Re-Post: C.P. Q&A Highlights – The Best Of: Book 5? Prequels? Wolf Eyes and Bladesinger? More Dragons?

Christopher Paolini recently spent a week answering fan-submitted questions, netting Inheritance fans over 13,000 words worth of questions-and-answers. That’s a lot of content to sift through! We’ve processed all 13,000 words and have pulled the very best facts revealed by Christopher, compiling them all into one organized, easy-to-read guide to confirmed Book 4 facts, Book 4 teasers, information on Book 4 and 5, prequels, and beyond.

Some highlights from our compilation include Christopher’s revelation of a fifth book; just how close Christopher is to finishing Book 4; hints at characters and their roles in Book 4, including Murtagh, Roran, Nasuada, Angela, “Wolf Eyes“, “Bladesinger“, and more; Inheritance prequels; life after Inheritance, including multiple already-plotted books; and more! You won’t want to miss this summary!

This post has been re-posted due to issues with the original post that were unable to be resolved, rendering the original post impossible to view.

*Any bit of information stated below in quotation marks is a direct quote from one of Christopher’s answers in his Q&A. Any non-quotation fact is a summarized version of a long answer given by Christopher in his Q&A. No information contained below was taken from anywhere but his recent Q&A.*

Book 4: Let’s start out with some answers to our most-asked questions!

  • Christopher is getting “darn close to the end”
  • Book 4 is named – and has been since Brisingr was finished – but the release of the title is done at Random House’s discretion and will likely occur sooner rather than later.
  • The cover of Book 4 will contain the final emerald dragon. The artwork is done and Christopher has seen it.
Book 4 Teasers
  • “It’s possible that Eragon may discover more about [spirits’] nature” in Book 4.
There are some “interesting bits” with Murtagh in Book 4.
  • Roran and Nasuada’s fates are completely different from their originally-planned fates.
  • Some hints at Book 4 may be found throughout Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia – mainly in the written sections.
  • Brom’s body is safely tucked away within a diamond tomb, out of touch from the elements and any human interference. Is it possible he could be brought back to life? Christopher says, “It will be addressed in Book Four, but perhaps not how you expect.”
  • “There is a lot more to Angela than meets the eye. If you like her, you’re in for a treat with Book Four. Angela gets several crowning moments of awesomeness therein.”
  • Book 4 will shed some light on the limitations and powers of Brisingr’s – the sword’s – ability to catch fire.
  • Galbatorix is the only other living Rider on Alagaesia. No surprises hidden in any more forests as far as secret Riders go!
  • “Wolf Eyes” and “Bladesinger” will make an appearance in Book 4.
  • Brom’s “seven words” will be addressed in Book 4
  • Solembum’s riddle will be addressed in Book 4
  • Brom’s sword will make some sort of an appearance in Book 4
  • We will see an elven death (and the subsequent burial ceremony) in Book 4
On Book 5, Prequels, and Beyond
  • “I may write a prequel book about the Forsworn and Brom and Galbatorix’s rise to power, but first, I have to wrap up Book Four! … I don’t have any immediate plans to write a prequel, but, if I ever do, it will probably be either the story of Brom’s life or a story set during the height of the Riders’ power.”
  • “There will be lots more books. Most of them won’t be set within Alagaësia, but some might. … Book Five (as I think of it) would be set after the events of the Inheritance cycle, would be a single stand-alone book, and would feature both new and old characters.”
  • “I’ve given a lot of thought to what I want to write after I finish Book Four. In fact, I have a number of books entirely plotted out that I’ve been waiting to write for several years now. Some are fantasy, some are science fiction, some romance, historical fiction, mystery, thriller, horror . . . you name it! I even have another book set in Alagaësia, although it won’t be my next project.”
  • “Once I finish the Inheritance cycle, I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do. I know that I want to take some time off and travel a bit, but I also have so many stories that I want to tell, I can’t imagine walking away from the computer entirely. I’ll just have to see what feels right.”
List of “No Comment” questions

What can we infer from “no comment” questions? They make for great theories! If Christopher is unable to answer a question and resorts to a “no comment” answer, you can be sure that the question is headed in the right direction. These are not to be taken as confirmations for – or against – the question being asked, however make good fuel for fan theories and speculation.

  • Would Eragon leaving for Vroengard Isle count as Eragon leaving Alagaesia?
  • Will the unnamed shadow from Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia be addressed in Book 4?
  • It has been hinted that dragons can be as large as mountains. Could this mean that there are still hidden wild dragons in Alagaesia?
  • Would killing Galbatorix free Murtagh or kill him along with the king?
  • Will we ever see more of the Ra’zac?
  • Will we see more of Tenga?
Fun Inheritance Facts
  • Angela “probably” met Galbatorix in the past. “You never know with Angela.”
  • Christopher originally wrote a scene in Eldest where Eragon and Saphira came across many bones of the dragons Galbatorix killed in the middle of the Hadarac Desert. This scene was ultimately cut from the book. “Be assured, however, there are lots of dragon bones laying around in certain places of Alagaësia.”
  • Everything concerning Angela and Elva was a deviation from Christopher’s original plot. Neither character was in Christopher’s original plot.
  • There “may be” more Ra’zac and/or Lethrblaka over the sea on the continent they originated from.
  • “I have a file full of deleted scenes . . . it’s over two hundred pages long at the moment.”
  • Vampires in Alagaesia? “Yes . . . and no. That’s a subject for a future story.”
  • Roran and Brom were partially based off of Christopher’s own father

Let’s clear something up: do dragons die when their Rider dies?!

“NO. A dragon does not have to die when his or her Rider dies. Brom was speaking in general terms when he said that in Book One. Most dragons do die when their Riders do, or else they go mad. But not all. OR, they choose to live on in their Eldunarí. Brom just didn’t want to say anything about the Eldunarí then. A more nuanced explanation of this was given by Oromis and Glaedr when discussing the heart of hearts with Eragon and Saphira.”

Could we have just one bit of information about Book 4?
“Beware of red-eyed rabbits.”

Mike, do you know when Paolini will be telling us who that video winner is? The contest was a while ago, and he said after New Years. Or have I missed it? I apologize if I have.

    • Well, I wasn’t involved in this contest (it was operated by Random House) so I honestly have no clue.

However, I do know that Christopher is extraordinarily busy trying to finish Book 4, so it won’t happen over night. If they said after New Years, it probably shouldn’t be too long.

  • Ismail Aboulela

i have question for cp: i remember Angela saying that necromancy is the most unholy magic,as far as i know necromancy is generally brining corpses back to life and i thought that this was impossible.so can you shed some light on this ???
PLZ FINIS THE BOOK SOON I ALREADY READ EACH ONE 5 TIMES!!!!!

    • Christopher doesn’t visit comments, message boards, etc.

  • Guest

lol, beware of red eyed rabbits

  • SAND33P

This place has epic arguements, i could read these while i wait for book 4 🙂

  • Tuppylyn

I personally hated the movie… too many things were changed. I was severely disappointed. As to book 4, PLEASE HURRY! I’m going crazy for it. I was in line at the book store at midnight when book 3 went on sale and finished reading it in 2 days. I am in desperate need of my fix.

  • Zaid

i’ve read everyone’s comments abt CP delay for book 4. i kinda agree with most people that its really very long and seriously i’m tired of waiting. i started this book when i was in school and now i finished my uni. its been very long. CP atleast release the date for book 4 or some book art cover or anything related to book 4 other then no comment

    • Harmhar

I’m disappointed too. I started when I was a senior in high school and I needed all the pages for credit. I’m going to graduate from college this semester and had pretty much last month and half of this month off. Was hoping to read it then, but now I don’t really care if it comes out in the next 6 months cause I’m going to be busy.

      • Must be a boring life if you don’t have enough spare time within 6 months to read just one book. 🙁

      • Must be a boring life if you don’t have enough spare time within 6 months to read just one book. 🙁

  • Harmhar

I wonder if they plan on doing a midnight release again. When Brisingr came out, there were only about 25 people who showed up at my local Borders. It was kinda lame. I kinda think they regretted doing it.

  • RoZ-BuD

I respect that he’s spent so long writing a book so great as his ones just for all of us to read. Good for him… 🙂

  • notional nightmares

cp ure books are awesome cant wait for number 4 u are inspiring prson gd luck in life mate

  • Glaedr

I recently emailed Random House asking for a release date of the title of book 4. I wasn’t expecting a reply but this is the main part of the reply I got:

Thank you for contacting Random House, we appreciate your feedback and continued interest in our publications.
We do not currently have a working title or a release date scheduled for the fourth book in Mr. Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle.

(The rest of the email was just asking if I wanted to recieve emails if there was any news about CPs books. Can someone explain what they ment by ‘a working title’? Thanks

    • It means they haven’t officially announced a title yet.

  • SD

Aha! There’s no WAY Paolini would lose his fanbase! The hype around this book after the success of Brisingr, Eldest and Eragon is huge! I’m sure that Paolini won’t be losing fans for a reason as pathetic as some people can’t wait for an amazing piece of literature. Any silly person could write a book in a week, smashing all kinds of unsymbolized, not thought out crap onto a keyboard, but a really good author will put huge amounts of time and work into a novel, taking time to show things like forshadowing and symbolism that make a book more than words on some paper. To all the haters out there and the people that can’t sit still and wait for 5 minutes, you try writing a well thought out book that pleases fans around the world in a year. Never mind living life as well as writing. I’m sure Christopher Paolini doesn’t wake up in the morning every day to write for 8 hours. Paolini has succeeded in making a series where the books get BETTER as you read them, rather than finding huge success in the first book and sluffing off the rest because he can be sure people will buy them regardless of the time put into and quality of the book. So chill out people that just can’t wait, understand that this book will surpass the incredibilty of all the others and will surely be worth the long wait! 😀

  • Troggdor_dragonman

Ehh, it’s been like 3 years right?

  • Seris

Hey- I have an awesome idea! Let’s stand outside singing “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall” until he finishes writing! That ought to speed him up!

But guys, we’ve waited this long, right? We can wait just a little longer, really.

  • Nishantmehta2005

This is Awsome 🙂 Cant wait for the fourth Book goodness Great 😉 It’s been such a long time since i read the last one 🙂 Hope Christopher Releases this soon 🙂

  • no one

I’m not going to keep waiting for the book. I’m done with the series. It’s so stupid how he tries to say “oh im still working on it, im still working on it” Seriously, it’s been way too long. And if he keeps it up, he is going to lose most of his fan base. Peace out

    • kahn121

amen brother. this is so true. i think you just lost 2 of your old fans.

    • With that attitude, I’m not sure you’re much of a loss to the generally cool community we have here. See you in a week, though!

    • Gregory

You are ridiculously impacient. If you have read the series A Song of Ice and Fire by G.R.R.M you might not be so impacient, fans of ASOIAF are still waiting for the fifth book… 6 years later after waiting for the fourth one that was five years following the third. Was has it been for the Inheritance Cycle? A little over two years it seems. This is a normal wait time for any series unless you read Jim Butcher or Brandon Sanderson who put out 2-3 books a year.

  • emi1013

SO great. I just wish the book would hurry up and get written. My copies of the previous books are significantly less interesting after10+ readings…

  • Vlada_oulitskaia

Reading ‘a wizard of earthsea’ has given me a pretty good idea of what is going to happen in book 4. If it is taking this long to write the book it must be pretty damn good though!

  • Rafael A.B. Rix

    What about Eragon and Arya?

  • Nicholus Wolfwood

I thought it was originally supposed to be a trilogy, this wait is uncalled for

  • Anonymous

    What about Eragon and Arya??

  • gepcio12345

but… what about eragon and arya then… some romance maybe … please anwser 🙂

  • Jzic89

Has the question ever been asked about where Saphira’s (Brom’s Dragon) Eldunari resides? Does Galbatorix have it or is it possible the 7 words will bring it to Eragon?

  • Marty Dummitt

Omg I cannot wait for this book to come out. My wife has never seen me when I get a new inheritance book. I zone out from the world! Last time I finished a cp book I came to and realized I was no longer on my couch, but in a hospital being fed by iv!!! Lol jk. I would give anything just to have a day or month to count down to!!!! Maybe Paolini and co are waiting for the economy to get better. My news station showed a school that could only afford to keep its library open for textbook checkouts. People don’t exactly splurge on books during a recession (I don’t care about the BS on the news about it being over, no one here is getting hired). But personally (hopefully, praying to God), I think Paolini is taking his sweet time because he is writing a kick arse book. Or maybe he’s rolling around in a pile of money laughing at us. Dolla Dolla bill ya’ll.

  • Bassmonkey

Will you impatient, immature, demanding, greedy, unempathetic bastards just shut the fuck up!?
    (Sorry, Mike)
You have no IDEA how disgustingly horrible you’re being. Shame. SHAAAAME. If you’re bitching and complaining, you don’t DESERVE book 4. It’s alright for you, the readers, who can just kick back and read a book whenever you like. Christopher has no time at all to do the things that most of you can do at your leisure. Because there’s this thing, it’s called ‘making a living’. You realise that he has to get this right, because if he rushed it and it turned out crap, he’d lose his job and you guys would bitch and carry on about how crappy it was. There’s no pleasing you people! To you, it’s just a story. You don’t know shit. To the author a story is something s/he brings to life, their characters like children to them and their plot not a story they make up, but a story that they tell. Like any parent, an author strives to make their ‘children’s’ lives the best they can. If they screw up, then everyone will be affected negatively. There are good and bad parents, some people aren’t as good at it as others, and some can be over-protective or too clingy with their characters. (Resulting in desu desu kawaii fun time happy ending with rainbows and flowers and not a spot of death to be had. So it ends up like this: “Jerry, ol’ chap, would you like a spot of death?” “No thank you Frederick, my author’s a twit.”) Be thanksful CP is one of the good authors who knows how to write a story.
Yeah, it was a pretty bad analogy and probably doesn’t make sense, but whatever. The point is, it’s Christopher’s story, not yours. Each story you read, each book, each movie, each comic, each poem, each Eragon book is a gift, not your given right. Book 4 is NOT yours. You have no legitimate grounds to be demanding it, you have no right to have it, yet Christopher Paolini is giving it to you. And he shouldn’t, because you’re all being so ungrateful. So stop whining like children about how long it’s taking, all of you. “Aww, but he’s done the first three, he has to finish it” Ah, i do love the sound of people i want to decapitate with a croquet mallet then use them to mop up their own greedy blood and entrails then use hand grenades to blow ther bodies into itty bitty peices in the morning. Technically, he doesn’t have to do anything. Should he choose to, he could quit work any time, but we all know he won’t. Not because he cares for whiny little brats like yourselves, but because writers are artists dedicated to the craft of bringing worlds to life, and giving up on writing a story is like pulling the plug on a not-quite-dead realiative. And it’s SHAMEFUL. Frankly, people so ungrateful don’t deserve to know the ending. But you’ll get it anyway because it sounds to me like you people are spoilt little runts thatare far too accustomed to getting what you want, whenever you want. Why am i not incredibly pissed off at the slow rate of which this book is materialising? Because, my common sense is tingling. These days, that’s so rare it’s practically a super power after all.

Well i’m glad that’s off my chest. Sorry about the swearing and stuff, but people like that make me want to kick a small, cute, furry animal. And because i know some of you are so impatient you ouldn’t find time to reasd that long speel, here’s a shortened version: GROW A BRAIN!

    • Anonymous

just a thing or two I would like to point out, I dont like the whinners just as much as you but they have the right to share their opinion on the subject since it does relate to the site, and the second thing is that you say book four is not ours, but it is, hes writing it for us, his fans if he wasnt then he could just stop at any time and say screw it but he cant because to many people are depending on him (plublishers and other people) if he was writing it just for himself then he wouldnt publish it, he would just have it saved on his computer and read it whenever he wanted and never had to worry about the stress of publishers and money and fans, im not saying thats why hes writing it but im saying that that is the reason why he cant just stop. you do make valid points but i must say that this whole paragraph is you whinning about the whinners so your just as bad as they are.

    • Curr Resid

His book. Our money. He promised a trilogy, but delivered a cycle and an additional 3 year wait. People have a right to be upset. Unfortunately, we all can’t be perfect little patient elves.

    • Turtle

Cool. Arya’s angry side has arrived.

    • Stormbolt

      WELL SAID 🙂

    • Viva la barca

did you happen to notice that Christopher poalini takes ages to write an ameteur wriiten book? when other authors such as Robert Jorden wrote 14 books that are full of detail and he doesnt have stupid little phrases that poalini constantly use the only reason his first book was such a hit was because of his age that he wrote it he writes the same as he did when he first started the book and it makes it seem so childish

    • Kycharm

YOUR THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO SHUT UP YOU HAVEN’T A CLUE ABOUT ANYTHING DO YOU? WE WANT THE BOOK ALREADY IF J.K ROWLING CAN PRODUCE THOSE MASTERPIECES OF HARRY POTTER IN THE TIME SHE DID THEN SURELY HE CAN FINISH THIS ONE BESIDES UNLESS WE WOKE UP IN THE SOVIET UNION THEN WE HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BITCH THAT WHAT MAKES THIS LAND GREAT…..LATER

    • lucius91

You must be THE most bothered person i have ever seen. Get a hobby or something.

  • Mandy

    Yay!
I for one am very excited!
    I just hope Murtagh doesn’t die 🙁
    He’s my favorite character,
But I’m pretty sure he’s going to die some horrible tragic death

  • Anonymous

CP please take your time. There’s no reason why you should hurry up. The longer you take, the longer you’ll enjoy writing and taking breaks whenever you need them. In fact, waiting will teach some that writers need to time to consolidate ideas, improve their technique and to feel satisfied with their work.

Well at least this is my opinion

  • Aladora

    Hmmm….

Rereading the books, and when the Ra’zac tell Eragon that Galby has almost found ‘the name’ that made me think a bit.

What if ‘The Name’ is the name of the ancient language, and when he tries to use it it kills him? I’d laugh my ass of if that happened.

  • Kenjo

If he isnt careful CP could end up like Robert Jordan. The first published book of the wheel of time came out in 1990 and he never lived (unfortunately) to see the end of his epic. I understand CP needs some growing time but the wait is rediculous. I, like some of the other writers here and rapidly going of the boil and will stop looking for publication date soon.

    • Thats_How_Sue_C’s_it_:)

Kenjo, there are 14 books and a companion book of the WoT (wheel of time) world, (so 15 books in all) the world is unimagionable complex, 3 books breech the 1000pg mark barrier and the rest are like over 700pg long (except of the prequl). Also, the witing is also small and in his last years he knew he was going to die and so didn’t concentrate fully on finnishing but made sure there was enough notes so that someone else could finish the story if is should pass away. You cannot compare the two series this way..because a new book came out usually in a year or two years, the only time it didn’t was because he died and some else (brandon sanderson) took them up at request of RJ wife, hariet to finish the last book (which he split into 3). The reason they have been around for so long isn’t because he took 3-4 years to write each one it is because there are so many books in the series. Like before he found out about his illness 2005, Robert jorden had published 13 books in 15 years, which includes the companion guide thingy which he co-write, (and like i said above, look how big each book is!!) so it isn’t right to use this seires as a comparison in the way you have because this series has taken such a long time because of the sheer scope of it, not because it has taken him ages to write each book!! and that 20-25 year wait is totally worth it for the WoT books anyway, what is so long waiting that long?? Everytime i re-read the WoT series i litterally pick up new detials and forshadowing that i didn’t notice the previous read. and the long wait, the journey towards the end is way more important than the ending itself as the ending means nothing without the joureny towards the end… (if you care enough about what i mean i have posted a comment yearlier propally explaining about how the journey of the books are more imported than the ending and thats why people should stop moaning)

  • Crazy420 Chris

what i think happened is that he stopped writing the fourth book to put out his almanac and then returned to the fourth he is only one person and can only write so much and he is still very very young i have been a fan since i first read eragon and i am still waiting impaitently as the case may be for the fourth book to come out i just hope its some time soon cause for the last little bit he keeps saying that he sees the light at the end of the tunnel well i wanna see that light too C.P. keep up the work please work just a bit faster but please dont sacrifice the story to turn out a book thanks

    • guest

CP did’nt write the almanac, Mike Maculey did…..or am i wrong?

  • Ifrit

I don’t care what the hell the title is, or what the cover looks like. i just wanna read the damn book. At least give me a release date so i know when to go buy the book.

  • wanderer

Patrick Rothfuss (don’t quote me on spelling) wrote a fantastic book called The Name of the Wind…his second book is coming out in March. Maybe read that until CP finishes his epic. I love CP’s books, and PR has a very similiar feel to his. 🙂 Happy reading anyway.

  • Moviebuff

I have a question for C.P. Why didnt he get more envolved with the movie of the first book? Becasue that was a complete waist of time for the makers and the watchers. If they would have followed the book just a little it could have been epic.

    • Anonymous

Actually the moive did fairly well. It grossed over 75 million, last posted April 1, 2007, three award nominations, but the movie didn’t break even with it’s 100 million dollar budget. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449010/

Haha, I have to agree with both of you. The movie would have been EPIC if they had, I don’t know, READ THE BOOK maybe? Anyhow, It is now my most-hated movie of all time. But to be completely fair, the first time I watched the movie, I had not read the book, and I LOVED it!!! It was the whole reason I read the book. But once I had, the movie just seemed ridiculous to me. At least the movie brought new fans to inheritance.

You know, Twilight lacks a lot when you think about it. All the story line is is an idiot falling in love with a vampire, getting pregnant, and royally pissing off some mental ancient idiots. With a ton of crap in between. Eragon suffers from stuff that makes more sense, (Like getting impaled on a sword and then getting cursed) rather than getting pregnant. ;D

  • blovadova

random house has christopher by the u know whats..he doesnt delay THEY DO!!

  • Mdo97

i demand a reease date. how long must i keep re reading the original 3 books. come on people!

  • Arielle svitkona

Thank god this is coming out soon! I’ve been waiting three years to read it! Haha! What can I say? I’m hooked. 🙂

  • Blueguy_2282

I want the book out and I want it out now. Honestly we have been waiting forever. Everyone’s on edge and impatient, but then again its such a good story I wish i can read more of CP’s works in the future. This cycle is one of the best ever.

    • Your “I want the book out and I want it now” and your name (Blueguy) reminded me of the girl who turns into a blueberry in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 😛

      • wisemom

The Blueberry girl isn’t the one who “wants it now” – that would be Veruca Salt. By the way, you shouldn’t take it so personally when people complain about the book taking so long to come out and the lack of information. They are just venting – you have to admit, it’s a bit frustrating, especially for these younger aged fans. I’m checking here because my (almost) 11 year old son has been asking – I guess I don’t have an answer for him. He’s moved on to Rick Riordan’s new books – Lost Hero and Red Pyramid. Even the hardcover version of Lost Hero has info. re: the next book in that series – “Coming Fall 2011 – Neptune’s Son” (or something). So you see – younger people of course want it now – it’s hard to wait when you’re young, time moves much more slowly.

        • Unfortunately a lot of the most rude comments are made by the older audience. I’ve had to delete some extraordinarily inappropriate comments made by people with entitlement issues. I don’t take the complaining seriously — I didn’t write the books after all — but I do take the rudeness and disrespect a bit seriously and try my best to remove it. There’s certainly ways to voice an opinion without getting immature or inappropriate. The people who stay civil are always welcome.

    • Bassmonkey

Haha, Queen anyone? I want it all, and i want it now!

so many people go on here about the long wait… it has been what, 6-7 years?? thats not that long, espesially for an establishing author like CP who is relitivly a young author, new to the world of writing..

so if you think 7 years are long then think of some other series like the wheel of time books… they have spanned around 25 years and it is still not finnished!!! they don’t go whinning about it… they want the next book to come out ofcourse (they are pretty darng good like) but most of the fans have been waiting 25 years for the completion, whats another 2 years to that?? waiting is part of the fun, the bitter sweet fun like.. it is when theorys can be imagined and debated, which creates a story of its own. Isn’t it wonderful how one persons writing and imagonation can affect people so greatly that they come together and theorise??? one imagintion allows a whole load of other peoples imagination to create and grow… so whats wrong with that??? if all of the books can out a month after eachother, then there is no antisipation, no time for the books to grow on you… to feel excited for the wait.. sites like this wouldn’t exist as people wouldn’t feel the need to come together to share their mutial interest… to get a scarp of news, small but exciting..!

so you whinny people get some perspective and stop ranting a opinon that everyone has already heared before..! shhheeesh like!

    • Christian

Yes, but the wheel of time has 14 books and a prequel in the series compared to four, and the wheel of time books are hundreds of pages longer.

      • Thats_How_Sue_C’s_it_:)

well 13 so far and a prequel 😛
yeah point taken but the point I was making out was that the series has spanned over 25 years and it still hasn’t ended and some people have been waiting for all that time for the ending.. and havn’t complained, as they know its the journey towards the ending, not the actual ending itself, which is important. Anyone could just pick up the last book (that’s when its out like) and read it but it means nothing, it’s the journey there, the bitter sweet feelings knowing that the story is getting completed but then there are no more books… it’s the build up and excitment and inspiration that is created in that time which is the most enriching, not the knowlegde of the ending..

So the main point I was making was why are people moaning? it’s only been 6-7 years but because of the span of 6-7 years, a whole comunity has been created, theories debated, which gets you excited and allows to books to grow on you, allows passions and imaginations to be released. Like I said, that’s one of the best things about them, and without the journey so many of us eragon fans have had, the ending wouldn’t mean as much, and if that journey is longer then the better, as the feeings are kept alive for longer and have time to blossm and expaned. Why rush for the ending when the journey towards the end has been so great..?? (yes, I know very cheesey but thats the point i was making)

    • Christian

Suppose werecats are now allies of the Vardens. If they know things that no other creatures do, then their help will be of use to overthrow Galby. Do all werecats that the abilities of Solembum? What exactly happened before the king of the werecats decided fighting with the Varden? At least this can be infered: Eragon may have fought against Murtagh again when the werecats joined Nasuada and Orik. Glaedr has not woken up yet by the time the werecats came to Nasuada (othewise he may have came into contact with Eragon and Saphira).
A new rider. The dragon definitively cannot hatch for someone in the Empire. If so, the Vardens wouldn’t really have hopes to keep fighting. I’m sure there are secrets and knowledge that only races such as the Grey Folk may have. Oromis was really old and wise, but not enough to give information about the Rock of Kuthian. This means that Eragon will have to look for them as soon as he gets a chance when being among the Varden. Finally, has anyone thought or read of the reason why Eragon should leave Alagäesia? Maybe the soul of Eragon or Saphira will be altered by using the vault of souls or the rock of kuthian, which could be a reason for Eragon and Saphira for departing Alagäesia.

I have read the cycle many times and i have come to the conclusion that the vault of souls is where the Arcaena are located. Jeod hints at the fact that Heslant the monk was apart of this group and he wrote the Domia abr Wyrda. Also Jeod claims that this sect “dedicated themselves to collecting every piece of information in the world(Eldunari or something equally important?) and preserving it against time when they believed an unspecified catastrophe will destroy all the civilazations in Alagaesia(i.e the present eragon is in). i would love for some thoughts 😀

Now that I am both older than Eragon and am on to better books written with more meaning and sophistication, I would like to say goodbye!

Mike, well done for making such an incredible fan site, I do not blame you for the lack of news, like everyone seems to, and wish you have continued success.

Also, thanks CP for inspiring me when I was 11, and until I was about 14.

I am afraid that I have given up on waiting. And this is the last time I will ever check this site.

The book will come out, and good luck to those who wait.

I have moved onto bigger and better books and bigger and better things.

I third it I am twenty two years old and have been an avid fan of the Eragon series. I will wait until the end of time for the fourth book if I have to. I love C.P. and all the heard work he puts into his world. It is because of him that I have begun writing my own books. I one day hope to have them published. I hope C.P. takes as long as he needs to get it right, otherwise he will not be doing the series justice.

    • Mdo97

see a perfect reason to hurry up the writing!

    • See you in a week!

WAiting so long to realease it kind of made me lose interest in the books as i have had to move onto other books and series.

When Brisingr was released in my country, I still had to wait one more year to read it because the price of CP’s books are really high here in Mexico. So, I don’t see why you all have to become desperate. Probably, he has completed 80% of the book. If so, we may have the book in our hands by the end of the year. Otherwise, I guess we will find what the title or cover of the book will be. 🙁 I just wish I could afford to get an Eragon’s guide to Alagësia copy.

You don’t consider that insulting? The comment said he hasn’t checked in two months and since then there has been “nothing to report.” There have been tons of articles since then….if I’m not mistaken around 8 or 9.

          • BlkJokerz

  • Constant Reader

about the long wait….anyone else remember how long between book three and book four in SK’s dark tower? i was a lucky one, i didn’t start reading the dark tower till about four years before book four came out, so not nearly as long a wait as some had….what was it, about twenty years? a book is done when it’s done. also, as a new(er) author, CP may spend more time answering questions/fan letters than writing stories, a problem SK addresses by using his “dear constant reader” afterwords. i love the inheritance cycle, and yes, i want to know how it ends, but until then, i can have a wonderful time making up my own endings…like: i think Roran is going to be the next king. heh, happy reading everyone!

  • Shruikan Stud

Book four is going to have so much stuff in it!

JUST IN CHISTOPHER PAOLINI HAS JUST REALIZED THAT BOOK 4 WILL BE TOO BIG, AND HAS DECIDED TO SPILT THE BOOK INTO TWO HALVES!!!!! Deja vu anybody???

  • JerodRomanowski

The most important thing about the wait for this book is that I find myself not even looking for it as often as I do and pretty soon I will not look at all. I Would rather just happen to come across it casually in the future. I guess this means that I went from being a fervent fan to being ambiguous about the whole long wait. Its one thing to take your time to get it right on a project, but it is a whole other thing as a writer to drag it out that all you have left is the fanatics that are on the fringe. I also think that waiting this long is not a very wise business decision, when it comes to marketing(just like letting the Eragon movie come out as it was)

    • I hate to sound like a jerk but I really doubt anyone realizes that Random House is run by people who make business and publicity decisions for a living. These people know what they’re doing a lot more than half the people in these comments purporting to know how to run businesses better than the largest publisher in the world do.

      • Whiteknight1812

yet mike how can you say the are really caring about this book or even CP on the random house web site CP’s bio is basically cut and pasted from Alagaesia.com in which both bios haven’t been updated since before brisingr was published, it show neglect on the half of random house and one can infer that if this is receiving minimal attention what else is

        • Using an author bio as an example of negligence is pretty hilarious.

      • lucius91

Really mike? But aren’t we the people that they are making the decisions for and it seems to me that they are just sitting on the title and cover of the book for no reason. Mike, with all due respect can you list any plausible reasons as to why they wont even reveal the title yet? I can’t come up with any myself. Well i can come up with any that would help with their “business and publicity decisions”. Such a sad thing that the largest publisher in the world is stuffing around with a great book rather than keeping all CPs readers on edge by constantly giving us some incentive.

        • I have no answer for what the delay may be. My best guess is that they want to avoid releasing the title and cover too far before publication so that the book isn’t forgotten in the wait. A publisher, movie studio, game company, etc all have the same goal in mind when promoting a new product: keep the buzz going up until release. They will want to release a title and cover and keep buzz going from that day until the day the book releases rather than risk the buzz dying off.

          • Snysly

So what you are saying is that the publishers are worried that the book will not be ready for a while, so they will not release the title for a while. And also, one question,

          • Snysly

sorry about that, tried to log in before i posted. As for the question, If CP is not even done writing book 4 yet, does that mean that we will still have to wait for the book to go through editing before we see the book?

          • My guess is as good as yours, but it isn’t unheard of for the editing process to begin before a book is done. If Random House worked out a schedule with Christopher where they were editing chunks of the book that were already written, it’d probably take less time to edit. Whether or not they did this, I have no idea.

Keep in mind that that option also has its draw backs. Authors are usually very involved in the editing process. There’s a lot of re-reading and re-writing, and even more back-and-forth with the editor. An author can’t edit and write at once, so he’d always be doing one or the other.

          • Bassmonkey

Which is precisely why complaining and whining in here isn’t going to get these people their book any faster. If they want crap written in five minutes, direct them to Twilight.

          • Persianwifefinder

            oh go get laid

          • Snysly

Thanks for shedding some light on the matter. I was wondering some of this myself.

          • Keep in mind that I’m not involved in any of the decision making at Random House. The posts I make are educated guesses based on past experiences.

          • simon

They might be delaying the release until the last Harry Potter Movie bonanza hits in July, then they will have the spotlight all to themselves in terms of the marketed audience for this book. That makes more sense to me. The culmination of this cycle needs to be delivered just right, if done so, it could rekindle the whole series for the next generation that has not read the books yet. Thoughts?

You’re right, you do sound like a jerk. I think the cynical you is better.
CP has been saying that HE has NOT yet finished writing… so, what choice does Random House guys have but to stay put.
Really, you should get your facts right first.

        • When I sound like a jerk it’s usually because I’ve lost patience fielding the same insults and already-answered questions on a daily basis.

        • jumpergirl93

Are you kidding? Random House has plenty of choice! The cover art is done and CP said that they might give a release date soon. The fact that he hasn’t finished writing yet doesn’t mean that Random House can’t release any information. You get your facts right first.

      • dontreallycare

What you fail to realize is that the people writing these comments (or FANS) are the ones who make random house the biggest publisher in the world, therefore their statements should be heeded by said publisher.

        • I’m pretty sure Random House won the “biggest publisher in the world” title from a lot of hard work and brilliant authors all coming together. Yes consumers play a HUGE role in making or breaking a publisher, but if Random House (or any publisher) based all of their decisions on the will of their fans, it’d be disastrous. 😛

@JerodRomanowski. You hit that right on the nose. Most of the readers of his inheritance cycles are young adults who have enjoyed the series so far. Now most of them are probably getting older and moving on to read more mature, educational works, and or adult sci/fi. By dragging it out this long I think he has lost a lot of his original fans. Who cares though right? He will still make plenty of money off of it regardless, so when he decides to write his next book, he can take even longer, maybe 10 years or so. I cant believe people are discussing whats to come of a 5th book. Haha he hasnt even finished the 4th one…

it’s about time this f*cking fourth book gets released. How can it last 3 years before you finally finish the last book. He should finish first the final book before writing all those stupid guides and almanacs, by the way, they just contain all the same explanations like you find them literally in the books, or does he write these guides for demented people? So, Christopher Paolini, I hope you don’t get out of your house before you finished that damn book! And then you let it first of all translate in dutch ’cause it ‘s my main language. But I’ll be happy enough when you release in English.

    • Why ask a question that obviously wouldn’t get answered?

      • Anonymous

Im sure Saphira is all the woman Eragon can handle…

    • Why ask a question that obviously wouldn’t get answered?

    • Mr. Anonymous

      Love your name, man!

  • Caden Frazee0

I love the Inheritance cycle I got hooked on Eragon then I had to read them all! I’m in sixth grade and i just finised Brisinger and I can’t wait untill they release it in stores! The Inheritance Cycle are MUST READ BOOKS! Christopher is a gerat writer and fills his books with adventure, excitement, and imagination.

Any plans for another Q and A in the near future?

I’m going insane waiting for the 4th book to come out! Since it’s taking Chris this long to come out with a book, we all know that its going to be really, really good! One thing that I know is that when ever this book come out, I’m going to lock myself away in my room and not come out until I’m finshed with the book!

    • Greentea

I find that it helps me by reading other books rather than obsessing over book 4. Dx
I mean seriously! The inheritance cycle isn’t the only series around. There are even better books to be obsessing over. -no offense intended-

It’ll come out when it comes out, and if thats in five years, then good! Whatever long it takes Paolini.

  • L_Dizle31

Look dont rush and put out a stupid book like harry potter and the deathly hallows that just ends it to shut everyone up but quit screwing around already with projects like the guide to alegesia and finish the damn series first. you are going to lose a ton of fans not build any more suspense.

  • Fionavar

Has anyone else noticed how much better each book is? I just started reading them, so I read one, two and three fairly close together. Book one seemed like a pale imitation of LOTR with dragons thrown in, but they got deeper and more complex with each book. I’m a Twilight fan too, but it’s very superficial compared to these. Guy Gavriel Kay is still my favourite fantasy writer, but CP comes dam close. (Tolkien is kind of on a plane apart — he;s the BEST.)

    • Christopher Paolini

      • Bassmonkey

        IT’S A SIGN!

      • rejon

Oh! So you DO check these comments! In that case… Hi, Mr Paolini! how ‘re ye doin’ ? Say, don’t you think you think “no comment” is becoming one of your standard sentences? Why don’t you say anything else? like “Too bad! No comment” or “you will get your answer as soon book IV is released on (insert release date)” or why don’t you use smileys? 🙂 🙁 B) 😛 😉 these are a phew basic smileys, give more emotions to your sentences! There is a lot more stuff I want to tell you Mr Paolini but I will say those things when I see you answered this comment (even if it is “no comment” !)
        Bye for now Mr Paolini!!

  • Matthewlogothetis

Maybe the shadow mentioned in the Guide is some higher power that Galby serves. (a la the Fallen One in Starcraft.)

  • Hobo bob

When is the next question and answer? Because I have a question. If you know someone’s true name, can you order them to change their true name?

    • OWN

dont think so because u have to change who you are before your true name changes. i guess if you ordered them to completely change themselves that would work…but then you wouldn’t know thier true name anymore and that defeats the purpose of even controlling someone with thier true name

  • guest

beware of red eyed rabbits….hmmm……SHADE RABBIT!!!???????

    • Anonymous

Or maybe another creature such as werecats. CP once said that were cats can take any form. What if there’s a devil werecat which is a spy and goes among the Varden taking information for Galby.

      • abbey

maybe solembum becomes a shade. I don’t even care just GIVE US THE BOOK. please

        • Bassmonkey

Or maybe Solembum turns into a red eyed killer rabbit? And tries to kill them all. And then Eragon will cry because his arm got gitten off and Arya will slap him and say ‘get over it, it’s just a flesh wound.’

  • Benthenson

So the only thing that really caught my attention is that he said “•Galbatorix is the only other living Rider on Alagaesia. No surprises hidden in any more forests as far as secret Riders go!”
So what does that say about Murtagh? HaveI missed something???

I fell into the Inheritance Cycle when I was in 5th grade, and I still love it! At that time, my other fictional obsession – Harry Potter – was still an active series. Since it concluded and Brisingr came out in 2008, I’ve been super anxious for Book 4! I simply cannot wait for it! I really wish that the series would be continued in film too. Although it was a lot different, Eragon the movie was good 🙂

    • Caden

I agree Book 4 is going to be a must read book. I also started the Inheritance Cycle when I was in 5th grade. I am in 6th grade and I just finished Brisinger and i loved it. I also liked the Harry Potter series and I finished them all in 4th grade. I just can’t stand waiting just like everyone else and I hope C.P. finishes soon!

      • Impaciently Waiting……

okay well i read all of the Harry Potter books in about a month in 7th grade. Now im in 8th grade and ive already read the series like 3 times and am about to explode because of all of the anxiety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Mr. Anonymous

What are you talking about?! The Eragon movie was horrible! I don’t usually say that about movies. Prob bc I compared it to the book…

    • Alonso

You don’t mean that. The movie was a fiasco. I only hope that if they make more Eragon movies, they will even try to follow the key aspects of the book.

  • Spyro_and_cynder

when is the fourth book coming out I CANT WAIT hopefully soon. what is the name of the book?

    • Trust me when I say that if we had any of that information available, you wouldn’t have to ask in the comments. 😉

      • Fantasy Writer

I would just like to say to you Mike, GREAT job handling this site and keeping your composure. I’m sure it’s been irritating with some of this brattiness. Just keep us all updated! 🙂

      • Alexandre

The name of the fourth book will be Eldunari and it will be released between September 2011 and December 2011 ! Check this if you want to know more : http://inheritancebook4.com/the-official-name-of-book-4/

        • Anonymous

Just because the domain names were bought doesn’t mean that is going to be the title of book 4. Many publishes will buy domain names ahead of time just in case. Years before the last few Harry Potter books came out, many domain names were bought up; some were to just throw the fans off guard. I’d be willing to bet if you search that a lot of domain names were bought before Brisingr came out, not just Eldunari.

          • GUEST

that is true about domain names but in that you tube video he does start to say eldunari

          • I watched it multiple times and he could have been saying Eldest. I’ve had many conversations with Christopher about the books and it is not uncommon for him to confuse the book title he’s stating out of haste or the fact that it probably all seems like one very long book in his head.

          • OromistheWise

No, no no. Confuses the book name sure. CP was talking about life after the cycle. The theory seems to base itself solely on domain which Random House could have just bought so that there wouldn’t be a fansite called as eldunari.com or eldunari.net, etc. So the domain proof isn’t very strong. However when CP slips up in that video, its far more probable he slips up using the name of the fourth book(which he say he has named before Brisingr publication) rather than eldest which does not have anything to do with what he is talking about. I am not being very coherent but why would CP mention Eldest when he is clearly talking about book 4. More likely he accidentally mentions the name of the fourth book rather eldest which isn’t connected to the topic. This is I think a more solid argument to base the theory on.

Though we all are clutching at straws. One think the man really well knows is to keep a secret!!!

          • I said this somewhere else in the comments, but you probably didn’t catch it (there’s a lot of comments here!):

As you can imagine, I’ve had MANY conversations with Christopher. It isn’t entirely uncommon for him to accidentally reference the wrong book, i.e. say “Eldest” when he meant “Brisingr”, or “Eragon” when he means “Eldest”, or even “Brisingr” when he means “Book 4”. It has happened before, and I specifically recall it happening during one of our conversations at Comic-Con back in July.

Yes it’s possible that he slipped up. However, I’ve never once seen Christopher make a slip-up about books and spoilers in six years.

          • OromistheWise

True. True. What else can we do but theorize? One thing however, i feel somewhat certain that the title is Eldunari… or eldunarya. One thing is it fits the E(letter starting thing) but so do so many other words. It’s pretty frustrating. And also since Eldunari is very crucial to the series, i think that it is quite possible that it’s the title.

One more theory that we wait eagerly to find out whether true or not… like so many else.

Away from the topic, Some Wheel of time Books, those written by Brandon Sanderson finish all the editing, printing, the marketing stages and all, within some three months of the author submitting the final draft. Somewhere you said that it takes closer to six months.
It can be sooner. Hopefully it is.

          • Heath139

Sorry guys, I agree with Mike, It could easily have been a slip up for Eldest. We all get confused when something becomes this much a part of our lives. CP is likely living eating and breathing this story right now, Heck, with that much info going through my mind I would slip back too. Knowing the names of my children doesn’t stop me from accidentily calling them by the wrong one. Besides how do we know that the title is not the name of the Green Dragon?? BTW, Mike, You’re doing a great job!

          • Alexandre

But you forget that the word Eldunari was invented by Christopher Paolini. No one but a select few (CP’s family and the editors at Random Hous) knew of the existence of the word before the publication of Brisingr. And these domains were bought 3 MONTHS before the release of Brisingr. This probably coincides with the time where he named book 4, because remember, originally, there were only 3 books planned, and its name was supposed to be Brisingr. So he had to invent a name for the 4th book.

          • Anonymous

It is true CP invented the word but Random House might have bought a lot of domain names at the same time.

It would be a great name for Book 4 and I’m sure we will find out in a few months.

          • Alexandre

But the thing is, we don’t know WHO bought these domain names, they paid an extra in order to be kept anonymous, which is a rare thing indeed. The fact you assumed that Random House had bought it just proves the theory right ! That’s what makes it more intriguing ! You see, as I said earlier, only CP, his family and the editors at RH knew of the word. Also, the domain name is not currently used. Who would buy 3 domain names (Eldunari.com Eldunari.net Eldunari.org), pay 50$ a year each and not use them ? Also, they were all bought on the same day.

          • Anonymous

There is one other person who knows of the word ‘Eldunari’, that is Peter Buchman, the screenwriter of Eragon.

Peter probably knows about Eldunari because in one of the interviews he did about the movie, he said Christopher told him the whole story before he wrote the screenplay. In explaining the story, Eldunari had to come up.

As for not using the sites, it is a minor expense for the company to sit on those domain names and once the book is out and if it is not named Eldunari, then they’ll let the names go or maybe even sell them.

Look up other words from the series; Brisingr is owned by someone and is not being used either.

          • I do not know this for a fact, but I would be willing to bet money that Christopher did not share the entirely plot of the four books in depth with the screen writer of the movie.

          • It isn’t uncommon for people to buy up domains that relate to popular works. There are entire businesses built around purchasing domain names that they think will become valuable in the future. I would not base an entire book name theory (and I especially wouldn’t use it as solid evidence of the fact or go out of the way to use the word “certainty” while “confirming” this “fact”) based on loose domain evidence.

Trust me when I say that I want the name of Book 4 as much as you guys do, however after doing this for over six years now, I know much better than to base theories on domain whois data. 😛

          • Alexandre

But you must admit that the fact that the buyer whised to be kept anonymous is quite suspect…Almost nobody pays extra for this. This is the first time that when I do a whois search the buyer name is hidden. As for the domains about Brisingr, they were all bought after the release of the book whereas the domain name Eldunari were all bought 3 months BEFORE the release of the third book, when almost nobody knew about the very existence of the word Eldunari (word that CP invented). Random House might very well have decided to not use them and stop paying for them after the release of book 3. The same thing will probably happen with book 4. They might decide to use it for its release, but then they’ll stop paying for it too.

          • Uhhh… not sure where you get your information but you’re so very wrong. MANY people pay extra to hide their personal information. Why? Spam is insanely prevelant these days and people don’t want their names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails being out there for spammers and scammers. There are entire companies build around selling private domain services.

Paying an extra $8 to $10 a year to make your information private is NOT suspicious and is incredibly common.

          • GuyWhoKnows

ah, but one thing is left out right? Only Random House employies or Paolini himself could have bought the site. They were bought 3 months before brisingr’s release. So, why keep it running if you dont plan on using it in the future? 😉

          • GuyWhoKnows

just to add to the oppisite side of the argument-
both brisingr.com and eldest.com are not in use… atleast by random house.

          • Alexandre

It might simply be because the publisher couldn’t buy it…This domain name has been the property of ENOM INC. since 2005. Also, for the name Eldest…it being a very common word, it’s no surprise its been bought since 1999. Also, if note that these are not anonymous, like Eldunari.com and Eldunari.net and etc.
It could be that they decided to buy these domains because they planned to create a website dedicated to book 4, with a count down on it, news updates and etc.
Also, as I said earlier, the fact that all 3 of them were bought on the same day, 3 months before the release of Brisingr, when no one besides CP, his family and Random House knew of the existence of the word…I find the timing too perfect to be only a random coincidence. If it wasn’t bought by Random House, then it means that someone else on Earth invented the same word, and for a strange reason decided to buy the domain names related to it, and wished to be kept anonymous…and he did all that at the exact time CP would have decided of a name for book 4. I find that very hard to believe.

          • Publishers have a habit of buying up many domain names that could be related to potential books in the future to throw fans off their tracks. For example, JKR’s team bought up multiple domain names for future books, all of which were fake, to get fans talking and to keep them off the trail.

It’s also possible that it was purchased for other reasons, such as promo campaigns (like Vroengard Academy). Again, I’ve been doing this for a very long time now and would never base my theories solely on a domain registration. 😛

          • Two years, or $20 per domain per year, is “pocket change” to the largest publisher in the world.

        • Mchl_Andrew

This evidence does seem pretty weird…he actually did slip in the interview, however i”m not exactly sure he was saying “Eldunari”

          MIKE
What do you think? Is this a good title possibility?

          • Alexandre

Mike probably already knows the release date and the name of book 4…he simply can’t tell us ! In an Interview, CP said that they were good friends.

As for your question, the only other possibility would be for him to have almost said “Eldest”. But in that case it would have sounded like El-deh. In the interview, if you listen carefully, it sounds a lot like El-duh…Eldunari !

          • While I appreciate my friendship with the Paolinis, I do not know the name or release date of Book 4. I know that a name exists and I can guess a Book 4 release date, but neither of these things are told to me. I also don’t know any more about Book 4 than you all do.

          • Glaedr

It says in the inheritance forums in the ‘book 4 title and release date’ section in your post Mike that Random house confirmed the rumour of the title being Eldunari as false, so it can’t be Eldunari. I watched the video where Cp says ‘eld’ then rephrases the sentence. I believe he got mixed up and started to say Eldest

          • Alexandre

Imagine yourself for just a moment in the place of Random House : If people had discovered the official name of one of your most popular series before its release, would you simply tell them : “Wow, good job ! You’re very talented at finding unrealeased book names !” Of course not ! You’d probably say something like that (which I believe is what they did say) : “There has been of rumour that the official name of the fourth book of the inheritance cycle written by Christopher Paolini was released. This is not the case. When it is, Random House will publish a communiqué stating the fact. Until then, it is only rumour and speculation.”
They never clearly stated that Eldunari wasn’t the name of book 4.
But I might be wrong. If you can find me the direct link poining to there extact words…well then I’ll have to admit that Eldunari isn’t the name of book 4.

          • Oscar_gonzalezgil

Mike, which is your guess for book 4 release date??

        • Mr. Anonymous

We will find out. If you are right we’ll have your word in record here. Now that would be awesome!

          • Alexandre

Indeed it would be. Sadly, I cannot take credit for finding the name of book 4, this belongs to the guys at http://www.inheritancebook4.com
And as for my guess for its release…well, others have made the same one too. But it’d be really nice if I was right in both cases !! 🙂

        • lloydy39

seriously guys cylce through the interview to 7.50 and listen to what he nearly says the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BUplwiVPOI&feature=related he nearly says Eldunari and it cant be eldest bcoz this is after eldest is released

          • Yeah you’re right, Christopher would never talk about Eldest after Eldest was already released!

            (^^ Sarcasm)

          • Bassmonkey

            9:26 He… he’s a pyromaniac….

        • Bassmonkey

You’re an idiot. It’s been explicitly stated countless times that the title is NOT Eldunari.

          • Bassmonkey

Besides, in that video you can hear he doesn’t say ‘Eldun’, he says ‘Elder’

          • Alexandre

You should know that insulting people is not the best way to promulgate your ideas.
Instead, try presenting arguments : They’re a great help when it comes to changing people’s mind. As for what you are refering to, here are the exact words used by the publisher :
            A Note from the Publisher:
It has recently come to our attention that a Facebook group has posted a cover and title for Book 4 in the Inheritance cycle. Please note that this is not the official cover and title for Book 4 and was not created by the publisher. The cover and title for Book 4 have not yet been announced.
            (3/2/2009)
This in no way proves, or belies the fact that the name of book 4 might be Eldunari.
This is a THEORY. It is, in my own opinion, the MOST probable name so far. Until proven otherwise, I will continue to use it as such. You are most welcome to disagree with it, and even present arguments that I will try my best to counter.

    • Trust me when I say that if we had any of that information available, you wouldn’t have to ask in the comments. 😉

  • Ricardo Araújo

Meh, waiting for the book for so many years (i bought the first one a few weeks after it reached portugal), is kinda tiring, but for the amount of pages we usually see on the books, i’m sure it will be worth it. Very interesting the fact that it’s possible that a new book will come after 4. A view of the riders most glorious times would be amazing….

  • trixx30

oh by the way i’m 30 and have been reading fantasy all my life i read lord of the rings at 11, sorcerers stone at 17 and ergon at 24 all kids books ,you never grow out of it. and young kids will always read great books no matter when they were written.

    • Bassmonkey

Philosopher’s Stone is a much cooler title.

  • trixx30

It took tolkien almost a life time to write the hobbit and lord of the rings. Great works don’t just happen over night!

    • Feanorruler

Am i gettin it right that you`re comparing The Inheritance cycle to LOTR? I like Christopher’s work very much, but it is (as nearly all fictional books) nothing compared to LOTR. Not only because LOTR is probably the most original fantasy book of the last hundred years, but rather for the depth which makes middleearth almost real and most of it all the never surpassed art of storytelling Tolkien had.

      • Brett0149

u can like like LOTR but dont be hatin on the inheritance cycle cuz as far as im concerened it is WAY better

        • Josharnold1

It’s all opinion anyway… *sigh* Why can’t we all just get along?

      • Renke

That’s absolutely true! Tolkien made a hole fictional language up, our CP just made it up when he’s writing so we can only read the language when he used it somewhere in his story. and at the in the litle dictionnairy. besides that language I do also support the things you said

      • Aloka

        Go Feanorruler! 🙂

  • Fantasy Writer

Okay, I definitely want to read the fourth book like everyone else because I love the series. However…to those who keep saying, “I’m getting tired of waiting for the 4th book,” and blah blah blah, you will still read the fourth book anyway. Generally, most readers don’t know what it takes during the writing process and I’m glad C.P. didn’t come out with utter garbage like Ms. Stephanie Meyer. So Shut Up!!!

    • Jarnunvosk

I don’t know what you’re complaining about. Here in Nazi Germany, those comments get deleted fairly quickly.

      • Fantasy Writer

        Cheeky, cheeky, Jarnunvosk! 😛

        • Jarnunvosk

It’s true. I’m not sure how often They check (“They” meaning whoever deletes the Bad Comments) but everytime I mention how it shouldn’t take this long for Paolini to transcribe the rest of Return of the Jedi into Book 4, those comments get deleted. I suppose They have complete and total power as to what gets said, but I think I have the right to make my views on the matter known. After all, I took the time to buy each book, read and cherish it, compare every plotline to Star Wars, criticize the distinct and overt similarities, and still I love this series. (Not as much as I love Star Wars, but I am biased.)

        • Jarnunvosk

          This, I find interesting.
“Unfortunately a lot of the most rude comments are made by the older audience. The people who stay civil are always welcome.”
In my comment about Inheritance = Star Wars & Inheritance is shorter than the last four Harry Potter books and is taking much longer than they did to be published, I may have used one or two cuss words. Not as bad as the guy above who calls commenters “impatient, immature, demanding, greedy, unempathetic bastards” and tells them to “just shut the fuck up” and to quit “bitching,” IMHO, but hey, that guy is defending the long wait and I made the point that if Paolini was playing Rowling’s game, Book 4 would have been published by last July. In order to have Inheritance be the same length as the last four Potter books, Book 4 would have to be 1200 pages long (or was 1300? oh well) and because we all know it won’t be, that excuse it out the window. With all the heavy basis on Star Wars from the previous novels, I will probably have a heart attack if a major villain doesn’t off Galbatorix and redeem himself. And Mike, I’m so, so sorry if this comment was overly immature or inappropriate. I mean, hey, Bassmonkey can get away with inappropriate comments as long as he apologizes, so maybe I should try it, too.

          • Jarnunvosk

Also, my earlier comment that was deleted (despite the minimum of actual bashing, if I remember my own post correctly (I do.)) was not posted by older audiences, and I even mentioned that I was 11 when the first book came out. So maybe I’m just bitter that I’ve had multiple comments deleted that weren’t inappropriate or TOO immature, but didn’t get the honor of recognition for it.

          • potterforpresident

did you happen to notice how both star wars and harry potter were a much bigger hit

    • Thesupertoad

I am not saying that Stephanie Meyer is a great writer but the story is good. That could also be said about CP. Cant everyone just stop the hate.

Are you serious? Stephanie Meyer’s only success was the Host. the Tw*l*ght books are written ok-ish but the story is terrible. TERRIBLE I say! A 150 yr old pedophilic sparkly vampire and an egotistical “werewolf?” and a rag doll? The entire relationship is based on Edward’s good looks and Bella’s SMELL. There is nothing romantic about it. and in case you are wondering I DO have the right to talk about Tw*l*ght because I HAVE read the books. And I’m never reading them again.

        • Peacelover

So much anger I fill so sorry for you.

          • Bassmonkey

Such bad typo, i fill so sorry for you 😛

      • Thesupertoad

I wasnt talking about stopping the hate of twilight but all hate.

        • Bassmonkey

Not gunna happen, hun. Anger, twihards and the inability to learn from one’s own mistakes are among many things the human race will never rid itself of. Tis’ a fact of life.

      • Fantasy Writer

Simply put, Stephanie Meyer’s writing is garbage. This isn’t hate, this is the truth (which is backed by plenty of book critics and readers). I laugh when people say “stop the hate” when they think that someone is attacking another person. I’m sure that Stephanie Meyer is a lovely human being and I applaud that she has changed her life. But other than that, I can criticize her writing (which I find mechanical, stilted, and contrived) all I want.
And I would love C.P. to NOT follow her example so he can finish Book 4 gracefully. Thanks.

      • Bassmonkey

Actually i found Twilight cliche and annoying. And can’t people like SMyer write about something other than vampires, demons, and/or any other sort of mythical creature of foreboding and utter doom? If not, then can they not turn them into desu desu kawaii fun time sparkly rainbow vegetarian boyfriends?

        • Anonymous

i must say i find you to be rude, but maybe these people write about vampires because they like vampire and other mythological creatures, wow who’d of thought

          • friz

Hey if you want a none pathetic vampire book with plent of mythos then go read Gail Z Martin’s books, they are good, growen up and have none of that cliche shit.

  • sharktail

yes side stories, love something like that, would like to see rise of Galbatorix … but release of the fourth book would awsome!

  • someone…

dude’s stfu, if you think you can do it faster, write your own story then. ever tried to write a story? i’ts a lot more difficult than you think. but, i have to say, it’s taking a long time now, but maybe it’s a thick book 😛
but i hope the fourth book is going to come out soon.

  • taiga

i agree with everyone about how long christopher and randomhouse are taking to publish or at least let us know when and what its called. I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long, that its beginning to be a bit of a joke at how long its taking. i can understand writing a book is complicated and can be long, but chris, you have written 3 out of 4 books so far, c’mon stop making us all wait for the 4th!

    • Eirik Engene

I think ur being a bit mean to him!
Try to picture the work he has to do with the last book and the pressure that he has to make the book satisfying for all the fans!.
And most of all, how fast do you think a human being can write a book of a size like eragon and still make it good. i bet the nr of pages on the fourth book is 1000 pages and whil he writes the book he is also asnwering Questions ect for you guys(and girls ofc) I think that the shorter time he usees on the book he is making it worse not better, the book needs fine tuning!

CP get off those adult websites and get our book finished!!!!

  • nicole

I am old… 38, and I love this series! The books are long, and he has to create different languages for cripes sake! Both of these factors contribute to the time it takes for the book to be released. Not to mention all of the editing and printing processes and who knows what.
I am anxious to read the next one, too, but for Heavens sake! Cut the kid a break!
Just want to say that I don’t remember reading books that were this fun when I was a kid.

Im 26 and am just as impatient as the rest of us waiting on this book…I think most of these kids just have nothing better to do than sit around and wait for this book…quite sad really

I’m 18, my father’s 50 and my aunt 54. We all love CP’s books. My grand-father died a year ago, and he was an avid fan too. It’s not a question of age I think. Every week or so, he asked me if there were any news about book 4, he didn’t have Internet, you see…
I started reading Eragon when I was 11, that’s about the same year the the Knoph edition came out. My native language is French, and one of the reasons I worked hard to learn English and become bilingual is because I wanted to read the originals, and not traductions. I’m waiting, and hope that every new week will bring a release date !
If you want to read great theories about Eldunari (that’s what the name of book 4 will be) head over to http://inheritancebook4.com/
They’ve got the best theories out there !

      • Tabou

Aaah, enfin un francophone!! Je me sentais toute seule dans ce monde anglophone ^^

My ex-french’s teacher was a big fan of Inheritance Cycle too. She is now 45 years old. I’m 17 🙂

        • Alexandre

Quel est ta nationalité ? Je suis Québécois. Je me suis souvent demandé si les livres de Christopher Paolini avaient été publiés en français de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique…Peut-être seras-tu en mesure de répondre à cette question !

          • Bigrele_m

Les livres ont été publiés en france.

  • bombofawesome

aggravation with CP has reached an all time high >.> I’ve been checking for some form of a proper update for the past 4 months and all I’ve got is BS about what MAY be in the book or what MAY occur, fuck just a release date, a title or a cover would be nice about now, this is the last series that managed to seriously grab my attention and I can probably quote you all three books cover to cover from re-reading and waiting for him to get his act together

  • swimmer57

All I know is that he can write book four better and faster than I could

  • Hery56

I agree he needs to publish the book asap its starting to get pretty annoying!

I hate how i began reading this when I was also age eleven in the sixth grade. I’m a bit ticked off that it is taking him this long to finish this book no matter how greatly crafted it may be. Its high time you gave the fans what they wanted less the cease to be your fans much longer. The constant secrecy and avoiding questions has gone on for far too long. I understand you are a young writer and you are falling into a groove but its really a problem when we have to wait 3+ years for the final book. Eight years for only 3 books completed and one possibly finishing soon just isn’t right. I do hope this cycle ends soon.

  • Hodidy

This has taken way to long. There is no way I will read any future books he decides to write after this.

  • Inheritence FTW

No doubt CP is taking his time, but… I guess it’s different for every author. Rowling pumped them out pretty quickly, and Rick Riordan (author of Percy Jackson) is currently releasing around two books a year for his different series. With CP- I guess it’s just whether you’re a devoted enough fan to wait awhile. Brisingr was already out when I started the series, so I’ve been waiting just a couple years. Yeah, it sucks that Paolini takes his time- but let’s just hope that it’s worth it 😀

    • Some authors write fast, some authors take more time. Some of the most famous and celebrated authors take years in between writing books. It isn’t out of the ordinary for there to be three years in between books, especially when the books are over 700 pages long.

      • Thomas Stanley

is the fourth book more than 700 pages long?

    • Braxtonb

Through Rowlings whole process it took around 20 years

    • abbey

Well the inheritance cycle is better than both those series.

      • EH?!

Love CP’s story, but his writing lacks the stylistic maturity of the Harry Potter series. IMHO.

      • wisemom

The inheritance cycle is not better than the Harry Potter series – I don’t think many people would dispute that. Sure, Inheritance has more bloody battles and action, but it’s not as nuanced and the writing itself isn’t as good. It’s a very good series of course, but it’s not quite as original. In comparison to the Rick Riordan books – Inheritance is certainly more complex and older leaning – but the various R.R. series holds up on their own too.

    • Ferras Vansen

I was very disappointed in Rowling’s books… after the Prisoner of Azkaban the quality of her writing dropped dramatically.. Though I read all of them.. -cant put down a story once I have started 🙁
Its felt like torture for me to wait so long for the 4th book so I hope CP makes it worth the wait…. (fingers crossed)

  • Ammar Tanvir

yes what the hell is chris thinking! goin this late on a book having just 4 parts

  • sexypinguino

paolini is really fucking up right now, he’s going to lose his target audience if he doesnt hurry up to publish the new book, Eragon was released in 2003 when i was 11, now i am 19 and he hasnt finished the story, not even jk rowling took this much. I cant imagine many 25 year olds reading the new book so the people who originally read eragon will lose interest and the younger people will have never read eragon when it came out cause they were too young. get your head out of your ass christopher

    • Jarnunvosk

I agree for the most part, this book is taking too long to be written. I was in 6th grade when it came out, also 11, and I immediately loved it (I always WAS a Star Wars fan). Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was published in 1997, when I was five, and over the course of ten years, J.K. Rowling wrote seven fairly original novels. Considering how much of Inheritance is directly derived from Star Wars, I wouldn’t expect the author to have this much trouble. To write four books that are roughly the same lengths as the last four Potters (732, 870, 652, and 759 pages, compared with 497, 668, 748, and the fourth book) means that Book 4 would have to be 1200 pages to strike even with Potter lengthwise. The fourth Potter book was published in 2000, the last in 2007. To give Paolini the same amount of time to write Inheritance would have cut him off roughly last July. He needs to put his nose to the grindstone and finish it. Hopefully when he translates the rest of Return of the Jedi over to Inheritance, he’ll address my biggest problem with Star Wars: why the hell is there a bottomless pit in the throne room?

      • Kithsahan

whoa whoa, dont compare some cheap ass wand sticking story to the inheritance universe. the inheritance series is way more complex than the potter books with characters from different races, magic, invented languages of at least four different races. CP needs to make sure that every word he writes is placed in its proper place otherwise it’ll just look silly.

@sexypinguino : no one gives a shit how old u are just to read a book. more people are being born everyday so there is no scare of CP losing his audience. just ask urself why the hell are we still reading LOTR?

        • Seris

Kithsahan…. Cool it. Though Rowling deals mainly with humans, she deals with quite a lot of creatures, and both series use derivative spell-language (the Ancient Language is based of of Nordic, Harry Potter spells off of Latin). I agree that it isn’t easy to publish, but frustration is understandable at this point.

And don’t take sexypinguino’s prediction as any more than a prediction: you treat it as a threat. No one wants CP to crash and burn here. We’re just a bit tired of waiting.

It’s a lame day when I have to play the trite peacemaker.

    • Adviii

My stepbrother is 30 and he also reads the books.
Also he is waiting for the 4th part to come out, and I’m sure there’ll be lot’s of people over 25 that actually read the IC series.
I even suggested it to my mum -49- to read them..
It shouldn’t matter how old someone is, if they enjoy it, why can’t you on your age ..

      Anyway:
Rereading the books again to find more hints for book 4, after that I’ll be rereading Eragon’s Guide To Alegesia ^^
Can’t wait ’till it actually arives in the bookstore !

  • Nar_generation

this is getting ridiculous. who wants to wait 3years for a book to come out. and all those “other” books if they ever come out what will it be 10 years from now? im sure im not the only one getting tired of waiting..

  • Nar_generation

    dud this

  • Homertherat

Darn, I was hoping for some news… CP needs to drop some more hints, or give us a release date!

    • P.L.B

I agree, a release date would be great

      • Krinket

Last we heard he hadn’t even finished writing the book, and many authors will do several editing rounds with their editors before they even look at publication. Unless he’s under contract he can take as long as he wants (and some authors do anyway), so I don’t think we can realistically expect a release date not knowing if he’s even finished his first draft all the way through.

        • Homertherat

I just don’t understand it. It was apparently halfway written when he split it from book 3. Book 3 is about 750 pages, so it’s probably safe to say that there was at least 300 pages worth of already written stuff. It took him 3 years to get from Eldest to Brisingr, and he’s already had 2 years PLUS the already written parts. If we’re going with his statement that he doesn’t like huge books, the 300 page estimate is almost half the book. Does it really take that long to write half a book? Would it kill him to give us an ETA at this stage of the game? He’s got to be close to finishing it, so a “Summer or Fall 2011” would be great. It doesn’t have to be exact. He doesn’t even need to specify the month. At this point, he’s losing fans.

          • Guest

I’m pretty sure your information about him already having 300 pages written is incorrect. He may have been reaching the length of what he thought was a decent book size and realized that he had far too much still to write and thus decided to make an extra book and never actually had written any of the next. I don’t know where you got your information but I doubt it is correct.

        • Angie

But then again they could release SOME THINGS. Like the title perhaps? We are getting way to used to calling it “Book 4.” A tentative release date would also be appreciated though.

          • AuthorAtHeart

Ah. That’s the thing about authors. We prefer not to give away anything about our books until they’re completely done. Though a release date would be nice, a whole “Blizzard” move is probably what I’d go for. Meaning I would not release a book or release date until I knew it was ready to go and perfect enough for people to read without thinking “what is this?”. Just hold in there, it’ll be out before you know it.

          • Love your Blizzard reference! I’m a big Blizzard fan so I’m very used to hearing “Soon”. I also respect that it takes a lot of time to produce quality content and it’s always worth the wait.

          • Snysly

I just realized, that the break between Eldest and Brisinger was 3 years, and 3 years for this book would be This year, but i am still disapointed that we don’t even have a title, or a cover yet. In my opinion though, which is in no way a professional one, the publishers waiting this long is only causing people to forget about the series. And with the Blizzard reference,i believe that that is inaccurate, because they had their hand full with WOW almost the whole time, and unless CP is working on 2 books at once, that reference is useless.

          • Sam

How about just giving the readers a progress report of what stage the author is at on the book. Maybe instead of a release date just a time frame when he expects to finish, ie… Fall of 2011. Something!

          • I believe he’s given a progress report in nearly every interview over the past year.

          • Bassmonkey

I beleive this is a case of did not do the research. He has been giving progress reports, the problem is you’re missing them.

          • Definitely not useless. Individual teams work on Blizzard projects. There’s a WoW team that only works on WoW, a SC team, and a Diablo team.

          • Bassmonkey

I’ll laugh at you when posters and promos in every book shop in the western world will impose themselves upon the masses and cure their ‘amnesia’.

      • Krinket

      • Zemmiphobic10

Of course it does, and I’m sure you wouldn’t care to enlighten me further, would you? lol

        • It’s soon enough to say soon, but not soon enough to say “insanely soon”?
