,
that doesn´t automaticaly make him a “bad” person. yes, he is more
“selfish” and less “idealist” – less “honorable” than classic “epic
hero” who doesn´t have any negatives at all, but considering his
background, I believe Murthag is as “good” as he can. he has my
        sympathies

        • The Grey Rider

In many ways, he’s more interesting than Eragon.

I’d kill to know what’s going on in Thorn’s head…

          • HB

well, first of all, we dont know what exactly his orders from galbatorix were. second, the first meeting between Murtagh, the dwarves and the rest of the Varden didnt go particularly well. Murtagh seems like the kind of person who is nice (or tries to be nice) to people who have showed him kindness in return. judging from what we know of his upbringing, he didnt exactly have a happy childhood. I believe that he is just trying to make the best out of what he has been given.

i also dont believe he killed oromis and glaedr, galbatorix is basically using murtagh and thorn as his puppets, they dont have much control over themselves and what they do.

          • DSGKing

Murtagh isn’t good or evil, he’s never been either. His character is basically a decent man with numerous serious flaws. In Eragon he had no problem beheading a defenseless man because he did not wish to think of something better(albeit harder) to do. The parallels and differences between Murtagh and Eragon, and through them Saphira and Thorn, have been obvious since page 1. Murtagh will put no one above himself and his dragon, and that’s why even if he breaks free of Galby, he’s doomed. He will either die in this book, or become the “shadow” talked about in the Guide. He can’t let go of his hate, he can’t be bothered to fight despite the apparent inevitable, and he relishes power, no matter what form(beheading, killing Hrothgar, besting Eragon). He’s not on Galby’s side, but he’ll never be on Eragon’s either.

      • THEJOKER

Has Christopher CONFIRMED that Murtagh killed Hrothgar by himself with NO orders from Darth Galbatorix (Supreme Emperor of the Galaxy of Alagaesia)? NO HE HASN”T. That aside please read my post way up, I want Eragon and Arya to fall in love, be corrupted by Galby’s influence over magic, they kill him and (along with Murty) start a new generation of evil Riders with them at the head, over the entire land. Murtagh is not however (yet), Darth Vader, enjoing his evil (yet).

    • Petrik

ok, when I think about it more, my theory has some holes…
CP said there will be more of Murthag and Thorn in book IV, so I would
expect them to live through most of the book (die close to the end, in
the final battle most probably). but I believe it is a safe bet that
green dragon will hatch at the beggining or at least in the 1st half of
the book – if he is to play any significant role in the book (which we
all believe he is), he will need some time to grow up and get proper
      training with his rider.
so the result – murthag and thorn won´t be killed during their attempt
to steal the green egg. it will either be stolen by somebody else, or
they will succeed in stealing the egg AND survive it.

    • Anonymous

errrm theres two weeks left because theres only TWO big 20 articles, thats why were on number 18 now….. it started 20 weeks from the release date, 1 each week!

      • Emeric

Yeah, but at least two of those weeks didn’t have any big twenty articles.

        • Anonymous

mike sorted it out n made up for lost time somewhere, thats why were on 18 n theres only two weeks left.

          • Coasterking

so is one still coming out today?

          • Anonymous

          • Matt S

I believe he is talking about the big twenty articles. Not the podcast.

    Eragon.  Definitely Eragon.

  • Marty N

for me…Eragon and Murtagh. I hope Eragon and Arya get together somehow. I hope that Murtagh frees himself. but I don’t think Thorn will. I belive that thorn will die, and since Galbatorix has Thorn’s Eldunari, Thorn and Murtagh will become Indelvarn. Rider survives and Dragon survives as a eldunari.

  • Hopesy97

Well… lemme tell you. Murtagh’s dragon, Thorn, will die. Galbatorix will grow bored with Murtagh as he has no purpose to him anymore. Murtagh will join Eragon. Greeni will then be born to Murtagh. This will infuriate Galby so much that he will, in a fit of rage, give up on magical attacks and just try to strike Murtagh and Eragon down with Physical Attacks. Murtagh and Eragon will slap a bitch all over the place in an epic battle of epic proportions. Book Complete.

    • nlilli nlilli

Galbatorix may be mad, but he isn’t stupid. He wouldn’t go: “Well, all right Murtagh, Thorn’s dead, so you can go run off to the Varden with all my deepest, evil secrets. Say hi to Nasuada for me.” He’d probably either just kill him or keep him like a Durza 2.0.

      • Me

ha ha. Durza 2.0. It’s like a weird Alagaesian web browser. “NOW with networking capabilities.”

  • Arya Dröttningu

    Eragon’s side!!!

  • Harry Quacker

Thorn will die which will change Murtagh’s name. Then Greeni will hatch for him and he will fight with Eragon

    • Denmark111

That is outrageous! The strange thing is that it sounds possible. Almost likely. What a curve-ball that would be.

    • Anonymous

nasuada would never allow for murtagh to fight with the varden.

      • James Winters

I think he is referring to Thorn dying near the end and Murtagh doing a Vader. Hardly going to let something that dramatic happen midway through were there is time for the Varde n to discuss the issue.

    • Daniela

wow :O great theory! It has never even crossed my mind. I want to hold the book in my hands right now!

  • Argetlampuppeh

Can both of them win? Maybe Nasuada can just lose and die instead?

    • Argetlampuppeh

For the record though, Murtagh would be my choice if we can have only one winner
