How to Contact Christopher: A Fan Mail Guide

We receive many questions as to how fans can contact Christopher. As a general reminder, Christopher does not visit or participate in comments or message boards on any fan site, with the exception of his official Twitter and Facebook pages, and personal website.

The best way to reach Christopher is through his official fan mail address:

Christopher Paolini
P.O. Box 343
Livingston, MT 59047
USA

He loves hearing from his readers and tries to answer every letter he receives, but it may take a few months due to his schedule. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Due to time constraints, Christopher may not be able to answer all your questions, so include only your most important ones.
  • He regrets that he cannot read your manuscripts or offer personal advice on your writing projects.
  • If possible, enclose a stamped, self-addressed, business-size envelope.
  • Make sure your name and return address are written clearly on the letter. Christopher can’t send you a reply if there’s no return address or one that’s illegible.
  • Secret xD

      lol

  • descro

Josiah, I agree with you completely. Mike & everyone at shurtugal do their best to bring everyone news. Oh, and uhh, people who complain about news of a book 5 come on. It’s not like it’s another book in the Inheritance cycle. It is a prequal. Jeez. Comes before the Inheritance cycle. Whatever. They’ll probably find something else to complain about. Josiah nice touch with you’re parting. Shows you are a Christopher Paolini fan.

  • Evansshawn98

what about the dream eragon had about him seeing a person in a alley and hearing someone singing?

    • descro

      When did that happen?

  • Anonymous

  • The_White_Rider

Hey Mike, I was just wondering if there will be another interview with CP soon, and if not, if there’s anything interesting coming up for Shurtugal. Not being impatient, just asking the question to help pass some time as we wait for news from Christopher.

    • There’s a post coming at 11:01am today! Not huge news but it’s a fun read while we wait.

As for an interview… I have one in the works but it may not be here for a while. Christopher is very busy with Book 4 and I’m very busy with a number of projects. The interviews require a lot of time and coordination, so the timing has to be right for both teams. I’ll keep you guys posted.

      • The_White_Rider

Thanks Mike. As always, your updates are much appreciated.

  • Spacechick055

    Almost a month without any news… 🙁

    • That will be changing! I’ve been busy working on other projects as well as traveling and recently was down and out for a week due to the flu. I have some fun things planned. Stay tuned!

  • Bibi

    no more updates? 🙂

  • Matt

    Hi forum and mike

it is the 16th of Feb now and we have not had a new post in about 19 days
people follow the website but it does not help if there no new posts, and updates about lytherus don’t count.

make no mistake it’s a great website and a good series, but please even a weekly post is better than nothing.

    • It’s tough to post news when there’s no news to post!

  • lucius91

far out 3 weeks old post and nothing new

  • Jjwrightt

well i hope you post this in one of your interviews some guy claiming to be christopher paolini says the release is march-1-2011

  • Jjwrightt

well i hope you post this in one of your interviews some guy claiming to be christopher paolini says the release is march-1-2011

    • This information is false. The book is not releasing on March 1st.

  • Matthewbrown2

When will the last book in the inheritance series come out

  • Sky

could you send in eragon eldest or brisingr to one of these addresses and get your book singed without having to buy a new one just to get it singed?

  • Hanskask

Any recent inferior news? SOMETHING?? i wouldn’t care if they were chuck norris jokes, just post something!

    • lennyuji

Well, if you are looking for bad jokes, how about this one:
      Roses are red,
      Violets are blue,
      I’ve got a knife,
      So get in the van

      Love the site Mike!

  • Pvb101

Hey guys dont be discouraged by the lck of news, we can all always get high while waiting, it always makes the time go much faster.

  • Kithsahan

lets all hope that CP had a great valentines day!!!

  • Evansshawn98

what website will be the very 1st to announce the release of book four?

    • kensilver

      shurtugal.com and alagaesia.com i would assume

      • Kaylalynn 10

Or maybe the Random house website….

    • Julian

it will be announced at a press conference, so I would guess twitter, followed by shurugal and random house

      • I doubt the release date will be announced at an actual press conference. It’s more likely that it will be announced through a highly coordinated press release, timed to release across all the websites at the same time.

  • Vaughanjonathan1

the new riders name is kvetha if you read the giude and eragon isnt there at the moment

  • Serious

You know the excerpt for brisingr was released two years before it was released? Sorry if that wasn’t clear-
A deluxe version of Eldest called the “Limited Edition” was released on September 26, 2006. It was published by Random House. The deluxe edition included an excerpt of Brisingr.
Brisingr was released on September 20, 2008.
The excerpt for the 4th book was released May of last year (thanks, new writer). I hope we don’t have to wait much longer. If we stick with this, that means we have 3 months and a year left to go, approx, give or take a couple of months cause it isn’t really reliable information.
Random musings. I just want to see the book out and am squandering my time on predictions in the meantime. I really want to see it out by the end of this year, although what i want is hardly going to affect anything 🙂

    • Jahooty**

yes however it will probably be around september because i have never really seen a first edition of an inheritance book released in the spring

    • New Writer

      Yep-yep, I have your back! 😉
While C.P. takes his time finishing Book IV, I delve right into my own series lol. 😀

      • Anonymous

Weren’t you New Writer before? When did you become Agree?

        • Anonymous

Im Serious by a different name, btw. I scrapped the name Serious :), so im really no one to ask…

          • Serious

            i could’ve sworn…never mind. I wish i could delete the previous comments.

          • New Writer

Lol! There were a couple of times when I posted as another person (I’m trying to see where I posed as “Agree”), but I am New Writer haha. 😉

  • Aladora

If I could ever go in Alagaesia, I would not only enjoy the scenery and such… but also showing everyone our retarded ways, like surprise trust falls and such. Surprise trust falls on random army people, HELL YES!

*Walking around corner* Hi Roran! TRUST FALL!

  • Mr. Apollo

I wanted to know if Shurtugal was going to do another monthly interview with CP, where do i leave my questions for him, i think i have some good ones!

    • Mr. Apollo

      BTW, they are:
      1. Will Cristopher ever consider doing another moive with one of his books, or better yet, redo Eragon and see where it goes from there?
2.Can’t a powerful majican (Arya for example) capture and control or even befriend a large beast such as a Nagra, Shrrg, Vargrimst, or even a Fanghur and use said beast to atleast help Eragon in defeating Galbortrax. I know it sounds crazy but if enough majicians help i am sure it could be done.

      • Corey

i was thinking the same thing eragon could probably invade its mind then maybe make it swear in the ancient language to help the varden… but knowing eragon he wouldnt do that. Maybe galbatorix or murtagh would.

        • Shanari

Eragon or Arya could probably dominate any animals’ mind, however animals, while they can recognize the truth of the ancient language, don’t actually speak (or think) it. If someone dominated an animal’s mind, it would probably take a lot of time and concentration to continually control the animal.

  • Mr. Apollo

  • Hi Mike, how are you?
I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but if you haven’t, here [ http://elmundodealagaesia.blogspot.com/2011/01/inheritance-almanac-en-espanol.html ] you can find the Spanish cover art for your book, The Inheritance Almanac (click to expand).

The translation of the book will be released in Spanish (at least in Spain) on March, 7th, 2011.

    Greetings from Latin America,
    Klaus & Angie,

I think more people complain about hater comments than there are people who leave hater comments. Slow you’re role.

  • DAVID OSBORN

    Phew…those are ALOT of comments.

Wish people would stop commenting about hater commenter’s comments because that is just stupid since they won’t even be bothered and it just makes the page longer and people get confused what to read or not. (I hate writing this myself after what I just said.)

Anyway, GOOD WORK Mike, Random House and all for the news of Inheritance Cycle!

  • Busquets

Hey Mike, how big will book 4 be?

  • Jenny

    WE NEED THE 4TH BOOK

  • Evansshawn98

i also want to know is it true that cp has named the 4th book before he finished bringr he just hasnt said anything?

    • Anonymous

He has said in a couple of interviews he has named book 4; though he cannot give it out because that is up to Random House to release the name of the book.

  • Evansshawn98

    does cp have a email?

  • Carolina

For the information, I’m only eleven so I’ll probably have to ask mom if I can scream a little letter to him. But I have read Eragon, the oldest and Brisingr two gånnger. they are going well. / / Carolina from Sweden

    • Shanari

You’re a good reader if you can manage those books at age eleven. I started at twelve, I think.

  • Frederikbauch

    Hallo.
Can I cantact Cristopher from erope?
Did he will answer me if i contact him her from Denmark.
If you have a answar plaese send me a mail ([email protected])
    Thanks

    • DidierDrogba

Yes you can contact CP from pretty much anywhere in the world. Just send what you want to the address.

It works from where I’m from (England), should work where you are too.

  • Aladora

Once i’m done moving and get settled, I’m completely going to send him a fan mail! Though, short and to the point is going to be hard for someone whom is ADHD… But i’ll manage it! Maybe it will just sound like my Super fan contest entry, but on paper. (THAT, was short and to the point. I can talk very fast, I managed to fit a 20 minute conversation into 2 minutes. xD

Oh, also, I got six dragons on a game… and named the violet one Thorn… xD The black one, however, was named Onyxia because found it to be a rather epic name. And… you can guess the blue and gold one’s names. 😛

    • Evansshawn98

what game are you talking about?

  • Metfan4eva57

I laugh at people that try to defend Mike, then he shoots them down.

  • FantasyFan

Okay, now that i figured that out, I’d just like to say to all of you who are annoyed at christoper, random house, and mike, etc. that christopher is a wonderful author and i know this because i have read his books, all three, multiple times. He writes intriguing books that balance adventure, friendship, action, romance, comedy, and new ideas so that your never bored and always want to keep reading -that’s why most of you cant wait till the next book comes out. And while your all entitled to your opinions, he does write very quickly, he just writes big books, another thing i like about them. And he does all this while all of you are saying you hate him and/or his books and complain constantly about him, his website, his choices, and his publishers choices. And you know what. IT IS STUPID!!!!!!!Also, his publishers are trained professionals who want as many people as possible to read his books -even if it is just so they can pay their bills. And Mike is the person who runs the website (Correct me if i’m wrong)and makes it so you can express your opinions . He also gives you answers to your questions and put together the Inheritance Almanac. And although i know for a fact your waiting wont be in vain, its still WAITING, so GET OVER IT.

IF YOU DISAGREE ABOUT ANY OF THESE THINGS.
I would be happy to argue with you and would like you to know that Justin Beiber cannot sing 🙂

    • Anonymous

I too believe that CP is a great writer but claiming that he is a good writer just because youve read his book several times, doesnt mean hes a good writer it just means you like his stories

    • Agree

Amen to the Justin Beiber comment! For some reason, Beiber and Twilight go together………

  • FantasyFan

    HELLO.
    It worked!
    cool

  • connan25

they allready have the name of the fourth book its been named since the end of book three why wont they give out the name they are leaving us in the dark on purpose then they bitch when fans get on here and they wont give them any answers they bullshit about it and try to change the subject why cannt they just give us the name

  • fishfaces

‘It will either be fantastic or terrible’

Disagree completely, more likely to be ‘meh’ if anything.

  • Kaylalynn 10

Hey Mike, are all the hater comments “new” to you? Did this disease spread the most for the Book 4 release? Or were the hater comments as bad as this when we were waiting for all the other books?

    • The plague of rude idiots is relatively new, but I’ve been making sure they can’t return so hopefully said plague will subside soon-ish.

      • Josharnold1

        Plague ha ha… that’s funny!

      • Josharnold1

        Plague ha ha… that’s funny!

        • Kaylalynn 10

lol it’s true. Book 4 hater comments are spreading like black death. I don’t blame their impatience, because I am impatient myself, but they can’t control it. The books release won’t save us from the Apocalypse. There shouldn’t be a huge uprising over book 4. There are other stuff more important to worry about.
Book 4 haters get on my nerves a lot. lol

      • Josharnold1

        Plague ha ha… that’s funny!

  • GSarnacki

Love the first 3 books. Just finished reading them all a third time now haha. My question is this; How long do you think it will be from the time the release date is announced until the book comes out…in other words, how much in advance would the book be announced of its release?

    Mike,
Have you ever considered doing a mobile version of the website for smart phones? I currently view the site on my Droid X and just think it would be quicker with a mobile version. Just a suggestion my friend. Keep up the good work!

    regards,
    Luke

    • Yup, it’s on our to-do list (but not insanely high, as we have very few mobile visitors).

    • KingEragon

Yeah I get on the site with my iphone so a mobile version or an app would be much appreciated if you ever get around to it. 🙂

      • Jahooty**

you could make a web app if you have an iphone or ipod touch… im not really sure about other smart phones

        • KingEragon

I have no idea how to do that but I’ll look it up. 🙂 Thanks.

  • sirsimon

I am not really moaning that the book is taking so long, it will be finished when it will be finished.

But I am concerned of the books quality itself. It will either be fantastic or terrible. I just dont want to get the book in September 2011, start reading it, finish reading it, put it down and say, thats it? That is what I waited years for, I have faith in Paolini he will deliver an amazing book, I just hope our waiting isnt in vain.

    • Bdb1349

you just contradicted yourself like 3 times

      • sirsimon

        lol 🙂

I am just saying I hope the wait will worth it

        • Corey

          have faith it will be

      • Sirsimon

Also pondering the notion, once we have read the fourth book, what then?

        • We enjoy that the series is over, move on to other books, and look forward to the possible release of Book 4/spinoffs in the future?

        • We enjoy that the series is over, move on to other books, and look forward to the possible release of Book 4/spinoffs in the future?

        • Bdb1349

well its not as if the eragon books are the only ones in existance, nor the best one for that matter, if you know what your lokking for, they’re are tons of authors who have written books just as good, and better than the inheritence cycle, and the best part is you dont have to wait for them because they are already written =P

  • Infinite_Improbability

    Mike,

I have visited your site on and off since the release of Eldest. I enjoy the series. It may not be the most original or the most well-written, but it is entertaining. The quality reminds me of some of the pulp science fiction stories appearing in the early 20th century—I’ve read some of the stories appearing in magazines/newspapers, and they also weren’t terribly original or well-written, but they provided an outlet for much of the cultural imagination stemming from the dawn of navigable flight. I don’t see many parallels to the Inheritance Series in that respect, but the underlying reason for interest in pulp science fiction in general during that time—to satisfy the imagination in addition to the fulfillment of various emotional needs—is not too dissimilar, in my view, from interest in the Inheritance Series. (Or any story for that matter)

However, I believe passion for the series from its readership is declining, and I believe it is due at least partially to a lack of community. I understand that the comments appearing on the site do not represent by any means the entire readership; yet a recurring topic, concern for the stagnation of Inheritance-related news and a lack of entertaining activities to distract from that fact, seems to suggest that concerns appearing in those comments reflect, at some level, concerns from at least the segment of the readership visiting your site.

Although I do not read all of your responses to said concerns nor do I pretend to know everything that is going on in the Inheritance Forums, those responses that I have read seem to suggest that you do not have the time/resources to carry out activities intended to keep the Inheritance fan base distracted/entertained during the wait for the final book in the series. You have, of course, done what you can given your job and other commitments, but, as it is obvious in the recent extreme comments, a certain restlessness appears to be growing. My question, then, is why do you not enlist more help to keep the fan base occupied? I understand if you do not have the money to hire people, but, given the amount of passion that seems to permeate much of the comments on this site, surely there are those who are willing to volunteer for the site if not for the sake of it then at least for the experience. Doing so may perhaps improve the level of community and redirect the negative energy (reflected in the comments) towards other, more creative ends. I do not know your purpose in creating and maintaining shurtugal.com, but I assume that your reasons stem from a passion for the series and that this website was and is more than just a hub for Inheritance-related news. The Inheritance Forums are great for discussing the series, but I feel as though more creative community activities/involvement would benefit you and the fans who anxiously, and sometimes impatiently, await the conclusion of the series.

I mean to write this comment to offer some constructive criticism—no offense is intended. Also, I recognize that I am not by any means an expert in the management of a website, so please forgive any ignorance or naivety on my part. I simply wish to offer suggestions for the improvement of your website.

    • Not to sound rude, but didn’t you post this a few days ago? I read this when I was traveling and didn’t get around to replying and am now a bit surprised to be seeing it popping up again.

Either way, solid points. I’ll address them eventually, I’m just confined to bed with the flu that I picked up while traveling and wouldn’t be able to do your comments justice.

  • GorillaJunction

If people want to man, they can moan. If you don’t like a comment, you are not forced to. Just accept that not everyone is even convinced that CP will even finish this book.

I personally think it will be a let down. Too long to come out, and no way of it answering all the Qs in a conclusive fashion.

This isn’t a crticism towards you Mike, and I am writing in a ‘civil’ way. I think you’ve done a great job.

Just saying that the moaners,in MY view, have every right to moan.

    • Well as I explained previously, there is a line that people cannot cross on my comments if they wish for their comments and their ability to continue commenting in the future to remain. Contrary to their own popular belief, commenting on Shurtugal is not a right — it’s a privately-owned website, so its rules are made by the owner — it’s a privilege.

And without sounding rude, anyone who thinks CP won’t actually finish Book 4 is a headcase.

      • ekkyklema

To be fair Mike, I am worried by the lack of news concerning the book.

I am not saying this is your fault, and I don’t criticise the site for that.

There are cases of authors giving up, some in a similar talent range (a very high one) to CP.

        • GorillaJunction

‘Contrary to their own popular belief, commenting on Shurtugal is not a right — it’s a privately-owned website’

If a privately owned website has its base in a country where freedom of speech is permitted (the UK, US, most of the world), then surely that site has to adhere to those laws.

          • Mr. Anonymous

You don’t really get the private part…

        • Well I can assure you that there is nothing to worry about. Christopher is hard at work finishing Book 4 and is as excited for us to get our hands on it as we are to read it.

      • GorillaJunction

‘Contrary to their own popular belief, commenting on Shurtugal is not a right — it’s a privately-owned website, so its rules are made by the owner — it’s a privilege.’

If a site has its base in a country where freedom of speech is permitted, like Shurtugal, then surely it has to permit the liberties which society allows. Such as free speech. 🙂

        • Nope, that’s not how it works. Shurtugal is a privately owned website and visitors have to follow the rules of the people who pay for the website — in this case, me. Much like businesses, workplaces, parks, schools, hospitals, etc. have restrictions on what you can say and do, so do we. As it is “private property”, restrictions on what can and cannot be said are able to be enforced.

          • GorillaJunction

I was just asking, by the way, wasn’t trying to offend you or nothing.

        • Glorfindel

Freedom of action and speech, dear boy, does not extend to private property. Just as you don’t have the constitutional right to camp on privately owned land, neither do you have the constitutional right to say what you wish on another’s “land”, in this case, website. Obviously, you won’t be arrested for what you say on here, (although technically speaking if you went far enough it could constitute harassment, in which case you COULD be arrested, I think) but you cannot claim that your rights are being violated when your comment is removed.

        • Mr. Anonymous

Yes, free speech doesn’t goes as far as private property, my friend. Macauley has every right to do what he wants to even if it doesn’t seem fair.

  • Thats_How_Sue_C’s_it_:)

People, commenting is a previlige on this site. Like most other sites you would need to be a member and i never join stuff or give my details out. Like how much less commenting would there be if you had to have a proper membership??? I love the fact i can comment when i want!

so why abuse this privilidge (i know i can’t spell, deal with it :P) by posting ranting comments about how “this is irrelevent” or this “just get book 4 out already!” ?? This freedom is meant to allow even more Eragon fans to post fun theioes, debate and have a laugh? Why do so many of you want to depress the rest of us who are waiting patiently and who are trying to comment constructively. Like poor Mike having to read all of your ranty comments. Mike (and co.) have created something AMAZING here, for us fans. He didn’t have to make this site. It not his fault there is no Eragon news. Like without this site where would we all go to get our news. No offence but aleglaisea.com is crap and always out of date so be gratful you have some news atall!!!

we all can realte with the wait like. We are all experiencing it so why go on about it? you not alone but most of us are fed up with you giving you opinion thinking your the only one (or minority)feeling the “downs”.

Newsflash, your not. Its just not every eragon fan complains about the wait! The wait has allowed me to explore more fanticy, to fill the hole and so without it i wouldn’t have read as much, and would have missed out big time so i am glad of the wait!!!

sorry about my moan… i am just as guilty about moaning now! i hope you’re happy. You have suceeded, again, in bring me down to you level. 😀 enjoy

This is a bit off topic but i read beowulf today for the first time and the name of the king in beowulf is Hrothgar and my teacher was telling us that the word that the word they used for fate is “wyrd” and the ancient language word for fate is “wyrda”. i guess this means that CP is a beowulf fan.

    • Of course, many fantasy authors are. He also bases a large portion of his ancient language on Old Norse.

  • GrastDK

hmm.. to put aside the “when will the book come” questions and go to theories..

how do you guys think eragon gets arya’s heart?
i mean, it IS his big love, and cant think of any other for him then her.

-will she too become a rider? afterall her magic is green like the last egg.
-will she finaly see that she loves him too when she allmost loose him?
-will the magic of love be their weapon against galbatorix and make them able to defeat him?

what do you think mike? what are youre theories?

    btw.
mike i have some issues in useing the “dropdown” menu’s on the new site here, becouse of the space between the boxes.
(found out that by holding down the mousebuttom, im able to use them anyway, but still wanted to tell)

    • This isn’t the place to discuss theories, sorry. We ask that you keep comments in the news post on topic. We have a message board set up for theory discussion — http://www.inheritanceforums.com

As for your drop-down problem — we’ll look into it.

  • New Writer

I would love for C.P. to release a Book IV teaser or some sort of except!!! 🙂

    • Anonymous

He did. Special edition of brisinger has chapter 4 of book 4 in it at the end.

      • New Writer

That’s true, the “King Cat” Chapter…I just wish he would release something else to hype his fans up! 🙂

        • Serious

How many days before the release of Brinsigr was its excerpt (In the Eldest Deluxe Edition, i think) released? I don’t remember. Was it many months before or just a couple? Just trying to estimate how long it will take for Book 4, seeing as the excerpt King Cat has already been released. Keeps me sane and on my toes.

          • New Writer

C.P. released the excerpt around May of last year. I just think that because fans haven’t heard THAT much of anything, any news, etc, C.P. should make some effort to pique new interest in fans. Absolutely keep us all on our toes. Perhaps he should generate hypothetical questions for the last book! I dunno’. Just something interesting. 🙂

  • Evansshawn98

i was wanting to know if we can expect book 4 by the end of febuary 2011 please

    • guest

      not a hope in hell

      • New Writer

LOL! Why would anyone ask that? XD

    • A release date would be announced long before the date hits. This means no, sorry.

I’m just going to re-read the series again to pass the time and recap whats happened while i wait for the 4th book 🙂 maybe compile a list of questions that are still unanswered and stuff 🙂

  • Andrew

i’ve read through the first three books twice now and
i’m thinking of sending chris a letter
to ask for empire’s release date and stuff
but i want to know if HE replys personaly or
if a publisher or someone like that replys.
so can anybody tell me. (0_0)

    • Dennis

IF you knew his address and you sent him a letter he may or may not reply however is you were to mail or email random house you would most likely get a reply from them…As far as the book being called Empire…thats def not the title of the next book

    • Dennis

    • I’ll address all of your points:

      – The fourth book is not called Empire. No name has been announced.
      – Christopher will not tell you a release date if you ask so you’d only be wasting your own time. Instead, try to think of questions that Christopher will likely answer (no questions about titles, release dates, or key plot points) so that you get an interesting response to your letter.
      – Christopher replies to his letters.

  • allthingsDRAGONS

wow i just thought of this, sort of unrelated… but still. totally guessing but what if the vault of souls hold elundnari of a bunch of dragons that not even Gabs knows about. after all, it is Solembum’s advice, and he is a were-cat. also, it’s called the “vault of ‘souls'”. what else could it be?

yeah, i’m with you shade if you’re reading this, GO THEORIES!

i for one also appreciate Mike’s valiant efforts in putting up all he knows to the readers.

and to those haters and complainers, don’t complain and hate until you’ve written a good book for young readers. for 2 years now i’ve been writing one and have done my own editing. only 15ish chapters w/ 20+ pages. trust me, it is hard to write. think of the thought process needed, the imagination, plot, character creations, making them alive,…. the list goes on and on.

    peace

    • Glaedr

This theory has been on the forums for ages

    • sirsimon

It is good to see many new authors coming to the scene. I agree with you 100%, writing is difficult, you must keep character development and flow consistent and you must keep the reader hooked. I am writing my own fantasy series, i have published the first novel, finished the second one and I am currently writing the third one. I expect five books in the series, plus some themed encyclopedias and at least three spin off novels

  • Bceagles530

I guess the only comment I have will be this. I am a big fan of the inheritance and would be satisfied with 1 of my questions answered. When will the 4th book be coming out. If u can even give me the year to be release I will be happy. And/or what is the name of it. I understand that these may be tall orders but iv heard many different things in the years snce brisingr

  • Pb1349

Guys, give mike a break, even though he is a douche bag, he only has so much to work with. And plus, i know for a fact that there is some very interesting news coming out soon so be patient.

    • Jumpergirl2056

Yeah, so do I. You want to know how? Because CP said that Random House would release stuff “sooner rather than later.” Stop getting people’s hopes up and acting like you know something real special.

  • Sasquatch

This community does have people with issues who complain too much, along with a great group of intelligent individuals. Mike, you have done a great job, and I find naysayers unbelievably annoying. However,in my view, deleting any negative comment is ridiculous because you have to accept both praise and criticism. By continuing to remove negative comments, I feel thay you will only encourage them to be more vocal. Discredit them all you want, but depriving them of a voice on a comment board is wrong.

    • Commenting on Shurtugal is a privilege, not a right. I do not delete every negative comment — I love constructive criticism. I do delete the majority of inappropriate, rude, disrespectful, etc. comments left here.

If people want their opinions heard, do it civilly otherwise they will be removed.

      • fishface

Hey Mike, any book you recommend> Over even a series possibly? It would great for killing time 🙂

        • Dennis

Umm…ever heard of this site called Lytherus?

          • huju

            No, no I haven’t

        • Definitely check out Lytherus — we’ve done some awesome book reviews and recommendations (over thirty so far). There’s some helpful links on the right sidebar of Shurtugal or you can simply go to Lytherus.com for more.

        • Cheese.is.1.of.da.5.elements

Wheel of time series by robert jordan. 13 books plus on prequel and a companion book (a it like what mike wrote for eragon,) and one more book due out in 2012. they are fab books to pass the time, like in some ways they are better than eragon, but then in some ways eragon is better than the wheel of time series!

so if you want to kill time then these woppers will kill around 6 months of your life. Believe me i know.

          • Glorfindel

Agreed. The story is good, but the author is unbelievably long-winded. It took me from July to October to read the first 13, and now I’m waiting for the 14th.

      • Jumpergirl2056

Amen to that, Mike. I agree people should be able to criticize all they want as long as they keep their heads and be civil.

  • GorillaJunction

‘Good things come to those who wait’

Hardly, an active approach often works more effectively than a lethargic one.

    • sirsimon

i thought the meaning is appropiate to this current wait.

i bet you that paolini will be finished by end of april

      • Mr. Anonymous

Ha! That was my earlier comment you were referring to… What I meant by it was that patience is necessary sometimes rather than hastiness or excessive impatience/whining bc many persons had been this way for practically every post. No, it was not about lethargy but waiting intently ready for the right time to have activity.

It is really funny to see my comment come back around 🙂
Keep up the good work Mike!

  • sirsimon

    That’s not a nice thing to say…

Anyway I am sick of the negative comments, Mike agrees and many others as well.

    Remember this quote,
‘Good things come to those who wait’ that philosphy has never been more true when it comes to the fourth book.

  • GFACE

How PATHETIC is this site? it got rid of a comment I made yesterday filled with ‘constructive criticism’.

  • GardenFace

So, after days of moaning at us for posting offensive remarks, and then punishing everyone collectively for the idiocy of some individuals, this is the best post you could write? Slow news day or fast news day, this is poor. Relaying CPs personal fanmail whinges like some sort of obedient middleman?

I’m just glad I don’t have to pay for this, as for your ‘cleaning up’, if you find words offensive mate, who says you have to read them, or who says you have to like them? But why remove a portrayal of someone’s emotion or disapointment, just because you can’t take the criticism? Even great sites like this will be criticised by some individuals, even if, as I previously stated they are acting like idiots.

  • Jahooty**

all these hater comments are making me exited!!! (Y)

  • Aladora

You know, i’ve decided the only reason I play World of Warcraft (And yes, I DO have a life at the same time. ) is because of the similarity with CP’s elves and the night elves (Thoguth they have a godess and dark skin and crap, similar. Not the same, though). I even named my favorite character ‘Oromidail (Oromis + Aiedail = epic name) and plan on getting as many dragons as I possibly can… (Got one for my dad’s character (He has a life, too) and named it Glaedr! XD) Which, with my obsession with mounts, will probably amount to 10… probably more though! But I only really play it because i’m constantly amused by the similarity.

Anyways, stop being whiny brats, though my saying won’t help this. -Insert witty comment about Justin Beiber here- and all that crap. 😀

You have, of course, done what you can given your job and other commitments, but, as it is obvious in the many recent extreme comments, a certain restlessness appears to be growing.

I mean to write this comment to offer some constructive criticism—no offense is intended. Also, I recognize that I am not by any means an expert in the management of a website, so please forgive any ignorance or naivety on my part. I simply wish to offer suggestions for the improvement of your website.

  • I Hate Mondays

Mike, do you read ALL the comments??

    • Yes. I have a special admin panel that lets me view every single comment in the order of which they were posted, so it’s very easy for me to keep track. I do read every one, though I may miss a few this weekend as I’m traveling (again).

  • EragonInfluenced

I just started writing my book today and Christopher has been a great influence!!

    • Good luck!!

    • Horsegal4ever

Maybe you can respond to some of my concerns; I like to write too. I have a crazy imagination, and I love to share my stories and put them on paper (or computer.) I just have ups and downs, and can’t concentrate on ‘sticking’ with my story. One day, four or five chapters are born, and the next month, nothing. Not like writers block, more like I can’t make myself stay interested in my own theme. My mind jumps to another idea. I know you just started your book, but could you tell me what you do to ‘stick to your book’? I’d be forever grateful. (Not that I know whether or not you’ll ever look at this post again :P) If anyone else out there has a response to my concerns (Including you, Mike, I know you wrote a book or two yourself!) PLEASE reply! Thanks so much!

      • EragonInfluenced

I have almost the same exact problem! One thing I do is write down the plot in a sentence and tape it to my monitor.

      • New Writer

This is kind of funny because I’m in the same stages as well. I used to have SERIOUS self-esteem problems. I thought that people would laugh at my work and I thought that I needed some impressive or erudite vocabulary to write a fantastic book. Yes, you need good vocabulary, but that will get you only so far. You need WRITING SKILLS, not just pure diction, and that will only come through time and practice. One thing is to make sure that you have your story outlined. C.P. once said that his story fell flat after a couple of chapters because he did not give a general guide of where the story will flow. This happened to me as well, so avoid it and make sure you do that, Horsegal4ever! Another thing is surrounding yourself with family and friends who know about your project. Make sure your hopes, wishes, and concerns. Writers and non-writers alike can understand the angst that you have for no following through because you may have doubts as to how interesting your story is. Ask them to read part of the story, a chapter or two, ask for suggestions, connect with any writers, English teachers, professionals, etc so that you can promote your work to the optimum. And last but not least, I like to envision the future. What would it feel like if my thoughts came in the form of a book and perhaps…what if it was a bestseller??? Now, some people may think that this is a little bit conceited or fantasy driven, but you must believe in yourself, haven’t you? Even if your work isn’t quote on quote a ‘bestseller,’ at least you fulfilled YOUR dream. YOU have the power to jot your thoughts down and develop a world from pure imagination to pen and paper. So I hope some of this helps and keep the vision alive! 😀

  • Cathy Gorski

I have been waiting for Christopher Paolini to finish the Eragon Inheritance Series. I have searched online and can find nothing about it. I read about a year ago that they had come up with a name for the 4th book. I cannot believe that he would leave the series and his fans hanging and not finish the story for us.

  • Evilsportsdemon

i really love all three books so far and i have read the all several times over but enough is enough . really how long will it take to get book 4 out???? he said himself he was going to end it at three books so he must have had most of it already written . i think he did get himself caught in trying to find a way to end it, but really almost 3 years since the last book??? i bet he has lost alot of readers in that time. i mean the harry potter writer managed to write many books in a reasonable time frame

    • Anonymous

i hope to god your right

  • Anonymous

I need a release date like NOW. ihate long waits…

  • sirsimon

I am sure it won’t be long before random house announces its completion. I imagine he has now finished it and is currently checking over it, if he still isn’t finished, Paolini is either perfecting the final battle and ending or he is still looking for a good name for the emerald dragon.

Whatever the reason, I have waited long enough and I will wait even longer. I just pray that it will be good, Eragon was brilliant, Eldest was my favourite and Brisingr was great, just a tad boring in the middle. This book should be the best of all

    • Cheese.is.1.of.da.5.elements

  • blah

its possible that CP is entertaining questions now because he is done with the book and its out for editing. Why else would he do this if he’s writing the book? It would only distract him and take longer for him to finish

    • Christopher has taken fan mail for years now. This is not new, just a helpful guide that was put together for people looking to contact him.

All I can say is that its better for CP to make that waiting worth. He’d better make that Fourth book F-ing amazing. I mean he should make it so great in terms of plot and originality so that I can safely say “Well, fuck the haters okay theyre piece of shit” after finish reading it.
And you got to understand, Mr. Whoever Deletes My Every Fucking Comment that behind every hater lies a fan who was disappointed and hes disappointed not because he’s a jerk or an idiot, hes disappointed because CP’s books are wonderful and when a person’s hopes for something as good as the Inheritance Cycle EPICLY FAIL then that fan becomes a hater, a jerk, an idiot, imbecile, etc.
None of his fans including me (although Im in a “Fuck off” mood as well) pay attention to the real haters who have never read the book and judge the Cycle because of that sack of shit movie, or because the core of the plot is similar to Star Wars or other crap like this.
For us, CP’s fans, all that is complete bulls**t. And don’t expect us to immedietly put CP and Eragon T-shirts and to give a 1100 percent of our spiritual will so we can survive mentally the waiting for that 4th book. The series are awesome. There’s no doubt about it. But it has been 3 years, OK. Look it doesn’t matter now. If we waited so far, we will wait more. I will, I definately will, although my interest is fading away. But it will not die out, cause I loved every word in those books regarding Arya, not so much about Eragon but whatever anyway. Honestly I don’t know what is CP’s delay problem and frankly it makes little difference if I know what it is. All I want is to see that book.
Im telling you this, because you may think that only “true fans” will retain their fascination about the series, but nonetheless you ARE losing fans and you have no idea how many. “True fans” are simply individuals-some fan clubs and others-but the rest of the readers who followed the series simply for entertainment whose number is far greater-it is those admirerers that you are losing now. And you will be losing more and more.
Every hater is a fan. Was a fan. Remember that while you’re deleting the next comment.
But hey I don’t blame you, Mr. Badass Comment Eraser. If I had to take care of a site that is as big and popular as this one I would also be like “Hey another idiot, let’s screw him.”
Now I know that you will probably delete this Mr Mike Hater Pwner but frankly its your choice. Im telling the truth whether people like it or not. I’ll check the site tomorrow to see if there’s anything new anyway.

Your little diatribe would be better received if you had the decency to keep it civil.

  • FrozenDeath

@Josiah It *was* a great source of information until about four months ago; since then nothing new has been said, all “news” is just reiterating old announcements, and CP’s been “darn close” for a long time. When is book 4 going to come out? At this point I’m wondering whether it will.

  • Calebgiard1

from something i read in a Q&A with CP i saw that it said something like animasls are able to use magic or might be, maybe i misinterpreted it, but when i think of this i feel like cats may be able to do this as werecats are animalistic at least and if cats are controlled by them why use the cats unless they are usefull in some way like being able to do small magics?

  • Mylithium717

No one needs to write him. Leave him alone so he can finish up the last book. -_-

  • EternalShade

I say we all just stop with the hater comments and stop commenting about the hater comments. It makes up at least 50% of every post Mike puts up and should be counted for spam, because it makes people have to sift through all of it to find the comments worth reading. So, how bout we all just discuss book 4 theories or something! Who’s with me!! 😀

    • Unfortunately all of the time I have to waste cleaning up rude/inappropriate comments takes away from time I could be spending adding new features to Shur’tugal.

      • EternalShade

So true dear one, so very true.

      • Bdb349

No disrespect, but why dont you just ignore the hater comments and spend time adding to shurtugal instead?

        • Someone has to keep the comments clean or people will stop visiting them.

Can we get an interesting article soon plz? luv you shurtugal but your getting stingy on me!

It’s been awhile since I’ve commented here. I wonder if any of the crowd from four years ago remains.

    • Oh hey, I remember you. I’m still here! 😉

      • Tulkas Astaldo

        Me!

        • Tulkas Astaldo

Never mind, I didn’t have an account four years ago… well, I’m here anyway.

          • Glorfindel

Why Michael, I’m glad to hear it. Is there any way you can see when I first commented, or not? I think I first joined when the Eragon deluxe edition came out, or perhaps it was the Eldest deluxe edition. I recall that the first thread I read was everyone discussing whether or not a store would kick you out if you removed the plastic wrap from the book while in the store.

          • Glorfindel

Tulkas, we’re friends on facebook, of course I remember you!

    • leo

Hey I remember you! I also remember that epic argument you had with everyone else about religion which made Mike go banannas!

  • Glorfindel

I’ve been saying the same thing for four years, Josiah. People never give up.

  • GrastDK

its not that cant give him the space to finish the book… but why is it so bad to ask him etc what page he was on at the moment?

i simply just think there has been no info about the progress lately, and a page nr cant hurt that bad to tell..?

i love his work and for me he can take 5 years to finish it… im just curius, and if fans was not curius, then they was not fans.. thouse that call others for “haters” may be the haters itself?..

relax it was simply just a question to surtugals staff if the maybe could push a litte info out, if the demand from the fans gave a backbone to present..

O_o but hey, dont mention it, ill just stop asking anything at all..

    • Shanari

The Shurtugal Staff has just as much information as they post here for you to read. They are not holding back anything. They are not affiliated with Random House (C.P.’s publishers) in any way. Even Christopher himself doesn’t know the release date yet, because he isn’t even done with the book. No matter how much the fans demand, Shurtugal can’t give information that they don’t have.

  • Horsegal4ever

I’m so glad there’s a mail address for him; he’s one of my few favorite authors I can actually contact and know I’ll recieve SOMETHING back! It’s better than posting and hoping someone else who knew his address would mail it to him. Thanks for posting it, Mike! P.S. you do a great job with Shurtugal.com. I just wish news would come faster 😛 For all you people who drone on about how unfair it is that he isn’t going that fast, chill! Do you know how slow writing can become, if you’ve got writer’s block or just lose interest in your own story line? I’m not saying Chris is like that, but heck, I am! I have a crazy imagination, I write little stories all the time that I lose interest in later. Yeah, he’s under preassure! But if you want info, that leads to a soon release, and if he’s not ready, that’s a terrible book. And after all he’s done that’s awesome, it would stink. What I do is I don’t read the books a lot. If I avoid the books, look on Shurtugal maybe once a week, I don’t get swelled with hope to have it deflated. But because I don’t focus so much on it and don’t get so discouraged so often, I don’t feel angry toward Chris and the series. I know that the longer it takes to write, the better it will be because he has more time to improve it.
But it may just be me. I don’t know about the rest of you, but that’s what I suggest. And don’t be hateful, it gives the author bad feelings about writing it for you. Like my friend says, ‘Don’t hate. Appreciate!” And don’t junk up his mailbox. He may change the address, and like someone else said, it will take longer to write book 4 because he’s answering you. Anyway, I’ve spilled my gut feelings about this, and I hope someone out there listens and likes what my ramblings say. Ciao.

  • Ferras Vansen

I wish Random House could give us a date when they will give us some news about Book4 (a date to give a date), its fun waiting (cuz i’ve started exploring many more fantasy series) but its also frustrating!! 🙂

  • I’ve been an active viewer of this site, but not an active commenter, for over 3 years now. It’s been a fantastic source of news, and I especially have loved it whenever Mike gets an interview with CP; as one of my biggest writing inspirations I always enjoy reading what he has to say on a topic.

But after 3 years of viewing, I have at last decided to comment on the one thing about this site that I dislike.

It’s the continual comments of hating and impatience that I am addressing. Doesn’t matter who is doing it, there’s always someone, in at least one comment in a new article, complaining about the content (or lack of). Be it complaints about how fast Paolini is writing Book 4, (the same pace he always has, 3 years a book,) complaints about content on Shurtugal not directly related to Inheritance news, (Lytherus updates, etc), or complaints about the staff on here, (all of whom do this voluntarily out of their love for the series), it never ends.

Please understand, guys, that no random comment here on Shurtugal, no matter how strongly worded, is going to speed Paolini’s writing by one keystroke, nor will it release a tidal wave of Inheritance news by one article. Be patient; I’ve been following Inheritance since right before Eldest came out, and believe me, I know it’s frustrating to wait and wait for the next installment. But it’ll come. In my opinion in fact, we’ll see Book 4 hit shelves around the end of this year, as that would fit into the schedule we had with Eragon / Eldest / Brisingr, all of which were 3 years apart. (Brisingr came out in 2008.)

Anyways… I know this isn’t going to stop haters from hating, or complainers from complaining. But just lay off the staff, eh? Mike and crew do their best to give us what we get here, and even the (now-infamous) Lytherus is an effort to keep new content coming. When Inheritance News runs dry, we can still have news about all the other new media we enjoy. Anyway. I’ve had my rant. Thanks for what you do, Mike and crew, you’ve made my last 3 years as an Inheritance fan more fun than a dragon ride over Du Weldenvarden.

    May your swords stay sharp!

Arrigatou Josiah. I’m glad that I'[m not only one who knows patience is important in just about everything. I have to say, I hear public speeker. Haha! Anyways, I can agree with you on all points of your post, and I bet that you explained it better than I did in my last post. At the moment, I’m just not caring about Paolini’s book. Not in a negative way, of course. But, I’m mean with being impatient about it. I’m simply occupying myself with my own book, and keeping my mind of Inheritance, until there is update on Shur’tugal, or anywhere else.

It’s torture, but we all need to have patience, and end mocking Paolini, or telling him to write faster. It can’t and won’t make a single difference. As a writer myself, I can understand Paolini wanting to take some time, and give us a good read. In my last post, I stated that I had to start my book from the very beginning again, so it could fit the readers interest, and give them something that’s never been done before. So, coming from that experience, we should be thankful he’s taking his time into writing this. In simpler terms, he doesn’t want to give his readers a bunch of cow patty that’s sitting in the sun for old grampa to pick up.

I would recommend for haters, flamers, and staff bashers to read my post that was aimed at “I’m Back”. Those quotes could give y’all some sense, if taken to heart. It just sickens me. Arrigatou Mike, and Shur’tugal staff!

      • Couldn’t agree more with you on prioritizing your own writing over reading another’s, (that’s actually something I have trouble with – too many awesome books! Haha)

And regarding your mention of wanting Paolini to take his time, I also agree wholeheartedly. My greatest fear for book IV is that the story will end in a way that either doesn’t fit the series (ala Penndragon) or that the ending will be so predictable and unexciting that it will feel anticlimactic (PLEASE, Chris, don’t take the Star Wars inspiration all the way through!). All we can do is hope for the final chapter of the Cycle to not only finish the story, but to do it in a way both exciting and satisfying.

yes!!! someone figured out that the inheritence cycle books are almost three years to the month apart. I did a while ago and like you josiah I have been more a reader of this site and not a contributer. according to what I believe it should come out around august. to anyone reading this one of my methods when I am waiting for books is to reread the series over and over that might not work for you but I guess Im weird like that.

I have to completely agree with you on this one. Some people need to be more patient, but the wait has seemed forever.I truly hope this book is as good as the rest.

Just to find out how long it would take for book 4 to get published. If CP was to finish book 4 now (i know that is impossible) when would it come out.

  • Guest

So… let’s say I live in a foreign country. Would the mailing process suffer any changes from the steps you guys presented? ( by this I mean, would I have to do any extra stuff to get the letter sent?)

    • More postage and you’d have to write the addresses differently. I’m not sure how it works for foreign mail, so Google is definitely your friend here. Good luck!

      • Guest

Thanks, I’ll look into it 🙂

  • CheshireCat

I thought people would be happy that Paolini actually takes the time to answer fanmail, but I suppose you haters will never be happy.

    • Illwill_1981

I would much rather have him write a book than a letter to everyone that writes him he can respond to. Call me crazy…

Again, not a hater, C.P. is talented and can paint a masterpeice…just not willing to wait a decade to view the entire masterpeice. I would rather just not get into it 1 part at a time with such a long wait inbetween books.

      • CheshireCat

It actually IS very cool. Do you know if he hand writes them or types them out? And it’s hard to ignore them sometimes. The irritation gets to be too much to contain.

I was MORE than willing to wait so long for the Harry Potter books because it was such an amazing, in depth series. I’m willing to wait that long now, for this book too. Calm down. You can wait a year or two, it’s not going to hurt you. I would like both, to be honest. How many authors take the time to write to their fans? Paolini obviously cares about his fans and he gives them all one-on-one answers, which I think is a great thing to do. It shows that he’s writing these novels because he loves writing, not because he wants fame or money. And everyone here knows you’ll wait for the book and read it when it comes out, regardless of complaining that you won’t wait. So why bother even complaining in the first place?

    • You hit the nail on the head here. There will always be someone unhappy with something, regardless of how cool or positive it is. It’s best to ignore them and go on your way.

  • Silly little man

YOU DO KNOW THAT THE MORE LETTERS YOU SEND SAYING STUFF LIKE…”WHEN IS BOOK 4 COMING OUT?” “YOU ALMOST DONE MAN!?” “YOU’VE WASTED TOO MUCH OF MY TIME CYA!” IS JUST GONNA MAKE BOOK 4 TAKE LONGER TO WRITE CAUSE HE HAS TO READ ALL YOUR LETTERS!! UNLESS ITS A LEGIT QUESTION LIKE “IS THE MAN LEFT ON THE SHORE ALONE, GALBATORIX STRIPPED OF HIS MAGIC BY DRAGONS AND LEFT TO SUFFER AND DIE OF HIS MADNESS???” THEN DONT SEND HIM ANY LETTERS!

    • The question you used as an example of a good question is actually an awful question. Of course Christopher won’t reveal key plotlines from Book 4 (such as “Will Galbatorix lose his magic?”). That would also be wasting his time.

      • David Osborn

True. I’d rather not ask any questions relating book 4 actually, it will be a futile attempt to get any answers from Christopher.

      • Silly little man

true its just about impossable to get an answer out of CP lolz

Think of how a normal fifteen year old human found a dragon egg and became the key to the freedom of millions of people in his world.

Idk I just felt like posting that. 😛

  • Illwill_1981

As much as I have enjoyed the series, I will not get into another of this authors series of books until the series is complete. I am sorry but it is comming up on 2.5 years in a bit for the fourth book and it was already partially completed. I am happy that C.P. has managed to turn his hobby(Fantasy writing) into something that can make money, but I hate waiting 3+ years inbetween books. Most of today’s recent great fantasy(T.K., R.J. etc.) writers can pop out great books in a year maybe two. In the extreme circumstance(The death of R.J., very sad) in may take longer, but it’s ultra rare. Until C.P. treats writing as a job and not as a hobby, I will have to wait a decade or longer for C.P. to finish a series of four books.

    • CheshireCat

It was not partially completed. He began writing the third book as the ending, and when he realized it was too long he split it into two. Which means, that he had to finish the third book and THEN start the fourth. The fourth was not already started when he decided to split them.

      • Illwill_1981

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you write 1000 pages and tell yourself that is too long for a book put 800 pages of the 1000 pages into one book and 200 pages into the next book…doesn’t that mean the next book partially(200 pages worth) completed?

        • Jumpergirl2056

It actually may have even taken him longer with those 200 pages. Think about it he had to turn 200 pages of a continuation into a beginning of a book, which is a lot different. I’ll bet there were lots of changes that had to be made.

        • You’re wrong so I’ll correct you: none of Book 4 was written when Christopher decided to split Brisingr in two. He decided to split Brisingr in two before Brisingr was finished, then wrote to the end of Brisingr and stopped. He started writing Book 4 after Brisingr was finished, not before.

          • Jackbladestealer

off the subject here. On what exact date did CP start writing book 4?

          • KingEragon

If you want an intricate answer like that you are better off mailing CP himself. I’m not totally sure on this but I don’t think Mike has any idea on this one. But please include some other questions with this one if you decide to mail him. In my opinion it would be a waste of time not to ask as many questions in one letter to him as possible. 🙂

          • KingEragon

        • CheshireCat

This is how it went, or how I imagine it.

Paolini sits writing his fantastic novel. He gets to page 900. He’s looking at his book. “Oh crap I’m not even near done with this story yet!” He plans an ending, writes the ending, sends the book to be edited and published. A short time later he starts the fourth book. From page one.

      • Illwill_1981

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you write 1000 pages and tell yourself that is too long for a book put 800 pages of the 1000 pages into one book and 200 pages into the next book…doesn’t that mean the next book partially(200 pages worth) completed?

      • This is correct.

        • i hate nerds

          your a ass

    • lagut’ruhS

I agree. It takes Rick Riordon one year to come out with TWO books. Yet it takes three years for Chris to come out with ONE book.

    • KingEragon

Lol why not just find a new series to read until the fourth book comes out? Check Litherus, there are plenty of books and stuff on there to occupy your time. I know this is a bit off topic but I find the Wheel Of Time books by Robert Jordan to be a good read while waiting for the fourth book. There are 13 books in that series and 1 more coming out within the next year so CP would probably have enough time to write 2 books before you finished those. Depending on how fast you read. 🙂

    • Tuesdays are usually the “big day” in release world. Books, DVDs, games, etc are released on Tuesday. Announcements are similar. It’s the best day of the week industry-wise for announcements. People are still lazy/in the weekend mindset on Monday. Fridays are bad because people have already mentally “checked out” for the weekend.

Of course it is frustrating to wait for book 4, specially for the people who have waited for all or most of the books. However, I see no point in bugging the creator of the site about silly things like the relevance of the post or the release date. Really, will insulting Mike and demanding information not even Christopher knows for sure make the book come out any sooner? Nope.
I’ve always thought this book attracted intelligent readers so I think some people around here should start acting intelligent.

i find it really ironic how mike is always saying that people have a sad life when all he does is sit in his little hole and get pissed off when people rant out there opinion. then he rants in return , removes comments and generaly sulks like a spoilt brat whos game has been taken over by his play mates. he will probably remove/ reply to this post in a personal way in another spoilt way but my point has been made.

  • Tom kosin

Chris, I am dying here! When is the next book coming out? Hurry, please.

  • Seris

Hey, this was great! Now we can go bug Christopher instead of Mike!

  • greengate13

You really shouldn’t have done this Mike..:-P….Although is a good thing to give fans a way to comunicate with their favorite author and there will be a few exceptions that will send really meaningfull letters, i think the majority will send a hole bunch of letters with the same concept :”Please i can’t wait anymore..When the fourth book is coming up??”…Even i get tempted to send one like that though i know is useless…And it’s really a waste of his time to answer to these letters when he could use it to finally finalize the book…I hope at least that there will be a filtering in all these letters to avoid a situation like this…

    • Fans have always had this information. We simply compiled a guide to help them write letters (offering them advice, guidelines). I think what fans have a hard time realizing is that if Christopher and Random House haven’t revealed a release date, no amount of pestering or asking will lead them to one. We just have to be patient and wait.

      • greengate13

Yeah i couldn’t agree more with you (even if i know how hard is to be patient and share the same agony and impatience with all of them) about the last part…I can imagine that this information is not first reveilled here in this site (though a lot of people could hear this for the first time.Such as me that i have , your site as my first source of information about the Inheritance Cyrcle , and not really a lot of time to seek information all the time) and of course my comment had a humoring tone when i said you shouldn’t have done that…I only pinpointed the possibility that a lot of useless letters will be send and my hope that this will not stall the really important thing , aka:the writting of the final book…

        • greengate13

*revealed…(Sorry for my english..Not the language of my motherland…)

    • Arya

I was thinking about this too, but I would hope that people would know better than to do that. I won’t ask anything pertaining to the fourth book, aside from saying that I am looking forward to it. I’d go more along the lines of asking a question about Alagaesia in general.

And people, about my use of the name Arya, it’s what I go by everywhere on the internet.

While I do think that this is very cool and a very generous offer on Christopher’s part, I think it would be more interesting if he (or Random House) simply typed up the questions into a file that they could send to the fan site. That way, everyone could see what he had to say, instead of each individual sending him a single letter and HOPING that he has the time to answer it.
I know that that is what the multiple interview transcripts are for, but still, if he’s going to be answering even MORE questions about the series (or himself) I’m sure that ALL of the fans would love to see his responses.

    • I think that the fans who take the time to Christopher would much rather a personal response.

      • Shadezero

Good point Mike. Also, I guess it’s not like Christopher will be answering any REALLY important questions in fan letters, so I suppose the rest of the fandom won’t be missing out on much. It would be very cool to get a personalized letter from him.

  • Anonymous

I’m definitely going to send Christopher a little fan love!

  • Metfan4eva57

Please don’t post any news unless it pertains in any way to Book IV because my hopes rise when I see something new on the news feed then falls when it is something unrelated like this one ^

    • Captain Roberts

O love anything related to Mr. Paolini. I’ve followed him from the begining and always will. I may be all alone on my airship up here but I still keep my eyes peeled for dragons, the hydrogen in my balloon is flamamble.

      Signed, Captain Roberts

    • Sorry but that’s one request I won’t be following. 😛

      • XxxX

Hey I totally agree with Metfan42va57
But, Mike has already freakin answered all these hater comments
All right, I wouldn’t call them hater comments (seeing as I’d be calling myself a hater)
        But still,
If you want to see Mike’s reply then check out the first Lytherus Update
        Now THAT was hate
Also MasterBrom, stop liking everything Mike posts, you are such a suck up 😛
Oh yeah is it just me or does Mike use the “:P” symbol a little too much

          • Jeriah

This little comment thread is pretty dang funny. I happen to like any sort of updates Mike puts on here. So you negatives can just get yourselves thrown into Galbatorix’s dungeons. 😛

I really hope a kid doesn’t know what that is, but i agree, that’s definitely not for this site.

          • Aladora

MasterBrom… KingEragon… should I make a ‘OverlordGalby’ or ‘PrincessArya’ or something of the sort just to even it out? xD

          • Aladora

            Hey! I know! ‘Sheep-BiterSaphira!’ 😀

        • KingEragon

This is Mike’s site and he can run it, post on it, and comment on it however he wants. Got a problem, get off it. Fans like you shouldn’t even have the right to comment on this site or even visit it if you can’t keep your mouth shut and enjoy the fact that we get any kind of inheritance related updates at all. If not for Mike none of us would have a site to come check every day or so to see if there is any news about our favorite series. Sorry for my random outburst but when someone works this hard for us and people treat him like this it makes me angry. 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛

yes he rarely does it more than once a comment :P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P …….. but this one is pretty cool to 8P

I feel the same as you do, my hopes rise with each new post that elements of Book 4 will be released, but I don’t think this is unrelated. This fansite is dedicated to ALL things Inheritance, author included. The intimacy between Christopher and his readers makes the Inheritance Cycle different to other series, how many other authors answer multiple questions about his books every month?

    • Jake

Guys, give Mike a break. So, it’s a slow news month, but hey, its always darkest before the dawn. I happen to know there’ll be some news soon. Mike is a great guy who donates his time and effort to create an efficient, awesome site, and we shouldn’t be hating on him when he’s doing us a favor.

I also think this is very relevant.

umm excuse me what news..???? i would like to hear about this!!!

      • Glaedr

what do you mean ‘I happen to know there will be some news soon’. Do you actually know for a fact or do you just think?

      • Please do not pretend to know information which you don’t. Spreading rumors earns people a boot from the comment section — please don’t make us do that.

For clarification: Jake doesn’t know that there will be news happening soon.

        • c’mon man

ummmm, what if this “jake” character does happen to know something? maybe he works with random house, possible a relative of chris’s or something
          hey, you never know

          • Anonymous

Why would someone like an editor or a family member of chris come on here and say they have news but not say who they are to let us know that its credible information

          • Actually, I do know. No one outside of the very small circle of people working on the book know the details. None of these people would reveal anything, certainly not on Shur’tugal.

He has no information. Never listen to anonymous commentors.

          • OneWhoWouldHelp

Well Mike, I happen to know that the title of Book IV will be titled, (I don’t know the main title, but Chris told me the min i title) ________ or The Vault of Souls. Chris told me, I live in Michigan and was one of the Borders Book Club contest, and after filming, we got to talk to him. Told him we wouldn’t tell anyone, but that was so long ago and no news at all has come out, so I might as well say it to release some of my anger.

        • epickid

          he was trying to be nice man. BTW 😛 😛 😛 :p :p :p :p :p

        • CominWitDaSauce

I posted this a while back, but I can’t seem to find it. Anyways, for the Borders book club thing they had where a few people were chosen to meet with Christopher and film a interview session, I was chosen. I’m from Northville MI, and it was held in Ann Arbor, so it was only 15 minutes away from me. Anyways, in response to news, afterwards, we were able to talk to Chris off camera, and he told us what the SUBtitle of the 4th book, and it is…

XXXXXX and the Vault of Souls

I thought that might interest people as the Vault will obviously play a large role in the upcoming book. Chris asked us not to tell anyone, but since it is taking unusually long for any news, I thought I might as well let people know. I know its not that big of a piece of news, but it is news, something this site, not fault of Mike’s, has been lacking. Hope you don’t think I’m lying, I’m not trying to spread rumors, Chris confirmed it to us, anyone else who was there can confirm he said this as well. Anyways, I’ll wait patiently, as should you all, after all, we don’t really have any other option.

          • It isn’t that I don’t trust you, however, I’m going to caution against believing this unless you have some sort of proof. For obvious reasons.

            wow… someone wants attention

          • Catherine6635

Sounds like the title of a harry potter book, and you really better be wrong because that is the most stupid idea for a title to an eragon book ive ever heard.

          • CominWitDaSauce

Yea, but with Harry Potter, the title was always Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets or something like that, and it was a major part of the title. You how in Brisingr it was titled Brisingr or Eragon shadeslayer and Saphria Biaghtschulle (sp i dont care I cant spell that) and the 7 promises, so its a sub title, and most people dont even know its there.
It will be like that, and thank you Kayla for subtle hinting at my insecure desire to have attention, I’m glad you have nothing better to do then troll these comments, and insult any post you can. Wonderful people we have in this community.
And Corey, I’ve kept that knowledge secret for over two years. I’ve waited patiently, but this book is taking far longer then is necessary, for simply be part 2 of a book. But I guess I’ll take orders from some random person online, thank you for telling me how to live my life. My only questin for you, where were you 20 years ago?

Sorry Mike, I don’t have any proof, wish I did, it’s kind of a trust thing, you trust me, and I trust Chris didn’t lie, or I’ll look stupid, lol.

well inheritence does generally take three years per book.. 😛 you released this early

          • Corey

If Chris told you in confidence keep it in confidence

        • Catherine6635

Haha, stick up for a guy and what do you get, nothing but disdain from the guy you stuck up for thats what.

    • petrik

I´m partly with you on this. I consider myself a patient person, but this is just starting to take way toooooo long (the book IV completion and release I mean).
In the last big interview, Chris said himself he is very close to completing the book. well, I would assume that would mean some 50-100 pages or so. it was more than 2 months ago and one would expect that to be enough time to write 50 pages (but I am not a writer myself so I could be far from truth here)
how “fast” actualy the writers write? I would expect at least 1 page per day average. I am sure there are many days when they don´t write at all, but there have to be also many days when they write way more than 1 page, so i assume 1 page per day could work as an average number… but than would mean (since Book III was finished more than 2 yrs ago and assuming Chris began to work on Book IV immediately) that Book IV would have to have around 800 pages by now… which would be encouraging if true, cos that would mean it really couldn´t be far from finish. but I beggining to fear that it took chris so long because he has some major issues with the ending – i mean with finishing the book with some “reasonable” ending that would answer all the unaswered questions from previous books and have some logic in it. I fear that by creating the rules of magic the way he does (very complicated) he made a trap for himself he has now troubles to escape – I mean to create some acceptable ending. I am sure I am wrong with this fear though…
but if he really had the story in his head before he even began to write this final book, one would expect it to be finished much much sooner… 🙁
      just my 2 cents…

PS – pardon my poor english, not my first langueage

      • Anonymous

You’ve got to remember though, that the editing process takes away a lot of ‘pages’; an un-edited script could be 1000 pages long, but the edited final copy could be less than 800. Have you ever written an essay and then when you edit it, have decided to re-write a paragraph? Imagine writing a book and deciding to re-write a CHAPTER, that would certainly put you ‘behind’ in your schedule, let alone all of the bits that need to be chopped out and spelling and grammatical errors to be fixed. Also Christopher has certainly been busy with meetings, conventions and answering Shur’tugal’s never ending list of questions.
Christopher produces quality books, and quality takes time. We could have had the ‘mind-map-plan’ ages ago just to know plot details, but it is much nicer reading what happens in a structured, detailed way.
Another thing to consider is that Random House will release the book when THEY are ready. That means they will hold on to the finished book until the best possible time to release it, when the demand is high.

        • I’d say the demand is going to be pretty high regardless of when they release it.

          • Anonymous

But there are certain times of the year when there will be a lot of ‘random buyers’ getting the books. Like close to Christmas, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, etc will be going into the malls looking at gifts. If they have no idea what they are going to buy, then a book off of the best sellers shelf or newly released shelf will be what they buy.
I got my first copy of Eragon because my Aunt went into a book store and saw Eldest on the new release shelf and decided to get me Eragon and Eldest for Christmas. She also bought a copy of each of the books for my other cousins. That was 6 Inheritance books she bought simply because they were there, she didn’t go hunting for them.
Random House and other publishers have probably done plenty of research into the best time to release books, how long to wait in between books, how much information to release and when.

    Mike;
I think you might get some hate mail from CP after posting this…LOL…I could just imagine how many people are now going to email him pestering him about when he is going to finish this book.

    • He doesn’t have email. 😛

      • Captain Roberts

        SAD FACE!!! ;(

      • Hello

why did you delete my comment in a robotic fashion of yours get stroppy stop commenting or delete comments

  • Spacechick055

Oo, this is awesome 🙂 It’s really cool that he personally responds. Most of the time, people just have their publishers or managers send back printed letters with the same stuff to everyone. Sounds really nice!

  • Jumpergirl2056

    Awesome. Thanks, Mike!
