Is there a list anywhere of all the different editions of each book and how they differ? That would be useful. I would like to read the deleted scenes, extra info, etc. and would like to know which books I need to look for.

  • argetebrithil

    oh happy B-day mike.

  • Jack

Luckily, that one you can buy for just a few dollars online.

  • Chris

This reminds me…I still need to get the Eldest LE.

  • Mike

Thanks for the Happy Birthdays. No, I don’t feel any different. 😛

  • Jack

    Yeah, happy birthday!

I knew about Mike’s record from the ShurtyCast. I have only ten copies of Eragon (three hardback, three solfback, three of the movie edition, and one of the newer one that has a deleted scene in the back), seven of Eldest (three hardback, two LE, two softback), and three Brisingr. I wouldn’t be surprsied if Mike has fifty of each.

  • alucard

    Do you feel any different?

  • Evarinya

    HAPPY BDAY MIKE!!
Wow! the big 2 0!! xD

  • Bob

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE MACAULEY! OUR DEAR FOUNDER IS NOW 20 YEARS OF AGE!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ally

Mike has so many copies of the Inheritance books that I doubt anyone will ever come slightly close to matching him. Unless, of course, you are willing to drop large sums of money. =P

  • Bob

Sadly…Mike probably has more copies of Brisingr then you have copies of every book combined…:(

I’ve seen. He’s good a cool one (that I found and he took from me) that’s missing the foiling on the jacket.

  • Mike

No worries, you aren’t even close to breaking my record. 🙂

  • Jack

I have the LE for Eldest, but the DE for Eragon is so rare, I can’t find it in any stores. And online, it’s a price that I’m really not willing to pay. It looks kind of bad when you have at least three copies of every edition made except for the DE. (and that’s quite literal. Sorry if I broke your record, Mike)

  • Mike

The chapter was initially released exclusively in the Eldest LE in late 2006. After the LE it started popping up in the back of the paperbacks and then, after that, it was posted on Alagaesia.com and Shur’tugal (with permission from Random House to re-print). But that didn’t happen until late 2007, if I remember correctly. Maybe even later.

As far as the rest of the content goes, such as the guides in the back of the Eragon Deluxe Edition or the excerpt from the “A Brief History of Alagaesia”, the only way to find those is to have a copy of the deluxe/limited editions (which are no longer printed for Eragon and Eldest).

  • Bob

The chapter was posted for public viewing on their website. If they should do the same for this (assuming that’s in the books) then we might be able to post something. It’s not up to us to decide.

  • smokejiggy

you said you won’t be posting the extra scenes from the book on the website correct? what is the difference between posting the first chapter of Brisingr from the deluxe edition of eldest than from posting some scenes from deluxe edition of brisingr? how is one permissible and not the other? did the publisher give permission or something or perhaps chris?

  • Daniel

I still like the old ones better. It felt really weird.

  • Mike

The gold border I was referencing was the one on the spine, not just the cover.

And the new Brisingr cover type is to make the covers more durable.

  • Daniel

My Limited Edition Eragon does have a “nifty nifty gold border,” and I will be happy to post a picture of it on my website to prove it. 🙂

I do prefer the way that the Eragon and Eldest covers feel. The Brisingr cover seemed to stick to my fingers when I read it…

  • Evarinya

    xD

  • Bob

Boy, Mike, that was a fun fact.

  • Glorfindel

35 bucks?? Unbelievable. Daniel, you got a signed copy for 17 dollars?!

  • Mike

Fun fact: the Deluxe Edition of Eragon didn’t have the nifty gold border. That was new with the Eldest Limited Edition.

Another fun fact: compare your old Eragon and Eldest hardcover book covers to your new Brisingr book cover. Notice that it’s glossy? 🙂

  • Daniel

I wonder what the cover will look like… Probably the gold border like the others.

  • alucard

I can’t remember how much I paid, which is probably a good thing.

  • argetebrithil

Wow I guess I got the worst deal, and it wasn’t even signed!

  • Evarinya

Lol, I got mine for about 18$ at Walmart :]

  • Mike

For big books (like Brisingr), they offer you discounted shipping options so that the book will arrive on the day of the release. I doubt they’ll do it for Brisingr LE though.

Also, regarding us posting the LE content on the website – we won’t be doing this. That’s illegal (copyright infringement). If you want to read it, you’re going to have to buy it like the rest of us. 😛

  • Daniel

Mine was $17 and it was signed

  • smokejiggy

yeah i actually learned to not preorder books that i really want to read because they get there late and i can get them cheaper at the store. i get discounts at borders and so when i wake up i go get the book, finish it, add it to the shelf, and wait for the next one.

  • argetebrithil

Wow, I actually got it at more expensive price.
This stinks, I bought it at $35! at Barnes & Nobles.

  • Glorfindel

yeah I know. I’m not saying that it was you guys’ fault. But it was supposed to be this amazing deal where you were saving twelve dollars or something.

  • Bob

The price is controlled by Amazon.com and we don’t have any say in the matter. Local bookstores might sell it for less but it’s not guaranteed.

  • Glorfindel

And PLEASE believe when I say that I’m not saying this just to be argumentative.

  • Glorfindel

I’m sorry, I wrote “cause”. That should be “cost”.

  • Glorfindel

Okay, not to be nasty here. And not to cause controvery. Please take this with all due respect and understand that I’m not mad at you. But the last time I used your website to preorder a book, I got ripped off. Preordering Brisingr cause me 17 dollars, counting shipping. This was supposed to be this awesomely great deal. I got it four days after the book came out. In stores on Saturday morning, Brisingr was selling for as low as thirteen dollars, the average being fifteen. I could have gotten it four days earlier for 4 bucks cheaper. Again, I’m not mad, I’m not trying to provoke anyone, but that was what happened the last time I preordered a book on this website, under this website’s recommendation.

  • Daniel

I liked it too, though the ending could have been laid out better. It was written superbly, but it felt strange to me.

  • argetebrithil

    Well I liked it.

  • smokejiggy

ill just wait till they put the extra scenes on the website. college kids don’t have the money lol. anyway i was kind disappointed with Brisingr. its the first half of one book (what was supposed to be one book) so it was kind of boring to me. it was like a set up book so the last one can just be nonstop awesomesauce. if it turns out like the last harry potter book ill shoot myself.

  • Bob

    QUICK ALERT:

Comments may be going down periodically from now until late Sunday night as we work on upgrading the system and making it more user-friendly.

Just wanted to let you guys know. I’ll try to do most of the work later at night or early in the day but I can’t be sure that the comments will be up at all times.

  • Daniel

Yeah. No need to get hyped up… yet.

  • alucard

    wow..that’s like 6 months away

  • Daniel

Just found this out! Theres’s an InheritanceForums app. on the My Yahoo! apps. list!

  • feanarang

Didn’t CP also say that there would be a drawing of Brisingr as well? I would love to see that picture.

  • Daniel

Maybe Mike will include it as a prize in the next contest. 🙂

  • Faolins

    YAY !

  • glaedrpk

    I’ll defenetly buy it.

  • Daniel

I wish I had enough money to get it. I spent all my money on a new leatherbound journal. 🙂

  • Jack

Well, we can always hope. I’m personally hoping for that drawing of the Lethrblaka that Christopher mentioned in his November newsletter.

  • Mike

I’m not sure if there will be a preview of Book 4 in the Deluxe Edition. I can check with Random House. Based on the past deluxe editions, it’s reasonable to assume there’s more content than the two things Christopher mentioned in his newsletter, however, that in no way confirms a chapter from Book 4.

  • Bob

I have no idea. Maybe…you never know…it happened with the other ones, didn’t it? Preview of the next book…

  • Jack

Do you think there will be a sneak peak for Book IV inside? Surely, CP’s written a few chapters by now.

  • Bob

    See? I read feedback!

  • Jack

Finally, you post something I send in!
    I can’t wait for it!
