New Details About Book 4 (5…6…) and Beyond!

As we previously reported, Christopher Paolini recently attended the Boy Scouts’ 100th Jamboree in Washington D.C. While at the Jamboree, Christopher held a book signing and a Q&A session with the Boy Scouts in attendance. Thanks to a Boy Scout reporter for Pittsburgh’s KDKA news station, we have a list of Christopher’s revelations during his Q&A session. We’ve organized them for your viewing after the jump… and some of the information is quite interesting! Book 4 details, writing progress update… and more Inheritance books?!Book 4 Title, Release Date, and Cover

He stated that he had picked a title for this novel prior to when he started writing it; however, he refused to disclose this title. He also does not know when the book will be released due to the fact that he is still writing it. … However, Mr. Paolini did tell everyone in attendance that a green dragon would fill the cover of this final book.

Book 4 … Nearing Completion!

He also does not know when the book will be released due to the fact that he is still writing it. He also said that the final book was nearing completion and that he could “see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Christopher’s Future Writing Plans

When asked about his future writing plans, Mr. Paolini told me and the other correspondents that he had completely planned and outlined approximately six other books.

More Inheritance Books?!

He also said that future compositions may revisit Alagaesia (the world in which Eragon lives), but from a different perspective. This was all that he would disclose about his future plans.

For those of you who may be skeptical of the Boy Scout’s report, Shur’tugal can verify that the information listed above is accurate.

  • Krasyeyez

oops wong comment whatchamacollit. i still agree though.

  • Krasyeyez

I completely agree, though I think the elves would be a lot more open about thier forests.

  • darkofmoon

do u think that murtagh is broms son to and not morzan is there any possiblity

  • Lollipop

well the first time i read Brisingr was when it got out two years ago, and i was so looking forward to the next book, which i thougth would be out soon because book NR 4 is really just Brisingr getting too long, and so he would be finished with some of NR4 already, which ment it wouldnt be so long to it was finished. now after two years i am still waiting, though i think he should take his time to make the book good. but it kinda sucks

  • Kidloser45

How will Arya and Eragon end up together or will the keep being friends? Or will Eragon fall for someone else in Book 4? So many questions, WE WANT ANSWERS!!!!!

  • Fuckerbro

fucken bitchs asshole whore slut cunts motherfuckers eat shit pussy cunt

  • Fuckerbro

FUCKIN FAGGY CUNTS….LONG STORY SHORT CUZ YOU ARE ALL FUCKS THINK UR HARD CUNT

  • IrishSpring94

Arya will be the new rider. She and Eragon will leave together on the boat and the man left on shore will be Murtagh. Hes yeling because they killed Thorn to save him. The trama of losing his dragon changed his true name thus saving him from his bond to Galby. Democracy will set in maybe and if not Nasuada will become queen. The elfs will retur o the forest and the Dwarves will return to thier mountains. I may be wrong and if you diagree tell me id love to hear more theories.

    • Anonymous

wow the whole killing thorn thing…. i didnt think of that before… it would be very sad if that happen but it does seem like the most probbable answer….

    • Cavalierz24_08

The murtagh theory is very interesting bro, but I don’t think murtagh would take that lying down. You have to realize when you become a dragon rider your dragon is part of you. He would be mad with rage and problably fight to the death against the person(s), that killed thorn. Kind of like Gladre done when Oromis was killed. That was a really good theory though. Got any more?? 🙂

  • Tim Argetlam

How do you know that Vanrir will be the new Rider?

  • Next-Shurtugal

Does anyone think that Roran could possibly be the next Rider? Look at it this way: Morzan was a Rider; Morzan’s SON turned out to be a Rider.
Brom was a Rider; Eragon is Brom’s SON.
Eragon and Murtagh share the same MOTHER.
    Eragon and Roran are COUSINS.

    • Dragonmaster2345

i agree with this but am still open to other options

      • Next-Shurtugal

I am too! But it just strikes me as a little too coincidental that they are all related in some way.

      • Fuzzy_lumkins001

roran will probably be the king after the book is done the most likely one is a random rider arya or one of the girls angela talked to most likely the one with the strong mustles

      • darkofmoon

is there a possible that morzans son is not his but broms so maybe

  • Tammo93

Can’t be skeptical of a boyscour right? Scout’s Honor.

  • Kratos

oh and i tink d green dragon is already fully grown otherwise wot point is der havin a baby dragon?either dat or its a green eldunari dat used to be a green dragon!the egg wont hatch i dont tink as dat will be eragons legacy to find and train the next dragon rider which will prob be roran and katrina’s child……………………hence book 5 n 6 if dat wasnt bullshit…..

  • Kratos

Terry Goodkind is a very successful author he’s sword of truth series has sold millions worldwide, the second in the series ‘stone of tears’was over a 1000 pages long n he took less time then cp,most of the other books in the series were over 600 pages long and some times took less then 2yrs to write. Now i like the inheritance cycle bt i agree he takes to long writing it and his writing is amaturish which means whoever does the editing will have a very long and difficult job,now the 4th book i agree will have to be atleast a 1000 pages long givin it has taken so long and what he has to address in it,if its not that long then its just gonna be half a story without giving it any depth or substance, this talk of him outlining 5 or 6 other books is a cover in my opinion for taking this long as he was meant to of had half of book 4 wrote when brisingr was released,i might be wrong bt just my opinion.as for eragon bein tortured i tink it wil be by nausada(wrong spelling)after eragon finds out bout rorans whipping and kills sum1 maybe jormunder or perhaps orik has to do it for breaking a dwarve law??anyway dats all i gotta say

    • wolf

I think the dwarven clan who hates him and has tried to kill him in brisingr has him.

  • Nadine <3

hmmm…. i’m not really sure about that…. i think ill wait for christopher to verify that….

  • Blankenship Dalton

can we just fucus on book discussions and what everyones ideas and hopes are for the next book, well at least we know he wont be tortured in the kings dungeon.in the first one in stated that eragon would have to leave forever, and i also know there has been alot of debate focused around the green dragon.well aryas magic is green and it would make since beacause the last dragon is male and saphira is a femaleand in the last book at a campfire scene arya let eragon get closer personally more than ever, and she seamed to care more for him.and i also think that its safe to say that eragon will not take the throne that it will more than likely be nasuada or roran.but like Bb saide it may not be arya as the new rider, eragon did meet a mysterious women and her daughter in the last book.

  • Ccchulk

Oh and adding on to that, if he has the other books outlined, he will take less time finishing them also. That means that there will probably be less time in between release dates. I would like that. Wouldn’t you?

  • Bb Brook

Roran will be King Murtagh and Nasuada will fall in love and Eragon and Saphira will leave Alagaesia with Greenie on request of the Menoa tree as Eragon promised to do what ever the tree asked for the brightsteel in Brisngr.

Oh and the new rider will not be Arya, Roran, Nasuada or Angela or Elva

    • Aron

Who do you think the new rider will be, then?

    • Dragonmaster2345

      how do you know?

    • Jake Kelly

In response to your ideals on the situation, personally I believe that Arya will be the next Dragon rider, for several different reasons. 1. Ayra’s father was a dragon rider, and coinsides with the 2 dragon riders that now exsist. 2.Ayra’s magic is green and so forth coinsides with the 2 exsisting dragon riders having the color magic of their dragon. 3. It is stated that when a rider chooses the person he is to love the dragons are effected by this change. Therefore the best way for the dragon race to continue, lies with Ayra, and her new dragon. It is stated by Christopher that a character dies, i have to options, 1 being Murtagh, and the second Nasuada: those are my selected characters that would most likely fit the story. If Nasuada dies yes Roran would most likely become the new king. If Murtagh dies it will fit the story a little better, do to the fact that his father died, and all but eragon’s cusin is dead leaving him with no attachments to alagesia.

Ya 2 years for a huge book like that how long did harrypotter 7 take?

  • Jeaners1

star wars is based off the rise and fall of the Roman Empire as well if not more so the Norse Myth

  • Dragonmaster2345

i want correction really want to know the title of the fourth book, it would ease some of my excitement.

    • John Hamilton

well i have your title. while i was making a quiz on facebook i came across the cover art for the fourth book and guess what was underneath the fourth dragon a.k.a. greenie? the title and it was “eldunari”

      • Egwarhawk1290

i heard about that but they say its just a fake title and cover.

  • Matt127

Yay, more books to come! And I was told that “the other perspective” in the new future story might be Brom. Who knows, maybe it will tell the details of his journey from losing saphira to him killing Morzan, to him founding the Varden and how he wound up in Carvahall.

  • Ruttager

Possibly a stroy about that chick who was chattin with Angela but wudnt give her name

  • Robbybarr1994

    AWSOME

  • Arya428

The torture is probably something to do with the Menoa tree. Remember it took something from him? Maybe it was something vital and it is hurting him now.

  • 555szfr

if you guys read about Eragon being tortured i have this to say, i think that it is the dwarves that are torturing him. if you remember in Brisingr one of the clans tried killing him. what im thinking now is that they have somehow captured him and they made a deal with galbatorix and are holding him prisoner for the king

    • staldex

Funny, I made a topic about that as well. Az Sweldn Rak Anhuin. I thought they might join Galbatorix and try to rebel against the dwarves and eradicate Eragon and Saphira along with Thorn and Murtagh. I think this is a strong possibility if he is not being held in the Empire.

    • Robbybarr1994

yeah that would make sense except for the fact that there was only one clan that tried to kill him and its not active because they have no cheif

    • Dan

This would make sense, except Az Sweldin Rak Anhuin didnt hate ALL dragons and Dragon Riders. The blood feud only took place because Hrothgar accepted Eragon as his own, but that wouldn’t make them hate Galbatorix any less.

    • Saleh5139

I think that Eragon is captured and tortured by Nasuada cause he killed someone who tied to attack his friends ….. and now nasuada thinks he is a traitor

      • Loyl2thagme

I don’t think that Nasuada would be one to hang someone from hooks to torture someone. She does not seem like that kind of person. She felts guilty for whipping Roran.

  • m2

I think a book giving the story of vrael and rise of and fall of the dragon riders would be really amazing. Something to give more of a backstory to the eragon series.

Jesus Christ people get off CP’s back, its only been a year since Brisingr came out, and so what if he outlining six other books. Let the man work. Stop bashing him, he is doing his best. Its a brilliant series and the ending deserves to be taken at a nice pace, he shouldn’t have to rush.

And most of you would complain about there not being anymore books anyway. So stop complaining now about him trying to think ahead and make more plot lines for books.

I think we already met some characters from other books Paolini will write in the story of eragon. It happens in Brisingr

I agree. Get the 4th book finished and the go to your other books. Watiting for the ending book is hard. I just found out about this series not too long ago and read all 3 twice and am definitely ready for the 4th. In the meantime, I did read the Shannara first 3 nby Terry Brooks, kind of dull, and the Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan, which wasn’t too bad, didn’t want to read HP for the 8th time so, I ran out of fantasy books so went back to james Patterson. Oh well, what can an old lady do? Hurry up Christopher!!!

    • kelia

Yes, I’ve written a book, and I’m in high school so I don’t have any time. it’s not published and probably never will as I’m lazy enough not to publish it, but I KNOW that writing a book doesn’t take that long especially if you already know the characters and the plot. I do however agree that we should stop picking on CP.

      • Aron

Exactly you’ve written a book, but you haven’t published it, and there are probably only a handful of people reading it, if any. C.P., on the other hand, has to get his books published, and write them so that hundreds and thousands of people will enjoy reading it.

@Brom88: I agree. It\\\’s hard to piece together the books and the plots and make masterpieces, yet Christopher manages to do this and only in 2-3 years. I know an author who takes 4-6 years to publish each book she writes. I\\\’d say we\\\’re lucky to be his fans and to get to read his work. 🙂

  • Were176cRider

DuGataVrangar-While I have learned the error of my ways, I still have to note some distinct similarities between character names in Lord of the Rings to locations in Alagesia.

    1. In LOTR there is a town Fornost which is a deserted city. In Alagesia there is the town of Furnost.

    2. Eragon is strikingly similar to the name Aragorn in LORT.

3.Melian is a town in Alagesia. Melian is also the queen of Doriath in LORT.

Now, I don’t truly believe CP plagiarized all of this, and may have merely been inspired, or used friend or family names in the process. But there are almost carbon copy replicas of some of these names.

But I am still over my tirade, so no more harshing my opinion please.

    p.s. GO RORAN!!!

  • Were176cRider

DuGataVrangar-While I have learned the error of my ways, I still have to note some distinct similarities between character names in Lord of the Rings to locations in Alagesia.1. In LOTR there is a town Fornost which is a deserted city. In Alagesia there is the town of Furnost.2. Eragon is strikingly similar to the name Aragorn in LORT.3.Melian is a town in Alagesia. Melian is also the queen of Doriath in LORT.Now, I don’t truly believe CP plagiarized all of this, and may have merely been inspired, or used friend or family names in the process. The similarities between Inheritance and LOTR are sparse other than names. If someone were truly interested in finding out where the majority of CP’s concepts came from, that person would go watch the original Star Wars trilogy. There you will find a farmboy who was raised by his aunt and uncle, whose father was a protector of the people with extraordinary powers. He goes on a journey to take up this mantle and ends up rescuing a princess. Afterwards, he finds himself part of a Rebellion against an oppressive Empire, and almost immediately is swept into a major battle where he becomes a hero by destroying a weapon that meant certain doom for his newfound Rebellion. Afterwards he goes to receive more training from a shamed master, but leaves without finishing his training because he feels his friends will not survive the ordeals they will soon face. Upon returning, he is essentially led into a trap against a more powerful opponent, and the villain then reveals their blood relation to our farmboy hero. The hero manages to avoid being captured and corrupted by his enemy/family. Soon afterwards, he goes on a rescue mission to save a friend, which is a success…
Here’s a question for you: did I just describe most of the Star Wars saga, or most of Inheritance? Hmmm…

Now this first part is to all the people who are complaining about plagiarism which according to Wikipedia is defined in dictionaries as “the wrongful appropriation, close imitation, or purloining and publication, of another author’s language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions, and the representation of them as one’s own original work.” With that definition holding true not one of CP’s book contains any form of plagiarism because he is merely inspired by other peoples ideas and took those inspirations and created a whole unique world out of them and expanding on the ideals of others is the number one thing that drives this world into the future. If what CP does is considered plagiarism then what apple did to the computer was just plain theft. Now your more than welcome to scrutinize or poke wholes in what i have just said but remember that in doing so you just prove your own ignorance because even though he does expand on ideas previously laid out from other people he gives them credit where it is needed try reading the whole book not just the stories before making accusations. Oh and for everyone else I simply cannot wait for part 4 to come out but yet again my theory is that we will still have to wait another few years for a conclusion because unless he wishes to release a bare outline I don’t even 900 pages would cover everything left that he has said he wants to cover.

As much as I love these books, I believe it’s mostly influenced by my love of Star Wars and the fact that Inheritance is similar to it in almost every way. Your comment struck a chord to me, so I decided to do you the favor of grammatically correcting it.
“Now, this first part is to all the people who are complaining about plagiarism – which, according to Wikipedia, is defined in dictionaries as ‘the wrongful appropriation, close imitation (sorry for the addendum here, but this is exactly what Inheritance is), or purloining and publication of another author’s language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions; and the representation of them as one’s own original work.’ With that definition holding true, not one of CP’s books contains any form of plagiarism because he is merely inspired by other people’s ideas, and took those inspirations and created a whole unique world out of them – and expanding on the ideas (not i-d-e-a-l-s, that is more like ethics or morals) of others is the number one thing that drives this world into the future. (I disagree, the passage of time is the number one thing that drives this world ever on and on.) If what CP does is considered plagiarism, then what Apple did to the computer was just plain theft. Now, you’re more than welcome to scrutinize or poke holes (not w-h-o-l-e-s, my dear friend) in what I have just said, but remember that in doing so you just prove your own ignorance (oh darn, I’m not sure, does correcting your grammar count as poking holes? If so, I am woefully, blatantly, and irreparably ignorant) because even though he does expand on ideas previously laid out by (not from) other people he gives them credit where it is needed. (I haven’t seen a dedication yet that reads, “To George Lucas, without whose films I would be copying the plot of Harry Potter instead.”) Try reading the whole book, not just stories, before making accusations. (I have read, and greatly enjoyed, not just Eragon but all three Inheritance books currently available. My “accusations” are merely observations.) Oh, and for everyone else – I simply cannot wait for Part 4 (yes, “part” should be capitalized as long as you are treating it as if it were the title of a book) to come out, but yet again, my theory is that we will still have to wait another few years for a conclusion. Unless he wishes to release a bare outline I don’t even ______ (insert verb suggesting cognitive activity here) 900 pages would cover everything left that he has said he wants to cover.”
So then, Du Gata Vrangr, ye who wish to show how intelligent you are by not using the name of the organization from the Cycle, but instead the grammatically correct version – please, before accusing others of being ignorant, or worse, of being sheep who will argue a point simply because someone else did first, will you attempt in the future to actually plant your flag in intellectual high ground before insisting that you’re there? Within that metaphor, I think I just arrived and found your flag rolled up for toilet paper at the intellectual high ground’s public restrooms.
If you feel like responding to this post, DuGataVrangr, I do have a quote for you, from the series that inspired the vast majority of the concepts and ideas in the Inheritance Cylce. “I have the high ground – don’t try it.”

      • John Hamilton

rather then just star wars he has taken several prominant figures, books, movies… and intertwined them in eragon and now the later books have created something totally unique. so no he has not committed plagiarism.

        • Nobody

Star Wars is in-and-of-itself a sci-fi version of the archetypical hero story. You can’t write something that doesn’t borrow elements of other works. It’s nigh impossible nowadays, so all you can do is put your own imaginative spin on it. Even if CP admitted to being inspired by Lucus, his work is not 99% identical. Even the blue-sword vs red-sword motif is common, not just in Star Wars (Luke’s lightsabre was, I believe, green), as red is a colour associated with evil and blue a colour associated with good.

          • wolf

It was red blade white blade (not trying to be an arrogant jerk, just saying.)

Honestly, i never thought of the colors of the blades representing a morale stand in the characters lives. And i dont think Paolini, plagiarized.

          • xYUMSxPRODIGYx

Red is a universal color for evil. Blue is universal for good. Last time i checked Galbatorix doesn’t have to use a breathig apparatus.

Coolio! All I can say on the ending or that “CP plagorizing” issue is that Murtagh better not die. THAT wouldn’t be original, and then people would actually have an excuse to complain.

I swear to God… If I see one more “Starkiller” death (Ok, I guess he doesn’t count anymore… Whatever, it’s an example) were the hot, likable guy sacrafices himself, I am going to KILL. 🙂

    • EragonandMurtagh

i compleatly agree. murtagh is such an awsome character, he is just sooooooooo cool i cant tell who i like better because eragon is like the prince of light, he is just so good. but murtagh is like the, not exacly the nice person, but the person that has been wronged who you just cant help but feel pity for no matter what he does and how evil he becomes because you just keep that image of him as a greatly abused person. and as C.P. has made it clear that murtagh still thinks of eragon as person worth protecting so wouldnt it be fitting if in repentence for his crimes murtagh sacrificed himself for eragon? although if that happened murtagh would be sorely missed :_< tear

    • Jarnunvosk

unrelated, but do you think the Starkiller of TFU2 is actually a clone, or if he didn’t really die in the first one? I personally think Vader lied to him about being a clone – but in order to “sell the deception” as Starkiller so aptly put it in the first game, actually did make clones.

To all on this website, I must apologize for my unnecessary remarks. Voicing my opinion went too far, and I am sorry. But, please notice that these posts don’t deal with my personal life. Are you reading head guys :)? Although this may never be my favorite series, there is a charm from these books that still keeps me waiting for more, no matter how much I think the books lack originality. Originality or not, these tales capture the adventure of the normal to immortal, while dealing with peaks and valleys through the characters own journey. Thank you for (hopefully) understanding this.

have you ever seen the 2 hr documentary on Star Wars where Lucas talks about how he was inspired by mythology (Greek and Norse) but thought it would be cool to set it in space? apparently not as a big a Star Wars fan as you seem to imply.

Just thought I’d comment on the subject that someone mentioned of Random House delaying the release of the book.

Although yes, from the time there is a definite completion date of the book, the publishing company will delay the release somewhat to advertise the book, they gain nothing by delaying the release by say, a year.

Given the target audience of Eragon, the main fan base is growing up. Now people that were age 10-15 when they read Eragon are now around 16-21 (somewhere around there).

But anyway, my point is, is that the longer they wait to release the book, the more they risk loosing readers.

I understand everybody’s concern about more info on book 4 and the publication of it but we must remeber that writing a book is not the easiest thing in the world especially for CP because of his excellent writing skills, i mean think about it he has made one of the best series EVER and, so to end it, he must concentrate as hard as he can. so give CP a break so he can give us the best ending if the world. Also can you guys give a break to Mike his work already hard because he tries to keep us up on the info as much as possible, so giving him bad comments and feedbacks doesnt help… Dont worry about it mike take your time.

I like everyone else on this site eagerly wait to here word on when the book will be released and yes it will be a relief to finally have a date, but nearing completion still means they have to the final editing on the book, and then do all the printing which takes a long time, remember Brisingr hasn’t even been out for 2 yrs yet, granted CP had part of book 4 at least thought out he had to readjust everything when he decided to extend it to 4 books. My estimate is earliest we’ll have a release date is late fall into the holidays hopefully latest by next summer, earliest we’ll have the book is next summer or fall/holidays and latest the summer of 2012. And honestly if CP is almost done or ‘nearing completion’ hes done it very quickly, I dare anyone to try to write a quality book and keep your sanity and a social life while doing all the author events in 2 yrs.

On the interviews, I get frustrated not getting them on time as well, but just like CP on the books, Mike and staff has a life and other things he has/wants to do besides constantly appeasing visitors, they’ve been busy transferring and trying to fix the site after the crash and problems this last spring, so they’ll be up when he can get them up i highly doubt he enjoys having constant barrage of complaints about delays.

I am sure if CP saw this entire thing right now he would be very pleased as to how much his fans are dieing to get an update 😀 Mike sorry for my ill posted comment i was being very impatient being i have waited for this for sooooo long (not really but still). Post a approximate as Chris suggested?

Guys calm down about all this. To be frank I’m not happy about waiting a while for a book either. But I’m not here moaning and weepng about how its been soooooo long. Three years is about how long it takes for an author to get done with a rough draft. Be happy, you have a BUNCH of other series that are already finished to pass away the time.

As for the interview… LAY OFF OF MIKE. So he’s having a few problems uploading it. WHO CARES. You won’t die.

    Mike,

I certainly appreciate all the work you do in keeping both this site and the fans updated regarding the Inheritance Cycle, however, the anticipation in reading the interview that has been hyped up has finally forced me to post a comment.

I do not intend to insult you or any of the staff of the site, as I am sure you know that people grow rather impatient when something as big as an interview is posted. I myself have been refreshing the home page every now and again (I believe too often) in hopes that it will pop up.

However, in you saying \”I still have 9 hours left in the day to post it\” or something to that regard, I have lost interest in continuously refreshing the site. An interview of this magnitude is sure to be important for your site and its viewers, however, it if is your intention (which I am 99% sure it is not, mind you,) to post the interview at midnight, at least let your fans know.

Many of us, I\’m sure, would greatly appreciate an actual time; you\’re WORSE estimate. This way, even if you\’re wrong, it will only be up earlier, rather than later. I assure you that your fans would be happier if this occurred. So please, give us your worst estimate on when the Interview will be posted. I grow tired of hitting F5.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Also

Paolini’s other novels will probably be set in a time farther in the future. It’s hard to build on a story with a solid happy ending

For the record, I don\’t care about when book 4 comes out. Authors have trouble with strong endings. Paolini has built this up quite well. He needs a powerful ending. I hope he does it.

People os whining so much. This book will problaly be on 1000pages and that wont take 1 year like alot of you think. CP used 4 years on Eragon and 3 years on Eldest and 2 years on Brisingr..and did you all whine this much when it 2 years to release Brisingr, or Eldest? No, I don’t think so, he is soon finish so all be patient, this book will problaly be the best book ever made anyway!

Totally agree, for this book to be a success it has to be writen properly and i believe there is a good chance of 900-1300pages. now i don’t think u have ever seen any other person manage to write a book this long and actually be sucessful. i dont think anybody has ever written a book this long in under 3 years, now i may be wrong but i bet he wont even finish writing the book until February, then around 6-8months of editing before it is published. i expect to see the book to be released at the back end of 2011. now all you people that are criticising CP for not doing it soon enough, BACK OFF your getting NOWHERE

      • Jarnunvosk

You said: ” now i don’t think u have ever seen any other person manage to write a book this long and actually be sucessful. i dont think anybody has ever written a book this long in under 3 years.”
I disagree on all fronts. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was almost nine hundred pages and took just under three years to write. Each of Rowling’s Potter books after Goblet Of Fire was well over six hundred pages, with the sixth book being the shortest of them at 698 pages. If you honestly believe that the Harry Potter books weren’t successful (with two c’s, not one), I’m sure you can find a list of the best-selling fantasy novels of all time, and find the majority of the Harry Potter books in the top ten, and no Harry Potter book below an Inheritance novel on those lists. If you refuse to believe that information even after looking it up for yourself, it’s perfectly acceptable for you to live in denial in a fantasy world of your own creation, where Inheritance is the only fantasy series that was ever popular.

        • Clark K.

Harry Potter couldnt come close to Eragon he would have a chance if he wasnt whiner

@Mike Macauley: Well for you yes, its half 8 for me 🙁 so i’ll have to see the interview. Hopefully Tulkas will message me on Facebook to let me know…
And i’ve already got Facebook, so i won’t be getting a twitter account, and the Shurtugal facebook page hasn’t been updated in AGES … since April i do believe …

And Mike you make an excellent point. Besides, if he is planning other books, it must mean that he is near completion and maybe just chillaxing a little after all his hard work. I daresay he deserves it.
And then there’s the average several month period for it to be edited … we will be looking at a spring/ summer release of this book. That’s my guess anyway … About May or June

I know this is completely off topic…hope you admins don’t mind. I asked this on the article for the new WP site, but you probably don’t check the comments there anymore, so I’ll ask again. Will we be able to get email updates from WP once the new site is up? Thanks!

And no one should be harping on CP for taking so long. He has to have his own life, anyway… I’m hoping to get my fantasy series published someday, but I sure won’t want to if my readers are going to control my life.

It’s funny, yet.another.guy, that you say that you cannot think of any other reason for Christopher to have taken two years to write Book 4, but then recommend A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin.

I just looked Martin up on Wikipedia and I see that it took him 5 years between the release of his third book and the release of his fourth book. I then see that since 2005, when his fourth book released, he is *still* working on the fifth book. So that’s another five years.

So just to get this straight, you can’t think of any reason for Christopher (or any author) to take more than two years to write a book, but you highly recommend a book series that takes 5 years in between books for the next to come out? Come on…

has it occurred to anyone that CP may just be willingly postponing book 4’s release at the advice of his publishers for the sake of good business? i seriously cannot think of any other reason why an author would take this long for just 1 book given CP’s past history. i started the inheritance series a couple of years back and i am losing patience waiting this long for the series to end. connor is right. if CP doesn’t publish soon, i might as well get started on other authors’ works. plenty of them waiting for us, i think!

P.S. i highly recommend a song of ice and fire by george r.r. martin

It seems to me that everything is just taking too long. Shurtugal isn\’t sticking to the dates it\’s telling for posts. That is fine, since I understand there can be complications. Though at least post something on the front page to tell us why there is a delay and when you think that it will be fixed. That way we don\’t keep checking the site to find-out it still isn\’t up.

@Connor (Guest) Robert Jordan never took very long to release his books until he started getting sick. He released his first six in five years. Not that I really care about how long it takes these bigs to come out, as long as it’s making them better.

I love when people come in to say “I’ve never seen an author take so long” (2 years) “to write a book!”. The funny part is that some of the best and most famous fantasy authors take YEARS to finish their books. Clearly you don’t read much good fiction. 😉

@Faraway: I agree, Faraway! Characters should grow with the readers. I feel as though we’ve been through a lot with Eragon and Sapphira, and if CP plans to write more about them later in separate books, it would only make sense that they themselves are older and that the action be more intense to fit everyone’s age.
