I have a theory about Angela. Maybe she is a part of the secretive sect called the Arcaena which has endured for hundreds of years, who have dedicated themselves to collecting every piece of information in the world. This would explain why Angela always wants to be around when things are going on. And perhaps Tenga was her master in the Arcaena. Angela does metion that he is always looking for answers to different questions.

    • Fairth

I like this idea, but I would add one more thing to it.  What if the Arcaena are descendants of the Gray Folk?

      • Madeline L

        That could be too.

    • i was thinking the same thing

    wheres the sixteenth podcast???!!

  • MW

Despite everyone saying that Chris is just hating, methinks Nasuada should die, cuz whats for her after the Varden? Her entire life’s been dedicated to the organization, unless she finds another outlet I think that she would end up doing nothing, something that she can’t tolerate.

    • EternalShade

Lol hmmm im bored, guess i should just die because according to MW i will never find a hobby after the Varden… Im all for killing Nasuada off but to do it just cause she “wont have anything better to do” isnt a very good reason.

i got a leaked manuscript …murtagh and arya die in the final book 🙁

      OH MY GOD H

      • guest

        ahaa it was 😛

  • The combination of Chris + Bob is very amusing to me while Lauren and Mike lament over the misdirection. The perfect chemistry seems to be formed when all four of you are together in my opinion. =)

    • Sorry, no Bob in episode 16!

(Well, maybe there is, you’ll have to listen to see…)

  • JustPlainEric

Nothing in a book is ever a coincidence, EVERYTHING has meaning.

  • War Rider

I hope you have more episodes with Bob, he’s the one who makes me laugh alot. You can go without Chris, all he does is wish people he hates dead.

    • EternalShade

      That was mean…

      • Coasterking

your mean war rider is so right

    • Anonymous

Yeah, that was mean. I think we could go without you and your crankiness.

    • It’s good that Chris voices his opinion. I mean, since Mike has gone over to the dark side, Chris is the only person on the podcast that still openly opposes Nasuada. We need a variety of opinions on this podcast, otherwise there is nobody to challenge the theories and everyone will be agreeing with each other, which would be horrible.

Bob is hilarious, don’t get me wrong, but he’s a bit too quiet, and doesn’t offer many new points of view. Besides, how can you not like that sexy accent?

    • Well I think Murtagh will die, and I like him!  I just don’t want Nasuada to have a chance to rule Alagaesia when the war is over.  Obviously, dying would be the best fix for this!

      • I really want to know your justification for hating N so much. And I know you southerners can do that just as well as we can up here in the north, so please let us know why you want her to die. Maybe when we get to The Whipping Post?

      • I really want to know your justification for hating N so much. And I know you southerners can do that just as well as we can up here in the north, so please let us know why you want her to die. Maybe when we get to The Whipping Post?

        • Fairth

I think Chris has said before.  I think it was because he didn’t want to have the chance of  Nasuada being the leader of kingdom that follows the fall of Galby; mainly because she might start making bad laws against magic.  I agree that she shouldn’t for this reason and because I have a few others that I would prefer to claim the crown.

the green dragon egg will definitely hatch for one of the two elven children

    • Lil Uhura

It’s been said many times before that the new Rider is someone who’s been in all 3 previous books.  The children weren’t in Eragon, so that rules them out from being Greenie’s Rider.

      • Anonymous

Ah, but you may be taking that too literally! Think outside the box, maybe they WERE in all 3 books. remember Eragon’s dream? A man and a woman: there could be an appearance of the female rider. eldest: eragon could have seen or simply gotten a glimpse of one the children while in ellesmera, maybe during the blood oath ceremony. And then they were named in Brisingr.
Personally I don’t think that the rider will be one of the elf children. But you have to keep an open mind, just because they were not named in the book doesn’t mean they weren’t there.

        • Knowing CP as the creator of the decisive elves we know and love today, we know he plays word games. He doesn’t technically lie, he just says it in a way you wouldn’t expect. So it probably is someone who we don’t expect.

          But I still think it’s Arya =)

Hey guys, I was wondering if we could get any kind of update on a timetable for the second half on the interview… I know you admins hate getting these questions and I understand that the main point of the delay was to increase anticipation, but it comes to a point where after a few weeks, “coming soon” loses its value. Any chance on an update?? Thanks guys.

    • I have no idea about the interview….but I do know that there’s a rumor that there’s an unconfirmed report that episode 16 may or may not be recording at this moment.

I’d just like to respond to the “Arya is already a Rider” theory that I’ve seen pop up on here a few times. These are just what I think. These points were taken from the link marcosfong supplied.

-Arya has green magic (a Rider’s magic usually matches his/her dragon’s color)
Yes, but that doesn’t mean that she is a rider, nor does it mean she has to be the rider. If a human or elf became a rider, the bond would usually change the color of the spellcaster’s magic. Ex) An elf has red magic. A green dragon hatches for him, and his magic is probably going to be green now. While the green magic could be foreshadowing, it isn’t proof that Arya will be the rider.

-Arya is extraordinarily skilled in combat and magic (even among the elves)
She was trained by Oromis in order to better protect Saphira’s egg,

-Saphira has an instinctual affection for Arya
This could be affected by a few things, such as a) Eragon’s feelings for Arya, b) Saphira’s reaction of dealing with an elf- another magical being, c) Arya has earned her trust and affection by saving her egg, and through her actions later with the Varden.

-Arya is usually very depressed/moody (possible effect of being away from your dragon for a year+)
While we’ve seen that it is difficult to be away from your dragon in Brisingr with Eragon and Saphira, I think that it would be much more for such an extended period of time. She ferried Saphira’s egg back and forth between the elves and the Varden for quite some time. I forget exactly how long, was it 15 years? Arya would have spent years away from Greeni, and that would do more than make her moody. Also, if they’re always apart, how close can their bond be? We don’t need a rider and dragon that are just “sorta bonded”.
And would the dragon simply stay hidden wherever he is when Arya was captured and tortured? I would think that he would try to save her.

-Arya knows how to drain energy from her surroundings (magic stated by Oromis to be taught to Riders only)
Oromis taught her. CP said so.
-CP has stated that she is more extensively trained in magic than even Eragon (presumably by Oromis
she got it in order to better protect Saphira’s egg.

keep rob on the show!!!! 🙂

    • I’ve called him bob for 8 years.  I was like “who is this rob guy?” lol

  • Jschoey17

My SOOPER DOOPER FAR FETCHED THEORY. Eragon will some how find Bid’aum (Brom’s lost sword) and with the whole Inheritance title, will take up Bid’aum and learn to fight with two swords at once. It’s fairly easy to say this wont happen but it’s still awesome to think about it.

    • Brom’s lost sword is actually named undbitr (he hasn’t told us what that means in the ancient language…yet).  Bid’aum is a dragon name.

      • Samuel

        i think its Bid’daum

No its not. Chris was right

“A frown pinched Rhunön’s eyebrows together. ‘Undbitr? Why would you think of Brom’s blade?'”

        • Corey

pg 649 paragraph uhh 6 or something says its undbitr

  • XxxX

Hey guys if CP gets to have his moment. I feel that Mike here does too.
I know that CP writes the series, but in some ways I feel like Mike has the harder job of tending to the masses. He gets all the hate, he follows Christopher around on book tours, he’s always updating things for us, and he’s always been  a hardcore fan of Inheritance. No matter how much I visit this site, I can never consider to be placed at the level of fandom Mike has been placed at.
So for that, I salute you Mike, and I hope I am speaking for the whole Inheritance Community.

  • guest

can riders bond with two dragons at once?

    • No

      • XxxX

Hey Chris, dragons can do mysterious things. What you think just because your the master of all the interviews and on Shurtugal.com that suddenly you can start making all the calls! 😉
Though I do remember that from the interviews

        • Well, if you knew that it was from the interview, and I am “the master of the interviews,” wouldn’t you think I can make that call?  What was the point of this post?

          • Coasterking

            no

    • Anonymous

Well yeah but if that happened to Eragon, then the Saphira and the green dragon would mate and Eragon would love himself….dear god he’d become a narcissist! It would be like “I’m a prince!” all the time

      • Corey

This isn’t related to the podcast, but I didn’t know where else to ask: why does Solembum deliberately avoid explaining things like the Menoa Tree and the Vault of Souls? Does Solembum hold back information just for the sake of being difficult and mysterious? Characters need logical reasons and motives for their actions.

    • bigmike

he is a werecat. Its as simple as that. they like riddles and being mysterious. Plain and simple. And what more reason to hold back info then it being nature to hide info behind riddles?

I finally managed to catch up with you guys… =S Excited to the next podcast now.. And btw, how pissed were you Chris when you found out that Bob kinda threw the DW opening sequence song between the spoiler section and the discussion one? hahahaha XD
I totally loved this episode. And the discussion about whether Arya knew or not the techniques that Oromis taught Eragon to draw energy from living things.. it’s just a thought I’d like to share: while listening to you guys discussing, I remembered a guy from the comments here on shurty that had an INCREDIBLE theory about Arya. It was a complicated, far-fetched theory, yet he claimed it to be highly possible and his arguments always managed to convince me (he actually posted his theory in a particular blog, but i’ve lost the link) anyway, it was about Arya being ALREADY a Rider. He said that there were loads of evidences that Greenie had already hatched for Arya and that he was hidden somewhere… I won’t explain the whole theory, hopefully, someone who reads my comment will remember the link and if so, then please post below XD (cos his theory actually triggered an enormous discussion here) .. The thing is that the fact that Arya knows the spell to draw energy from plants could be one more hint to the fact that she’s already a Rider, considering that this technique is only taught to those who have finished the highest levels of the training…
But anyway, it could be just like what Lauren said.. everybody knows that Arya is a powerful magician and that she knows a lot of the AL.. it could be that in a moment of deep thought, as if she was trying to solve a puzzle, she simply found the correct words in the ancient language to cast the right spell…
Plus, I don’t think it’s that complicated.. I mean it seems simpler than the awful and dangerous process that Eragon used to alleviate Elva’s curse. I think that Arya, being a rider or not, would easily manage to do that…

    • ItsEminem

Arya was trained by Oromis in preparation for her duties as egg courier. That is why she knows. CP said that there are no more hidden riders. Greenie would first have to be stolen from Galby… and I don’t see that happening after the Saphira fiasco.

      • Anonymous

well as for your argument regarding the theory about Arya being already a Rider, I can’t say anything since I’m not the one who came up with the theory (but believe me, the guy has an answer for every question, LOL there are over 700 comments on his page where he answers those kinda of stuff, I think it’d be pretty awesome if he were right, but I dunno) but anyway, it’s most likely Oromis taught those things to her in order to protect the Saphira’s egg, I agree…

  • Anchal Jain

Mike, you were in Arizona last week? 100+ degrees is a bit hotter than what you are used to, huh? 😀

  • Quick, someone needs to make a nifty death to nasuada poster…Kinda like the propoganda posters we wanted for the varden, but obviously it’s like from the other side of the war.

  • Ashley A

Oh my gosh! You guys were HILARIOUS on this podcast! I’d have to say it was one of the best ones yet, lol! 😀

  • Anonymous

Saturday, I went to visit my grandpa at his ranch and he offered to cook me a piece of an iguana. I never would have done this before but when I read Brisingr I was curious to know how it tasted. So I took a piece and seriously, it wasn’t half bad!

    • Lots of people eat them! Although, I’ll probably stick with bacon and beef. And pork and chicken..and anything else.

  • Mal

Hey guys, I just heard the podcast for the first time today, and I don’t know if the topic was addressed earlier in the comments or not, but I have an idea as to why Arya would have the ability to do the whole floating boat thinger. She ferried Saphira’s egg from Duweldenvarden to the Varden, it makes sense to me that she would know special techniques to protect the egg.

    Ps- I LOVE this podcast:)

  • Logic Lawyer

The most likely explanation is that Arya knows the deep secret of drawing energy from other living things. I remember an interview with CP where he confirmed that she had trained with Oromis at some point, and it makes sense that he would teach such a secret to her, as she was the princess, the ambassador, and a major warrior and magician.

I applaud Chris. Even when Mike has been seduced by the evil Dark Side and actually defends Nasuada, Chris still possesses the wisdom to see the costs and damages that Nasuada is doing. And actually, I seriously agree with his point. Nasuada has been wasting a lot of money, lately. Undermining the weavers guild and thus the economy of Surda, giving Roran and Katrina a huge dowry of valuables when she has a war to fight, and then wasting even more funds feasting Eragon.

Nasuada really is economically incompetent. If it weren’t for all the lace money, the Varden wold surely be bankrupt by now, with her at the helm.

Chris needs to talk more. He always has much wisdom to espouse when he does, much more so than everyone else.

    • Anonymous

Um well not to put words in anyone’s mouth, but I think Chris may have been joking about the cost of putting together a feast for Eragon. It’s not THAT much for one night. I mean, like she said to Katrina, even the dowry was small small amount compared to the vast sums needed to fund the Varden. But don’t misunderstand me, I hate Nasuada! D2N!!!(death to nasuada)

go back to the imperial march on vibes

  • bigmike

There was something that I was wondering when I first read the Eldest during the battle of the burning plains. When Eragon drew the energy from the dieing horse, it hit me. “Why doesnt he draw all of the energy out of the bodies of the opponents whose minds he has gained access to, there for killing them and replinishing his own energy stores. Even if it was something to do with morals, he is in the middle of a battle and he had already killed countless in the last ten minutes,so why would draining energy, that might mean his own survival, from soldiers that he would have killed with one of the death words and using it to substain himself. Its something I would do if I was in the middle of a battle where every disadvantage can kill you and every advantage could mean that you survive. If you are going to kill them, use every resource you can get from them that will help you survive. It would have helped keep him  from getting so exhausted and worn out before the battle ended. Sorry its so long but I have been thinking about this since I first read Eldest all those  years ago.

    • I think it’s just because he’s a moron.  Hopefully he’ll realize that he needs to do that for the greater good in Inheritance.

Most people down here have really strong opinions and just say what is on our minds.lol

    • Anonymous

Oh my god, yes! I thought that too, and I’ve been saying that on here forever!!!!!! I even emailed it in to the podcast back when we were reading about the battle in Eldest, but they didn’t say anything

“Why doesn’t Eragon take energy from Empire soldiers
during the battle? After he kills the magician guarding them, why not
reach into the soldiers minds and absorb energy from them before
killing them? If he takes enough, they’ll die, so it’s like killing two
birds with one stone: Eragon and Saphira are revitalized and enemy
      soldiers are killed/weakened!”

While some may argue that it takes more time to do this, Eragon would still have to take the time to drain energy from the horse, so he might as well do it WHILE killing soldiers.

      • bigmike

Thank you!!!!!! If you are able to defeat your opponent while actully gaining energy instead of losing it, DO IT!!!!!!!!!!! I dont care if it might seem wrong. If it keeps me alive when one little lapse in attention, because im tired, is enough to get me killed, Im doing it without a second thought. It one of those “Duh!!!” moments to me. But Im big on hunting so it probably wont bother me as much as other people.

        • Anonymous

I really don’t think that Eragon would have a problem with the morals, it’s killing soldiers while energizing yourself. But maybe the mental strain of dying over and Orr again, since he has to be in the mind of the soldier to do it. So it might be that, but it really would be sooooo smart to do in battle

    • Coulda been a lot of reasons, but I think about it too whenever I read battle scenes. Just wondering… add that to the list? I mean the CP questions list.

I think that the knowledge of how to create magic that uses energy from life nearby to sustain it would lead some people to thoughts about how they could draw from their surroundings into themselves.  I could see how the two could be distinct aspects of magic, but the very ability to know about one would lead to the idea of the other with only a little thought.  Once you have that, it’s only the matter of some work to find method to the other.

As for how Arya could know about the ability, I could of sworn that Arya had been taught by Oromis in the past.  Anybody know where that is in the books?

Something else to note:  Gannel made a silver hammer necklace for Eragon that protected Eragon and Saphira from being scryed by drawing on Eragons’ energy.
And if knowing one energy-drawing skill all but precludes the knowledge of the other, then how did Gannel know about the first?  Is it because he’s the leader of priest tribe?

    • I think I explained this further down on the comments. Or at least, clarified it somewhat.

      • Fairth

Duly noted.  I typed this before I hit reload on the page, so there were several hours of posts that I didn’t see (I loaded the page in the afternoon, but posted late at night).

      • Fairth

Almost forgot, my questions about Gannel and the silver hammer is still valid.  Do you (or anyone else) have anything to say about that?

    • guest

but Arya still shot that bird when she and Eragon travelled to du weldenvarden so Oromis could (maybe) have not told her but Eragon yet had to learn this trick so it would give maybe make Oromis mad when Eragon will tell him

  • Ctemgem

OMFG!!! I know how galby dies, from mad rabbits 😉 who agrees

  • hick_and_proud

Go Chris! Lay off of him guys! He’s my favorite and it’s not because I’m also from Arkansas….Go Hogs Go! Also… I have a theory about the book Jeod gives Eragon. I think that there is a obscure or maybe not so obscure reference about the vault of souls in it and Eargon discovers where it is/what it is in the book.

    • Loving the name 😀

I’m also quite surprised at the fact that Eragon hasn’t asked Jeod about the RoK/VoS (but please correct me if he has). Remember that Jeod is a scholar (or bibliophile as he now prefers) and has read many texts, scrolls and books, in his time, including Domia Abr Wyrda (the book he gave to Eragon). It just strikes me as rather odd that he hasn’t yet asked such an educated person who, in my opinion anyway, is quite obvious, seeing how it’s predicted it’s gonna save his life and all. Kinda like in How I Met Your Mother – “Aww, well it’s gonna save my life some day, but let future me figure this out.” 😀

      • Anonymous

I dunno.. maybe it has to do with Eragon and him alone. I mean.. different people understand a book/text/whatever in different ways. According to your life experiences, a lot can change. Two interpretations can differ that much, each one has its own way to look onto things, you know what i mean? Perhaps there’s something in that book which only Eragon would understand in the right way, leading him to some tip and whatnot..

    • hick_and_proud

My other theory is that the rock of Kutheian (sp?) is Broms ring and the vault of souls is all the energy inside it. If that’s an old worn out theory then I’m sorry….I’m kinda new to the series.

    • Anonymous

But do you think that Oromis hasn’t read Domia Abr Wyrda? Eragon does ask him about both the RoK and VoS, and one only stikes a faint chord in his memory. I think that if anyone would know, it would be the ancient Dragon Rider/elf who was alive before the Fall.

Eureka, Montana, oh yeah! try and find it.

  • Frankbaney

I’ve herd you guys talk about the different covers of the inheritance cycle and the language translations and stuff I wonder what the hick cover and translation looks like?

    • We actually can’t read in the south, so it’s all pictures.  Pretty much every book is like eragon’s guide to alagaesia, just with no words!

      • yeah, can’t have black and white either, otherwise they get bored bored ‘n’ stuff… Just imagining Cleetus from The Simpson haha… “Hey Brandine! Look at all dem purty pictures!”

yeah another theory thought I had…

Someone in the comments of an article on Shur’tugal (maybe the episode 13 update?) comment that Christopher Paolini has stated that when an Eldurnari’s energy is all used up, the dragon dies. So, if that’s true, how do we know Galbatorix has hoards of them? He most likely wouldn’t use up all the energy in an Eldurnari because they’re the source of his power, but if he has done it on accident, than there may be many Eldurnari that are already lost. Also, do we know if the wild dragons moved their cache of Eldurnari from the mountain Du Fells Nangoroth to the cache on Vroengard? If not, then my theory is that Galbatorix accidentally killed off many Eldurnari and is now occupied with discerning the location of the wild dragons’ Eldurnaris.

How do you accidentally use all of the energy of hundreds of dragons without noticing it? What was he doing, playing chess with the Beor Mountains?

      …wait…

OH! well maybe if he did that trying to bring “someone” back to life….that probably could have killed some Eldunari before Galby stopped it…you might be on to something!

Hicks can be smart to! Just look at Uncle Jesse L. Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard. He is as hick as you can get, but he is wise for even his old age. By the way Chris, Uncle Jesse would be proud of that sign off.

  • (Don’t worry this is my last comment today) I had a crazy dream of Angela that lead to some thoughts I had about her. I dreamed she was playing piano and singing Your Love is my Drug by Ke$ha. There were tears rolling down here eyes. Eragon was there feeling sort of embarrassed, like she’d just told him about her past. I thought, what if Angela lost a loved one? It doesn’t have to be a romantic thing, it could’ve been a dragon. It also seems that she lost someone mentally connected to her, so I thought maybe.

    • WTF? I think you need a different set of pills to take. Or you have some strange goin’ on.

      • Irock13198

        hahahahahhaha

      • LOL I know, my dreams are crazy. Aside from the ridiculous fact that Angela the Herbalist was singing Ke$ha, I honestly did think she might have lost someone.

My grandpa had a huge rabbit with blood red eyes. He was a mean M Fer and started kicking the cage every time someone came near…… He tasted pretty good though.lol

      • :O lol mad rabbit! You’re lucky you didn’t die.

        • bigmike

Please. Dont insult us. A 22 between the eyes was more then a match for him. But if I had to kill him the old fashion way with a knife….. maybe.lol

  • So far, Eragon has had a long conversation around a campfire with both Roran and Arya. I really hope at some point there’s another conversation like this with someone else, hopefully Murtagh, in Inheritance (and I just remembered that he also did this with Garzhvog).

By the way Lauren I’d been hearing your bird for like the entire podcast and kept thinking oh my god WHO IS WHISTLING xD

    • Mortiz1

Me to I thought someone was trying to mess with me.

“Eragon needs to bite his tongue and Arya…needs to stop being so damn harsh.”

    Ahahahaha. The best.

  • I just wanted to say something completely random. I loved the part when Arya tells of the soldier who leaves a rose for her. A small kindness like that could make a huge difference, and for a soldier it can be very rare to show any kindness to your prisoners (my father is a lieutenant and I know he’d never even have the time to). Even as a boy I thought it was extremely sweet and beautiful.

  • FYI: 35 days.

  • Here is what Oromis said about that sort of magic that is mentioned since you guys and girl is confused on why Arya would know how to take energy and transfer it. So, here’s my take on it. (pg 541. Eldest. ch “Visions Near and Far”) “You see why this technique was not taught to younger riders. If it were to become known to a spellweaver of evil disposition, he or she could wreak vast amounts of destruction, especially since it would be difficult to stop anywone with access to that much power.”

Since Galbatorix was considered a young rider when he went nut-so, it wasn’t taught to him. Which is why Oromis told Eragon that it was a secret for a young, inexperianced rider not to know. Even though Eragon is young, he as matured enough and completed the vast majority of his Rider Training to not be tempted as Galbatorix would have been in his younger years.

With Arya, she is very experianced with magic and is not of an “evil dispositon”–that’s very clear through reading the books. Oromis also included “spellweavers” which would also include Arya with her extended uses of magic. It would also be benificial for her when she was Saphira’s caretaker to know that sort of knowledge and be mature enough to use it when needed. Therefore, it would not have been that big of a leap when she made that “sailing ship”. Instead of transfering that energy to herself, it went to the ship to keep it “sailing”.

    • Hrmm, thanks for that, clears up a few things 😀

Just for clarification, is this similar to what the Eldunari do, or is it totally different?

      • I suppose so, since the Eldunari is transfering energy to another person or another person transfers energy into the Eldunari. However later in Brisingr, Oromis says that the only way to “kill” or “release” the dragon spirit in the Eldunari is the smash or break it somehow. Oromis never says anything about taking all of the Eldunari’s energy whether or not that would “kill” the dragon spirit inside. However I should also say that niether he nor the dragon’s know where they get their energy to sustain themselves in the Eldunari.

This is a matter of transfering energy. Plain and simple. I suppose the moral is that no matter the source (life, a stone, an Eldunari, ect), as long as the energy is supplied the spell will continue unless it is stoped by the spellcaster or it kills him/her.

What also matters is the morals of the culture/race. Transfering/taking energy via a stone like a diamond is no big deal because you can’t kill a stone. People you most certainly can kill if done incorrectly or with bad intentions (therefore taught later on). the Eldunari is super-secert that evern fewer are told of it.

What happened to the King of Cats enticed titles we gave yal. I still say that their should have made a name tag with them on it and that yal should have gotten together and taken a Shurtugal group picture. Cause some of the titles we came up with were pretty awesome.  🙂

There was too much “awesome” with all four of us. It created what I like to refer to as a “BLACK HOLE OF CRAZY AWESOME”.

      Sorry.

Well if my knowledge serves me well Oromis trained Arya before Eragon in her earlier years. That is probably why she knows how to use the energy of the plants around her. Plus just to confirm this isn’t all in my head the wiki website for Eragon under Arya’s profile:

Arya was very highly trained in magic and swordplay by Oromis during her first thirty years, until she was strong enough to guard Saphira’s egg

    • daniel

when did arya say that she was trained by oromis? I think it is very likely that oromis (among others) did train arya, but i dont remember it being said in the books. and wiki isn’t always a reliable source.

      • GregB

No, C.P. said in an interview that Arya would have received special training so she could protect Saphira’s egg.

      • Mohamad

From the interview at the commic con:
        http://shurtugal.com/2010/08/27/comic-con-interview-with-christopher-paolini-part-2/

M: Well that was easy. When Oromis taught Eragon how to draw energy from the surroundings to make spells, he said that this “was a secret for the Riders”. However, the boat made of grass by Arya draws energy from the surroundings to fly. How did she know a spell reserved for Riders?

C: Arya is a special case; she was given guardianship over Saphira’s egg for almost twenty years and I think she would have been—I think Oromis would have taught her this to help her protect Saphira’s egg. I mean, there was no playing around here; this was do-or-die with Saphira protecting her egg and everything and that’s something he would have taught her.

M: Now can you say how much training she would have received from Oromis?C: I think Arya has a level of training far exceeding Eragon’s quite honestly, mainly because she has had far more time to learn and just the fact that she grew up with the ancient language means that she is always going to be more facile and fluent with it than Eragon and more adept at thinking up interesting ways of using the ancient language and thus spells. I would not want to be on her bad side, let’s put it that way

M: Yeah, I think she’s shown that at a few points now. She does not seem like she is a good person to mess with.

        • Haha, of course we wouldn’t remember something from one of our own interviews…

Ascudgamln isn’t that hard to pronounce Mike. I think this is a good time to suggest having foreign correspondants for the languages, and since dwarves seem to traditionally sound Scottish, i volunteer 😛

Also, i’ve always been a bit skeptical that the ability to drain energy from other living things is a massive secret kept by the riders, mainly because it seems like common sense to me; it actually surprised me when i first read the book that it was specifically pointed out in the way it was.
